Why You Should Not Compliment A Woman

David DeAngelo writes:

Women tell us they want us to compliment them.

Your mom told you to be nice to girls, right?

And we guys like to really "turn up" the compliments when we LIKE a woman…

But here’s the question:

Do compliments create ATTRACTION when you first meet a woman?

Most of the time the answer is NO.

I have a word for guys who like to give women lots of compliments when they first meet her.

That word is WUSSY.

Recently, I got an email from a woman about this very topic that I thought would be the perfect way to introduce this and explain WHY compliments are not the way to build attraction…

***QUESTION FROM A READER***

I agree that your "funny/cocky" routine works very well and women are attracted to it. Yet, I have to disagree with you on one aspect, women LOVE to be complimented. They live for it. Why else, but to get men’s attention and be complimented, do they spend hours getting ready, and buy all that sexy clothing? Sure, their faces light up when you make them laugh or they really have fun. But, how many times have you seen that special girl smile at you and kiss you like there’s no tomorrow when you tell her she’s the most incredible thing in the world and that she’s so beautiful you just can’t stop loving her? Probably never, because you think that’s a "wuss" thing to do. But, you don’t know how wrong you are.

>>>MY COMMENTS

I love that women are out there reading and thinking about my material (especially the Cocky & Funny comment). Good stuff.

I’m going to break down the things you’re talking about into a few specific topics, then address them individually.

Here are the three that I’d like to address:

1) The idea that women LOVE to be complimented.

2) The idea that women spend all of their time and energy getting ready and fixing themselves up because they want compliments.

3) The difference between complimenting a "special" girl and complimenting just ANY girl.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you read my commentary on this letter and these different topics:

A) We humans (and I’m talking about women in particular here) don’t always REALIZE what we REALLY want.

B) We humans don’t like to admit what’s REALLY going on inside of us, because it can be irrational and illogical.

C) It’s very important to realize that there is a CRITICAL difference between a girl you’ve just met or have dated a few times and a SPECIAL girl in your life.

So, let’s talk about the topics individually…

THE IDEA THAT WOMEN LOVE TO BE COMPLIMENTED

Do women love to be complimented?

I think so.

In fact, I think that many really ATTRACTIVE women FEED off of attention and compliments. The more attention and compliments they get, the better and more powerful they feel. It’s an ego boost.

BUT… and it’s a BUTTTTT bigger than J-Lo’s, this doesn’t mean that a woman will feel ATTRACTED to you if you give her compliments.

Attractive women get compliments in various forms all the time. In fact, they’re so used to getting compliments, that’s what they EXPECT.

As a matter of fact, if you start talking to an attractive woman and say, "Wow, you’re really beautiful. I mean, you’re like a goddess… are you a model or an actress?" etc., the most LIKELY response you’re going to get is her giving you the cold shoulder.

Why?

Because SHE GOT WHAT SHE NEEDED FROM YOU and you showed her that you’re JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER guy out there that will worship her for her physical beauty.

As a general rule, you ALWAYS want to avoid being mentally slotted into the "average" and "like all the other guys" category at ALL COST.

I have started conversations by giving a woman a compliment, but I NEVER let it become part of the actual conversation. If anything, I begin teasing and making fun of her looks as soon as possible, if she’s REALLY hot-looking. And I never give the compliment in a way that says, "I’m intimidated because you’re obviously very powerful and desirable."

Two Ravenous Females In One Night

From my live cam chat:

HoboBob:  TWO RAVENOUS FEMALES IN ONE NIGHT
HoboBob:  One got too intense, so I had to swat her away.
YourMoralLeader:  whoa
YourMoralLeader:  tell me more
HoboBob:  @#$%@ mosquitos.
HoboBob:  Must have 12 bites on me.
HoboBob:  I killed one on a wall with bug spray, thought I had ended it.  Then a few minutes ago I swatted another one in the midst of its blood meal; only the second time in my life I’ve managed to do that.

Debating Kosher Ethics

From the New York Times:

An immigration raid at the nation’s largest kosher meatpacking plant has opened a wide rift among Jewish leaders over the company’s ethical conduct and led to new interest in a campaign to create wage and safety standards for workers producing kosher food.

The Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville, Iowa, lost about half its work force when 389 illegal immigrants were detained there in May, causing shortages of kosher meat and poultry in butcher shops and supermarkets across the country.

Immigrants caught in the raid told labor investigators of unpaid overtime, lax safety measures and under-age workers at the plant. Their stories have troubled many kosher consumers and given impetus to a campaign known as Hekhsher Tzedek (which means “justice certification” in Hebrew) to create an additional seal of approval for kosher-certified products, indicating that the producers met certain standards for the treatment of workers.

“People want kosher food that is produced in an appropriate manner according to both ritual law and ethical law,” said Rabbi Morris J. Allen of Mendota Heights, Minn., who is leading the effort backed by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, representing the synagogues of the Conservative movement, and the Rabbinical Assembly, the organization of Conservative rabbis.

But while Rabbi Allen and others have criticized Agriprocessors, some Orthodox Jewish leaders rallied to the company’s defense. After touring the Postville plant on July 31, a delegation of 20 Orthodox rabbis, including leaders of kosher certification organizations from the United States and Canada, concluded Agriprocessors was “an A-1 place,” said Rabbi Pesach Lerner, vice president of the National Council of Young Israel, an Orthodox group.

‘Stick A Fork In Him’

khunrum emails: "Luke you are "flogging" so many different commodities…Hot Dogs, Beer, Music etc. etc. etc….why not go "all the way" and walk around Pico/Robertson with a Sandwich Board advertising your latest product. You’ll get some much needed exercise as well."

Chaim Amalek emails:

Luke’s previous internet ventures may have been primitive and on occasion downright smutty, but they garnered him a reputation as a blogger-journalist worthy of the attention of 60 Minutes. He’s lost much of that luster, a consequence, I fear, of there being no Cathy Seipp at hand to read him the riot act and introduce him to more conventionally successful literary types. Whereas before Luke hung out with LA Press Club types, these days he’s reduced to shilling for adsense dollars.

Stick a fork in him.

Joan Hyler Update

From carepages at noon today:

Joan rested comfortably during the night. She tolerated the surgery well. The swelling in her face has greatly decreased. At variously times she has appeared to recognize familiar voices and has started to fleetingly open her eyes in response. They had suspended feeding her intraveniously while she was waiting for the surgery; that feeding is now resumed. She is no longer sedated but is on a morphine drip. The third part of yesterday’s surgery–the part that was not completed–the insertion of a plate and screws to repair the humerus–is now scheduled for this coming Friday.

The action for today is for Joan to undergo an MRI and a C-T scan. The ICU is prepping her for these even as this is being written. Joan had been in a support collar from the beginning and they are now thinking of removing it, hence the MRI, to see if they can proceed. Relative to the C-T scan, Joan had suffered a substantial impact to the head, and while there was no fracture, there had been an internal bleed. The C-T scan will give us an up to date picture of where we are on this front.

This object turns out to be an alien creature with regenerative powers that will end up teaching important lessons to both father and son, amidst a dramatic turn of events in which Dicky is confronted to the harsh realities of life."

The Texan Girl

My friend Pascal and I were reminiscing about sharks.

To more precisely share his feelings, the frog sent me this:

Wilder, than a dozen hungry tigers

She played the baby cat, just to get to my heart

Clever, as a blind folded starved mouse

Before the quiet trap, I opened my heart

She said: hi I’m a texan girl

And I love your country so much

I hate money and I hate the crowd

Would you show me the country side

She said: you have music in your eyes

In front of a cup of tea

And a chocolate cake my mother made

While my guitar was turning red

She was so sweet sweet sweet

As her mother used to say

She’s a baby baby bab’

The baby of her dad

Later, I put on my blue suede shoes

My favorite jeans, as a rock n’ roll star

I showed her the country side, my secret places, my deep inside

And then she showed me …….oh my God!

She said soon I’ll have to leave

But our love is a gift from heaven

We must keep it, and we have to pray

For the Lord to give us faith

Then she left and I chose the motion

I sold my piano, I sold my car

My books, my stamps, and my grandma’s cat

For the gift not to stay so far

She was so sweet sweet sweet

As her mother used to say

She was the baby baby bab’

The baby of her dad

In Texas, she showed me everything

She showed more and more and even…. oh my God!

For six months, we planned so many things

The babies and the house, and a place for God

I said now, would you listen

I’m still an alien

I want to stay, and there is a way

Would you marry me today !?

She said now, that’s enough !

You have to be realistic

To have a chance, we have to pray

For the Lord to give us faith

She was so sweet sweet sweet ….

So I went away, and I had to work so hard

To pay a new piano, and an other car

I was sad, sad so sad, and my grandma was still mad

When a gorgious blond, guess what, came my way

She said you have music in your heart

You’re so sexy and you sing so well

Would you like to come to the USA

I’ll show you the wilder side!

I said no, my grandma’s cat is dead

My mother’s cake is so so bad

I rent my piano and I rent my car

And I’ve never been so far

She was so sweet sweet sweet

As her mother used to say

Since I pray pray pray

The way she taught me, each night !

………………oh  my Lord!

John Edwards Suckered Millions

I don’t understand why Democrats aren’t furious at this guy. He could’ve snagged the nomination and then become dead meat. If you gave money to John Edwards, weren’t you suckered? He lied to you. He deceived you. He could not be a viable candidate with his affair with Rielle Hunter.

Mickey Kaus writes:

Warren Buffett on John Edwards–Sue! Buffett on CNBC this morning [emphasis added]:

QUICK: You know, one of the things that the nation is watching is next week, the first of the conventions kicks off, the Democratic National Convention. Originally, John Edwards was expected to be speaking at that convention, but after some revelations and a spectacular fall about–some revelations about his private life, he will no longer be speaking at the convention. Warren, you’re somebody who has been supporting Barack Obama. Did you ever give money to John Edwards along the way?

BUFFETT: No, I didn’t–I didn’t give money to John Edwards. And, in fact, I think if I’d given money to him, I’d probably be asking for it back now. It’s an interesting situation because John Edwards essentially was soliciting money from people to further his ambitions for the presidency, and, you know, people sent him 50, $100, $200, and I would say that they sent it in while they were being misled by the person who was soliciting the money from them. And, you know, I think if I were Edwards, I might give up a haircut or two and refund at least, you know, the people that gave the 50 or $100, $200 items, because they– if they had known the facts, they wouldn’t have sent him the money, and he is the guy that didn’t give them the facts. I mean, he knew that, in effect, he wouldn’t be elected president. I mean, the story was out there during the campaign. He denied it, but it was out there. And, in fact, I’ve never heard of it, but it might be kind of interesting if somebody, some contributor, would bring a class-action suit on behalf of all these people who essentially were led to send money to a man under totally false circumstances, false pretenses, and where he knew it and didn’t tell them the truth.

QUICK: Hm, that’d be ironic for a trial lawyer…

BUFFETT: Yeah.

QUICK: …to have a class-action lawsuit brought against him.

BUFFETT: I’ve seen a lot of class-action suits with less to it than this particular case. The facts are clear. I mean, he solicited money and he wasn’t telling the truth to the people he was soliciting it from.

QUICK: How–have you had any discussions? I mean, obviously, you talked to a lot of people who are high ranked in the Democratic Party. Is that something that’s been thrown around out there, or did you cook this up yourself?

BUFFETT: No, I don’t think–I don’t think I’ve heard of that. The–I don’t talk to a lot of class-action lawyers, but I really think–I think those people were defrauded. They sent money under–with the person who was soliciting the money from them misinforming them even when the National Enquirer came out with it during his campaign, he kept soliciting money and saying it isn’t true. I would think that they–it might be a pretty good class-action suit.

QUICK: Even to this day, he says that he–they had 99 percent of it wrong, even in the most recent interview John Edwards came up with, although he admits that he did have an affair with a woman.

BUFFETT: Well, he would have a chance at a class-action suit to respond to that.

Heh! … I would think this would be a difficult precedent to contain–can donors sue McCain because he didn’t, in fact, get "the message" from the defeat of his immigration semi-amnesty bill–and he knew it? Maybe businesses have to live with this sort of uncertain class-action threat when they dissemble. Politicians will never stand for it.

Shootsac: Excellence and Style

I am not a professional photographer, though I take plenty of photos at the many press events I attend. I would also bet that my skills – practice does, indeed, make perfect – have improved markedly over the years, through the mere act of refining the way I snap pictures at, say, a movie premiere or a news conference. I have my cameras and lenses, but lack a great bag for the latter: a product that is durable, lightweight, attractive (for my inner metrosexual) and reasonably priced. Enter the Shootsac (www.shootsac.com), a lens bag that meets all of these criteria. I love – repeat: I love – the Shootsac. At the last two events I covered, I had to fumble for lenses and nearly scratched one of them. Disaster avoided — barely. I don’t need that kind of anxiety, which is reason enough to buy a Shootsac. In fact, I plan to do just that. Designed by an acclaimed photographer named Jessica Claire, the Shootsac bears the hallmark of a professional and the price of a good deal. Get it. Use it. Enjoy it.
