I instinctively don’t trust anything that Adam Nagourney writes. The guy is consistently out to lunch.

For the past 14 hours, NYTimes.com has featured as its top story, “California Braces for Showdown on Emissions” by Adam Nagourney.

I knew about this ballot measure but nobody has ever talked to me about it. I have not noticed anybody in California bracing for this vote.

The Earth Doesn’t Care If You Drive A Hybrid

George Will writes for Newsweek: The cover of The American Scholar quarterly carries an impertinent assertion: “The Earth Doesn’t Care if You Drive a Hybrid.” The essay inside is titled “What the Earth Knows.” What it knows, according to Robert B. Laughlin, co-winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physics, is this: What humans do to, and ostensibly for, the earth does not matter in the long run, and the long run is what matters to the earth.

…Damaging this old earth is, Laughlin says, “easier to imagine than it is to accomplish.” There have been mass volcanic explosions, meteor impacts, “and all manner of other abuses greater than anything people could inflict, and it’s still here. It’s a survivor.”

…Buy a hybrid, turn off your air conditioner, unplug your refrigerator, yank your phone charger from the wall socket—such actions will “leave the end result exactly the same.”

Michelle Obama Can’t Handle Being First Lady

Matt Drudge has been hammering on the Obama marriage for months. I suspect he’s on to something.

Now we have this report from the Daily Mail of the UK:

Michelle Obama thinks being America’s First Lady is ‘hell’, Carla Bruni reveals today in a wildly indiscreet book.

Miss Bruni divulges that Mrs Obama replied when asked about her position as the U.S. president’s wife: ‘Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!’

Details of the private conversation, which took place at the White House during an official visit by Nicolas Sarkozy last March, emerged in Carla And The Ambitious, a book written in collaboration with Miss Bruni.

How To Make Women Feel Safe So You Can Then Have Sex With Them

On Dennis Prager’s radio show today, he spent an hour with relationship expert Alison Armstrong.

Dennis: “I think it is easier for men to understand women.”

“When you told me the pillow is messy and it’s yelling at you, I understood that.”

Alison busts up laughing.

Alison: I would consider my being called a sexist accurate. I am a sexist.”

Dennis: “So is nature.”

Alison: “One of the things that makes women feel safe is commitment.”

“Safety is totally different for men and for women. It’s also masculine and feminine. A masculine woman will relate to safety the same way men do — your safety is based on your ability to produce whereas a woman’s safety has to do with her physical safety and her ability to connect.

“For four years, you and I dated and every six months, you and I had another first date. I had to earn the next date every time. Then a year and a half ago, you asked me to go steady and to come on once a quarter. And it cracked me up because the next time I was on the air with you was the first time I disagreed with you on air. I even said something to [producer] Allen [Estrin] at the time.”

“You don’t understand women and you think you do. I knew it the first time I was on your show and I wouldn’t say it. You said you thought women didn’t want sex as much as men because they don’t focus on it. I knew then that you didn’t understand women because of your idea that women focus period. Women don’t focus.”

“I have feelings in my body and they aren’t even in the same place in your body. For example, where women feel happiness and men feel happiness is in a completely different part of her body.

“A woman feels happiness in her feelings in the center of her chest, in between her breasts. That’s where her feelings happen. Men accuse women, ‘Why do you always make your feelings the center of everything?’ To us that is crazy because they are right in the center of everything, right in the center of our bodies.

“As for men, you have feelings in all different parts of your body depending on the feelings. The feeling of happiness, you guys have in your upper chest and in your shoulders. If you have a moment of ecstasy, it shoots down your arms into your hands. That’s why you do high fives and jump up and hit the beam and the rim of the basket and you spike the ball. You have all this energy shoot out your hands when you’re really happy.

“It’s also why when you’re really happy you do something women call puff up. There’s this thing that happens in your shoulders when you get puffed up with energy and power. Unfortunately, when most women when they see that in a man, they castrate him because it scares her to see a man so full of himself. They react and they get scared and they emasculate him to cut that energy, that power down to a safe level.

“One of the best things we do in our programs is to change the way women see men so that they get happy when a man gets puffed up instead of getting afraid. They get to love it and celebrate it.”

Dennis: “As soon as Alison came in, Allen said, ‘Alison has a topic — safety.’ After I woke up, I said, who cares about safety?”

Alison: “The biggest challenge men have is to see how a woman is when it defies logic. How logical men are is one of the things that make it difficult to understand women.”

“I ask men, think about the last time you worried about your physical safety.”

Dennis: “It’s hard to imagine.”

Alison: “Most of them can’t remember.”

“For some, there was a moment in a street conflict or war. But even men who were in war, their fear was not of their physical safety but of failing their mission, their comrades, their country.

“Then we asked the women the last time you were afraid for your physical safety. For about 10%, it was today. For about 80%, it was in the last week and for 100% it was in the last month.

“There’s a movie where Jack Nicholson makes fun of his wife for getting her keys out before she leaves the store, but that’s what women do. We get our keys out for our car before we leave the safe place to go the unsafe place.

“There’s a thing that men do that drives women crazy because you are single-focused and committed to a result, which might mean 15 trips to a hardware store. My husband was going back to the hardware store again and again to fix the faucet. I was getting more and more tense. As a woman, every time you leave the cave and enter the cave, instinctively you are laying down scent that lets the tiger know where the cave is. As a woman, we have a list of everything we need to gather. We’ll leave our home and go to the farthest point as if we were going to have to carry everything back on our backs and gather everything on the way back to the cave.

“I’ve asked women and there are a number of times that it is OK to leave home per day before we get really tense and feel like we are jeopardizing our safety just by leaving the house again. It’s all subconscious. It’s all instinct. Part of that diffuse awareness we have that pays attention to our environment, part of us is always monitoring if we are safe. It will monitor our connections. That’s why women get so upset about not being liked. Men are like, what do you care if you are liked? Women feel that they will die if they’re not liked. It’s my connection. It’s how I get protected.

“How threatened women feel for their physical safety is the same kind of tension and bringing out the worst for him when a man is threatened or disrespected because that threatens a man’s ability to produce results. A man’s safety is in production. A woman’s safety is in connection.

“Men are like a stallion circling a herd looking for threats from the outside. That’s why we touch women to stop emasculating men because when you emasculate your husband, now he has threats from both sides of the fence.”

Dennis: “We don’t differ much.”

Alison: “Now that we’re going steady, it’s OK to differ.”

Dennis: “From your perspective. We never want it.”

“Alison warned me that now that she’s on every three months we’re going steady so now she feels much freer to tell me when I’m wrong. It’s not an argument for men to commit to women, let alone marry.”

“Do we raise women to take their keys out early? Do we raise men to pump their fists in the air when they are happy?”

Alison: “No.”

“We have a shocking number of herd behaviors.”

When asked if she’s religious, Alison describes herself as “very spiritual.”

Alison: “If I can give the men listening a good reason to be concerned with safety — safety equals romance equals sex.

“The things you do that make her feel safe — if you don’t know her well, take her elbow when you cross the street. If you know her romantically, escort her across the street with your hand in the small of her back.”

Alison says her “Understanding Women” workshop is about how to get more sex.

Kathleen calls. “I had to run home at lunch and get my security badge and the roofers there and they know I live by myself. I called my friend to ask if I could borrow her 125-pound shepherd for a couple of hours. I just want to walk in with him and then I’ll leave and bring him back.”

Alison: “It makes perfect sense.”

Dennis: “I don’t have a clue.”

Alison: “It was a show of force.”

Sharon in Detroit says she bought a handgun for protection.

Alison: “The more timid a woman looks, the more likely she is to be accosted.”

Bert calls: “What about us guys under the 5’10” club where women instinctively say, this is a little guy and I don’t feel protected.

Alison: “Invite her to arm wrestle you and watch how big her eyes get. Don’t put her down. Invite her to try to put you down. And watch her struggle and strain and figure out how strong you are and her eyes will get big and the chemistry will kick in and she’ll go, whoa, you’re powerful.

“Any time you stand up to a woman, particularly when she’s full of nonsense, that also has us go, wow, you can even protect me from myself, my biggest enemy.”

“Men should ask their woman what makes you feel safe. She has to feel safe, which is different from factual safety.

“Women, ask your men, is there anything I do that makes you feel disrespected? Is there anything I do that says I don’t trust you. Women do things all the time that say I don’t trust you and then they wonder why he behaves the way he does.”

Sexually Harassed?

On his radio show today, Dennis Prager talked about sexy TV reporter Ines Sainz who claimed the New York Jets harassed her:

Ines Sainz is a sports reporter for TV Azteca in Mexico.

She went into the New York Jets locker room and according to the USA Today, she was dressed in tight jeans, high heels, and a low-cut blouse.

You have a sexy young woman in a low-cut blouse. I’ve seen the pictures of this woman and the jeans and I don’t know how she gets into them. Maybe she sleeps in them? Maybe she showers in them? They’re very hard to get on and off, I have to believe, by simple laws of physics. She walks in high heels, which of course is the typical dress code for a locker room. The men are walking around essentially naked except for a towel perhaps. They whooped it up.

When she was outside the room, they overthrew two passes of a football at her, which, as you know, is a terrible form of harassment. The New York Jets have had to profoundly apologize. Anyone who’s defended in any way the Jets’ players has had to apologize. I’ll have to apologize. This is the totalitarian left at work. This re-education campaign. You have not acted the way the left wants you to act.

They say she was sexually harassed. Why weren’t the players sexually harassed by her outfit? Why is the only form of sexual harassment verbal? Why isn’t there visual?

Totalitarians of the left argue that if a guy who works in a body shop has a calendar up of women in bikinis, that is sexual harassment of females. They believe there is visual harassment of women but not of men.

One has a more frightening question to ask — is it absolutely necessary that female reporters go into male locker rooms. Do male reporters go into female locker rooms? No. Why isn’t that sexual discrimination? Why can women in provocative clothing enter the men’s locker room but men can’t enter the women’s locker room?

This is part of the insidiousness of what the left does to control men’s behavior. Women can make profoundly sexual statement with their clothing but men may not react verbally or visually (by staring).

Maybe Americans will never rebel at the control of their lives the left has instituted?

If it is done incrementally, it’s like the frog boiled by gradually hotter water. So too with our liberties. They are boiled at a slow rate and we don’t know to jump out. Now people are jumping out because President Obama and the Democrats didn’t do the boiling at a slow rate. With Obamacare, it became clear what the left stands for — more control of your lives.

What if she wasn’t a reporter and walked into the locker room provocatively dressed? She’d be committing a crime.

She walks into the locker room and they’re the bad guys. They have to apologize profusely and they have to take remedial courses in sexual harassment. At one place of work, I was in one of these seminars [at KABC], and I think I drove the woman crazy with her totalitarian talk about what was permitted. I can show you my breasts but you can not comment on them. That’s sexual harassment law in a nutshell.

Men don’t want female reporters in their locker room to begin with. It’s been forced on them by law.

Torah Talk Redux

Greg Leake emails: Hi Luke, it seems I have been subject to an examination.

Rabbi Rabbs, you are an honest man, and your problem is that you live in a world where other men are not.

Rabbi Rabbs, you said that most of your friends were not Jewish. I hope you consider me to be among them. My critique of the Orthodox community was not directed at you. If Orthodox Jews were as accessible and friendly as you are, I would never have written the critique in the first place. In other words, my problem with the Orthodox community is that they don’t act like Rabbi Rabbs. All I really want out of them is for them to be friendlier.

Luke, I don’t recall ever having had such an extensive conversation over a hamburger. It is possible that on the national and international stages Jews always become a focus of attention — about Israel, about the holocaust, etc., etc. However in the eyes of non-Jews this does not extend to ordinary daily life which can include grabbing a quick bite to eat from a fast food joint. The truth is that very few non-Jews even know what kosher is. (I don’t entirely know what kosher is… and I am vastly more knowledgeable than most.) For most of the non-Jewish world, Judaism is characterized by Jerry Seinfeld, Barbra Streisand, Fran Drescher, and other Jews in secular life. I would include Dennis Prager and Michael Medved for us conservatives. So I think Rabbs is correct when he understands that most non-Jews have no expectations one way or another about Jewish life. We now have so many different nationalized groups to worry about that we simply do not have the time or inclination to spend the small amount of free time most of us have worrying about the dimensions of some group other than our own. A Jew eating a hamburger simply does not rise to the level at which one would exercise concern even if they were among the rare breed that had ever heard the word kosher.

Rabbi Rabbs, I think there are deep philosophical and theological implications in your presentation about the nature, activity, and motivations of G-d. It could be that the view you gave us is a fundamental prerequisite in the philosophy of Idealism. Idealism fundamentally states that the universe can ultimately be shown to be a mental phenomenon. The great scientist Sir Arthur Eddington came to a similar conclusion after a lifetime of study and research. It is also interesting that your view feathers in very nicely to the concept of Tzimtzum, a principle of the Lurianic Kabbalah. And I never said there was no philosophical dimension to Judaism, only that you guys never talked about it. Now you have. Luke seems to have a lot of zeal in his insistence that Judaism is about nothing more than following rules. Rabbs, you have demonstrated that Judaism does have a philosophical dimension.

As an aside, you know that the Declaration of Independence says that “we hold these truths to be self-evident” and then goes on to say that we are endowed by a Creator with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The closest I’ve been able to come to an understanding of the nature of this Creator is a Kabbalistic one. As Rabbi David Cooper has discussed, one thing we can say about the Creator is that everything we have and everything that exists flow from this ultimate Creator. I won’t go into my ruminations except to say that the Kabbalistic reference comes closer than other religious presentations when assigning any characteristic to the Natural Law from whic the Declaration comes.

Rabbis Rabbs, when Americans first heard the world multiculturalism, we thought it meant more exhibitions at folk festivals.

Multiculturalism is injuring the United States. In the old days we had a few groups that required their insular neighborhoods. Today a huge number of groups are all hived into their little conclaves. The Irish have long since assimilated. Italians have pretty much assimilated even though you can still find Italian neighborhoods. …on and on through a lot of nationalities. This is what is supposed to occur. The idea is that we are a melting pot. But the conduct of immigrants is turning us into an undesirable salad bowl.

If I understand correctly, there are two main reasons for Jews wanting to retain their neighborhoods. One is to protect Jewish identity from homogenization. The other is protection from some kind of persecution.

I think that the idea of persecution can be dismissed. This is America. Jews hold positions throughout our power structure. Lieberman has even run for president. Prager and Medved are two of our national spokesmen. Jews hold public office; Jews are in our military. Jews are part of the fabric of American life. As a consequence, my view is that the way to increase Jewish security is to increase Jewish participation in ordinary life. This is not Nazi Germany. This is a place where Jews help control the reins of power. The best thing would be for Jews to let people know that they are good guys and be more like Rabbi Rabbs.

In the Christian world, a lot of young Christians find Christianity lacking, and as they get older they start looking elsewhere for spiritual sustenance. And one of the problems is that Christianity has been unsuccessful in delivering the spiritual life that would satisfy these young people. This is one of the reasons that the Catholic Church is returning to the Latin Mass. And the erosion of principle is what is causing a hemorrhage in the Anglican Communion. My question about this feature of religious life was directed at religions in general and not specifically Judaism.

We share something in common, because my problem with the frum community is
that it doesn’t think more like Rabbi Rabbs, ESPECIALLY in regards to stopping
the cycle of child abuse and resolving to get married and not have kids.

Obviously, you and I don’t agree about assimilation, as I see nothing
undesirable about salad bowls, and I am not sure I agree with the two reasons
you presented as to why Jews want to retain their neighborhoods. My
explanation for us doing that is that we are motivated by simple convenience,
as it is exponentially easier to live an often difficult and demanding frum
lifestyle when living in a big frum neighborhood. Here in LA, we have numerous
yeshivahs, mikvehs, synagogues, Jewish bookstores, Judaism supply stores,
kosher restaurants, kosher food markets, bakeries, and more, all within
walking distance.

That wouldn’t be the case where Luke lived in Sacramento, where even the
simplest things in Judaism become a major challenge and hassle because the
necessities aren’t locally available. A frum Jew might as well live on the
moon if they plan to live in Sacramento, as the challenges of the two
locations won’t seem that dissimilar.

You goyim have it so easy! You are supposed to have separate beds and during the two weeks of the month when you are permitted to each other, you push them together and have it!

Buffy posts: “Hahaaaaaaa. But how does the niddah link explain the two-week timeline? Shouldn’t the beds get to be pushed together for three weeks at a time, then? Or does the niddah have to spend a week at the mikveh first?”

You can only go to mikveh after a solid week without bleeding down there.

Flirty TV Reporter Ines Sainz Complains Jets Flirted With Her

Jemele Hill on ESPN’s First Take says today she’s seen Mexican TV reporter Ines Sainz acting in a flirty manner with football players. Her whole approach as a TV sports reporter is to flirt with her subjects. She does stories on such things as who has the biggest biceps in the NFL. To do the field research, she puts her hands on a lot of NFL biceps.

Ines Sainz says she was made to feel uncomfortable in the locker room. Well, duh! Here’s a flirty girl who’s all over NFL players and now she’s in a room with naked dudes she’s been flirting with.

Ines Sainz and other female reporters may not belong in a locker room filled with naked dudes. Male reporters don’t get to go into locker rooms filled with naked ladies. Why is that? Why don’t male reporters get to interview hot female tennis players when they’re naked? Why does this only go one way? Why is that OK?

Skip Bayless made a good point Sept. 15 on First Take that no reporter belongs in the locker room. It’s uncivilized.

Rabbi Rabbs emails: “Women have no business in a men’s locker room, period, and I don’t care how unpopular my opinion is, and you can quote me on that.”

On his radio show Sept. 15, Dennis Prager said:

Ines Sainz is a sports reporter for TV Azteca in Mexico.

She went into the New York Jets locker room and according to the USA Today, she was dressed in tight jeans, high heels, and a low-cut blouse.

You have a sexy young woman in a low-cut blouse. I’ve seen the pictures of this woman and the jeans and I don’t know how she gets into them. Maybe she sleeps in them? Maybe she showers in them? They’re very hard to get on and off, I have to believe, by simple laws of physics. She walks in high heels, which of course is the typical dress code for a locker room. The men are walking around essentially naked except for a towel perhaps. They whooped it up.

When she was outside the room, they overthrew two passes of a football at her, which, as you know, is a terrible form of harassment. The New York Jets have had to profoundly apologize. Anyone who’s defended in any way the Jets’ players has had to apologize. I’ll have to apologize. This is the totalitarian left at work. This re-education campaign. You have not acted the way the left wants you to act.

They say she was sexually harassed. Why weren’t the players sexually harassed by her outfit? Why is the only form of sexual harassment verbal? Why isn’t there visual?

Totalitarians of the left argue that if a guy who works in a body shop has a calendar up of women in bikinis, that is sexual harassment of females. They believe there is visual harassment of women but not of men.

One has a more frightening question to ask — is it absolutely necessary that female reporters go into male locker rooms. Do male reporters go into female locker rooms? No. Why isn’t that sexual discrimination? Why can women in provocative clothing enter the men’s locker room but men can’t enter the women’s locker room?

This is part of the insidiousness of what the left does to control men’s behavior. Women can make profoundly sexual statement with their clothing but men may not react verbally or visually (by staring).

Maybe Americans will never rebel at the control of their lives the left has instituted?

If it is done incrementally, it’s like the frog boiled by gradually hotter water. So too with our liberties. They are boiled at a slow rate and we don’t know to jump out. Now people are jumping out because President Obama and the Democrats didn’t do the boiling at a slow rate. With Obamacare, it became clear what the left stands for — more control of your lives.

I did a Google search on “Inez Sainz” and found her listed on a site for top 25 celebrity booties.

Only a homo or a holy man wouldn’t want to tap that!

Ines Sainz tweeted this photo to show that she was not dressed provocatively Saturday:

I’d say that her body is a provocation. I’d throw footballs at her too.

Ines Sainz regularly dresses in a sexy way while interviewing NFL players (and other sportsmen). Check out what she wore last night for the Jets-Ravens game:

Most female journalists are rough looking. It’s not a profession for those who don’t like to sweat. TV reporters, of course, are not really reporters. They’re entertainers. They rarely break news. Particularly not the sexy ones.

Sainz, who has previously appeared in several magazines wearing just a bikini, defended her appearance at the Jets practice session, insisting she dressed modestly, and posting a photo on Twitter to back up her claims.

‘Jeans and a white button-up blouse [are] in no way inappropriate,’ she tweeted.

She complained she was bombarded with so many catcalls at the training facility that she wanted to ‘cover my ears.’

But she later appeared to make something of a u-turn, claiming she ‘never felt attacked’ by what happened in the locker room and suggesting that it was other reporters who brought up the issue.

‘In my opinion, I never felt attacked, nor that they reacted grossly toward me,’she said.

‘I arrived in the locker room and there were comments and games. One of the other reporters came up to me and apologised for what was happening, but I thought [the players] were joking around.’

She then wrote on her Twitter page: ‘Thanks everyone for your support. I already spoke to the NFL, which will decide if there will or will not be consequences.

‘I can say that at the time I didn’t want to pay attention to what was happening but the rest of the media heard clearly and in solidarity have denounced what happened, hoping that there is always a respectful climate.’

If Ines Sainz wants to be taken seriously as a reporter, why does she pose in bathing suits?

The NFL is condemning remarks made by Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis concerning female reporters in the locker room.

On Tuesday, Portis told 106.7 The Fan that both players and female reporters have wandering eyes when the sexes are mixed in a locker room setting.

Portis said he was confident that female reporters working in team locker rooms would have some level of attraction to the players.

“I think you put women reporters in the locker room in position to see guys walking around naked, and you sit in the locker room with 53 guys, and all of the sudden you see a nice woman in the locker room, I think men are going to tend to turn and look and want to say something to that woman,” Portis said on WJKF-FM.

As for a female reporter’s reactions, Portis said, “You know, somebody got to spark her interest, or she’s gonna want somebody. I don’t know what kind of woman won’t, if you get to go and look at 53 men’s (bodies). … I know you’re doing a job, but at the same time, the same way I’m going to cut my eye if I see somebody worth talking to, I’m sure they do the same thing.”

League spokesman Greg Aiello says Portis’ comments are “clearly inappropriate, offensive, and have no place in the NFL.” He says the NFL has contacted the Redskins, who will discuss the matter directly with Portis.

How many male reporters would give their right nut to interview a naked Maria Sharapova? I’m a very holy man, but I might be a tad stirred in such a situation.

Men are, indeed, allowed in women’s locker rooms. Driving into work on Monday I heard a nationally syndicated radio commentator lamenting the fact that he couldn’t go in women’s locker rooms. Apparently he’s never attempted to cover women’s sports — sadly, not too surprising. But as this particular radio talker works for a network that covers both the WNBA and the women’s NCAA basketball tournament — and also employs several high profile women sports reporters — you’d think he might have checked his facts.

The WNBA — the playoffs are going on right now — has the same rules as the NBA. Open locker rooms at designated times. In the NCAA tournament, the same rules govern both men and women’s locker rooms — they’re both open at specific times. During the regular season, NCAA institutions can make their own rules about locker room availability, but during the tournament the NCAA has a uniform policy. When Stanford played UConn in last April’s championship, if you wanted to see how devastated Jayne Appel was after her terrible shooting night, you needed to be in the locker room. I was there. So were my male colleagues.

Yeah, but the men are not allowed into women’s locker rooms when they women are naked while female reporters are allowed into men’s locker rooms when the men are naked.
