Is McCain A Conservative?

From Dennis Prager:

Thursday January 31, 2008
Prager H1: Dennis talks to Ari Fleischer, former presidential press secretary, about last night’s debate and the upcoming Super Tuesday primaries. John McCain took a cheap shot at Mitt Romney (he fired people when he was a businessman) that Fleischer found disquieting… Rudy Giuliani endorses John McCain. To McCain’s credit and unlike the Democratic nominees, McCain names our enemy – radical Islam.

Prager H2: Hitler came to power 75 years ago. Unlike Japan, Germany has acknowledged its dark past. A tribute to this country. Unfortunately, they have drawn the wrong lessons from it… Dennis plays clips from last night’s debate and comments.

H3: Who’s Lying? With Dennis Prager
Prager H3: The sharpest exchange in last night’s debate was between Mitt Romney and John McCain on the issue of whether Governor Romney called for a timetable of withdrawal from Iraq… Dennis talks to Ben Shapiro, bestselling author and a nationally syndicated columnist. Economists Dissect Repugnance

I align myself with the economists on this story from the NYT:

WASHINGTON — You can kill a horse to make pet food in California, but not to feed a person. You can hoist a woman over your shoulder while running a 253-meter obstacle course in the Wife-Carrying World Championship in Finland, but you can’t hold a dwarf-tossing contest in France. You can donate a kidney to prevent a death and be hailed as a hero, but if you take any money for your life-saving offer in the United States, you’ll be jailed.

These prohibitions are not imposed because of concerns about health or safety or unfair practices, some economists say, but because people tend to find such activities repugnant. In other words, just hearing about them can cause a queasy sensation in the pit of your stomach.

People don’t pay enough attention to how repugnance affects decisions about what can be bought and sold, asserts Alvin Roth, an economist at Harvard University.

Mr. Roth spoke at a recent panel on the economics of repugnance at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative research organization in Washington. For conservatives the issue can be particularly pointed. Economic conservatives tend to favor eliminating as many hindrances on the market as possible, while social conservatives believe some practices are so “repugnant” — because they violate traditional values or religious and moral prohibitions — that they should be banned from the marketplace altogether.

Facebook As A Pedagogical Tool

I was just talking to a teacher at a Jewish day school who’s got profiles in Facebook and MySpace. She says she learns more from her students profiles in five minutes than she otherwise would in five months.

A synagogue administrator was looking to hire someone to work with kids. She Googled the applicant, saw the raunchy stuff on his myspace, and decided against him.

I recently made the mistake of calling a young woman (about 22yo) "mam."

"I hate it when people call me ‘mam," she said. "People have only started calling me that in the past month."

Your Mohel Leader

Kirk emails:

Luke: I am dismayed and distressed. Of all the people who would do such a thing, I never thought it would be you. How in the world can you place yourself in such a high position of leadership when you have no credentials to back it up? You really want people to respect you as their Mohel Leader? So tell us, how many ritual circumcisions have you actually performed? Where did you get your training? You surely know to be a Mohel Leader takes years of study, training and supervised practice. I have been to many a Bris in the Pico Robertson community and never, I repeat never, have I seen you step forward to perform the circumcision. I suggest you achieve the proper qualifications before you continue this charade. I, for one, do not consider you my Mohel Leader!

I chiefly operate on women in third world countries (what do they need that naughty pleasure button for anyway?), not boys in Pico-Robertson.

H2: Youthful Enthusiasm With Dennis Prager

His resignation speech drips with his usual self-righteousness.

My Annihilation Method

I’m using Adolf Hitler to improve my luck with the opposite sex. When inviting them over for movies at the hovel wasn’t pulling, I suggested they come listen to the new book I got from the library on Hitler.

While I’ve yet to have success with this method, I’ve certainly grabbed attention.

I’m also offering some Holocaust movies and a Holocaust coloring book for needed balance in my cultural offerings.

Chaim Amalek emails:

I’m guessing you are using "Hitler’s Table Talk", which has a more conversational style than "Mein Kampf". Which book are you using? Which quotes? Hitler was very popular with the ladies, you know, and not just the frauleines. (Witness the Mitford sisters.)

Further to your efforts regarding your standing in the Jewish Community vs. your desire for fame above all, I suggest you pen the following article for HEEB Magazine:

"How I Use the Holocaust to Get Hot Shiksas to Have Sex With Me"

Then, consider writing another book: "The impoverished middle-aged man’s guide to getting laid in LA".

Hyponotism?  Roofies?  Brute force?

You’re not in good enough shape to use brute force.

Only you are to blame for your poverty. Do what I tell you to do when I tell you to do it, and you will become at least as rich and popular with the ladies as that Joe Francis person.

Living Without Hope

Chaim Amalek writes:

One by one, all the men in whom I invest my hopes for tomorrow seem to fall by the wayside. First Luke Ford, then Rudolf Giuliani. I tell you, if this Barak Hussein Obama becomes president, the Washington Monument will become the world’s tallest minaret from which Islam calls the loyal to prayers. If McCain wins, Mexico will reverse the outcome of the Mexican American war. If Clinton wins, Mexico wins, and lesbians will seize control over the entire national security apparatus built up by Bush. If Romney wins, so too do WalMart and their masters in Red China.

I have learned to live without hope.

Luke, you look terrible in your videos.

Sean Young to rehab after DGA outburst

I took a bunch of photos of Sean Young at a Blade Runner screening Dec. 9, 2007. If this is the face of alcoholism, then pour me a drink.

LOS ANGELES – Sean Young has entered rehabilitation for alcohol abuse following a weekend outburst in which she was heckling from the audience at the Directors Guild of America awards.

The 48-year-old actress was escorted from the ballroom at the Hyatt Regency in Century City Saturday night after sparring with Julian Schnabel, who was nominated for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."

"Actress Sean Young voluntarily admitted herself yesterday to a rehabilitation center for treatment related to alcoholism," a statement from Insignia PR said Tuesday. "It is understood that Young has struggled against the disease for many years."

H2: New Face, Old Message With Dennis Prager
Prager H2: Ted Kennedy endorses Barack Obama. In his endorsement speech, he spells out what the Obama administration will look like. It’s the same old Leftist ideas… President Bush gave his final State of the Union address last night. Dennis plays highlights and analyzes them.

Tuesday January 29, 2008
Prager H3: There are two types of relationships – horizontal and vertical. Horizontal is your relationship between you and your friends, and you and your spouse. Almost all other relationships are vertical – parent/child, employer/employee, teacher/student, and so on. You should seek to be loved in your horizontal relationships, but not in vertical ones.

   Length: 00:33:23

Dennis will be speaking for Chabad in Redondo Beach, CA Thursday night. He will be talking about the primaries and the coming election. You can get information on the event here.
