I’m Shocked By Yasiel Puig’s Lax Work Ethic

Hmm. Didn’t his parents and relatives teach him better?

Mark Saxon writes: LOS ANGELES — Yasiel Puig spent at least 30 minutes visiting with friends in the stands while the rest of his teammates were either taking batting practice, fielding ground balls or shagging fly balls before the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 6-3 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

When Puig’s batting practice turn came up, he got to the cage in time to see Hanley Ramirez launch a ball over the left-field bleachers, off the metal roof and out of the stadium. How the Dodgers would love for one of those shots to come in an actual game.

Puig is often the last player to arrive in the Dodgers’ clubhouse and he is rarely seen on the field for early batting practice. Nobody, least of all manager Don Mattingly, seems to be willing to make it an issue, at least not publicly.

Atlanta – Good City For Blacks

Steve Sailer writes: The sad thing is that the Atlanta area, which attracts numerous educated blacks, is about as good as it gets for black-white equality in 21st-century America. In contrast to Detroit or Washington, D.C., where black mayors often acted out of sheer racist spite, Atlanta’s black political leadership has traditionally been willing to cut deals with the area’s white corporate bosses that benefit both races. (In general, blacks seem to do better in red states like Georgia.)

If I were a black college graduate and wanted my children to grow up around the offspring of other black college graduates, I’d seriously consider moving to Atlanta. The region attracts educated blacks because the Greater Atlanta area is an airline hub with many big corporations. The local economy isn’t particularly entrepreneurial; but then African-Americans aren’t very entrepreneurial. They tend to do best in large, already well-organized institutions such as the U.S. Army or the Coca-Cola Corporation.

Sigh

Must be great having a beautiful woman who loves you so much you can knock her out cold in a public place and she will still marry you and defend you in public.

I don’t see why white people have to punish a man for doing what is normal in his culture. His wife doesn’t hold it against him. Sure, he could have killed her, but that’s the life they chose.

How Much Should We Fear Iran?

On the one hand, I think, what do we Jews get out of hyping the Iranian nuclear threat? Iran has not invaded a country or started a war in more than 200 years and has a much smaller military budget and capability than Israel. So what do the Jews get out of making this most important news story? I don’t understand.

On the other hand, the premise of my question is that it is irrational for Israel to fear a nuclear armed Iran. In fact, Iran’s supreme leaders have explicitly called for Israel’s physical obliteration, and have mused that nukes are a handy way to effect it. Not irrational fear at all.

I think we have something to worry about. I know, I know, Jews worry about all kinds of crazy stuff. But this is not crazy.

I don’t take Iran with the same seriousness as I would Nazi Germany or some other high IQ nation. Iran is filled with low-IQ incompetent Muslims not fearsome Huns and Nips.

If Iran wanted to do damage, they’d have a bigger defense budget and a more competent nuclear team.

Iran is building a missile capability that may be impressive. And she may be building a deep nuclear capability as well.

If Iran nukes Israel, the survivors flee to LA by the million or so and drive out the Mexicans.

As an American, I don’t fear Iran. As a Jew, I have concern but I believe that Israel can kick Iran’s butt whenever it needs to, without American help.

Another view: “They are worried about the escalation that will take place on the Sunni side if Persia gets the bomb. But yeah, it seems like there are much better ways to negotiate this. For instance, Neocons wanted to side with the “moderate” (pffft) Sunni rebels to oust Assad, when the Alawites aren’t even Muslim. Total stupidity. Slowly the world has realized this is a very bad idea thanks to the ISIS spectacle, and the all-too-slow realization that there are no moderate Sunni Arab rebels.”

I Can’t Stop Smiling

About four months ago, I spent $600 for the Fisher Wallace stimulator. It helps you fall asleep and it also reduces anxiety and depression. I love it and I also use it on various aching body parts. It’s FDA-approved.

Since I started using it, I’ve noticed that all the difficult people in my life became much easier to deal with. They in turn notice that I seem much happier and am at greater peace with myself. I feel less need to fight and to defend myself now that the machine is taking away much of my anxiety.

My Fierce Turn

If my blog has had a change in the attitude over the past three weeks, it might have something to do with Network Spinal Analysis (NSA). I don’t know much about NSA, I’ve simply been receiving it about twice a week, and I feel like it has helped me to rediscover my backbone.

On the other hand, I’m a serial enthusiast and should not be trusted in these matters. I’m on a constant search for a way out of my chronic fatigue and ill-health (which has plagued me since one day in February in 1988 when I woke up with what felt like mono and this has never seemed to leave me, I hate trudging through life feeling sick all the time).

Warren emails:

Luke,

Regarding your fatigue, do you think there’s any chance that it’s dysphoria (chronic, low-level depression) intermingled with anxiety?

Have you ever taken a dual action anti-depressant like Cymbala? It increases both Serotonin and Norepinephrine, and the increase in Norepinephrine should really give you a boost in energy. Cymbalta helps with both dysphoria and anxiety.

A generic version just went on the market, so it’s not even expensive anymore. It takes a few weeks of getting through some mild intermittent nausea, but after that you might feel great – like a new man. And it has much less chance of causing undesirable sexual side effects than other anti-depressants.

Just knock off all those “brain boosters” and any herbal stuff you’re taking – and ask your Doctor if you can resume those after you get adjusted to it.

The Differences Between Men And Women

Historian Martin Van Creveld (a Dutch Jew living in Israel) writes:

First, when Steven Pinker and many others say that the characteristics of people of both sexes are in large part biologically-determined rather than socially-constructed they were right. Second, when Margaret Mead said that in all known societies what men do is considered most important and that, should women enter a male field in any numbers, the
field in question will start losing both its prestige and the rewards it can offer she was right. Third, when Freud said that a great many women suffer from penis envy—whether biologically or socially based—he was right. After all, as I wrote in a previous essay posted on this website, what is modern feminism if not the greatest outburst of penis envy ever? Fourth, when Thomas Aquinas said that men can do anything women can (except for having children, of course) but not the other way around he was right. Fifth, when Plato said that, though no field of human endeavor is absolutely closed to the members of either sex, in all fields men are better on the average, he was right.

… First, women have less testosterone than men. That makes them less aggressive, less competitive, and less inclined towards dominance
than men. Second, their bodies are weaker, less able to absorb shocks and blows, and, unless properly taken care of, less resistant to dirt and infectious disease. Until urbanization started changing things from about 1800 on, the outcome was a considerably shorter life expectancy. Third, women conceive, become pregnant, give birth, nurse, and, as with all other mammalians, are mainly responsible for raising the young. Whereas men do not and are not. Fourth, since men are able to have countless offspring whereas women cannot, society is better able to bear their loss than that of women. The enormous investment women make in their offspring, plus their relative physical weakness, also explains why, as Diderot said, women are less able to find delight in the arms of strangers than men.
