Friars

From EvasNotes:

The worst insult you can tell to an Israeli is that he is a friar. Anyone who lets others take advantage of them is a friar. One reason why Israelis hate the chareidim in Israel so much is because they can get away with going to the army. Israelis don’t have any real nationalistic pride anymore- offer any Israeli a job and a green card in the US and they’ll be on the next plane. Meaning, they have no real desire to be in the army and when they see that the chareidim don’t have to go it makes them feel like friars.

In the US the mentality is the exact opposite of a friar mind-set. I don’t know why but Americans love when they are taken advantage of as long as it means that they appear nice, and don’t appear too tough or mean. Appearing tough is a positive attribute according to all Israelis.

Saudis On Studio Board

From NYPost.com:

A new movie company called the Film Department has just been born. Its CEO is Mark Gill, for mer Miramax and Warner Independent exec who masterminded "March of the Penguins." Two of its board members are Sheik Waleed Al Ibrahim and Zeid Masri.

The Saudi Arabian sheik runs stations that are mouthpieces for the Saudis. Like for instance, Al Arabiya news network, which is not known to be pro-U.S.

Zeid Masri runs the McLean, Va., operation SilverHaze, which has in the past secretly invested Palestine Liberation Organization money through front companies. His SilverHaze caused the Bowlmor scandal this newspaper broke in 2004.

Despite everything I did to him, Dave Deutsch is still my friend, he stills talks me up to his Vietnamese girls, and he blogs at Heeb:

In the spirit of Sammy Davis, Jr., we at Jewdar are inclined to turn a blind eye to politics. But when Jewish control of Hollywood is threatened, we will not be silent. Granted, there are those who argue that Jews never ran Hollywood, or that the gays have taken over. Thus, were we decidedly nonplussed when we found out that Mark Gill, Hollywood MOTshot was selling baby Moses down the river, or some such mixed metaphor.

SEEKING ADDITIONAL VICTIMS OF RABBI SHALOM TENDLER , RABBI ARON TENDLER AND YULA – YESHIVA UNIVERSITY OF LOS ANGELES

UnOrthodox Jew posts:

For at the very least twenty years, YULA and the RCC (Rabbinical Council Of California), have been enabling Shalom and Aron Tendler to be in a setting that caused great harm to their victims, under the cloak of respectability. There are numerous victims that could have been spared a life of misery if YULA and the RCC would have expelled these two vicious sub-humans when they became aware of their activities in the late 1980’s.

The civil liability may extend to the Shaarey Tzedek Congregation, and the Young Israel Of North Beverly Hills as well and their officers.

I urge the victims to consult anonymously if you wish with Jeffrey Herman Esq. the world renown sex abuse advocate at [email protected]–1800-686-9921. His website is hermanlaw.com for information about his successes.

Please contact as well, the religion editor of the L.A. Times, Mr. Steve Padilla.
Steve can be reached at:[email protected].

It is long past due that we hold everyone accountable for the damage caused to Judaism and our children.

Things I Heard From My High School Principal

From Evasnotes.blogspot.com:

Going on the internet is like eating pig. (I never knew pig was kosher.)

Movies in Hebrew spells maves– death.

A girl who listens to the radio can not possibly have a close connection with Hashem and daven with kavanah.

Going to a secular community college is equivalent to avoda zarah, giluy arayos, and shefichus damim. (After I had already graduated the principal actually called up my mother one night and told her this after hearing that I might be going to a local community college. The only impression it left on me- I never knew adultery was such a lenient casual sin.)

The Lovers Of Mirthala Salinas

Eric Longabardi said on John and Ken’s KFI show last week that Telemundo reporter/anchor Mirthala Salinas (the mayor’s girlfriend) had an affair with yet another Los Angeles  politician (not named) and El Piolin (Eduardo Sotelin), L.A.’s most listened-to radio host as well as co-workers who could help her career. "She’s a power-f—ker," notes Longabardi. "She has a long list."

The Limits Of Orthodox Theology

Failed Messiah blogs:

The new Jewish Action, a quarterly publication of the supposedly Modern Orthodox OU, has a hit piece written by Rabbi Zev Leff. The target of Rabbi Leff’s hit? Professor Marc B. Shapiro’s now-three-year-old book, The Limits of Orthodox Theology: Maimonides’ Thirteen Principles Reappraised.

Dr. Shapiro is Modern Orthodox, active in his community and a teacher at the popular Toronto-based Torah In Motion series currently under haredi attack. Rabbi Leff is a haredi polemicist and an alumnus of Teshe Yeshiva. Dr. Shapiro is a widely published scholar; Rabbi Leff is not.

Los Angeles Spanish Language News Media Is A Joke

The primary point of my initial (Jan. 29) report on the mayor’s defunct marriage was to highlight L.A.’s lazy news media (particularly The Los Angeles Times).

Now that the mayor’s scandal has broken wide open, which news media is the most reluctant to report it? The Spanish-language news media such as Telemundo, Univision and LA Opinion.

As Eric Longabardi has shown at ERSNews.com, Telemundo was happy to use Mirthala Salinas’s intimate connections to Latino politicians because, like its Spanish language peers, it has no journalistic standards.

Spanish language TV is particularly pathetic. They’ve never given Villaraigosa critical scrutiny.

It must be mandatory for the women on Spanish-language news to dress slutty. I remember spending two weeks in Puerto Rico in 1980 and I was shocked at how their television was much more sexually charged (particularly the ads).

The Spanish language news media is not held to the same standards as the mainstream press, an MSM journalist explained to me. Little is expected of them. The soft bigotry of low expectations.

In Mexico, journalism is a corrupt occupation. It’s assumed that Mexican journalists are on the take.

That attitude has transferred to Los Angeles. Latino culture here doesn’t value journalism and newspapers. If it did, La Opinion would have the highest circulation newspaper in L.A. just as a Spanish-speaking host has the highest radio audience.

The black press is even worse. The Los Angeles Sentinel is pathetic, filled with angry screeds and little original reporting. The best of the ethnic papers is the Jewish Journal.

On July 19, I emailed Pedro Rojas, editorial director of La Opinion, these questions (he did not respond):

How would you rate the aggressiveness of Spanish-language media on the mayor’s marital troubles?

In your opinion, do the Spanish-language news media hold themselves accountable to the same journalistic standards as the regular press? Or is the mayor regarded as "one of us" and covered accordingly?

Eric Longabardi reports:

ERSNews has exclusively obtained e-mails documenting that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was receiving written questions in advance, sometimes days in advance, before television interviews that were conducted on the Univision Los Angeles based television station KMEX-TV34. The questions were then asked during on-air interviews conducted by the stations in-studio anchors for a segment known as "Villaraigosa a su lado", which translates from Spanish as "Villaraigosa on your side".

The so-called broadcast "interviews" were conducted regularly on Wednesdays each week in 2006 and through mid-2007.

The questions sent to the Mayor were represented to the public as impromptu-unscripted questions. ERSNews had uncovered they were anything but that. The topics ran the gamut of issues concerning Villaraigosa’s job as LA’s mayor.

ERSNews has learned that the questions were provided to the Mayor in advance via a direct link. That link was the Mayor’s Deputy press secretary Diana Rubio. Rubio was working directly with the Executive Producer of Univision and others at KMEX, including at the time the station’s Vice President of News. Other news staff was well aware of the communications and the intertwined relationship the station had developed with the Mayor’s office. According to sources familiar with the situation, the mayor’s office exerted extensive influence and sway in insuring the Mayor was not put in any light other than a favorable one, something Univision accommodated routinely.

ERSNews has the obtained emails, parts of which are translated below (the verbatim text in Spanish as communicated between Univision news executives and the Mayor’s deputy press secretary Ms. Rubio can be seen here:

L.A. MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA AND TELEMUNDO TV ANCHOR – STILL AN ITEM?

Eric Longabardi posts:

ERSNews has learned that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and his "girlfriend" Mirthala Salinas have secretly met since the scandal broke nearly two weeks ago. The most recent meeting taking place late last week. The meeting involved the Mayor with his city provided security detail in tow. Multiple sources have confirmed to ERSNews that the secret meeting in fact took place.

…Sources inside NBC/Universal confirm to ERSNews that Paula Madison, former General Manager of KNBC-TV and now head of diversity for NBC/Universal had the authority and was in fact the person who was responsible for removing Salinas from the political reporting beat due to her personal relationship with the Mayor. ERSNews sought direct comment from Ms. Madison about her role in the case, but was referred to NBC/Telemundo spokesman Victor Franco, who declined comment, saying only that the internal investigation of the matter was nearing completion and they withhold any comment until it was complete. Asked by ERSNew.com when that would be, spokesman Franco would only say "soon".

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Mirthala Salinas and the New York Minute

From Flapsblog.com:

Ana Garcia of KNBC Channnel 4 television will have a video report on the 11 PM PDT news that shows unprecedented and exclusive press access given by the Mayor to Mirthala Salinas when the Mayor traveled to New York City in March 2006.

The video clip is here.

Here’s the complete audio of Ana Garcia’s report.

LAObserved.

From Flapsblog.com:

So, what is the FLAP?

1. The Mayor is stonewalling the press and the public’s right to know his schedule, his communications and what he does on the “public’s dime.”

2. Mayor Villar has preferentially given interviews and press access to his girl friend, Mirthala Salinas.

3. Hizzoner availed himself of a private jet to fly to Rosa Parks funeral, paid by a special interest and campaign contributor, Ameriquest Corporation because the Mayor could not timely take a commercial flight because he wanted to spend time with Mirthala Salinas at her Studio City condominium.
