Kinky treats await in Disneyland’s Dream Suite

TabloidBaby reports:

Disneyland is revealing the secrets of Walt Disney’s "Dream Suite," the fancy hotel apartment they’re building above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in the middle of Disneyland. With a Jungle Room bedroom, Fantasyland bathroom, and buttons on the walls to push when you’re "ready to go to bed, and something special will happen," the park’s new prize promises to be kinkier than even we’d imagined.

The suite, which Walt Disney envisioned as a place for entertaining, is still under construction in New Orleans Square but Disney this morning launched a sweepstakes that would give one lucky winner the chance to spend the night in the secluded suite– which sounds like a lot of fun to us if you were given access to the rides and shows, underground tunnels and Club 33 (the members-only restaurant and only place in the park that serves alcohol). But from what we can gather, you’d be stuck in your Fantasy bathtub around the corner from Tarzan’s Treehouse with no one out there but a valet or two and the park’s maintenance people and security.

Here’s what they’re telling season passholders:

As the Year of a Million Dreams continues, the surprises keep coming. And nothing could be more surprising than the latest "dream come true" — because the dreamer was Walt Disney himself! Walt had originally intended to use the space in Disneyland Park above Pirates of the Caribbean for a private apartment where he could entertain friends and VIPs. Detailed watercolor sketches created in the ’60s showed a luxurious and elegant retreat, right in the heart of his beloved Park, but the suite was never completed. Now, dubbed ‘the Dream Suite,’ his apartment is being brought to life based on his original vision, with some very special surprises added. To see what awaits the lucky Guests who stay there, we talked to Kim Irvine, Walt Disney Imagineering Art Director on the Dream Suite project.

"Dorothea Redmond was an illustrator who had done some major pictures like ‘Gone with the Wind.’ She was asked by Walt to do most of the interior designs for the shops and restaurants in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. She had a really beautiful watercolor style — kind of impressionistic, but all the detail was there. So he asked her to illustrate each room of his suite," she explains…

Kim was well-prepared for the project: "I’ve been looking at the sketches for years now, because the place where the suite is being built is where the Disney Gallery used to be for years. A lot of the Disney fans knew that at one time that was going to be Walt’s apartment, so we posted copies of the paintings up there so they could see what it would have looked like. The Imagineers got so far with the construction up there — they put in the fireplace mantel and some of the decorative crown moldings, and the parquet floor that she has very clearly illustrated in her paintings — and then they stopped. So it was very interesting to look at the paintings and say ‘Oh, I can see that!’ and imagine what it would have looked like if they had been able to finish it. So our idea was to finish the suite, and get it as close as we could to the illustrations — so that we’re actually making Walt’s dream come true, too!"

Although she’d been looking at Dorothea’s watercolors for years, it was only when Kim began work on making the suite a reality that she realized there was a hidden theme to the renderings. "We noticed that each room has a little bit of a different style to it, although they blend together beautifully. And the styles actually mimic the Lands at Disneyland. I had never recognized it before after all those years of seeing the renderings, but once I really studied them I saw this pattern. We decided to take that storyline and go with it. It’s very subtle — it doesn’t hit you in the face that each room has a Land theme — but it is there."

The main sitting room of the suite is very New Orleans, decorated in French blue and mauve, and featuring a room divider with New Orleans scenes. The informal sitting room captures the spirit of Frontierland, with masculine colors and a Franklin stove. The little study is very Main Street — Victorian with red-and-white striped wallpaper that recalls the good old days. On the other side of the suite, the main bedroom backs right up to Adventureland — you can actually hear the animals from the Jungle Cruise when you’re in that room. It has that exotic Victorian look that was popular in that era — cane seating, leafy fabric, greens, and blues. Although the bathroom was not included in the original paintings, Kim and her team decided to extend the "land" theme there — with spectacular results.

"One of the things I think the Guests will say is their favorite is the master bathtub," Kim smiles. "The master bathroom was never rendered by Dorothea — we did it as our kind of nod to Fantasyland. There’s a big sunken tub, surrounded by arches filled with glass mosaic showing Aurora standing by a pool of water. Within the stained glass tiles are fiber-optic stars. When you go in and push the button the lighting in the room goes way down and the stars come on, music begins to play, and it’s a very elegant bathing experience!"

The luxurious surroundings aren’t all indoors. The suite also incorporates a courtyard patio invisible to Park Guests, and a redesigned balcony looking over Pirates of the Caribbean — a spot that becomes the best seat in the house for the nightly performance of the spectacular Fantasmic!

The suite is meticulously detailed to match the vision Walt and Dorothea expressed — but there are some very contemporary touches tucked inside. "It’s ADA-accessible. It has hookups for computers. It has great systems for audio and video." Dorothea reassures us that "it’s incorporated very well into the surroundings — there’s no elegant room with a bigscreen TV in the middle of it!"

Guests will also have the services of a personal round-the-clock concierge, ensconced in a separate suite across the hall. Lastly, there are what the Imagineers are calling "special moments" to surprise and delight Guests. "I think that being in Disneyland, people expect something magical to happen to them — a step further than being in a beautiful, elegant hotel room, but also that there were some special moments," explains Kim. "So we included these in all three main rooms, and we’re calling them ‘a kiss goodnight.’ There’s a button on the wall of each room that they push when they’re ready to go to bed, and something special will happen."

Disney.com’s Dreams Come True sweepstakes runs through February. Five lucky entrants will each win trips to the Disney Parks. The grand prize winner gets a stay in the completed Dream Suite. The link to the sweepstakes is here.

Dan Rather Speaks At USC – No Media Allowed

ERSNEWS reports:

Dan Rather, the former CBS News anchorman was in Los Angeles last night and again tonight. His program "Dan Rather Reports" on HDNet, the cable outlet owned by Mark Cuban, was in Southern California to cover the "Super Tuesday" presidential primaries. Rather’s program is set to broadcast from the campus of the University of Southern California, via an arrangement with the schools’ Annenberg School of Communications.

As a part of his visit to the university, an event Monday night called "A Conversation with Dan Rather" took place. Rather spoke with and took questions from USC students. ERS requested media access to the event but we were told by USC school press officials that the event was not open to the news media and that is was "student only." The event took place in an auditorium which seats in excess of 200 people. USC’s own on-campus newspaper the "Daily Trojan" and the schools on campus TV news operation "Annenberg News" were both allowed access to the event. The rest of the media were kept out.

When asked why the event was closed to the media, the only response given by USC press officials was this was a "student only" event. When asked if the closing of the event was at the request of Dan Rather or HDNet, a USC spokesperson told ERS News that it was the University’s decision. We were also told if Rather or HDNet made a request that news media be allowed to cover the event the University would certainly entertain those requests. ERS did so, but was denied access to the event.

ERS News sought comment from HDNet as to whether Rather or HDNet requested the event be closed to outside news media. A spokesperson for HDNet told ERS News that she was not familiar with the decision to bar media from covering the event. Since it was a USC event, ERS News was told we would have to talk to the school for a response to why news media were being barred from the event. One organizer and journalism professor at the school responded by email, "It’s meant to be a session with students…..and it’s overbooked at that. Why would you want to cover it?" The event was streamed live to the web via USC’s own web site.

Rather, is currently embroiled in a bitter 70-million dollar civil lawsuit against his former employer CBS News and others, including Viacom Chairman Summer Redstone, Les Moonves and former CBS News President Andrew Heyward. The lawsuit stems from the fallout of the story, done by Rather for the now defunct "60 Minutes II." Rather reported on the National Guard service of President Bush. The report, which utilized documents purported to be authentic, were later widely discredited and is widely credited with being the catalyst that cost Mr. Rather his job at CBS.

USC says:

Award-winning broadcast journalist Dan Rather will broadcast his HDNet program, Dan Rather Reports, live from the USC Annenberg East Lobby as primary results come in from around the country on "Super Tuesday" on Feb. 5. The program will welcome a live viewing audience.

As part of the program, journalism professor Judy Muller will host a focus group discussion among USC students, providing commentary from a demographic expected to have an impact in this year’s presidential race.

Money Man Tony Rezko And His TV Coverage

ERSNews reports:

The story is simple and it’s as old as politics itself.  Wealthy political donor pours cash into a campaign and to one or more candidates.  Said donor is then accused of buying influence, access and sometimes even breaking the law.

This is once again the case as the 2008 presidential campaign rolls on towards next November’s election.  The Democrats have whittled the field to two, Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton.  The Republicans seemingly have made their choice with John McCain.

One thing is clear; Rezko has been throwing his own money around the political game for a long time.  The money has been pouring into Illinois politics, national politics and politics far from his Chicago base.  It should make anyone wonder why he was giving money to politicians as far away as Los Angeles.  Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a democrat, as well as former Mayor James Hahn, both enjoyed the businessman’s political generosity.

The only reason anybody seems to care about Tony Rezko now is because of his connections to Senator Barak Obama and others politicians, including a photo op with Hillary Clinton and her then president husband Bill.  The picture seen below was all the rage on the national media scene when the Drudge Report posted it last week.

The problem with the TV news media coverage of Rezko is that while it’s true he and Senator Obama have had a relationship worthy of investigation going back many years, the rest of the story, as they say, has been ignored. The Rezko/Obama story has made its way to the national media in recent weeks.

The rest of the story is this: Rezko contributed to many politicians, on both sides of the aisle.  That’s what big political contributors do, they are usually not political ideologues, they are practical businessmen and they want their money to get them something in return.  To insure they have the access and influence that money brings with it, they hedge their bets and make sure they cover all the bases. In Rezko’s case, although the public has been well informed about Rezko’s contributions to Obama and his connections to Clinton and others in Illinois and elsewhere, the fact that he’s raised money for Republicans has mostly been lost in the media shuffle.  He’s even contributed to President Bush.  You wouldn’t know that if watched most of the TV news coverage.

Nothing in life has come easily for 16-year-old street dancer Andie West (Briana Evigan) – nothing, that is, except dance. After her mother died, she was taken in by her mother’s best friend, Sarah (Sonja Sohn), but for Andie, Sarah’s house is just one more place she doesn’t belong; her only real family is her dance crew, the 410, and her guardian angel from the neighborhood, Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum). After Andie skips school for the hundredth time to rehearse with the 410, Sarah tells her she’s had enough – she’s sending Andie to live with her aunt in Texas. But luckily for Andie, Tyler steps in and saves the day: he convinces Sarah to let Andie stay in Baltimore if she agrees to attend the Maryland School of the Arts. Now all Andie has to do is get in.

Once Andie lands at MSA, she finds herself fighting to fit in while also trying to hold onto her old life. Her school commitments quickly start taking up all her time, and after she misses one too many 410 rehearsals, her crew throws her out. But Andie refuses to give up; instead, she joins forces with the MSA’s hottest dancer Chase Collins (Robert Hoffman), and they recruit a crew of their classmates to compete in Baltimore’s underground dance battle, The Streets. Sparks fly between Andie and Chase, and she ultimately finds a way to live her dream while building a bridge between her two separate worlds.

La Brea Murder-Suicide Victims ID’d

From CBS:

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ? On Monday, authorities identified a husband and wife who died in an apparent murder-suicide in the Park La Brea area of Los Angeles.

Bruce and Terri Nadler, both 61, died on Saturday of gunshot wounds that authorities believe were inflicted by Bruce, said Craig Harvey of the coroner’s office.

Officers were sent to the 200 block of South Detroit Street on a "shots fired" call about 11:25 a.m. Saturday, and found the bodies in their home, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Homicide investigators believe they’ve also found the weapon used in the killings, but have not established a motive.

A source says: "Their family is Orthodox. Their kid is (I think he is black hat)… I know all the cousins and the wife’s (who was killed) brother is. I don’t know exactly how religious the husband and wife were – but definitely an overall Jewish family in the community. The funeral was today."

WSJ writes on Elitefitness: "He is a terrible doctor. Not board certified. Been on probation with the state of NY and lots of malpractice. I will post more on this soon. I personally would not let him operate on my dog."

Dr. Nadler liked to bill himself as "the world’s strongest plastic surgeon."

Here are some photos of Bruce Nadler.

It sounds like Dr. Nadler may have been into testosterone and steroids, which may have given him ‘roid rage.

Here’s an interview from a bodybuilder website called "Testosterone Nation":

The End of Genetic Limitations
An Interview With Dr. Bruce Nadler
By Garrison Kane

Bruce Nadler is one of a kind. Dr. Nadler (or "Nads," as he is affectionately known) is the premier bodybuilding "constructionist." Yeah, I just made that word up, but since the good doctor doesn’t fall into any traditional category, it seems as apt as any. You see, Nads’ background, prior to receiving his medical degree in 1971, was that of a competitive bodybuilder and a sculptor. This makes him, unlike most plastic surgeons, supremely suited towards understanding what the ideal muscular body should and could look like.

I met up with Dr. Nadler at his Park Avenue office in New York City. No one in his office bothered to give me a second look, but then again, why should they? This is a place frequented by some of the world’s best professional bodybuilders, a place where they travel to get those "finishing touches" that can make the difference between winning a big show or placing out of the money.

To some, the idea of cosmetic surgery may seem a little radical or, at the very least, unnatural. Yet, as Bruce puts it, "There’s nothing at all natural about bodybuilding." You gotta’ admit, lifting weights, taking supplements and/or drugs, eating every three hours, and even removing body hair is not exactly "nature’s plan." But the very essence of bodybuilding is to look extraordinary. This is where Bruce Nadler comes in. He is the next and newest step toward physical perfection.

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to wake up one day and find your genetic flaws erased, wonder no more. It’s now a reality. And Bruce Nadler is the man who can do it.

T: What was it that made you decide to specialize in surgical body sculpting for bodybuilders?

BN: I became interested in bodybuilding as a teenager, as many young men do, but what I really wanted was to be a sculptor. The weightlifting went from being an athletic endeavor to a more artistic pursuit. My mom told me that if being an artist was to be my profession, the only money I’d make would be after I’m dead! When I started studying medicine, it seemed like a natural progression to combine all of the talents, and that naturally led to plastic surgery. At the time, it was mostly reconstructive surgery, but little by little, the cosmetic applications started to capture the public’s imagination.

T: Do you still compete as a bodybuilder?

BN: I haven’t competed in a while because I can’t force myself to diet. But last year, I won the overall masters in the Tri States. The fact that I do compete helps me to have an understanding of what a bodybuilder would want, whereas they may go to someone else and the doctor will say, "I don’t see anything wrong." It’s a matter of knowing the degree of perfection that a bodybuilder would be looking for.

For instance, one of the more popular procedures that I do is "ab etching." The theory is to bring out the muscularity by removing the fat in between the muscles, which is different from ab sculpting where they leave blocks of fat to look like muscles. The problem with "sculpting" is that, as soon as you twist your body, it looks very unnatural. If you have some level of muscularity, I can "increase your inheritance," so to speak, by enhancing your natural genetic potential. This procedure can be used anywhere on the body. I can give you more separation in the deltoids, cleaner lines in the biceps. Anything. And that’s something a typical plastic surgeon may not do.

T: Speaking of going past one’s genetic potential, I understand that you will prescribe steroid therapy to someone who is eligible for testosterone replacement?

BN: I’m my own test laboratory in that respect because, in the last two years, I’ve been taking 6 to 8 IUs a week of growth hormone, and I alternate between 200 mg a week of deca and 200 mg of testosterone cypionate the next week. Instead of going super physiological, I believe in just going to maximum natural levels to that of a man in his twenties. In this way, there are no side effects.

T: Would staying on exogenous GH, non-stop, lower endogenous levels of GH?

BN: Probably, but I compare it to being a diabetic. You just accept it as a lifestyle. The same thing applies to testosterone therapy. If you need it, you just stay on it. I’ll be 52 years old this month, and I noticed at about age 45 a certain decline in strength. I also started gaining fat more easily. I hadn’t done steroids before that point, but since I started using them in the past two years, I’ve put on about 25 pounds of mass. My body fat stays at about 9% even though I don’t watch my diet at all, unlike in the past when, no matter how well I ate, I would still get fat. I also heal more quickly from injuries.

T: Why do you think that there is still such a hysteria concerning steroids in this country?

BN: I’ve always felt that politicians always have to make the majority of the electorate think that they’re doing something?so they inconvenience a small, unimportant group, like bodybuilders. They have no idea what they’re talking about. Somebody hands them a speech, and they go! They took something that could have been done safely and sent it to the black market and all of the inherent dangers that go along with dealing with that element. Will they ever be legal again? I hope so.

T: We’re working on it! Maybe it can slip through in the life extension field.

BN: Well, life extension, or "youth extension," is getting very popular, and more and more drugs are becoming readily available.

T: What do you think of the current crop of natural growth hormone releasers?

BN: Major drug companies have a lot of money invested in the research of these things, and it looks as if the GH secretagogues are of very little value. Some are known to show elevation, but it’s negligible. Even then, there is a receptor shutdown after about two months.

T: I’m surprised that they worked at all.

BN: It’s very hit and miss. The spike is also too short in duration to make any difference. As far as the sublingual sprays, some of them do contain real growth hormone, but it’s one four-hundredth of an IU! I’d like to see some blood tests that show any elevation from that!

T: What is the price for a month’s supply of GH?

BN: I make arrangements with the pharmacies to sell the GH to patients for exactly the price that I would pay for it?about ten dollars an IU.

T: That’s a pretty good price! I get the feeling that you are going to get a lot of calls once this article is published.

BN: When the Japanese version comes out, it will be even cheaper. I believe that within a few years, GH replacement will be as commonplace as cough medicine. I should add that this is not recommended for young people. If you already have a high level and take in additional GH, it isn’t of much benefit, and that’s when you get all of the side effects, like acromegaly. You also run the risk of diabetes and accelerated tumor growth. Remember, you’re not going to look good just by what you inject or swallow. You have to work out, eat right, and supplement.

Some people think that we’re fooling with nature, but I feel that growing old is a disease process and should be fought. Nature has no need for you after you pass the age of procreation. We are here to proliferate the species?no other reason. So when you can no longer reproduce, you have to be killed off to make room for the next generation. That’s why it starts to decline so rapidly after 40. But I want to go down kicking and screaming. It’s a philosophy.

T: What are your thoughts on steroid use by younger men?

BN: If they are cycled just to get an occasional "boost," it can be done safely. There are good steroids and bad steroids. I should state that, in order for me to prescribe steroids, the patient must prove to be hypogonadal. I don’t prescribe any oral steroids. I mostly recommend deca.

T: And the brand available at pharmacies is Steris?

BN: Steris has closed down!

T: Oh, no!!!

BN: Yeah, now it’s only Organon…at three times the cost.

T: Have you had any surgery done on yourself?

BN: Yes, I had liposuction. I started getting jealous of my patients! There was that last bit of fat lapping over my belt that just wouldn’t go away, so I had it done, and it hasn’t been back. Liposuction is the only real spot reducer. I haven’t had work done on my face, but when the time comes, I’ll probably get a lift.

T: What is your most common surgical procedure?

BN: I think that I’ve set a record for doing more gynocomastia surgery than anyone else. Over 700 cases! Breast implants would have to be second.

T: I knew a woman who had perfect C-cup breasts, and she had them enlarged to the point where they looked like Tupperware bowls. Would you ever dissuade someone from having cosmetic surgery?

BN: It’s important to have long talks with the patient and know what they really want. I get some bizarre requests. You learn not to make judgements. I write for a trade magazine for strippers [Extreme], and I can tell you that some of those women know that the bigger the breasts, the more in demand they become. They make money by looking freaky.

T: I guess that, like beauty, deformity is in the eye of the beholder.

BN: Absolutely. And as far as turning people away, yes. For example, I won’t do lipo on fat people. I’d recommend that they first clean up their diet and start an exercise program. Then, when I do the work, it will look better and the fat won’t come back. It’s also better to work on the problem before it gets too bad. I always say that the best compliment is when someone sees a patient of mine and thinks that they look great, but they don’t know why. The best job is one that isn’t too obvious.

T: I understand that you have a new procedure for calf implants?

BN: Yes, I use a soft solid silastic implant (the texture of muscle) that can be shaped any way you want. Round, diamond…it can’t break or leak. It’s slipped into the fascial compartment over the heads of the gastrocnemius, so it stays within the muscle confines. Most implants being used, like the ones that Lou Ferrigno had to have removed, are just placed under the skin. Calf size is determined genetically by the length of the tendons. If you have short tendons, then all you have to do is walk, and your calves will grow.

I use a similar technique with the pec implant. It’s inserted between the pec major and the pec minor. It pushes the pec forward so that, when you flex, what shows is your own muscle. You also don’t get that lower pec droop found in other pec implants.

T: Could pec implants affect flexibility?

BN: They shouldn’t. If a surgeon doesn’t know what a perfect pec should look like, the results can be a disaster. I just worked on a professional baseball player who was born without a pectoral muscle. He is now doing commercials without his shirt on.

T: What are the prices for the other various procedures?

BN: The total cost of most liposuction, including office visits, anesthesia, everything, is about $5,100. Implants can cost $5,000-$7,000.

T: I guess I’m stuck with my skinny calves after all. Any new techniques on the horizon?

BN: There are new things all of the time. Some things, like ultrasonic liposuction, I’m not a big proponent of. Lasers should be used only by laser specialists. Sometimes people fall so in love with technology that they feel a need to use it in spite of its effectiveness.

I think that, in the future, there will be doctors who are "enhancement specialists." They will deal with all aspects of youth extension, performance enhancement, and body alteration. It will include all forms of surgery, drugs, and hormone therapy.

T: Doc, it sounds as if you’re doing some of that fascinating work already. You look incredible, especially for someone your age.

BN: I feel like a man twenty years younger.

T: One last hypothetical question. What do you think would happen if you stopped taking the GH, testosterone, and deca durabolin?

BN: [Thinks for a moment] Well, I guess I’d turn into an old man!

In 1959, a story by Charles Beaumont entitled "Number 12 Looks Just like You" (later made into an episode of "The Twilight Zone") spoke of a futuristic society that eliminated many of the world’s woes by putting people through a "transformation" that would make them young and beautiful. Today, we’re getting close to living in that brave new world.

I think it’s fair to say that most people would choose to be as attractive as possible. Like anything else, cosmetic enhancement can be taken too far (e.g. Michael Jackson). It’s not meant to be a cure-all. But it’s an option; in some cases, the only option.

After talking to Dr. Nadler, I felt much more at ease about surgery as a method of improving one’s appearance. The idea of steroid and GH therapy also sounds enticing. I think it’s safe to assume that I may be making another call on the doctor, soon. Very soon.

Name:  Bruce Nadler, M.D.

Birthday: 1/29/1947

Location: New York

Q: Tell us how you got to where you are now.

A: After practicing plastic surgery for 28 years, I retired and started a person training business, Nip Tuck Fitness NYC.

Q: Define and discuss failure.

A: Failure is the inability to see alternative answers to your problems.

Q: Is there anything about yourself that you’ve changed your mind about in the last 20 years?

A: I thought I couldn’t find something that would give me the same satisfaction as performing plastic surgery.  Becoming a personal trainer has changed that.  I can use the experience and knowledge I possess to maximize my new endeavor.

Q: What’s the next major item on your "to-do" list?

A: The next major item is to start work on my next book called “Operation Boomerang, Returning Baby Boomers to Fitness.”  It will deal with safe and effective methods for Baby Boomers to achieve the benefits of exercise.  Being a Baby Boomer myself, give additional insight into the project.

Q: Define individual responsibility and how you react to adverse situations.

A: Individual responsibility is opting out from our current society of victims.  Too many people claim the results of their own stupidity are caused by others.  Then they try to sue them.

Adverse situations are challenges.  I had rheumatic fever as a child and then another heart infection during my surgical residency.  Instead of accepting a compromised life style, I refused to be limited just because I have two damaged heart valves.  I learned to compensate and do any activity I want.

Q: When do you have time to think about your mistakes, mishaps, achievements, and minor victories; in other words, do you have any reflective time for yourself of your career?

A: These are all lessons that should teach rather than be ignored.  I certainly have had my share of each of the categories.  They constantly hover in the background to provide a measure to evaluate any potentially new activity.

Q: What is your most influential story, fiction or nonfiction, from a film, book, magazine, newspaper or parable? Explain its impact on your life? What’s you’re favorite saying?

A: The most influential writing in my life is the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley.

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate;

I am the captain of my soul.

This poem sums up my feelings about adversity.

Q: Was there a defining moment in your life when you made a decision that changed the course of the rest of your life forever?

A: Marrying my wife Terri gave the perfect complement to my personality.  I found an equal who made me much more than I could have been alone.

Q: What’s the most bodacious chance you’ve ever taken?

A: Life has been a series of chances.  Every time I refused to be compromised, I took a big chance.  When I decided, as a plastic surgeon, to concentrate on surgery for the physically fit, I was told there was no market.  I proved that wrong.  When I announced my retirement to pursue personal training, I was also told I wouldn’t be happy.  Time will tell.

Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about yourself? What’s the biggest lesson you haven’t learned?

A: The most important quality to be successful is to able to bounce back from adversity.  Try to have a life boat, a “Plan B,” in mind just in case.

I haven’t learned how to be in two places at the same time.

Q: What keeps you going (your motivation)?

A: My motivation is to push to envelop as far as I can.  There are four main principles that motivate a person, fear, pleasure, pain and recognition.  One must learn to conquer or ignore fear.  One must learn to avoid endure pain.  One must not be satisfied with pleasure alone.  Accomplish these feats and recognition will come.

Q: On those days when you’re not motivated to work out, but you know you have to, what’s the one thought that gets you going?

A: I have an image to maintain.

Q: If you had to choose a specific song or band to get you psyched for your workout, what would it be?

A: Metallica

Q: If you could eat one forbidden food whenever you wanted without gaining weight, what would it be?

A: That would be a toss-up between dark chocolate and blue cheese.

Q: What dessert do you dream about?

A: A dark chocolate soufflé with fresh whipped cream.

Q: If there were one healthy food item (something you love) that you had to eat every day, what would it be?

A: Low fat, low carbohydrate chocolate brownies.

Q: What is the one food or meal you always eat before an event? What about before training?

A: A hydrolyzed whey protein/ carbohydrate shake.

Q: What’s the best book about health that you’ve read?

A: My book “The Nip Tuck Workout.”

Q: What are your two favorite health magazines?

The Journal of the ACSM and the internet magazine T-Nation.

Q: What do you consider the world’s most perfect food? Please be specific and try not to answer with a category but rather with a specific food item: for example, not “whole grain” but “raisin bran cereal”?

A: Plain Yogurt

Q: Do you have any sports superstitions or rituals?

No

Q: How do you take total control of your mind and body to achieve the focus you need during pivotal sports moments?

A: Zen Meditation.  I’ve spent 15 years involved in martial arts.  It’s given me the ability to hyper-focus.

Q: What do you think is the best training location in the world?

A: La Jolla, California

Q: What do you do to reduce stress/relax/center your mind? Do you participate in an organized relaxation activity such as yoga, meditation or tai chi?

A: Total concentration on the mind-body-breathing connection during weight training serves as a moving meditation.

Q: Are there healthy restaurants that you enjoy and would recommend?

A: Josephina’s Restaurant in Manhattan.

Is Conservatism Dead?

From Dennis Prager:

David Frum is not for John McCain because he fears that McCain believes in what he says. Frum is not for Mitt Romney because he fears that Romney does not believe in what he says.

H1: Super Tuesday Looms With Dennis Prager
Prager H1: Dennis reiterates his position that you should vote for the person who you believe would make the best president… Is it fair to Mitt Romney that Mike Huckabee has remained in the race?.. In Iraq, Al Qaeda uses women with Down’s Syndrome to blow up more innocents… How much of this will Iraqis stand for? Dennis talks to John McIntyre, president and co-founder of Real Clear Politics, a premiere political web site.

H3: Is Conservatism Dead? With Dennis Prager
Prager H3: Dennis talks to David Frum, fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, columnist for the National Review and a former special assistant and speech writer to President George W. Bush. His latest book is Comeback: Conservatism That Can Win Again.

   Length: 00:33:56

Friday February 1, 2008
Prager H1: Dennis advises his listeners to vote for the candidate who they think will make the best president. To do anything else is vote tactically. To vote tactically is to think you can predict the future. You can’t…. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama went toe to toe last night. It was more like cheek to cheek, but this didn’t stop them for making some shocking anti-free market, we-surrender statements. Obama is the Senate’s most liberal member. Quite a distinction. And good ammo.

H3: Open Lines With Dennis Prager
Prager H3: Dennis begins by reviewing his position on who you should vote for on Tuesday and plays a montage of last night’s debate that highlights Clinton and Obama’s government-should-control-the-economy ideas… Dennis then continues with open line questions. Issues raised include: is it moral to work in a slaughterhouse; is it racist to fly the Confederate flag; is the country ready to vote for a black American for president; should a school decorate for the Super Bowl, but not Christmas and Thanksgiving.

She’s Doing It Again! (Crying And Even More Of Those Wonderfully New Age Code Words)

From the Macho Response:

"Sen. Hillary Clinton teared up this morning at an event at the Yale Child Study Center, where she worked while in law school in the early 1970s.

Penn Rhodeen, who was introducing Clinton, began to choke up, leading Clinton’s eyes to fill with tears, which she wiped out of her left eye. At the time, Rhodeen was saying how proud he was that the sheepskin-coat, bell-bottom-wearing young woman he met in 1972 was now running for president.

"Well, I said I would not tear up; already we’re not exactly on the path," Clinton said with emotion after the introduction.

Clinton is holding a roundtable discussion with Connecticut women to talk about childcare and healthcare.

When Clinton got misty-eyed at an event in New Hampshire on Jan. 7, politicos and pundits filled hours discussing if it helped her, and Clinton eventually pointed to the moment as when she "found her voice" and turned the corner in the Granite State.

At the time, there was much debate if the candidate’s emotional response to a question — "How do you do it?"" — was genuine or calculated.

Let the conversation begin again…"

– Jason George, writing in The Swamp

A president who cries, regularly, just doesn’t cut it.

And we’ve got appeals to a "NewAge" and our "spirit" and, now, "on the path" is part of her vocabulary? Wrong, wrong, wrong. Let me guess:

Bill Clinton is also her "soul mate", and the "love of her life", right?

Shit, the limiting of vocabulary is one of the sure signs of cult indoctrination. (And the fact so many people – who am I kidding: women – are regularly showing "uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms" just goes to show how far cultish thinking has infiltrated society. Not "everyone says those things" – because they don’t – most people are "individuals", and their conversation reflects that. Only people in the cult/self-help/NewAge matrix are repeating these specific phrases.) Only people who are open to the cult’s viral ideas fall victim to language restructuring through the use of code words.

Hillary Clinton is a NewAge cultist – and a weepy one at that.

How To Get A Woman’s Phone Number

Neil Strauss writes on MySpace:

Asking for a phone number can be one of the most difficult parts of an interaction with a woman you’ve just met. If she declines to give you her number, or instead asks for yours because she claims she doesn’t give her phone number to guys, then all your previous efforts to build a connection with her have been in vain.

Even if she likes you, she may still refuse to give you her phone number the first time you ask. This is what’s called an automatic or autopilot response: After experiencing repeated clumsy pickup attempts, many women have lines they use, almost by instinct, to politely decline requests for their phone number.

So what’s the solution?

Don’t ask for the phone number at all.

The first key to this is seeding, a technique in which you mention a tempting event but do not immediately invite the woman to attend. This is where your Stylelife Calendar you filled out is going to come in handy. Now that you have a list of interesting events, choose one to mention that will interest her. For example, casually mention a new lounge or restaurant or party you’re going to, talk about how cool it’s going to be, and then move on to other topics. Then, later in the interaction, before you’re about to leave, decide to invite her to come along.

Seeding helps to increase the odds of her saying yes, by avoiding the kind of pressure she might feel when confronted with a sudden invitation—pressure that often triggers a negative autopilot response. Mentioning the Calendar event, and then giving her time to think about whether she wants to go before you get around to inviting her, gives her a chance to come to an affirmative decision on her own. Especially if you’ve continued to display more great personality, value, and non-neediness along the way. In addition, not inviting her when you first mention the event will only increase her desire to go.

Having a pretext for getting together again, and a plan set in stone, also drastically reduces the chances that she’ll flake out. Even if she’s not sure about you yet, she’s more likely to come along anyway, just for the experience. Tagging along with a small group of interesting people to experience the best sushi in the world, or check out the funniest comedian who ever lived, or go to the coolest dive bar in town, is a lot more tempting than just "going for coffee" or "getting together to talk sometime," which is how many guys ask women out. And compared to an actual date, in which she’s trapped all night with a stranger with high expectations, your low-pressure event is a much more appealing option.
