Wallace contacted university police early Sunday evening after receiving numerous death threats via e-mail and phone, said UCPD spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein.
Police advised her to take a number of precautions and are currently working to ensure her safety, Greenstein said.
“If she’s received a death threat, I find that as deplorable as her original YouTube video. If this is the response of students on campus, we’ve got a lot of work to do,” said Robert Naples, associate vice chancellor and dean of students.
Within three days, the video provoked a tremendous response, both inside and outside the UCLA community.
Speaking Sunday night, a university spokesman called the video “repugnant.”
Wallace sent a statement to the Daily Bruin early Monday morning apologizing for her remarks.
“Clearly the original video posted by me was inappropriate,” she said in the statement. “I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would. I’d like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus. For those who cannot find it within them to accept my apology, I understand.”
As a consequence, I would feel it was my duty to implement long, lingering punishment except that I am a happily married man. Therefore, I’m afraid I will have to rely on you to implement whatever discipline is needed to restore ethical balance with this very naughty little girl.
On one of your posts earlier as you warmed up to Torah Talks, a couple of statement were made that I find questionable.
One that Judaism is practical, even prosaic, and two, that Christianity is a romantic approach to religion.
I have no doubt that Judaism is practical when seen from the point of view of hermeneutics. I imagine that the entire corpus of Judaism has great internal integrity relative to its own parts.
However, I will have to say that Judaism can be enormously impractical relative to the culture it finds itself in.
There is nothing practical about having to bypass cheaper, more pleasant digs because you are forced to move into a neighborhood near a synagogue.
There is nothing practical about having to dress in a fashion that automatically excludes employment in some areas.
It is not practical to find it necessary to bypass every possibility of eating if it’s not kosher. (Which even means excluding meals in health food stores where the entire selling point of the product is its purity, naturalness, and health.)
It is not practical to have to walk to shul. (What if you’re too old? What if it’s raining? no wonder Dennis Prager was content to drive.)
One could continue. Now I do not challenge that some of these precepts may be virtuous in their own way, particularly seen as part of the integrity of their own system. But frankly, I just could not list Judaism as being practical when seen in the context of the wider culture.
Also a word about the idea that Christianity is romanticism. You know, this claim might be borne out in a few places, but it starts from an assumption that Jesus bin Joseph was not divine. And naturally, as Christians believe that he was divine, an entirely different calibration would have to be made in order to accommodate the notion that Christianity was romantic. i would also say that you can’t look at theologians like Dietrich Bonhoffer and suggest there was anything romantic about his approach to G-d. As you know, he was the Protestant theologian who was captured for conspiring against the Nazis and then held briefly before he was executed. His last writings were down in his prison cell before the Nazis murdered him. Additionally, you can’t find romanticism in Paul Tillich, the first Protestant theologian to be kicked out of Germany by the Nazis for preaching against mistreatment of Jews up and down Germany. As a religious existentialist, his philosophy of religion was formed after having had a nervous breakdown when he was chaplain in World War I, watching the savagery of trench warfare.
Now if you wanted to count as romantic the funny YouTube you posted of the Catholic girl believing that G-d was destroying Japan because they were atheists, I might give you some slack. (Some Japanese are atheists; many are Buddhists, and others practice Shintoism.)
As morally wrong as it is to murder innocent adults, mankind seems to have a built-in revulsion against killing babies. If a baby does not evoke any tenderness, if a baby is regarded as worthy of being deliberately hurt or murdered, we know that we have encountered a degree of evil that few humans — even among murderers — can relate to.
That is why what Palestinian terrorists did to a Jewish family on the West Bank this past weekend deserves far more attention than it received. Normally Palestinian atrocities get little attention — certainly far less attention than an Israeli apartment building on the West Bank receives. But this particular atrocity got even less attention than usual because the world was focused on the terrible tsunami that hit Japan.
On Friday night, Palestinian terrorists slipped into a Jewish settlement, entered a home, and stabbed the father, the mother, and three of their children to death: an eleven-year-old, a four-year old, and a three-month-old baby.
In order to understand what those actions mean, a seemingly separate incident needs to be recalled: the prolonged sexual attack by up to 200 Egyptian men on Lara Logan, chief foreign-affairs correspondent for CBS News, in Tahrir Square, Cairo, a few weeks ago. It was reported that after stripping her naked and then molesting and beating her, the men kept shouting “Jew, Jew!”
The two incidents tell the same tale. In much of the Arab Muslim world, and some of the non-Arab Muslim world (such as Iran) today, “Jew” is not a person. “Jew” is not even merely the enemy. In fact, there is no parallel on earth to what “Jew” means to a hundred million, perhaps hundreds of millions of Muslims.
Think of any conflict in the world — Pakistan–India, China–Tibet, North Korea–South Korea, Tamil–Sinhalese. There are some deep hatreds there, and atrocities have been committed on one or both sides of each of those conflicts. But in none of those conflicts nor anywhere else is there something equivalent to what “Jew” means to millions of Muslims.
There really is only one historical parallel, and it, too, involved the word “Jew.” The Nazis also succeeded in fully dehumanizing the word “Jew.” Thus, for Nazism, it was as important (if not more so) to murder Jewish babies and children — often through as cruel a means as possible (being burned alive, buried alive, or thrown up in the air and impaled on bayonets) — as it was to murder Jewish adults.
The human being does not have to learn to hate. It seems to come pretty naturally. Nor does the human being have to learn to murder, steal, or rape. These, too, seem to be in the natural human repertoire of evils.
But the human being does have to learn to hate children and babies, and to regard the torture and murder of them as morally desirable acts. It takes years of work to undo normal protective human attitudes toward children.
That is precisely what the Nazis did and what significant parts of the Muslim world have done to the word “Jew.” To them, the Jew is not just sub-human, the Jew — and his or her children — is sub-animal.

Dennis: “The [housing crisis and recession] was caused by banks being coerced into giving sub-prime loans to people who could not afford them.”
John: “No. Banks weren’t coerced into it. They willingly greedily leapt into that process. Starting with local mortgages to the people in Europe and Asia buying those bonds, there was greed involved… Mortgage bankers, investment bankers, got bonuses [for the superior earnings that came with investing in risky bonds]. The Fed kept rates too low for too long. The ratings agencies were supposed to be the adults supervising the sandbox. There was nobody supervising the sandbox. The ratings agencies, for all intents and purposes, were handing out fake IDs at an underage teenage drinking party.”
John: “That was a minor part. Greed was the issue.”
Dennis: “Human greed was in existence since Adam. The CRA was new.”
John: “You had investment bankers who could buy crap and sell it and make a 1.5% spread. Those are huge bonuses. And you could do that every week.”
Dennis: “Why did it begin when it began?”
John: “Low rates. Pensions and investors started reaching for yield. It was the confluence of a lot of things. The list of culprits is three pages long. We didn’t learn our lessons. We still haven’t put derivates on an exchange. My biggest worry is a European bank crisis affecting the U.S. Our banks have sold so many trillions of dollars of derivatives that look like they’re balanced but that derivative is only as good as the counter-party.”
On his radio today, Dennis Prager said: “If this article is accurate, then it was very wrong what the congressman did.”
“I have refrained from saying anything critical of Congressman Ellison because of the article I wrote years ago when he was first sworn in and sworn in on a Koran, and I wanted him to swear on a Bible rather than a Koran. I think I made a mistake. My reasoning was sound. My values were sound. My upshot was not sound. I said it at the time and I say it again today.
“I actually apologized to him in the halls of Congress. We met up. I apologized. He not only accepted by apology very graciously, he told me his mother is a big fan of the show. She listens every day.”
New York Times, had scholarship funds named after him, was honored by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly (both of whom went barefoot to honor Muslim practice) at his funeral, and has been celebrated over and over again by the media.
The belief that Mohammed Salman Hamdani was a victim of anti-Muslim bigotry was never based in reality. It was manufactured by the Left as a rhetorical prop, exploited as a bludgeon against people who want to talk seriously about terrorism. If Hamdani was singled out for his faith, it would appear he was singled out for especially high honors. Most 9/11 victims were not half so celebrated as he was. Rather than suffering from apocryphal American anti-Muslim bigotry, Salman Hamdani appears to have benefited from America’s eager inclusiveness.
Americans have long seen Mohammed Salman Hamdani as a hero. Too bad Representative Ellison saw him only as a prop.

The New York Daily News reports: A busty model and an angry snake together for a photo shoot – what could possibly go wrong?
Orit Fox’s attempt at seductive posing with a massive boa took a bizarre turn when the snake bit one of the Israeli B-Lister’s surgically enhanced breasts in the middle of a shoot for a Tel Aviv radio station, ABC of Spain reported.
All was going well for the silicone-addicted Fox until she tried to ramp up the sex factor by licking the snake. The move proved costly as she loosened her grip on the reptile, which went straight for the model’s left breast implant and latched onto it for several seconds before being pulled off by an assistant.
Fox was rushed to a local hospital, where she was given a tetanus shot.
According to several media sources, the snake wasn’t so lucky and died of silicone poisoning.
TEL AVIV — A snake who bit Israeli model and actress Orit Fox in the chest died after being poisoned by an unusual venom — the silicone in the buxom blonde’s surgically enhanced breasts.
Spanish TV channel Telecinco’s footage of Fox’s encounter was racking up YouTube hits Monday, with some users lamenting, “R.I.P. snake,” and the less-informed commenting: “I wish I was that snake!”
The video shows the model fondling and licking the serpent for a feature in Israeli DJ Shmulik Tayar’s radio show, before the snake got fresh with Fox and latched on to her bountiful left breast.
The model yelped as a man wearing a T-shirt with a Spanish profanity written on the back rushed over to help.
Israel is a land of plastic surgery, not just milk and honeys.
Public relations efforts focus on publicizing articles where surgeons are mentioned, and are camouflaged as consumer pieces or touching personal stories. Such a story is the breast-reduction operation of Orit Fox, 28, who still, even after the procedure, apparently has the largest chest in the country. Why a reduction? Because a few years ago Klein – at her request – inserted silicone implants in her with a volume of 1,300 cubic centimeters, on each side.
“In the army I decided to enlarge,” said Fox in an interview with Einat Ehrlich on the Israeli entertainment channel. “My obsession is my breasts.” Fox had a naturally large chest, and several doctors would not agree to enlarge it. “I continued to look for a doctor, and everyone told me: ‘Dov Klein will operate on you.'” Fox’s satisfaction did not last long. Adi Barkan, her agent, was also unhappy, and Fox volunteered to have a 500-cc. reduction. This surgery was followed in great detail by a film crew sent on behalf of TV presenter Guy Pines.
Who initiated the Fox news report?
Pines: “I think we were invited by that doctor, or it’s possible that we read about it in the paper and we approached them. The doctors are very interested in doing such things, and Dov Klein most of all. It’s quite common for doctors to employ PR people and publicize their operations.”
Doesn’t this seem to you like a voyeuristic activity that encourages plastic surgery?
“I don’t feel that I’m leading a trend, but rather reflecting a situation. I don’t talk about it either admiringly or critically. Although we show it, we also express our opinion … I don’t condemn the phenomenon as a phenomenon – not as a human being and not on the show. I think that if someone does it because it’s his way of being a better person, that’s his right, but I wouldn’t want to encourage it. In the case of Orit Fox, the idea behind it was, ‘God, what is this thing and who is this doctor who is so eager to be famous?”‘
Klein himself is very eager to become famous, at any cost, it seems: “Orit did not have large implants. There are places in the world, in the U.S. or in Germany, where they make much larger breasts than that.”
But it’s not healthy, it damages one’s back.
Klein: “There are patients who want that. I can explain the consequences of this operation, but they have to take responsibility.”
There were doctors who didn’t agree to do this implant for her.
“I can’t take responsibility for the decisions of mature women.”

Okay, so here at UCLA it’s finals week.
So we know that I’m not the most politically correct person so don’t take this offensively. I don’t mean it toward any of my friends I mean it toward random people that I don’t even know in the library. So, you guys are not the problem.
The problem is these hordes of Asian people that UCLA accepts into our school every single year, which is fine. But if you’re going to come to UCLA then use American manners.
So it used to really bug me but it doesn’t bother me anymore the fact that all the Asian people that live in all the apartments around me — their moms and their brothers and their sisters and their grandmas and their grandpas and their cousins and everybody that they know that they’ve brought along from Asia with them – comes here on the weekends to do their laundry, buy their groceries and cook their food for the week. It’s seriously, without fail. You will always see old Asian people running around this apartment complex every weekend. That’s what they do. They don’t teach their kids to fend for themselves. You know what they don’t also teach them, is their manners.
Which brings me to my next point. Hi, in America we do not talk on our cell phones in the library. I swear every five minutes I will be — okay, not five minutes, say like fifteen minutes — I’ll be in like deep into my studying, into my political science theories and arguments and all that stuff, getting it all down, like typing away furiously, blah blah, blah, and then all of a sudden when I’m about to like reach an epiphany… Over here from somewhere, “Ooooh Ching Chong Ling Long Ting Tong, Ooohhhhh.”
Are you freaking kidding me? In the middle of finals week? So being the polite, nice American girl that my momma raised me to be, I kinda just gave him what anybody else would do that kinda like, [puts finger up to lips in a “shh” motion]. “You know it’s a library, like, we’re trying to study, thanks!” And then it’s the same thing five minutes later. But it’s somebody else, you know — I swear they’re going through their whole families, just checking on everybody from the tsunami thing. I mean I know, okay, that sounds horrible like I feel bad for all the people affected by the tsunami, but if you’re gonna go call your address book like you might as well go outside because if something is wrong you might really freak out if you’re in the library and everybody’s quiet like you seriously should go outside if you’re gonna do that.
So, thanks for listening, that was my rant. I just — even if you’re not Asian you really shouldn’t be on your cell phone in the library but I’ve just never seen that happen before so thank you for listening and have a nice day.
What Ms. Wallace posted was very offensive and, as an Asian-American, very much upset me. In fact, I am so upset that I believe she should be punished by expulsion, public humiliation, and maybe even solitary confinement at a high security prison. You see, apart from the inevitably irreparable damages she’ll sustain from other angry Asian-Americans such as myself, I feel she deserves even more punishment from the UCLA administration. After all, there’s nothing worse for UCLA’s image than one student’s posting her opinion on the Internet–not even the hordes of people posting her contact information and planning to harass her during her final exams. Again, freedom of speech is not a right, especially for college students. Ms. Wallace should burn in hell for her actions and I will not rest or begin studying for finals until justice is had.
Some are questioning plans to host an all African-American spelling bee in Houston this spring, saying it sends the wrong message to students.
Kids from five local schools will compete in the first-of-its-kind spelling bee in May. Organizer Jacqueline Terrell insists it helps level the playing field for many students.
“Most children that make it to the level to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, are either homeschooled or attend private school,” says Terrell. “They have more access to one-on-one training than children in public or inner city schools.”
