I heard about this going on at UCLA when I was there in 1988-1989. I heard about the pimping out of black football players to rich boosters.
This was talked about among the faculty and how little respect they had for faculty members who engaged in this.
The faculty who assisted in the pimping out of black athletes regarded the athletes as dumb animals.
I know this pimping is common in college sports.
College kids usually have no money. Athletes are frequently stupid. Rich men have money. Young people with no money and few brains and morals are often happy to have sex for money. Men with money are often happy to spend some money to get the sex they want.
If college athletes were paid, they might be less likely to turn tricks.
It sounds like this went on at Penn State too:
In April, Pittsburgh radio host Mark Madden wrote a story revealing Penn State for much of the cover-up of Jerry Sandusky’s alleged child rape that has been exposed in the past week. While it didn’t raise many eyebrows back then, six months later it looks to be incredibly accurate.
On Thursday morning, just hours after legendary head coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were fired by the school’s board of trustees, Madden was asked on The Dennis and Callahan Show what he believes the next piece of news will be.
What he said was twice as shocking as anything that’s been released thus far.
“I can give you a rumor and I can give you something I think might happen,” Madden told John Dennis and Gerry Callahan. “I hear there’s a rumor that there will be a more shocking development from the Second Mile Foundation — and hold on to your stomachs, boys, this is gross, I will use the only language I can — that Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors. That was being investigated by two prominent columnists even as I speak.”
After the news spread, Madden later explained via Twitter why he went public with the rumors.
“I normally abhor giving RUMORS credence,” Madden wrote. “But whole Sandusky scandal started out as a RUMOR. It gets deeper and more disgusting all the time. One of state’s top columnists investigating. That adds credence. I am NOT rumor’s original source. [Why does] Sandusky deserve benefit of doubt?”
Those arrested are mainly (or all?) Persian Jews. A shanda for the goyim!
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Seven former and current students of a prestigious Long Island high school were arrested Tuesday in an alleged SAT cheating ring.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced that six Great Neck North High School students had paid 19-year-old Samuel Eshaghoff thousands of dollars to take the SAT for them.
Dennis Prager writes: Outside of the rarefied confines of climate science, the vast majority of people who believe the man-made global warming thesis know nothing about climate science and the vast majority of skeptics also know nothing about climate science.
So, on this issue, we all choose what to believe and what to do. I am skeptical because I am not prepared to wreck the Western world’s economy — which is already on the brink of debt-caused collapse — because of computer models about what may happen in half a century.
I am skeptical because climate change is utterly normal — and has never been caused by humans.
I am skeptical because so many pieces of evidence seem to be flawed — from the allegedly shrinking numbers of polar bears to global warming allegedly causing the receding of Mount Kilimanjaro’s glaciers.
But the biggest reason for my skepticism has been, from the beginning, that those most pushing the global warming thesis have cried “wolf” about threats to humanity so often that they have lost all credibility with me and numerous others.
I cite nine examples of these threats, each one of which has turned out to be untrue.
I began in Part 1 with three examples: the hysteria over nuclear power, the false claims about the dangers of silicone breast implants and the outright lies about the number of women who die from anorexia. Feminists such as Gloria Steinem had claimed that 150,000 girls and women die every year of anorexia nervosa. She got that number from another feminist, Naomi Wolf, who has compared anorexia in America to the Holocaust. Wolf, in turn, explained that she got the number from another feminist, Joan Brumberg, former director of women’s studies at Cornell University. And Brumberg says she got the number from the American Anorexia Bulimia Association. When asked, the association said that it was misquoted, that it said there are 150,000 women who suffered from anorexia, not who died from it each year. (Editor’s note: This organization no longer exists; it was absorbed by the National Eating Disorders Association in 2001.) For the record, according to the World Health Organization, the number of American women who die each year from anorexia is around 200. How big a lie the 150,000-number is can be rather easily demonstrated. In the year 2009, fewer than 50,000 females between the ages 15 and 44 died in America of all causes.
Here are another six examples of untruths with which the left has tried to frighten Americans.
4. Heterosexual AIDS in America: In the 1980s, American media featured cover articles about the looming epidemic of heterosexual AIDS in America. They made sure to feature white heterosexual women — members of the second-least likely demographic group in America to contract AIDS (the least likely were lesbians) — in order to illustrate that, in the politically correct phrase of the day, “AIDS doesn’t discriminate.” Or as a Life magazine cover put it, “Now, No One Is Safe.” It was an untruth fostered by the left, including, unfortunately, a fair share of scientists. Of course, in Africa heterosexual AIDS is a very real problem. Indeed, it is a terrible pandemic, the ravages of which I saw firsthand in Zambia and Zimbabwe when I went there to volunteer to help families of AIDS victims.
5. Secondhand smoke: The longest living, healthiest generation in history, American baby boomers, has bought the notion that secondhand smoke is a major killer even though most of them grew up with daily secondhand smoke. Fifty thousand Americans a year, we are told, are killed by secondhand smoke. This is another hysteria masquerading as science. One highly regarded UCLA epidemiologist, Dr. James Enstrom, has debunked the mainstream epidemiological studies on secondhand smoke. His findings, printed in the British Medical Journal, were that “The association between exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and coronary heart disease and lung cancer may be considerably weaker than generally believed.”
Why doesn’t the rabbi touch his girlfriend? Is he a freak? No. He’s just an authentic Orthodox Jew. All Jews are expected by Jewish law to not touch the opposite sex (except for spouse and family). Most Orthodox Jews observe this publicly though some Modern Orthodox Jews don’t worry about it. I saw a Modern Orthodox congregational rabbi walking hand in hand with his GF the other day. This is rare in my community. An Orthodox rabbi who hugs women is a shanda (scandal).
Chaim Amalek emails: “In New York this increasingly extreme mindset (things were very different among the orthodox fifty years ago) has led to attempts to impose gender separation on public bus lines and even sidewalks in parts of Brooklyn. Modest or not, what is the impact of gender separation on men and women? My experience as a one-time hebrew school student was that the greater the degree of gender separation, the lower the ability of the males to interact with the broader world. Which, in the end, may be the true goal of the orthodox rabbinate now pushing for it. Luke, can you get around this in your AT practice by wearing rubber gloves while working on female clients?”
I can get around it because I’m a pro. Doctors aren’t expected to observe this law. Nor are chiropractors and other professionals.
Robert emails: Please Reb Luke, do us all a favor and call/write that Modern Orthodox Rabbi with the following.
“Dear Rabbi Chaim Yankel, amv’sh
I witnessed you walking hand-in-hand with your darling girlfriend
Rochel Leah last Tuesday at 3pm in front of the bagel shop.
Please either admit that it’s a test you (and many others) sometimes
fail, or explain why it’s permissible. If the former, so be it, I
understand, and your secret is safe with me. If the latter, please
come out and explain and you will have thousands of new followers and
perhaps orthodox singles will finally be seen as respectable adults
rather than as pathetic (no negiah), transgressive (negiah with a
partner) or disgusting (negiah without a partner).”
That’s the idea – please call or e-mail him directly, make it clear
that you are not threatening or blackmailing him, and see how he
explains himself after having been “busted” by you. He might just say
“no way, mate, I’m denying everything for the record” and leave things
as they are, with just your existing blog entry about an anonymous
rabbi for whom orthodox dating isn’t humiliating and frustrating.
Heck, maybe they’ve already eloped and were doing nothing wrong other than the faux pas of Public Display of Affection and Public Display of Niddah Status when your Wife is not Obviously Pregnant.
I discuss the weekly Torah portion with Rabbi Rabbs Mondays at 7:00 pm PST on the Rabbi Rabbs cam and on YouTube. Facebook Fan Page.
This week we study Parashat Vayera (Genesis 18:1-22:24).
Why do these sex harassment charges, if true, sink Herman Cain’s presidency?
What if a candidate dishonored his parents? Or stole computer software? Why is that not a big deal but sex harassment a big deal?
I think I know why — because America is a largely Protestant country. Protestantism is a religion of the heart (faith saves, not work) and is appalled at the natural passions such as sex outside of marriage.
Judaism is all works. Judaism and Jews consequently have a relaxed attitude about the dirty nature of the heart and of the natural passions. Judaism and Jews understand that virtually all healthy men lust for sex outside of marriage. If they act on it, it is a sin, but not necessarily more of a sin than eating non-kosher food or stealing software or dishonoring parents.
For Protestants and those influenced by the Protestant ethic, these sex harassment charges against Herman Cain are a big deal. For an Orthodox Jew trying to decide who to vote for, these charges don’t matter much.
Another natural passion that Jews are more relaxed about is the desire for honor. Jews accept that the natural man wants to be honored. Wants to feel like a big shot. And there’s nothing necessarily wrong with this desire. It is all about how you express it.
Protestants tend to be much more humble.
What is primary in Christianity — humility, chastity, faith, love, etc — is secondary in Judaism. What is primary in Judaism — obeying the laws of the religion — is secondary in Protestant Christianity.
These sexual harassment allegations suddenly got specific. A real woman went public with real details.
This will sink Herman Cain’s candidacy.
So who’s left? What’s the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney?
It seems like Newt Gingrich is the one conservative left standing.
On his show today, Dennis Prager said: “These are areas I don’t want to know about candidates. If God could forgive King David, who not only committed adultery and had the husband killed to get the wife… If God could keep King David as a king. These are complex areas we have rendered simple.”
“This press conference did not do Mr. Cain any good. Her description is embarrassing. Did this woman make the whole thing up? It’s hard to imagine she’s lying.”
“Between attending the Jew-hating, America-hating Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s racist church for years and this… It is mind boggling to me what the press considers a big deal.”
“If Cain weakened on a few occasions and did nothing, no coercion… Keep perspective.”
