LA TIMES: Six years after Rai first complained to police that state medical school exams were being leaked, the extent of the cheating scandal in Madhya Pradesh has become outrageously clear. Whistle-blowers say that over nearly a decade, tens of millions of dollars exchanged hands to rig the tests that help determine university slots and civil service jobs, allegedly with the complicity of senior politicians in one of India’s most populous states.
Colluding with the state examination board, known by the Hindi acronym Vyapam, rival test-fixing gangs helped at least 2,000 students con their way into coveted medical colleges and many more land police and other government posts, authorities say.
More than 1,800 people have been arrested — mostly suspected cheaters, middlemen and testing administrators — and hundreds more are on the run.
The scandal, colossal even by India’s notorious standards for graft, has grown more explosive in recent weeks with the sudden deaths of several people reportedly connected to the case.
Investigators said last month that 23 people named in the scandal had suffered “unnatural deaths” since 2009, most commonly in road accidents.

LAT: An 18-year-old Riverside man was arrested on suspicion of overturning two teenage girls’ lemonade stand and absconding with their pink and turquoise money box, authorities said Thursday.
Santini Tate walked up to the stand in Rancho Cucamonga about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and asked the two 13-year-old girls for some lemonade, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.
Even though he said he did not have cash, the girls gave Tate some lemonade, sheriff’s officials said, and he walked away.

LAT: As neighbors and friends tried to understand why a lone gunman launched two brazen attacks on military sites that left four Marines dead, investigators searched for terrorist ties but so far had found none, authorities said.
Knoxville FBI Special Agent in Charge Ed Reinhold told a late-night news conference that authorities had no leads linking the gunman to international terrorist organizations.
“There is no indication at this point that anyone else was involved,” he said late Thursday.

* It is ironic that everything Obama is doing is going to end up hurting the black community.
Letting black criminals go free, allowing them to get away with whatever they want in school and stripping away tools that the police use to lock up gang members.
Liberals think that the problem with the black community is that evil whites are being too harsh on them. When in reality the black community needs harsher rules to keep them in line. The reason that some black charter schools are successful is that they are run like little prisons. If you talk ghetto slang, they correct you. If you act out of line, you get kicked out.

Anyone who says this is lying.
This is like when a sports team owner publicly gives a their coach a “vote of confidence.” You can bet your bottom dollar that coach will be gone before the end of the season.
I’m also reminded of when baseball player Alex Rodriguez, then with the Texas Rangers, had a large contingency of the media wondering if he’d leave and go to the Yankees (or another big-market team, but the Yankees were always the big name on the list).
The Rangers then had this bizarre public ceremony where Rodriguez and the coach showed up to announce A-Roids as the captain–the Rangers manager (Buck Showalter) and the GM both appeared in tuxes! (this really happened).
Punch line: A-Rod was gone within a year.
So when Obama is claiming “I know what I am doing, and I’m fearless” you know 1) he has no idea what he’s doing; and 2) he’s very nervous and fearful. These kind of bizarre, oddly over the top statements/ceremonies are not just to assure the people watching, but also to assure the people in the ceremonies, that what is being said is true—because the opposite is true, and those involved are so fearful, they need to restore their own confidence by some public act. It’s as if they’re so afraid of/close to losing their grip, they think that repeating this mantra out loud in front of everyone will somehow change reality.
Shades of Bagdad Bob as well.
That Obama said this should make his supporters very, very nervous. And us nervous as well, as citizens under this yoke of a regime.
* Obama X is no longer holding black people the least bit responsible for their problems. That was just window dressing when he needed to get white votes, and he’s past that. No more Mr. Even-Handed Guy. From now on, it’s all the fault of the whites–every last bit of it.

Paul Ciotti: Fred Reed: “I don’t know anyone who wants to persecute the erotically baroque.” That stopped me. There isn’t anywhere in the mass media one would ever encounter a thought like that. Fred Reed is a former Marine, police reporter, hard drinking journalist, who is married to a Mexican woman, lives deep in Mexico, celebrates the Mexican people for their warmth and intelligence and from this perspective mourns what has happened to America. He’s smart and fearless. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks and no one can get him fired. To him political correctness is a mere dog fart. He hates the “sonsofbitches” in government and the media mindlessly running the country from each coast. It’s a joy to read such a brave and honest man.
When I was a lad ages ago, I thought well of Brown vs. the School board. Southerners said that integration would never work and they were right, but what came before was just wrong. I thought so then, and I think so now. I favored the civil-rights acts. I reluctantly favored affirmative action (I was very young) thinking it meant a hand up instead of an entitlement. I wrote hopefully of the prospect of educating blacks.
But look what happened. We now see forced hiring of the incompetent as a right, endless accounts of blacks destroying shopping malls, burning cities, brutally attacking whites in gangs, and the giving to blacks of anything they want because they are black. You don’t like the Confederate flag, Jesse? Why then, it must go. Whatever you say, Jesse.
It wasn’t this way, but it is now. It is getting worse. But there is far more than race. We now are compelled to live in a national sexual-freak show. Day after day after day the media are full of trans-this and trans-that, of homosexual marriages, all thrust in our faces, a parade of prancing peculiarities demanding and demanding and demanding. People who dare not say so are sick of it.
It isn’t viciousness. I don’t know anyone who wants to persecute the erotically baroque. Poofters in particular are usually bright, productive, decent people, and do not attack whites in wheel chairs with hammers. Yet I weary of their endless tedious concerns. I say, go. Go with God, but for God’s sake go. Or just shut up. That would do as well.
I, we, will be told, “But Fred, homosexuality is natural.” So is hemorrhagic tuberculosis. So is sadism. So is genocide.
Any sexual predilection can be called natural, and arguments can be made for all of them: Polygamy, or marriage with a sheep, or copulating on a public bus, or sex with girls of nine years. (How about, “Sex is natural. Children are erotic: Don’t they play doctor? Little girls are only afraid of it because of puritanical conditioning by society. Oral sex feels good, and adults do it, so why not…? Why shouldn’t her father gently teach her….” And so on.)
And crime is out of control, protected by a President and Attorney General with whom we, so many Americans, have nothing in common, who dislike us, and who want to disarm us and flood our country with illegal and incompatible aliens.
Do you think that wanting a gun is silly? Last week I started getting emails: “Chuck got shot.” On Breitbart I found that Chuck De Caro, a journalist and friend for so long that I forget how I met him, had checked into a motel in Albuquerque with his wife, whereupon an armed dirtbag tried to rob them and perhaps worse. I suppose that a white couple in their sixties must have seemed a soft target. Oops. It wasn’t a swell career move. Chuck is ex-Special Forces and a longtime war correspondent. Threatening his wife doesn’t fly well with him.
Anyway, Chuck apparently had other ideas about being robbed and perhaps killed. He also had a handgun. In the ensuing gunfight, he was hit several times and rushed to the hospital. Chuck will be okay, the dirtbag less so. He escaped to the parking lot, where he decided to lie down and bleed to death. A good choice. The news stories didn’t describe the perp, which meant….
This gem, Tomorio Walton, is, or was, a career criminal and was, of course, on parole. Can you guess why so many of us want guns and carry permits? Characteristically I had to find the photo in the Mail Online, an English paper.
Then there is the de-Christianizing of the country. Religion, both historically and currently, is a potent thing. Play with it at your risk. It is not always really a matter of religion. Many of us, I among them, are not believers but value Christmas and its traditions. But no. We must not have nativity scenes or sing Christmas carols on public streets. Easter-egg hunts are unconstitutional. Mommy Washington doesn’t like them, and we have to do what Washington says.
Unless, of course, one day we don’t.

Stoking the flames under the pressure cooker is the unending, ever-tightening control of every aspect of life by Washington. People inside the city’s beltway, a venue I know well, do not understand what they are playing with. They are sure that they know best, and they are going to make us toe the line.

I am naked. Chava, the mikveh lady, has said she’ll listen for me to enter the pool. The room contains a shower, sink, and toilet in an alcove. Think spa. In the shower, where I scrub myself clean according to directions on a laminated card, the soap smells of flowers and mint. Chava says she will enter the room only once I’m submerged. I wonder how she can know that only by listening.
Outside the blue door to the mikveh, in a small waiting room with pamphlets and a guestbook, sit Chava, three rabbis, and my husband. Alone in the mikveh, I descend the seven stairs into the pool. Let me rephrase that: I practically jump into the pool and loudly splash in my haste to submerge my nakedness as soon as possible. I’m unsure that this is the holy experience I’d been expecting as the conclusion of my conversion to Judaism.
