Israeli Soldiers expel 200 Palestinians from pool to allow settlers to bathe

Jewish settlers in this story understandably do not want to swim with Palestinians. There are Torah laws against bathing with Gentiles (Kahane proposed making it illegal in Israel for Jews to do this). Why is it so hard to understand that many non-blacks do not want to swim with blacks? Integration often leads to conflict and tragedy.

Chaim Amalek writes: “Sounds like South Africa under apartheid, or perhaps the deep south of the US under Jim Crow. Were I a Palestinian this would enrage me. Fortunately though, I am a liberal of the Upper West Side stripe, who understands these things.”

On the other hand, if the pool was cleared to allow 200 SOLDIERS to bathe, then Israeli soldiers are not allowed to bathe with anyone outside the IDF.

Mondoweiss:

Musa Abu Hashhash: “A Border Police officer ordered me to get out of the water quickly. At first I refused and told him that I wanted to be in the pool and had a right to be there. I said that I had no problem with the settlers swimming along with me. He threatened to use force if I didn’t get out of the water quickly, so my friends and I had no choice but to get out. The soldiers ordered the Palestinians who were around the pool to move back to the edge of the park, to stay there, and not to approach the settlers.”

Pool Party Racism

Comments to Steve Sailer:

* Bafflingly, the Texas swimming pool story was featured as a *top story* on the BBC World News TV broadcast.

The same kind of “POS” incident probably occurs tens of thousands of times a day across the world. Why is this a top “World News” story? We ask.

This pathetic incident barely even merits mention in local news (probably doesnt even there).

* If no one is going to say it then I will. This is all about the black bodies, once again. This is about the black bodies in bathing suits that barely fit the black physique. This is about being able to stare at dripping wet black bodies behind designer shades that make the eye-candy object even blacker, and the staring even stronger, perfectly guilt-free staring at beaming black bodies swimming about. This is about liberating the forbidden fruit of splashing black bodies, swimming in the deep end of desire, free-styling with their chiseled appendages in baking hot heat, nary a floater in sight, too much tone, too little body-fat, these black bodies. This outcry concerns nothing but the black bodies Steve, the ones we want to see when we want to see them the most, the Mandingos in paltry loincloth, sweat dripping everywhere. Someone had to say it.

* Also, but after all these decades of integration, blacks still don’t make for the best swimmers in pools. Not very many NCAA Div I champs who are black. Must be something racist about that, too, and just maybe the whites left blacks with all the broken down and dirty (less chlorine) pools in the urban areas.

* The pool fiasco was started by a woman and daughter, both Black and in Section 8 housing, posting flyers about a party with a DJ. DJ set up illegally, tresspassing. Black kids swarmed the gated community climbing through back yards and fighting with each other and residents. Black non section 8 residents complained and are complaining still, about an illegal admission paying party on pruvate property.

New trend, Section 8 renters creating pay for admission pool parties. Not even a gated community can keep the Black undertow away. Reports have over 200 ‘teens’ oh those teens in a small community pool area.

* Why does the left focus so much on historical racism and police violence?

This is why: if you looked at racial violence in America today, you will see blacks committing crimes against whites at far higher rates than vice-versa. This doesn’t fit with their narrative of blacks always being the victims and whites the oppressors. So to solve that problem, and to maintain the illusion that racial violence is something mostly done to blacks, they have to focus on either historical racism, or police violence.

We have the right to demand accountability from all citizens, both criminals and police. Justice applies to everyone.

Including that whites have the right to demand accountability from black criminals.

So while police violence can be a legitimate issue of concern, the left are just using it to distract from the reality of racial violence in America. And it seems to work. Holding the megaphone is nice.

* My mom told me that in her small home town they were forced to let blacks into the public pool after desegregation. After about 6 months the city council voted to just shut it down. White parents shelled out for membership at private pools at a country club in a neighboring bigger town. My naive young self suggested that that seemed absurdly racist. She told me that I had no idea what I was talking about. I group up in a town of about 5K with one black family and one nice public and two private pools at the country club. Then I went to college and figured out what she meant.

* A Black thug recently murdered a Greek American guy and his entire family in Washington D.C, yet that news story did not even get 1/16 the national media coverage that the McKinney swimming pool incident is getting even though it did not result in any Black deaths.

We have to rewind the clock back to 21 years ago for the last time White lives mattered when murdered by a Black perpetrator, I am speaking of Nicole Brown of course.

* I lived for a couple of years in Addison in 2006-08, which is a short drive on the Dallas Tollway from McKinney. Had a good friend from college who lived there with his family at the time so I’ve been there quite a bit. It’s just a small town that absolutely exploded in the past couple of decades from white flight. Middle to upper middle class mostly (at least back then), but by no means “wealthy” as most would mean by that word. It’s really more of a suburb of Plano than Dallas, now that Plano has gotten fairly big and big corporations have moved there. Wealthy in Dallas is Highland Park, University Park, Preston Hollow, and parts of far North Dallas. This would have never happened at any of those places because outsiders, black, white or whatever, would never have gotten anywhere near the gates of the pool. Any “Make it Clap” party would be shut down by the cops in 5 minutes.

* Gee, no mention of what happened when Mayor Bloomberg renovated the historic McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn in 2012? A day after the grand re-opening a gang of black teens attacked the white life guards and the riot squad had to be called in to restore order. During the summer the pool is constantly being closed because of contamination from vomit or fecal matter.

If I’m not mistaken the “White girl bleed a lot” incident occurred there.

* My parents were both from east side South Chicago and moved for work reasons before I was born, but occasionally we’d go back. We’d drive around and see all these park areas with swingsets and such, which seemed perfectly normal, but there would always be this small brick building, symmetrical with doors on either end, in the middle of the place, with no signs. My dad explained that that was where the pool was, but when “the n*****s came in” (and that’s just what he said) the city tore out and filled in all the pools, in the late 50s or early 60s. The entrances were those buildings, women in on one side, men on the other, with the changing rooms. When they got rid of the pool they tore down the cyclone fencing but left the building as a storage shed.

I thought that was mean and stupid until I finally realized that what the old people told me was true: the blacks acted in threatening and repulsive ways, were filthy, and were a danger to themselves and to the nonblack swimmers alike. Several drowned every year even with trained lifeguards around. The city was liable no matter what notices were posted or papers signed, so they claimed it was an outbreak of some mythical disease or newfound cracks in the cement or whatever and one spring, the pools just disappeared.

The same thing happened in a lot of cities in that time frame.

* The NYT is continuing to propagate the lie that this was a “pool party”. The “Get the Clap” event put on by this (likely) section-8 renter / party-promoter was essentially a for-profit scheme. She set up shop in a public park (without a permit) adjacent to a community pool, and preceded to hose down the area with loud gansta-rap. The section-8 flash-mob that showed up then preceded to run riot over the area. There was no party at the pool. The Times, along with most of the rest of the media, is just engagin in a lie.

* On Memorial Day 2011 a very popular public beach in Chicago, North Avenue Beach, was closed down by authorities after things got out of hand due to it’s invasion by hundreds of black youths. The chaos couldn’t be tamped down so the response was to just shut it all down. The official cover story was that it was because it was ‘too hot’. That’s why people go to the beach, because it’s hot and they can splash in the water so the story was just a cover-up. That’s been standard operating procedure, to lie and cover up whenever society’s holy cows might be seen to look bad.
I knew trouble was brewing when I saw groups of dozens and dozens of black and rican youths swaggering around with their shirts off, displaying their gang tattoos, heading for that beach. They kept coming and from their body language anybody could see they were hyped up for some action. The south side beach areas have been all fixed up in recent years at considerable cost and are closer to ghetto types coming east so should logically be their first choice. But they preferred invading the mostly white north side beach just so they could act out, start fights and just generally trash the place.

The North-South Divide With Two Parent Families Is More A Black/White Divide

Sac Bee: Michael James Hunter, theater instructor and mentor, dies at 66

It seems like most of the rabbis and teachers I have known who were particularly friendly with their students (such as Jules Zentner, my best friend during my 20s, or Rabbi Aron Tendler) were also having sex with their students. This Michael Hunter professor is my former teacher at Sierra College. I loved the guy. We had a lot of great conversations after class. He was always upbeat and positive and funny and charming. He used to have flings with his female students. It would get whispered about by the hotties on campus but it wasn’t regarded as a big deal (though many female students had contempt for teachers who hit on them). A lot of the charismatic teachers at Sierra College had sex with their students.

I was innocent about all this until one hottie in my class hung out with me after finals in December of 1987. And after she told me about Michael Hunter, we saw him in the parking lot that evening making time with a cute female student, and suddenly everything fell into place. She says another favorite teacher of mine called her a bitch when she turned him down.

Sac Bee: Michael James Hunter, theater instructor and mentor, dies at 66:

The Sacramento theater community is mourning the death of Michael Hunter, a longtime instructor of film and theater arts at Sierra College, respected actor and director.

Mr. Hunter died Feb. 11 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Roseville, as a result of a subarachnoid hemorrhage. He was 66.

He is being remembered as passionate about film and theater as a professor and thoughtful, generous and gracious as a mentor to several generations of students at Sierra College, where he taught from 1976 to 2013.

“He leaned towards theater of substance,” said Martha Kight, a local theater performer and former student of Hunter’s. “He produced musicals because people wanted to do them, and he also felt that students should be exposed to them as well, but his heart really lay in the American classics. He liked to give the kids all kinds of exposure.”

Mr. Hunter also was a notable presence in the Music Circus box office from 1968 until 2014.

“If you didn’t have self confidence when you walked in as a student or employee,” Kight said, “you certainly did when you walked out.”

Michael James Hunter was born in Sacramento to James and Gloria Hunter on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1948. He grew up in Roseville, graduated from Roseville High School in 1966, attended Sierra College, and earned a bachelor’s degree in speech/theater at Sacramento State and a master of fine arts degree in dramatic art at UC Davis.

He became a full-time professor at Sierra College in 1976 and directed one or two plays a year on campus. He was also active in local theater in the 1980s and was a member of the National Guard and the stagehands’ IATSE Union, Local 50…

Mr. Hunter’s two previous marriages ended in divorce.

Steve Sailer: Bratton Explains Why There Are Limits to How Many Black Cops You Can Hire

Steve Sailer writes:

From The Guardian, an article about a public official telling the truth:

NYPD chief Bratton says hiring black officers is difficult: ‘So many have spent time in jail’

New York police commissioner says bringing more non-white officers into force is challenging because many African American men have criminal records

Hiring more non-white officers is difficult because so many would-be recruits have criminal records, the New York police commissioner, Bill Bratton, has said.

“We have a significant population gap among African American males because so many of them have spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them,” Bratton said in an interview with the Guardian.

Another way of looking at it is that black cops are roughly in proportion to their race’s percentage of law-abiding citizens in the NYC commuting zone, but not in proportion to the black race’s share of total criminals in NYC.

When the usual furor started, Bratton told the NY Daily News:

“These are facts and I always deal with facts,” he said.

Bratton is both a slick politician and rather more of a straightshooter than we’re used to these days. At least outside U.S. territory. For example, here’s a blunt, wise 2006 interview that Bratton gave Linda Frum of the Canadian news magazine Maclean’s regarding Toronto’s crime problem:

Q. [Frum] So you know a little bit about our city? You know about our problems? A 27-per-cent increase in the number of homicides from 1995 to today. A Boxing Day slaying where a 15-year-old innocent bystander was gunned down during a gang shootout on a major shopping street. Can I tell you — it would be nice if you were our police chief.

A. [Bratton] Well, thank you. Tell me, the gang violence that you are experiencing, what is the racial or ethnic background of the gangs?

Q. That’s a refreshingly blunt question. Some say it may be as high as 80 per cent Jamaican. But no one knows for sure, because people here don’t like to talk about that.

A. You need to talk about it. It’s all part of the issue. If it’s Jamaican gangs that are committing the crimes, well then, go after the Jamaican gangs. And don’t be afraid to go after them because they’re black. That’s the last thing you need to be concerned with.

Q. Oh boy, I can see the complaints coming in already. You have to understand the climate here. The major local daily in Toronto, the Toronto Star, says it doesn’t believe in “gratuitously” labelling people by ethnic origin.

A. Well, that really helps identify who they are, doesn’t it? The next step will be to refuse to allow the police to identify people by their race or ethnic origin. That type of societal consciousness really goes to extremes. …

Q. The Broken Windows approach to policing is assertive and increases the frequency of interaction with citizens on a daily basis. Is it a method of policing that is possible only with the right political will behind it?

A. Political will is absolutely critical. In other words, if your government, your society, is saying, “We don’t want you focusing on the little things because we’re concerned it might be seen as racially incorrect,” or, “We’re concerned that it’s not appreciative of the ethnic backgrounds of people” — well, that’s the lame excuse that got American policing into so much trouble in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. The attitude was, “We’re not going to police some of these minor crimes in the minority neighbourhoods. After all, what’s the harm? There are really no victims to prostitution, or gangs hanging on the corner and drinking.” But what we didn’t understand was that the victim was the neighbourhood. It was like a cancer eating away at that neighbourhood. And all the people who lived there were ultimately the victims as their neighbourhoods deteriorated. It’s guaranteed that if you don’t control those minor types of violations, you are going to create a climate in which the people perpetrating them are emboldened to try and get away with more…

Q. Rather than focus on social and economic causes, you’ve said in the past that one of the most important ways to reduce crime is to go after narcotics. . .

A. Well, what are the Jamaican gangs up there fighting over — who controls the drug trade?

Q. Yes.

A. Exactly. So to do it, they are going to do the same thing they do down in Jamaica, which is resort to violence as the first way of dealing with it. Whether it’s your Asian gangs that are trying to control the gambling or your gangs coming in from Eastern Europe trying to control the credit card fraud, they all have their specialties. It comes back to core principles. The criminal justice system, if properly co-ordinated, and properly supported politically and publicly, can in fact control crime. And the way you control crime is through controlling behaviour.

Q. So the situation in Canada is far from hopeless. . .

A. The good news is we know what to do about crime. You need to have political leaders, police chiefs, and the community working together, under the community policing partnership principle. You need to develop priorities and develop focus. And also go from the underlying understanding that crime is caused by individual behaviour.

Comments to Steve Sailer:

* Well, perhaps the solution is to abolish the ‘good character’ qualification for police recruits and allow former criminals to join. Seriously, I’ve heard this notion being discussed by the power people.
The former minimum height requirement for police officers, common to Anglo-Saxon nations was abolished because it was held to ‘discriminate’ against ethnic minorities.

* The falling crime rate was the result of the population becoming more reclusive and low trust. Furthermore, it wasn’t a good thing – the culture has become shitty and the younger generation screwed up. Times were much better from 1960-1990, and people trusted each other much more.

* In medical school we are taught to tailor our treatment based on the individual.

One example of that was how “some patients” can’t handle taking multiple medications multiple times a day because they lack the organizational ability. Everyone knows who they were referring to.

Some professions need to be a little more race realist to function.

* What protects Bratton is he’s married to a liberal LA Jewish lawyer who has been on the law faculties of Columbia and Boston University.

* Why is it such an article of faith that more black police need to be hired? Are they smarter? Less likely to be corrupt? Less likely to be brutal or trigger happy? Outperform other groups? Of course not. It’s just assumed that blacks prefer being arrested by someone that looks like them when in fact they’re just seen as agents of the man, that’s all. Can I demand that all government employees I deal with be white? Maybe blacks need to realize that they’re not living in Africa and so will have to deal with other races.
Blacks lobbying for more black cops are just looking for it to be a jobs program for them. Bending over backward to cater to those who make a career of complaining is a mistake since no matter what’s done it’s never enough. Policing is a tricky enough issue without it being politicized even more than what it is by turning it into a blatant racial spoils system.

* You ought to watch “Cocaine Cowboys”, a documentary account of (among other things) the same mass corruption of the Miami police department after desperate recruitment efforts resulted in ever-lower standards. I expect that LA followed the same path. New Orleans certainly did. NO was hiring psychopathic black cops (based on their mandatory employment psych examination) that were soon moonlighting as hitmen/enforcers.

* Ezell Ford? The LAPD is now handcuffed. Drive and wave. Ditto NYPD. Both cities are toast. Black voters want free rein to Black criminals. They are the core urban machine voters. So they get what they want as De Blasio and Garcetti care about getting reelected. Not rich people.

Even if rich people fund antI de Blasio campaigns, cops wanting to avoid prosecution and arrest for doing their job will sit eating donuts. You can’t put the toothepaste back in the tube. LAPD and NY cops know their mayors will throw them to a Black mob and saw what happened elsewhere.

In short, any city with any significant Black pop will go Detroit. Obamas ginning up Black grievance to sink Hillary and the Republican has blowback of Detroiting most cities. Even important ones.

* As we continue our march further and further into diversity and the multicult, with seemingly no end in sight, do the supporters of such policies ever connect the dots and realize all the societal problems this is causing? Stories like this occur almost daily where everything is viewed through the proverbial racial/ethnic lens. Yet rather than slow down and rethink this whole diversity-is-a-strength meme, they just double down and drive on.

Every nation has problems, but just think about nations like South Korea and Japan that don’t have to deal with this crap on a daily basis. And just think about the many European nations that spilled so much blood over the centuries to finally get somewhat of a monoculture only to throw it all away in the past couple of decades to bring this dysfunction and disharmony upon themselves.

It makes no sense especially given that the supporters of such policies pride themselves on being our intellectual betters. Anyone remotely knowledgeable about human history would know this is not going to end well.

Bad Students, Not Bad Schools

VDARE:

One of those stories where you have to laugh to keep from crying.

The Hispanic-dominated Los Angeles Unified School District Board has decided it is better to let failing students graduate with D grades rather than deny them a diploma because of their poor grades in college prep classes.

The board unanimously agreed on Tuesday that students with a D grade in so-called A-G courses, which are required for entry to the University of California and California State University systems, could graduate and earn their diploma. The Daily News reported that 51 percent of incoming seniors are behind on the courses.

Although she voted for the change, board member Tamar Galatzan was worried about the board’s action, asserting, “I am worried we are setting students up for failure because this district hasn’t gotten its act together,” according to SCPR.

[LAUSD Lowers Standards To Let 22,000 Failing Students Graduate, Some As Old As 22, by William Bigelow, Breitbart, June 10, 2015]

Here’s the classic mistake of saying the schools are to blame. But as Robert Weissberg titled one of his books, “Bad Students, Not Bad Schools.” 73.7 percent of the high schools students in the LA school system are Hispanic, and the dropout rate is 17 percent. This is more or less what you would expect.

As is always worth always pointing out, if you separate student performance by race on the 2009 Pisa Reading tests, European-Americans are actually doing quite well compared to the rest of the world, even in the “government schools.” Indeed, European-Americans are actually outperforming every White nation except Finland. The only groups measured on the test European-Americans are losing to are Shanghai-China, Korea, Hong Kong-China, Singapore… and Asian-Americans. Funny how those institutionally racist standardized tests designed to perpetuate white supremacy keep ending up with Asians on top.

But LA is now dominated by what the late Lee Kuan Yew referred to as “immigration from the fruit-pickers.” And as he warned, “You won’t get very far!”

STEVE SAILER WRITES JANUARY 1, 2008:

In the grand tradition of Ebenezer Scrooge, economist James J. Heckman, a Nobel Laureate and 2002 Statistician of the Year, says “Bah! Humbug!” to the happy-clappy statistics the federal government has been feeding us on a key omen of America`s future: high school dropout rates.

In an important paper with the bland title of The American High School Graduation Rate: Trends and Levels, [PDF] Heckman of the U. of Chicago and co-author Paul A. LaFontaine of the American Bar Association report:

“The true high school graduation rate is substantially lower than the official rate issued by the National Center for Educational Statistics.”

The Department of Education`s NCES claims that the graduation rate has been rising since back in the late 1960s, when it stood at 80 percent. [Dropout Rates in the United States: 2005]

(Note: this implies, of course, that the dropout rate back then was 20 percent: 100 percent minus the graduation rate of 80 percent equals the dropout rate of 20 percent. Heckman and LaFontaine`s study always reports the graduation rate, but I`m going to turn it around at times and look at the more arresting dropout rate.)

According to the feds, as cited by Heckman and LaFontaine:

“U.S. schools now graduate nearly 88 percent of students and black graduation rates have converged to those of non-Hispanic whites over the past four decades.”

But in fact Heckman and LaFontaine`s exhaustive study of the widest array of data sources consulted to date finds that the high school dropout rate isn`t 12 percent, but about twice that. And the racial gaps have been steady since the early 1970s.

Moreover, although the high school dropout rate improved steadily through the middle of the 20th Century, falling from 75 percent in the early 1920s to 20 percent in the late 1960s, it has worsened, by up to one-fourth, since then.

This was not expected, to say the least. The high school graduation rate should still be going up—because dropping out is ever more of a personal disaster. H&L point out:

“The U.S. high school graduation rate has declined at a time when the returns to completing high school have greatly increased.”

Dropping out of high school is a terrible way to start your life. For example, 78 percent of prisoners, but only 9 percent of new recruits allowed to enlist in the U.S. military, are high school dropouts. H&L add:

“… more than one-third of all black male high school dropouts age 20-35 were in prison on an average day in the late 1990s—a higher proportion than found in paid employment.”

This means trouble for all of America. H&L sum up:

“To increase the skill levels of the future workforce, America needs to confront a large and growing dropout problem.”

H&L`s study finds:

“The decline in high school graduation is almost exclusively concentrated among young males. The overall male graduation rate fell 7 percentage points from the first to the last cohort, while the female rate fell by only 1 point …”

And that`s bad news because males cause most of the trouble in this world.

(The college graduation rate has been improving, reaching 24 percent for men and 36 percent for women born in 1980. But even this growth has been tailing off lately as the high school graduation slump feds through. H&L comment:

“The slowdown in the high school graduation rate accounts for a substantial portion of the recent slowdown in the growth of college educated workers in the U.S. workforce… This slowdown is not due to a decline in rates of college attendance among those who graduate high school.”)

The high school dropout rate has improved a little since the passage of the No Child Left Behind act in 2001. But H&L are cynical:

“NCLB gives schools strong incentives to raise graduation rates by any means possible… Whether these represent real gains or are an indication of schools cheating the system in the face of political pressure remains an open question for future research, although the timing suggests strategic behavior.”

“Strategic behavior” is a euphemism for skullduggery.

Why is the federal government`s favored measure of high school graduation misleading? It`s biased in large part by counting as graduates those dropouts who subsequently pass the GED test (the “General Educational Development” exam, often referred to, incorrectly, as the “Graduation Equivalency Degree”.) Heckman`s earlier research shows, however, that the GED counts for less in the eyes of potential employers than does a genuine high school degree:

“Although GED recipients have the same measured academic ability as high school graduates who do not attend college, they have the economic and social outcomes of otherwise similar dropouts without certification.”

Dropouts who can pass the GED test are generally smarter than dropouts who can`t, but they tend to have poor work ethics:

“Despite measures of cognitive ability similar to high school graduates, GED recipients perform significantly worse in all dimensions when compared to them (Heckman and Rubinstein [2001]). GED recipients lack noncognitive skills such as perseverance and motivation that are essential to success in school and in life.”

Indeed, over 10 percent of all GEDs are earned in prison:

“However, minority male high school completers are almost twice as likely as white males to possess a GED certificate (Cameron and Heckman [1993]). … A significant portion of the [ethnic] convergence reported in the official statistics is due to black males obtaining GED credentials in prison.”

Needless to say, boning up for the GED is a better way to pass the time in the slammer than such popular alternatives as sharpening a shiv on your cell`s concrete floor or making Pruno wine out of ketchup in your toilet. But it likely won`t do you as much good as staying in school and out of prison in the first place.

Another major contributor to the long-term worsening in dropout rates since the late 1960s: changing ethnic ratios among young people. For example, the Hispanic share of public school students has increased from 6 percent in 1972 to 20 percent.

Dropout rates have gotten slightly worse for all groups, but I estimate that the majority of the deterioration for the country as a whole is simply because Hispanics and blacks making up a larger share of the population than they did 35 years ago.

In contrast to the federal propaganda, H&L find that the dropout rate is around 35 percent for both African-Americans and for those more assimilated Hispanics who either were born in America or have been here at least a decade.

In fact, despite somewhat higher test scores than blacks, these Americanized Hispanics still appear to leave school early at a somewhat greater rate than blacks.

H&L report that the dropout rate for all Hispanics, including recent immigrants, is significantly worse because

“… almost half of Hispanics in this [18-24] age group immigrated within the last ten years. These recent Hispanic immigrants are primarily low-skilled Mexican workers … The migration of workers with low levels of education has increased substantially over the past 40 years.…”

One of H&L`s crucial findings: the ethnic gaps are not getting better:

“In fact, we find no evidence of convergence in minority-majority graduation rates over the past 35 years.”

The H&L study carefully inspects seven massive “longitudinal” surveys that have tracked thousands of young people through their adult lives. It finds that graduation rates for blacks and Latinos improved during the 1960s, when legally segregated schooling was effectively abolished. But since then, there has been stagnation and, perhaps, slight deterioration for all three major ethnic groups.

This intractability of racial differences is something that is constantly assumed away by popular pundits who demonize anyone who suggests that these gaps might have genetic origins. “All we have to do is change the environment!”

Perhaps. But, despite 35 years of rapid changes in the social environment, nothing has happened to the dropout disparities. The only difference is that there are now far more low-performing minorities than in 1972.

With racial gaps, this is a common pattern seen across many different measures. Relative quality differences among the races languish virtually unchanged from decade to decade. But, primarily through immigration policy, we allow relative quantity to change relentlessly—in inevitably unfavorable directions.

What has the educational system been doing about the dropout problem?

In recent years, politicians keep raising the graduation requirements in theory, while giving principals and teachers incentives to lower them in practice. Many locales have piled on advanced math and other rigorous classes, plus mandatory exit exams, all the while threatening to penalize schools for their dropout rates.

The net result of all this sound and fury: dropout rates have crept upward slightly over the last generation and a half.

Our social engineers must show some humility. They must admit that they don`t have much of a clue what will help. Realistically, the best we can hope for are modest improvements.

The simplest steps are to remove the disincentives that keep students from achieving their individual potentials.

To do that, however, the educational elite must finally take into account that we don`t live in Lake Wobegon, where all the children are above average. Half of the students must be below average in intelligence.

Yet, this simple tautology is off-limits these days … because more than half of the Non-Asian Minorities (NAMs) are below average.

Thus, America`s education policy makers—ranging from school board members to the architects of the NCLB, Senator Kennedy and President Bush, and even on to the main financial backers of the meddling Gates Foundation, the hyper-intelligent billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett—seem so paralyzed by fear of being Watsoned for mentioning the Bell Curve gap in IQ that they ignore simple cause and effect reasoning.

For example, in his private business affairs, Microsoft founder Gates is notoriously preoccupied with uncovering and exploiting differences in human intelligence. Rich Karlgaard of Forbes reported:

“During that trip, I must have heard Mr. Gates mention `IQ` a hundred times.” [Microsoft`s IQ Dividend, Wall Street Journal, July 28 2004]

And yet the Gates Foundation is one of the prime funders of the Higher Flapdoodle in public education. For instance, Gates largely paid for the Aspen Institute`s Commission on the No Child Left Behind Law, which recently endorsed renewing the legislation`s nutty mandate that every single student in America test as “proficient” (i.e., above average) by 2014.

The conventional wisdom is that having a two-digit IQ is such a horrible debility that the only thing we can do for the poor bastards is never mention “IQ” in public. But that just leads to more foolish, counter-productive policies—for example, the Educational Industry`s obsession with getting students into four-year colleges because of the myth that their only options are “Yale or Jail“.

Consider how the nation`s second largest school district, Los Angeles, where over half of all NAMs drop out, is attempting to lower the dropout rate by making it harder to graduate—while simultaneously threatening school administrations with dire consequences if they don`t raise the percentage of students graduating.

The LAUSD has essentially outsourced its high school graduation requirements planning to the elite University of California, which only allows in high students who have passed its rigorous “A-G” curriculum of required courses.

A 2005 press release from the Gates Foundation trumpeted:

“In June, the LAUSD board approved a plan requiring all high school students beginning with the class of 2008 to complete a 15-course series, known as the A-G Curriculum, in order to graduate. This is the same requirement for admission to the University of California and California State University systems.”

The new A-G Curriculum requirement will mandate two years of foreign language (i.e., Spanish, as instruction in other languages are being phased out in LA).

Obviously, this is intended as a gift to Hispanic immigrants. But it will be another cross to bear for African-Americans, who have never shown much enthusiasm for learning Spanish. For example, lawyer Winston Kevin McKesson, a protégé of Johnnie Cochran who defended the rogue police officer upon whom Denzel Washington`s Oscar-winning portrayal in “Training Day” was based, told me in 2001 that only 4 out the 900 black LAPD officers speak Spanish, even though a large fraction of the witnesses and perps in LA speak only Spanish.

Worse, every public high school student in LA will have to pass not just Algebra I and Geometry to graduate, but also Algebra II.

It would be nice if each student in LA were smart enough to pass Algebra II. But they aren`t. (I wonder how many LA School Board members could pass Algebra II …)

As John Derbyshire`s recent book Unknown Quantity: A Real and Imaginary History of Algebra emphasizes, the essence of algebra is abstraction. Human beings differ wildly in their talent for abstract thinking, from Gauss at the top of the pyramid down to, well, a lot of high school students at the broad bottom.

Even a recent Gates Foundation press release admitted:

“only about 22 percent of 9th graders in the class of 2003 graduated having successfully completed the A-G curriculum.”

There`s a reason that most high school students in LA aren`t successfully completing UC prerequisites: they aren`t UC material.

By law, the UC system is reserved for the top 1/8th of California high school students.

Moreover, LA, America`s City of the Future, is the anti-Lake Wobegon. In the LA school district, no more than ten percent of entering 9th graders will, before they leave high school, score at or above the intended mean of 1000 on the SAT—Math plus Verbal, not including the new Writing test. (By the way, that would be an 890 under the pre-1995 SAT scoring system.)

Redmond, we have a problem.

The fact is that it can be rational behavior for some students to drop out now rather than wait around to be superannuated because they can`t pass their math requirements.

They get it. Why can`t the people in charge figure that out?

What would a more sensible approach to the high school dropout problem look like?

The first point to remember: not all dropouts are created equal.
Every school has a certain number of anti-students who are so disruptive that the rest of the student body would be better off without them. For the most thuggish students, the dropout rate isn`t too high—it`s too low. So schools shouldn`t be assessed negatively for every single dropout. They should be encouraged to grease the skids under their most counter-productive students.

(Most big school districts these days have “Continuation Schools” that serve as isolation pens for the most troublesome students, giving them the opportunity to continue their education online and with weekly one-on-one meetings with teachers. So, the gangbangers and the like can still get a degree if they want to, but they don`t have to drag other kids down with them.)

Second: we should be using both sticks AND carrots.
The latest educational fad—trying to terrify not-so-smart kids by threatening to flunk them out—is counterproductive. Many students quickly figure out that their odds of completing all the requirements and passing the exit exam are slim. So they give up midway through 9th grade.

It`s time to admit that four years of high school, just like four years of college, isn`t for everybody. We`ve long offered Associates of Arts degrees for passing two years of community college. Why not some kind of associate high school diploma for making it through 10th grade?

That would give the bottom tier of students a feasible goal, and then allow them to get out in the work force earlier, and with a credential telling employers they aren`t complete goofs.

For those who can benefit from four years of high school, it makes sense to give them a hierarchy of diplomas to aim for. A good model might the traditional British degree classification, where, if you avoid failing, you are awarded a First, Second, Third, or Pass degree. These finer distinctions allow students of varying levels of ability to set appropriate goals for themselves. And they let employers get a more discriminating read on a graduate`s potential.

There are many students in our public high schools for whom getting a Third would be a sizable accomplishment, a reasonable goal for which they could strive for four years. And just getting a Pass degree would at least represent to potential employers that they are reasonably diligent.

Finally: as always, when we find ourselves in a hole, it`s time to stop digging.
Letting in more unskilled immigrants is just digging ourselves a deeper hole.

Realism isn`t welcome in American public life. But the plain fact is that this blind political correctness is wrecking kids` lives.

You Get Fired For Telling The Truth

New York Times: LONDON — A Nobel laureate has resigned as honorary professor at University College London after saying that female scientists should be segregated from male colleagues because women cry when criticized and are a romantic distraction in the laboratory.

The comments by Tim Hunt, 72, a biochemist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2001 for groundbreaking work on cell division, unleashed a torrent of fury and added fuel to a global cultural debate about gender bias and discrimination against women in science.

“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls,” Mr. Hunt told an audience on Monday at the World Conference of Science Journalists in South Korea. “Three things happen when they are in the lab: You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them they cry.”

Blog: OU Featured “Sauna Bonder” Rosenblatt at Rabbinic Mentoring Events

From Frum Follies: Apparently, Executive VP Steven Weil thought otherwise when he organized the very first such event for the OU in February during the time between May 2008 when he was slated for the OU job and when he actually started in July 2009.

Los Angeles based blogger, Luke Ford, reported:

Did you hear that Rabbi Weil convened a special OU meeting/retreat last weekend in Los Angeles with six of the top rabbis in the country? What went on there? A source says: “It was a rabbinic training event for nearly – and newly – ordained rabbis. Jonathan Rosenblatt, the rabbi from Riverdale was the guest presenter.

Rabbi Weil’s decision was a serious failure on the part of the OU. Rosenblatt’s proclivity for nude sauna and shower bonding was widely known as reported in the New York Times and the Jewish Week (NY). Worse, he defended it as an ideal way to mentor younger males. Rosenblatt was not a fit mentor or a suitable model on how to mentor others.

Should We Criminalize Criticism Of Jews & The Jewish State?

There’s nothing evil about Arabs and Muslims and other groups trying to replace the Jewish state of Israel with a state more to their liking. No country or people have a right to exist. As Michael Scheuer wrote: “This writer carries no brief for Israel. All that is written and argued about ‘Israel’s right to exist’ is nonsense. Neither Israel nor the United States nor any other nation has a right to exist. A state’s ability to survive depends solely on its own social cohesion, economic viability, and domestic political, international, and military behavior and actions, not on some non-existent right the Israel-First lobby dreamed-up to use to propagandized the American people into eternally supporting a nation that is completely irrelevant — and, indeed, bloodily counter-productive — to genuine U.S. national security interests.”

Forward.com:

A 2010 State Department document provides the U.S. government’s only official definition of anti-Semitism. It is a detailed document that adds elements of anti-Israeli bias to the traditional definition of Jew hatred.

This definition — developed to help the State Department monitor anti-Semitic trends in foreign countries — is now at the center of a debate raging about its use at the University of California. Moreover, both critics and supporters of the State Department’s take on this age-old phenomenon agree that its modern-day interpretation could have implications for the way that Israel-related issues are discussed on all college campuses.

Several pro-Israel activists supported by Jewish groups and with the blessing of UC’s president, Janet Napolitano, would like to see California’s public university system adopt the State Department definition, potentially deeming many of the anti-Israel protests and actions carried out on campus anti-Semitic.

“What we are saying is that our government, in one of its agencies, already has a good way of addressing anti-Semitism and of identifying the contemporary version of anti-Semitism,” said Tammi Rossman-Benjamin, co-founder and director of AMCHA Initiative, which has been leading the UC drive. “Then why shouldn’t we use it?”

On the other side, Palestinian groups, backed by civil libertarians, argue that adopting this definition would chill protected free speech by students and faculty members, and intimidate critics of Israel.

Pro-Palestinian activists, in a letter to the State Department, argued that its definition includes “prohibitions that are so vague that they could be, and have been, construed to silence any criticism of Israeli policies.”

STEVEN COMMENTS: Antisemitic ideas are more widespread than you might imagine. Check out this recent clip of Ellen DeGeneres doing a “kids say the darndest things” sort of segment. At 4:10 into this clip, a little aspiring screenwriter tells Ellen the plot of his Indiana Jones-like script, in which a mysterious lost island is threatened by “the Jewish” who are “trying to take over the world” I wonder exactly where the little boy got that idea?

Chaim Amalek Steven, I’m about 99.9% sure that those lines were a gag inserted into the piece by writers who might well be Jews themselves.

Steven Ben-Off Abrams Possibly. You really think that was fed to the kid by one of Ellen’s writers?

Chaim Amalek Yes. Look at how she reacts. She had practiced this. Also, they put the words into the mouth of the blond haired boy because well, tow headed males are the enemy even if tykes. They were not going to have a black kid say those words.

Chaim Amalek Also, the old school Jews with clout are often tone deaf. Hence, Sheldon Adelson.

Steven Ben-Off Abrams I know its quite possible because I work in TV and know that just about everything that seems spontaneous and “real” is actually pre-scripted and fake, but I cant see the comedy value in having a little boy (who is doing a segment about how children react to 20th century technology, not about social issues) go an an Antisemitic tangent. (???!!!) It seems so bizarre to me, and so lacking in entertainment or comedy value that, in this case, I do tend to think it was spontaneous, not scripted or planned.

Chaim Amalek There is no way that no adult talked to these kids beforehand to check out that they were ready and what they would say. This was staged.

Chaim Amalek Also, he stumbled over the word “Jewish” which suggests it may have been new to him.

Steven Ben-Off Abrams Still, it’s hard to understand why anybody on the staff of the Ellen show, which trades in cutesy heartwarmingness (and definitely NOT in anything resembling edgy humor) would have written that thinking its funny or would appeal to Ellen’s audience of shut in housewives. And the idea that some paranoid Jewish Ellen writer told the kid to say that, in order to suggest ubiquitous antisemitism in kindergartners, is insanely cynical.
