The Israeli Elections

All of my Jewish friends — with one exception — are happy that Bibi Netanyhau won.

I ask the exception: “Do you have any emotional reaction to any particular result in the Israeli elections?”

He replies:

No. The split is almost as old as the Balfour Declaration. The successors to Labor Zionism vs the successors to Betar. Of course now they have all sorts of fringe parties including ultra orthodox, Mizrahis and Arabs, but they just join whatever coalition promises them the most goodies and the real power resides with the Prime Minister and Defense Minister.

Like the Democrats and Republicans the parties seek to exaggerate their differences and advertise themselves as if it is a life or death decision as to which party to vote for.

However, you cut it, just like in the United States, no substantive policy seems to change regardless of who is elected. Any liberals who think that repudiation of Netanyahu will mean an end to settlements, and peace with the Palestinians is deluded. Any conservative who thinks that if Herzog becomes Prime Minister the country will subordinate itself to Iranian interests is also not thinking clearly. There may be some marginal differences on how much governmental assistance goes where for internal purposes, but not enough to make a difference.

The biggest difference will be that if Netanyahu retains power, his personal style, which has not only antagonized Obama, but much of Western European leaders, will continue to hamper Israel’s international diplomacy. Things would unfreeze a bit with a more liberal, more conciliatory figure. But I think everything would be substance and not form.

Likud has changed Israel’s economy from socialist to capitalist, with Bibi probably doing more than anyone in this regard. That’s a huge change. I can’t imagine any Israeli PM more conservative about using force than Bibi. He’s ultra cautious.

Friend:

I am not so sure that Netanyahu is responsible for this although he certainly claims the credit. The first non socialist prime minister was Begin. The next was Shamir. They started the ball rolling. What has helped Netanyahu is the tremendous growth of the high tech industry and startups in Israel. The country still is socialist in many ways with the histadrut still carrying a lot of clout.

That is the reason that the Obama administration leaked that they had called him “chickenshit.” You can see that he is bluster much more than action with regard to the invasion of Gaza. He promised the Israelis that he would destroy the Hamas military infrastructure. In fact he did not sent in troops to do this as a result of the fierce resistance by Hamas which led to many IDF soldiers in their elite units losing their lives. He instead went with the typical western nations drones, missiles, air strikes, artillery to level much of Gaza and either (according to the Palestinians) deliberately or (according to the Israelis,) as a result of collateral damage killing a lot of Palestinian non combatants. The best advice Teddy Roosevelt gave was to speak softly and carry a big stick. Now both U.S. Presidents (George W. Bush in particular) and Israeli Prime Ministers speak loudly, threaten and bluster, but do not follow through, preferring to act covertly and usually ineffectually. That incidentally is the reason Israelis responded better to Sharon and to Rabin. As ex generals, they were willing to take action. They never threatened unless they were willing to back up the threats.

So all the National Review columns calling Bibi the statesman of the Western World, a modern Churchill, leave you unmoved?

Friend:

I take very little that the NR writers say seriously. I think they are neo conservatives who conveniently have forgotten that much of the problems we are currently facing in the middle east are a direct result of policies they encouraged, especially the invasion of Iraq, with the consequence of (1) destroying an ancient Christian community, (2) creating a country ruled by Shia in alliance with Iran, instead of a counterweight to Iran and (3) forcing the ex Saddam supporters (Baathists, including the officer corps of the Iraqi army under Hussein) into an alliance with fundamentalist Sunnis now making up ISIS.

They push Netanyahu as a modern Churchill as a weapon against Obama. To see Netanyahu as Churchill means that you have to equate Israel to England before September of 1939 and Iran as Nazi Germany. Unlike England, Israel has nuclear weapons. Unlike Nazi Germany, Iran is one of the smaller economies in the world, based almost entirely on export of oil and pistachios.

Nazi Germany was engaged in a huge arms buildup and made clear its aggressive position vis a vis its neighbors to whom it felt racially superior. Ethnic Germans comprised a majority of Austrians, and a significant minority of Poles, Czechs, people within the Soviet Union, Hungary and Slovenia. There aren’t Persian outposts among the Iraqis and the Pakistanis (although there are small numbers among the Afghanis) Iraq does not have much of a functioning air force. It has acquired some modern air defense systems from Russia, but its jets are all at least a generation behind those that the Saudis can muster.

England did have a huge overseas empire in 1939 while Israel has the diaspora with disproportionate influence within the United States. When England stood alone after the fall of France in June of 1940, the Germans had control over all of Europe (including alliances with Hungary, Romania, Italy and Bulgaria) up to the dividing line between the Soviets and the Nazi’s in Poland. Only Sweden and Switzerland were neutral, and Spain and Portugal were neutral but sympathetic to the Nazis. As far as I know the Iranian’s allies close to Israel are Syria which is bogged down in a protracted and especially brutal and bloody civil war.

The only threat that Iran poses to Israel is that it might be able to acquire a nuclear weapon which would end the Israeli monopoly on them.

To accept that Netanyahu is Churchillian because of his concerns about this, is fantastical.

That doesn’t mean Iran is not a threat. It doesn’t mean that Israel doesn’t have concerns. But it does mean that the folks at NR are crazy as loons.

Chaim Amalek writes:

I say a thousand bucks per Jew to keep Israel going and to prevent four or five million Jews from flooding into the US is a good deal for the US.

What if Europe made the following deal: “For every ten Muslims who leave Europe, we will take in one Israeli Jew.”

Ashley Judd to press charges over vulgar tweets during Kentucky game

She sounds like the ADL and the SPLC and the SWC.

What exact charges will she be pressing and how?

REPORT: Actress Ashley Judd said she’s pressing charges against the cyberbullies who explicitly attacked her on social media over a tweet she posted during the SEC championship game Sunday between Kentucky and Arkansas.

“Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for what they write and not allowing this misinterpretation and shaming culture on social media to persist,” Judd said Monday on “MSNBC Live with Thomas Roberts.” “And by the way, I’m pressing charges.”

“If I were in a more calm state of mind, I might have phrased [it] differently,” Judd told Roberts. “I might have said, ‘I feel really disappointed with what seems [like] ultra-aggressive play.’ Instead, what I wrote [was], ‘I think Arkansas is playing dirty.'”

What followed, Judd said, was a slew of hateful comments.

“The amount of gender violence that I experienced is absolutely extraordinary,” Judd said in an interview with Craig Melvin that aired Tuesday on NBC’s “Today.” “And a significant part of my day today will be spent filing police reports at home about gender violence that’s directed at me on social media.”

Melvin asked, “That many people?” She responded, “That many people, that explicit, that overt.”

Judd also spoke out immediately against the attacks on Twitter, retweeting a particularly vile sample comment and tweeting, “When when I express a stout opinion during #MarchMadness I am … threatened with sexual violence. Not okay.”

She continued defending herself Monday on Twitter: “Example: I am mentally weak for not tolerating sodomy threats. ‘@AshleyJudd oversensitive liberals like are you that mentally weak?'”

According to Melvin, Judd “does not anticipate these cases are going to be prosecuted vigorously, but she does want to send a message.”

Occupied Bathrooms Are Bad For The Jews!

Oy vey! I’m in pain! I take all these magnesium tablets at night to help me sleep, but the next morning, there’s hell to pay.

Chaim Amalek: “You should burst into that occupied bathroom like a Zionist settler immigrating to Palestine in ’47 on the Exodus, plant your flag, and violently expel whoever is in there.”

* One of my Alexander Technique students just got cast as the lead in a new network TV show.

Chaim Amalek: “Hashem wants us to control tv for reasons like this, just as he wants the Irish to drink and drink and drink. Jewish mastery of Television is all but written into the bible.”

* Just heard the Mexican help tell a Jew: “You can do it later.”
Jew, dripping with sarcasm: “Thank you for that.”

Is there any example in history of a low-IQ group not hating its high IQ overlords? I’m thinking about black and latino Jew-hatred in particular. If you have a 90 IQ, how could you not hate those with IQs way about your own, particularly if they are of a different race?

* This old man keeps offering me butterscotch lifesavers. My parents warned me this would happen.

Luke: “My parents said I would be particularly vulnerable because of my pretty boy looks.”

Old Man: “Why? Because you could charge more?”

* I asked a friend: “So that 20yo UCLA girl I met in your succah, does she have a BF?”
He said: “It won’t work, she’s not shomer. You’re way too pious for her. You need somebody in therapy, that could be manipulated easily with low self esteem.”

Friend: “If I had your accent, I’d have the girls lining up at my door.”

“You’re not responding, are you stalking me, trying to dig up some dirt in the middle of the convo? Or are you pretending to work, as your boss passes you?”

Luke: “I was blogging about Israel’s elections dammit!”

Friend: “Rabble rousing?”

Luke: “A lot of people want to know what I think and I don’t know what I think until I ask my friends what I think.”

Ferguson Real Estate Values Crash Thanks To Racial Agitation

The Jewish state is Israel. Everywhere else Jews live, they are, perhaps, in exile. In the diaspora, Jews might be nomads. Germans, by contrast, can be expected to have ties of blood and soil to Germany, but German Jews, much less so. Norwegians can be expected to similarly have ties of blood and soil to Norway, but Norwegian Jews don’t have these ties to the same degree. Their homeland, perhaps, is Israel.

Comments to Steve Sailer:

* Is there a way to speculate in real estate that would make a years-long spiral of racial tensions and violence profitable for unscrupulous investors?

And are there forensic economists who can detect such crimes? What do they look for?

* The effects of a man who caught the attention of the Eye of Soros can be seen in Glenn Beck. At one time he was calling Soros the Puppet Master and Spooky Dude. Not long after, he lost his show and was called an antisemite.

Since then, he now says Putin is the most evil man, says that the rise of far-right parties in Europe are a threat to the world and is giving toys and hot meals to underage illegals. Being noticed from the Eye of Soros really changes a man.

* Maybe that’s Soros’ scam. Drive down property values, then buy them for a fraction of the original cost. After that rent them to the feral underclass, slumlord style, or sell the properties to federal agencies for them to rent to their political clients ( section 8).
There’s also the possibility to sell the houses for gentrification. Also, when Ferguson properties go down, other areas in the country take a boost simply by virtue of not being where the agitation is.
Now, imagine using the Ferguson strategy in other places, near big urban centres around the USA. Call it the Eric Holder Farewell Tour. A smash hit around the country! It’ll be worth billions.
Soros knows something we don’t, that’s for sure. It must be fun to make a killing while playing social justice warrior at the same time. The right should learn a trick or two from this international conman. The way I picture Soros is like a James Bond villain.

* That was one fine job of wealth destruction. Well done, Democrats-leftist activists.

Making almost *everyone* poor is certainly one way of achieving nominal egalitarianism (*excluding captains of the government-sponsored financial services industry and the like, of course).

Now that I think of it, the so-called Obamacare too has done a fine job of reducing the disposable income of most middle and upper-middle class Americans, and making all the heavily indebted young doctors poorer (which of course reduces the incentive to become a physician, who are in a short supply and will be in a shorter supply still due to the new law), all the while enriching the much tinier segment of the population that runs insurance companies, just so that the government can control all aspects of healthcare.

Will Mexicans Save America?

Economist: “PREVIOUS immigrant groups typically saw progress with each passing generation, but Hispanic numbers have a habit of stalling or even heading backwards. American-born children of Hispanic immigrants tend to be less healthy than their parents, have higher divorce rates and go to jail more often. Jump from migrants’ children to their grandchildren, and studies have shown academic results slipping in the third generation. Conservatives fret about “downward assimilation” […]Steve Murdock of Rice University, a former boss of the US Census bureau, recently published a paper warning Texans that Hispanics are not getting enough advanced degrees and qualifications to replace highly educated whites retiring from their state’s workforce.”

Why The Decline Of Violence In The West?

Comments to anthropologist Peter Frost:

* One interesting aspect of the punishment of criminals in the Sinosphere is a concept of shared familial responsibility. If a person committed a crime, not only the criminal himself would be punished, but often his entire family or clan would also be punished (stripped of rank, enslaved, have wife and children “confiscated,” etc.). This might have contributed to the relative lack of warmth in East Asian families — they tend to be hawkishly vigilant, constantly on the lookout to discover and reprimand family members and relatives (especially subordinate ones) for suspicious activities or even minor social faux pas. Presumably, individuals who treated their kinsmen harshly and who were susceptible to shaming by said kinsmen would leave significantly more descendants than individuals who either left their kinsmen up to their own devices or were thick-skinned and immune to their kinsmen’s heckling. The amount of paranoia and animosity toward family members that I have observed in many of my East Asian friends is quite shocking.

* East Asia has produced its fair share of high-trust environments, and indeed this is part of why East Asian business has been successful in many cases. The rotating credit associations for example that were instrumental in raising capital of Asians in the US to start businesses depend on a high degree of mutual trust. In fact analysts of “Asian values” produce solid evidence of high trust environments in East Asia. And Europe itself has been far from exempt in pursing clannishness for protection and help. The Irish are a prime example of clannishness at work, a phenomenon contributing much to their political success in places like the US. Likewise Italian Americans have at times been marked by mutually suspicious clannishness, particularly along regional and even intra-regional lines (Sowell- Ethnic America).

Frost writes: I’m sure Finns have high IQs, as do Russians, but the genes that influence intellectual capacity are not the same as the ones that influence latent aggressiveness, violence aversion, and anger threshold. Genes don’t come in packages marked “Good stuff” and “Bad stuff.” In any case, personal violence is not universally considered to be “bad.” In many cultures, violent males are admired and considered to be role models.

Russians aren’t Chechens, but in comparison to Western Europeans they show a stronger tendency toward familialism and defence of their families against perceived threats or insults. From my observation, when Russian men are with each other, they are more likely to engage in mildly aggressive behavior with each other or with strangers to see how far they can go. I’ve repeatedly seen this kind of brinkmanship in perfectly sober Russian men.

* …White southerners also exhibit a behavioral profile that corresponds more to what we see in less pacified human populations, e.g., greater importance attacked to “honor” and “face”, familialism, etc.

* The universe is neither moral nor immoral. We have imposed morality on an amoral world, under the influence of advanced religions like Christianity. Previously, notions of “good” and “evil” were based on Who-Whom. If something was good for me and my people, it was “moral.” If it was bad for me and my people, it was “immoral.” Christianity revolutionized morality by making it absolute and universal.

Facebook Curbs Speech

Comments:

* Diversity is always an excuse to conceal, bully, censor, punish, and suppress free expression.

* “This is particularly challenging for issues such as hate speech. Hate speech has always been banned on Facebook, and in our new community standards, we explain our efforts to keep our community free from this kind of abusive language.” ”

So, I guess Facebook will require that all the absurd “hip hop” and “gangsta rap” songs depicting the killing of cops and Whites will be deleted from and disallowed. Not.

* “It’s a challenge to maintain one set of standards that meets the needs of a diverse global community.”

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Diversity is not something that comes naturally and is embraced by all people. Diversity is a challenge and a problem that must be endured and worked on if it is to succeed (and it never does).

* Latin and Asian women are regarded as more feminine than the western white woman. This is partly because cultural Marxist brainwashing makes white women largely unsuitable for long term companionship.

Remove the filth of Marxist tyranny and you can see why every woman wants to look as white as possible. African weave and horse hair wig production is almost a billion dollar industry.

* The perpetually offended are in charge of setting the subjective standards.

The ADL and the Southern ‘Anything But’ Poverty Law Center will be monitoring for compliance.

* Some of those doofs are actually unhappy whenever they are *NOT* busy pretending to be “offended”. Political Correctness has taken on the trappings of a religion, in which the basic assumptions are not subject to debate; they are therefore dogma. Dissidents are thus relegated to the socially-dead status once reserved for witches and heretics, and persecution of us makes the PC bastards feel good about themselves.

I could write a completely neutral piece about the post-WW2 Soviet naval shipbuilding program and someone would crawl out of the woodwork, accuse me of “warmongering” and have a little snit-fit about being “offended”. If I wrote about home vegetable-gardening, someone else would whine about “introduced species”. Making fishing tackle, home-brewing hard cider or performing auto repairs? Oh, no; those are “red-necky”. Investment advice? “Capitalist exploiter” who needs to pay “his fair share”, which is apparently everything I possess.

They don’t care about reality anymore; inconvenient truths have been termed “hate facts” by some of these puerile jack-wagons in their War On Noticing.

* Black Pride: Acceptable.
Hispanic Pride: Acceptable.
Gay Pride: Acceptable.
White Pride: Banned for hate speech.

We all know the game and who will be targeted and who won’t and for what reasons.

* I value open debate on important and controversial issues. Shouting racial epithets and telling racist jokes does not contribute to the conversation on race the United States and the West needs to have.

Goy Rejected By All Jewish Summer Camps

REPORT: “The boy’s father feels he shouldn’t be rejected based on religion, and claims the 13-year-old boy just wants to be with his friends.”

Chaim Amalek: “Sorry, dude, but that’s life. Jews have no right to send their kids to muslim camp or school, and if a Jewish school or camp wants to exclude gentiles it should be free to do so.”

I am sure Jews would never complain about being refused by goyisha institutions such as schools, camps, hotels and restaurants.

How can you be a Somali-loving Minnesotan WASP pastor and embrace Israel?

A Jewish friend writes: Did the world screw up in recognizing a Jewish homeland – Israel – in 1948, or was it wise to do so, creating a place for 6,000,000 Jews to be who otherwise might be causing all kinds of problems in America and Europe?

The establishment of this racial/tribal/religious ethnostate was the last gasp of the European impulse to spread its dominion over the world, which is why real cultural liberals have to hate it.

A Jewish friend says:

I wanted to weigh in on whether having a fractured Arab world benefits Israel.

Before that, I think it is important to distinguish between what constitutes Jewish interests in the United States and Canada from Jewish interests in Western Europe, from Jewish interests in Eastern Europe and Jewish interests in Israel. I am not sure that they are at all the same.

If you study the history of the modern state of Israel as a dispassionate observer, it is pretty clear that it is a colonial state. It was founded and originally populated by Jews primarily from Eastern Europe, later with a large influx from Arab countries. The Jews displaced a native Arab population, that now calls itself Palestinian, but that simply designates the area they are from.

If you believe that God promised the land to the Jews, then none of this makes any difference, but that is not the sort of argument that one makes to people who are not so religiously inclined or sympathetic to that religious view (that is to say Christian Zionists.)

Because Israel has always been in a situation where it has a large restive internal population and until it signed a peace treaty with Egypt, at war not only with its neighbors but with its neighbor’s neighbors, its policies have always been expedient and the country has exploited Arab weakness with superior tactics, but without much of a strategic vision and certainly without attempting to implement any long term strategy for the country’s survival.

Israel benefits from having stability in neighboring countries, if those countries have a government that wants peace with Israel. Egypt is the perfect example of this. It served Israel to have the country have an authoritarian government, be it led by Sadat, Mubarak or no Al-Sissi. Egypt is desperately poor, and unlike Sadat’s predecessor Nasser, these men have not been demagogues seeking to divert frustration over lack of jobs and food into antagonism toward Israel. To go to Egypt’s neighbor, Libya, I don’t think Israel wanted its stability affected. If what happened to Libya happened to Egypt it would be a disaster for Israel. Israel could launch punitive raids on the Islamic fundamentalists, but much better to have the government reign them in and to be held responsible than to have unaccountable militias launch small scale attacks.

Syria and Iraq actually pose different threats to Israel. Both were relatively secular Baathist regimes. In both cases a member of a minority held power, Assad as an Alawite in Syria, Hussein as a Sunni in a Shia majority Iraq. (In fact, only a minority can effectively govern. A majority would snuff out the rights of the minorities, something that those who supported deposing Assad seem to forget.) Israel would much rather have antagonistic regimes be strictly Islamist than be ones that protect the minority. The strict Muslim governments would have less support in the West. Even Obama recognizes this in his willingness to deal with Iran which still has a large population of Christians, and smaller populations of BaHai’s and Jews.

I don’t think Israel thinks it makes any difference in a military senses whether Hussein or Assad are in power. Neither was in a position to militarily threaten Israel. Syria did fight Israel in 1967 and 1973 but its two allies in the 67 war and its one ally in 73 both made peace with Israel. Assad is a realist and knows that by attacking Israel he is signing his own death warrant.

There has been a strain in the Israeli government since at least 1967 that believes that Jordan, which has a majority Palestinian population, should depose its monarchy and become a Palestinian state, but pretty much most Israelis have been happy with the status quo first under King Hussein and now under his son King Abdullah.

I don’t think that if the Arabs weren’t involved in infighting that they would devote their resources to building war machines to challenge Israel or to fight Israel out of solidarity with their Palestinian brothers, but many Israelis would disagree with me.

Israelis have exploited and will continue to exploit factions within the Palestinians when they see if giving them a short term tactical advantage. It has been widely reported and I think accepted that Israel provided material support to Hamas when it first was organized because they wanted to split the Palestinians. Of course, they are not happy with Hamas which has proven to be a pretty intractable and resilient opponent of Israel. But you might want to imagine what it would be like for Israel if the Palestinians both in the West Bank and Gaza and those who are refugees all accepted the PLO as their legitimate government and representative. So in that sense, at least as regards the Palestinians, it serves Israel’s interest to keep them fractious.

R. Eliyahu Fink Leaves Pacific Jewish Center

Rabbi Fink posts on FB: This coming week (Vayikra) will be my last week as the rabbi of Pacific Jewish Center | The Shul on the Beach. To send us off, the Shul is planning a community luncheon and we would love for you to join us.
When our landlord gave us 60 days notice, it gave us a chance to reevaluate our lives and we decided it was time to move on.
We part ways with the Shul on excellent terms. It’s been an incredibly life-changing 6.5 years and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have been the rabbi of such a historic shul and special community. I have learned so much about myself and others, but above all, I have built memories, friendships, and relationships that will be a part of me forever. The time has come to move on and we are very excited about the bigger and better things ahead.
The Orthodox Jewish community really does not have anything like The Shul on the Beach. A traditional Orthodox service that is accessible and can appeal to people from all backgrounds and perspectives. A place without judgment and a place of warmth and comfort. A place of conscious living and personal growth. A place where everyone belongs. I have been asked about bringing “The Beach to Beverlywood“ – among other places – and I am eager and excited to accept this challenge.
Thank you to all of who I met at The Shul on the Beach or at our home in Santa Monica. To those of you who hoped to visit or meet at The Shul on the Beach, of course we would love for you to join us the Next Thing. Meanwhile, The Shul on the Internet lives on.
Fittingly, we just completed the Book of *Exodus* with these words:
!חזק חזק ונתחזק
