Neil Strauss has some more compelling episodes on his blog about how to meet women. In episode six, there’s a contest to start up as many conversations as possible in 30 seconds, get strangers to give you money, and to lure a girl into a dark alley:

The number one rule to meeting women is: Have something better to do with your life than meeting women.

I remember meeting a guy who worked for Playboy, and he was always hitting on the models. He usually did this by asking what they were doing that weekend, and then inviting himself along.

This strategy rarely worked, because he was always trying to glom on to their fun.

Instead, you want to be the source of their fun. Everyone feels like they could be doing something more interesting with their lives – that there’s something bigger and better out there. And, no matter how old you are or what your financial state may be, you can be that bigger, better something.

And here’s the quickest route to that: being in the know.

So your mission this week is to:

1. Print out two copies of the Stylelife Challenge Calendar below:

2. Pick up a copy of a local events guide. This can be a free weekly newspaper; a magazine-style going-out guide; or a daily paper. You may also want to grab a local Zagat guide to restaurants or nightlife, or even a travel guidebook that includes local attractions. If you’re short on cash, just go to a bookstore and leaf through them there, so you don’t have to buy them.

3. Sit somewhere comfortable, pull out your Stylelife Challenge calendar pages, and look through the listings, reviews, and recommendations in the paper or reference material you picked up.

4. Select an interesting event, restaurant, concert, gallery opening, reading, flea market, or other activity for each day of the week for this week and net. Write the information for each event in the left-hand column of the calendar pages. The simpler and cheaper the activity, the better. Free is good too. Make sure it’s something you are able to attend—not a concert that’s sold out, or a restaurant that’s out of your price range.

5. In the larger column on the right side of the calendar, write one or two compelling sentences convincing someone why they should go to each event.

Now what?

Well, for next week’s mission, you’re going to learn perhaps the most rejection-free way to get a phone number and set up a date. I think you already have an idea how. In the meantime, if you want to get an early start, here’s a hint: try seeding.

In order to seed, mention a tempting event but do not immediately invite the woman to attend. For example, casually mention a party you’re going to, talk about how cool it’s going to be, and then move on to other topics. Then, later in the interaction, before you’re about to leave, decide to invite her to come along.

If you’re out there approaching this week, try to set up a date to one of the events in your Stylelife calendar by seeding. And next week you’ll learn the most effective way to successfully exchange phone numbers. The secret: don’t ask.

And, no, it doesn’t involve being forceful or stealing her phone or hiring a private investigator or the use of a tracking device.
