A prominent Orthodox rabbi has been caught on tape discussing his apparent love affair with a shiksa he was converting to Judaism — whom he allegedly also pushed to have sex with his friends.

Rabbi Leib Tropper of Rockland County is heard encouraging pretty, blond Shannon Orand of Houston to participate in phone sex and actual sex with men the rabbi knows, including one he calls “the Satmar guy.”

Tropper, who calls the woman “darling” and “cutie pie,” talks about his own love affair with her at one point, saying: “I want to squeeze you.”

He also fantasized about rape. “I could role-play a rape with you but I couldn’t actually rape you — you know what I’m saying, darling — does that make sense?” he asks.

The scandal has rocked the Orthodox community from Rockland to Israel, and transcripts of the sex tapes are circulating on Jewish blogs, with the audio posted on YouTube.

The rabbi talks about paying Orand money for a lawyer and a stipend of $1,300 for the month of November. He also mentions putting in writing an agreement between the two.

“Why would you want to document that kind of agreement on an e-mail?” an upset Orand asks.

Orand, who identifies herself on the tape, apparently recorded the phone conversations. “It was only supposed to go to a few leading rabbis,” Orand, 32, told The Post.

She refused to comment further, and later released a statement saying, “While an individual ‘rabbi’ acted in an inappropriate manner, my desire to become a bona fide Jew is undeterred.”

Orand reportedly told a Jewish blog, failedmessiah.com, that Tropper would tell her: “If you fulfill my needs, I’ll fulfill yours — and you need a conversion.”

The blog reported that Orand’s conversion was to have been finalized last week, but was canceled at the last minute by a religious court.

Tropper declined to comment, but a source close to him said the rabbi feels like he’s a victim and was used by Orand.

Here’s an interesting comment on the New York Post site: “Shannon Orand had the audacity to show up in temple yesterday. No one wants her around. This is not the type of person we want around our children, or community. Even the doctor she has been dating recently seemed to not want anything to do with her. Its disgusting that such a nice jewish community needs to be embroiled in such a scandal, especially when the woman involved is not even jewish.”

What’s The Big Difference Between LA And NY Orthodox Shuls?

There are hardly any single women in Los Angeles Orthodox shuls while New York shuls are filled with them.

The Upper West Side of Manhattan has the biggest Orthodox singles scene in North America. Los Angeles? Not so much.

In New York, there are dramatically more women than men in the city as a whole. In LA, there are dramatically more men than women.

Graduates of Los Angeles Jewish day schools invariably leave California for Israel or the North-East.

Why are there so few single Orthodox women in Los Angeles? Because there are no facilities for serious Torah learning in Los Angeles for the single. That’s why many Los Angeles men fly to New York for dates.

Steve Forbes Discusses His New Book – ‘How Capitalism Will Save Us’

On Dec. 14, 2009, Dennis Prager interviewed Steve Forbes about his new book, “How Capitalism Will Save Us.”

Steve: “When you look at economic disasters, it wasn’t some sudden failure of free people and free markets that caused the disasters, it was a government disaster that brought on the economic disaster. When free people and free markets with sensible rules of the road are allowed to operate, it a benign system that encourages trust because the only way you succeed in the free market is if you provide something that someone else wants.”

Dennis: “You attribute this to whom overwhelmingly?”

Steve: “The Federal Reserve, an institution that’s enormously powerful but gets little oversight in Washington. Congressman Ron Paul has introduced a bill to have an audit of the Fed, not to take its independence away, but to find out what it has done with the hundreds of billions it has shoveled out, what criteria they use in these massive bailouts…

“The Federal Reserve several years ago, then under Alan Greenspan, decided they had to print a lot of money and keep interest rates at artificially low levels to keep America from suffering the fate of Japan in the 1990s. Japan had a recession for a decade.

“When you shovel out a lot of money, the first place it goes into is commodities. That’s why we had gas prices go up. Then it went into the housing market. The housing bubble could not have happened if the Fed had not created the money for the bubble. If the Fed had done what is should’ve done, the fuel for the bubble would not have been there.

“Not to mention two other government creations – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. With the implicit guarantee of the U.S. government, they went on their own borrowing binge that no private lender could’ve done on that scale, and guaranteed $1.5 trillion in junk mortgages. They encouraged people to make no down payments, no principal payments, no interest payments. They figured housing prices would keep going up. Liars loans. You weren’t supposed to examine people’s claims on how much money they made.

“They created this huge wave of liquidity. Think of it as you would an automobile. You can have a magnificent vehicle but if you don’t have sufficient fuel, you’ll stall. Too much fuel, you’ll flood the engine. Just the right amount, you have the chance to move forward. Same with the economy. Greenspan flooded the engine.”

Dennis: “There’s no need of authorization from Congress for the Fed to print more money?”

Steve: “No.”

Dennis: “Did the credit rating agencies do a lousy job?”

Steve: “They did. That’s part of the problem. The [three] credit rating agencies are part of a government-sanctioned cartel. They have to be sanctioned by the SEC. If the rating agencies give a high rating, then a pension fund is covered legally.

“To give a comparison, a lot of publications rate colleges. The SEC doesn’t say only certain people can rate colleges. Anyone can rate a stock. But rating bonds? You have to go through these government-sanctioned rating agencies. So get rid of the cartel and let people decide whose ratings they will take seriously.”

“Wall Street was culpable but Wall Street would not have been in a position to do what it did if the Fed hadn’t created this inflated housing bubble. In terms of packaging this paper, if you didn’t have Fannie and Freddie giving its imprimatur to this stuff, there wouldn’t have been a market for it.”

Dennis: “You can’t bundle bad loans if there aren’t bad loans to be bundled.”

Steve: “It was the ultimate form of alchemy.”

“We need sensible rules of the road. We need disclosure, transparency, enforcement of contracts, rules against frauds, you can’t sell adulterated food, when you drive a car, you don’t go 90mph in a school zone, or when you get a new technology, you need patent law. What is fair use? The government should not tell you where to drive, and what to drive…”

What Caused The Housing Boom And Bust?

Dennis Prager talked to economist Tom Sowell, 79, on Dec. 15, 2009 about his new book “The Housing Boom and Bust”.

Dennis: “Who caused this bust?”

Tom: “Government. The people who were forced directly to make the bad loans under the Community Reinvestment Act (1977) and other legislation following it don’t constitute the majority of people who lend, that is true, but it is also true that about a decade ago, there was what was called a ‘voluntary agreement’ by those lenders not covered by the Community Reinvestment Act to in effect follow the same guidelines with the threat over them being that they would be prosecuted for discrimination if they didn’t. This prosecution…would be imposed if you were a lender who refused to lend on a house worth less than a $60,000 since low-income minorities are more likely to buy this kind of house and would be a ‘disparate impact.’”

Dennis: “Is it government bureaucrats or greedy bankers?”

Tom: “Government bureaucrats. I don’t know how anybody can measure greed. Were [bankers] less greedy during the period things were going wonderfully or did they become greedy only after things turned bad?

“There’s a history of the government, particularly the Department of Housing and Urban Development, imposing quotas on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to buy up mortgages that the original lenders made to people who were low income, minorities, or other criteria. How can you say it was not the bureaucrats? That most of those who lent money during the boom were not subject to the boom, but they also had a ‘voluntary’ agreement with HUD to follow the same practices of those directly regulated.

“The government had life and death powers over lending institutions. The ordinary business decisions that companies can make in the free market, many of these companies can not make without government approval. They can hold up your approval at their discretion.”

Dennis: “In Canada, they didn’t have this bust. Canadian banks are not allowed to leverage nearly as much as American banks. Isn’t that a good regulation?”

Tom: “Yes, but it wasn’t just that, at the heart of it is the mortgage loans made to people who had a low probability of paying them back. As long as they were paying back the mortgage loans, there was no crisis. That’s one of the reasons it is hard to blame the ratings agencies for that. There was no evidence out there.

“The real problem was that no one knew how risky these new devices, the subprime loans, the no-money-down things… Those were all new. There was no reasonable way to rate them. And yet the law required them to be rated, and the law also specified that three agencies had the sole power to rate them for the purposes of SEC regulation. They had to certify these things and they gave their best guess.”

Dennis: “When did this idea that you have to make these loans to people in poor categories, when was that set?”

Tom: “The idea goes back to the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977. Like a lot of legislation, nothing was done for years until it was passed. What set off a lot of the new activity were studies suggesting that banks were discriminating against blacks and other minorities. That set off a political crusade. You got a government inquisition.”

Dennis: “You believe that banks would not have given out those loans were it not for governmental pressure?”

Tom: “Not only do I not believe it, obviously the government didn’t believe it or they wouldn’t be imposing quotas. Janet Reno would not have been threatening lending institutions with prosecution if she didn’t like their statistics.”

Dennis: “Was the Savings and Loans crisis of the 1980s caused by the deregulation?”

Tom: “It was the combination of deregulation and the government guaranteeing these organizations without putting restrictions on them, which is essentially what they’ve done with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Everyone assumed, correctly, that when push came to shove, the U.S. Treasury would step in and guarantee the losses by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”

Dennis: “The Right believes the housing crisis was caused by too much government intervention and the Left believes it was caused by greed. I don’t know how you abolish greed outside of religious preachers doing their job… Society can’t do it. When the government wants to abolish bad traits, we’re doomed.”

Tom: “The mortgage market for about a century was considered one of the safest markets around. That’s where the widows and orphans would put their money so they would have something to live on. This is not like commodities speculation. For all these decades, greed didn’t have a bad effect. It was only when the politicians stepped in.

“So many people warned before this happened. I did a piece in the Wall Street Journal in 2005 in which I said that these financial arrangements can collapse like a house of cards, but I was not even among the first 100 who said something like that. The politicians, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, all dismissed the dangers.”

Funky Frum

I’m walking up Pico Blvd Shabbos morning and near Aish HaTorah on the other side of the street, I see a sign announcing that a store has closed and “moved to the internet.” It was FunkyFrum.com.

Walking East on Pico at 10:55 am, I see a well-built Filipino guy holding his arm and walking towards a dry cleaner.

There’s something weird going on. I feel it in the air.

The guy is walking normally but holding his wrist tightly. What could be wrong? I feel something is very wrong.

Then I hear a plain white woman, around 30, screaming, “Patrick! Patrick! Patrick! Get in the car. We’ve got to go to the hospital. We’ve got to go to the hospital.”

He walks past me and says to the woman, “Get away from me! Leave me alone! Leave me alone!”

Then I see the spurting blood coming out of his wrist.

I don’t understand what happened, but it feels like she did something to him.

She corrals him back to the car and keeps yelling, “We’ve got to go to the hospital!”

He opens the passenger door awkwardly, still holding the wound. He gets in and struggles to close the door.

She gets in. Then she gets out and runs to the back of the car and then turns around and returns to the driver seat and roars off East on Pico Blvd.

They had been right next to me. I wanted to help and yet I was afraid to get involved. The couple seemed scary. He was calm and she was yelling but both seemed unsafe.

I don’t think he inflicted the wound. I don’t think she did it intentionally if at all.

I wanted to yell to them, “Follow me,” and lead them into Aish HaTorah and yell, “Is there a doctor in the house?”

There are usually doctors in a synagogue and a first-aid kit to staunch the bleeding.

But I did nothing.

Meeting The Tests Women Throw Your Way

I just read Orit Arfa‘s new ebook, “Survival of the S—test“.

I wish she hadn’t used an obscenity as her title and theme. I’m not into the fecal.

It’s not Jewish to muck around in that stuff.

Oy, what will the goyim think?

Nevertheless, this is the best book I’ve read on understanding and passing the many tests women throw at their men.

“Survival” is an excellent companion to “The Game: Inside the Secret Society of Pickup Artists” by Neil Strauss, one of the five books that most influenced me along with “Man’s Search For Meaning” by Viktor Frankl, “The Nine Questions People Ask About Judaism” by Dennis Prager and Joseph Telushkin, “Titus Andronicus” by William Shakespeare, and “The Holy Bible” by HaShem.

I first met Orit on Tishu B’Av 2001. She was 23 and gorgeous, and as innocent as your typical yeshiva girl. She sat in my chair while I lay on my bed of nails and I gazed at her long legs stretching the length of the hovel as we discussed the great issues confronting the Jewish people in the new millenia (porn and stuff). As I stared into her neshama, I found my mind, to my great distress, wandering away from the the destruction of the holy Temple into more fertile pastures.

Modest clothing is so very important. Weak men such as myself are constantly taunted and tantalized in Los Angeles by young female flesh and in the competition between an invisible God and a visible thigh, the Almighty, the Master of the Universe, the Holy One, Blessed Be He, tends to lose out in my mind to Orit Arfa.

On that holy day, the fledgling writer-painter talked about various books she was working on, including a commentary on Genesis.

Since that shining citadel in time, I’ve come to appreciate Orit for her sterling artistic, moral and intellectual qualities so often on display in the Jewish Journal and I no longer, Baruch HaShem, think of her as a sex object.

However, many of my readers are not so elevated as me, and they want a concrete way to determine Orit’s worth as a woman (and whether or not they should buy her book).

The Torah teaches me to meet people as they are, not as I wish them to be. Ergo, I present to you the First Lady of Jewish Journalism in Los Angeles:

I like to imagine that this last picture is Orit contemplating her Moral Leader in all his hovel-dwelling, bearded majesty.

I feel sad about the number of times I’ve failed to meet Orit’s tests. I feel so small, like my conversion didn’t count with the Chief Rabbinate.

I’ll be the first to admit that I have a hard time connecting with people, with Orit and Amy and Danielle and all the hot chicks at the Jewish Journal. I’ve done no better with them than I have with the RCC! Five shuls have ejected me, 5000 women have rejected me. But it’s always one that hurts the most.

Forty years ago, I failed to connect with my parents. They were too busy dying (mom) and evangelizing (dad). This has haunted me ever since and corrupts my every relationship.

I often get into tiffs with my girls because I have a hard time expressing my hurt feelings in real time. Instead, I tend to store up resentment until finally venting it in email, which never goes over well. She inevitably cancels our plans to meet up, and the demon seed builds up inside of me, and I feel alone in the hovel and emasculated, as though Rabbi U. cut the whole thing off in a fit of pique over my blogging. He doesn’t have that power, does he?

The next time I think we have a date and instead I hear, “Luke, my psychiatrist gave me a lot to think about, I talked to him about you, I think I’m going to go home to write in my journal, sorry for flaking on you,” I’m going to be a man and say, “I don’t think that’s a good idea because the emotional chill that will result from this will last for days and weeks and maybe forever. Why don’t you come over as scheduled and tell me everything that’s bothering you and, if you’re interested, I’ll tell you everything that is bothering me and we’ll work it through.”

I wonder what are the most common tests I fail with women?

Number one is my very awkward failure at connecting with humanity (of which I have learned lately that women are a part). Women often look at me in a social gathering and they just think I’m pathetic. They just feel sorry for me.

Oy, that is no good.

Number two, I have no sense of my own worth. Much of the time, I don’t feel worthy of chatting up a cute girl. I can’t look her in the eye. I feel like I’ve got “Failure!” written across my forehead.

I always get a feeling about a woman, a feel about whether or not she’s out of my league. If I think for a second she’s out of my league, I never succeed with her.

Yeah, I’ve shtupped a lot of porn stars, but that just shows my moral depravity.

Guma Aguiar’s Closest Rabbi is Tovia Singer

Aguiar has come a long way toward these understandings. Despite having been born Jewish, Aguiar was raised as an Evangelical Christian, encouraged to participate in Christian youth groups and church events throughout his young life. At the age of 26, Aguiar moved to Houston, Texas with the determination to find oil beneath the soil. Seeking out a Christian congregation to join, he encountered Rabbi Tovia Singer who has devoted his life to helping Jews in the church return back to the truth and beauty of the Jewish faith. Rabbi Singer is the founder of Outreach Judaism and popular talk show host on Israel National Radio.

“Initially, when I first heard about Rabbi Singer’s efforts I thought that he must be some sort of anti-Christ, and I was really upset about his mission. So I decided to call him and argue with him. As a devout Christian, I couldn’t fathom why he was doing this work! I asked him “What are you doing? You’re trying to pull Jews out of the church? That’s the worst thing you could possibly do,” I argued. “Within 5 minutes of talking to Tovia, he entirely disassembled my entire belief system, and all the pieces of the puzzle came together within that first conversation. I repented during that first conversation, and I returned immediately to my true heritage, the Jewish faith.”

His revelation came at a price, however. Soon, his relationship with his family and friends began to crumble. “It was a disaster. My whole life went up in flames,” Aguiar said.
