From AL.com: The Southern Poverty Law Center in August launched a campaign to build an interactive map of all parks, school mascots, and streets that honor the Confederacy and its leaders.
“The Confederate flag doesn’t just represent Southern ‘heritage,’ it’s a deeply divisive symbol used by racist groups, one what was raised above state capitols in the Deep South during the civil rights movement to show that they stood for white supremacy,” said SPLC Founder Morris Dees. “There’s no place for this or other symbols of the Confederacy in our public spaces.”
The SPLC is asking people to send in names of photos of “Confederate statues or monuments; flags; government seals; patches on government uniforms; the names of parks, streets, schools, military bases or counties; school mascots; and other examples.”
The group is also preparing a “a community action guide to help local communities reach consensus on removing publicly supported symbols that represent the slave-holding South.”
As Confederate flags continue to come down from government buildings and Civil War monuments are pulled from public places, more groups are resisting the change.
The Columbia, Tenn.-based Sons of Confederate Veterans Heritage Defense Fund raised $40,000 of its $100,000 goal as it fights “the greatest threat to our heritage in modern times.”
“The radical leftists who are driving this crisis are committed to the complete eradication of all things Confederate,” the site states.

There’s nothing in Torah about modern politics and siding with the fringes against the core. There’s nothing in Torah about marching for civil rights. Jews didn’t work for blacks because they primarily cared about blacks (there’s no precedence for this in the Jewish tradition) but because they saw it (usually unconsciously) as in the self-interest of Jews that the fringes be strengthened.
When a tolerant and multi-cultural attitude clashes with Jewish self-interest, such as in the Jewish state (where the more Jewish it is, the stronger it is), the multi-cultural attitude is abandoned though its rhetoric may still be useful.
As far back as the 1990s, Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, the founder and spiritual leader of the settlement of Efrat, seized upon this outlook, declaring, “I marched with Martin Luther King and feel very strongly about equal rights.” But, to him, settlers were now the victims. “We’re not fighting against an enemy who plays by the same rules as we do,” he argued. “Given the cruelty and barbarism of the Arabs to their own people, our ethical imperative is not to commit suicide.” He went so far as to compare the settlers to African-Americans during the civil rights movement. Another American settler activist, Yechiel Leiter, drew on Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address to illustrate that “independence and freedom have their price.”
Not only is this belief still intrinsic to the self-image of many mainstream American settlers, they have also learned the value of speaking fluent liberalese on the international stage. By translating Scripture into sound bites, Jewish-American settlers have played a pivotal role in the public relations rebranding of the Israeli settler movement — and these professed liberals are now helping to deflect attention from crimes committed by Jews.

There’s almost nothing in the MSM coverage of the Syrian refugee crisis noting that there are many good reasons for wanting to keep these people out of your country.
If you want to know what a people are like, look at the country they made. If you want your country to turn into a version of Syria, import Syrians. If you want your country to turn into a version of Africa, import Africans. If you want your country to turn into a version of Mexico, import Mexicans.
Syria’s neighbors know what a disaster Syrians are, so they keep them out to the extent they can.
Washington Post: Like European countries, Saudi Arabia and its neighbors also have fears over new arrivals taking jobs from citizens, and may also invoke concerns about security and terrorism. But the current gulf aid outlay for Syrian refugees, which amounts to collective donations under $1 billion (the United States has given four times that sum), seems short — and is made all the more galling when you consider the vast sums Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. poured into this year’s war effort in Yemen, an intervention some consider a strategic blunder.

* The other thing that struck me was the odd claim that Trump is angry. I don’t pretend to know what Trump’s motivations are, but he is obviously having the time of his life. He is selling to people who are (justly) angry, but that is a different thing.

* According to Goldwag’s logic, Israel is a seething mass of poor, poorly-educated, vastly insecure, compulsive, over-compensating Jews with small penises roiling with resentment at the entire world – Americans, latinos, Chinamen, Hindus, foreigners, Masons very much included – and run by finger-pointing demagogues.

* Ann Coulter has publicly quoted Steve before. I’m especially impressed that this statement all but explicitly mentions the Jewish angle.
It would be an enormous improvement if we as a society could publicly acknowledge that Jews are like any other cultural or ethnic identity group in that they have their own strengths, weaknesses, biases, interests, etc. Get it out in the open.
It’s a wonderful thing to see a vocal philosemite like Ann Coulter speaking realistically about the Jewish role in the culture. You can criticize people without hating them.
* Maybe Jews are like the GOP. Led by a massively powerful elite who have their own agenda, and with a lot of rank-and-file who mostly just go along. But if rank-and-file Jews start thinking that the white Gentiles are not really the biggest threat, and start thinking that the elite does not really have their best interests at heart….

* Trump needs to be cautious of the neocons in the Republican party who are out to get him. Trump went on the Hugh Hewitt show and was unable to answer a question about the Mideast, a subject to which most Americans are indifferent. Hewitt is a neocon and cares more about the security of Israel than the security of America.

* It’s worse than the NYT is even capable of understanding. The present illuminates the past much more than the past illuminates the present. The all-too-clear view we have of black behavior now explains the “racism” of segregationists in the distorted view we have of back then. It’s also ironic that keeping that image of the past luridly alive in the minds of black Americans fuels black bigotry.
Such as the extreme example Bryce Williams, crazy and stupid, seizes on the Narrative and acts out; media steps in, explains his behavior naturally follows from slavery, Jim Crow, etc (indeed, his behavior is really our own fault–blowback); and a thousand more fools are radicalized and handed a rationalization both for their own failures and the ensuing actions their latent bigotry is already encouraging. Rinse and repeat.
* White Southern segregationists in the ’50′s and ’60′s tried to warn us that this social experiment wouldn’t work. From hindsight their warnings made more sense than all the preposterous propaganda we see now intended to excuse black behavior in the current, observable world.
* That was when blacks were at peak good behavior. Imagine what they would think of them now.
* Those folks on the “wrong side of history” were quite right.
* That’s exactly how I’ve been reading our “racist past” recently. It’s amazing to read the accounts of whites from the 19th century and early 20th century about blacks.
The crime, the off the handle behavior, shiftiness. They even knew enough about blacks to know not all conducted themselves in such a manner but that it was best for all to be apart.
I’ve begrudgingly come to the conclusion that Jim Crow was a response to observed behavior.
* I was talking with my wife tonight about Donald Trump and his appeal. She isn’t particularly politically aware, but even she remarked that the last 7 and a half years have seemingly made the racial problems in our country worse. Her reasoning was: well, maybe things were bad for black people 8 years ago, but their position certainly hasn’t improved, and at least people weren’t being murdered on live TV for being white.
I’d like to think that normal, blue-pilled people are starting to catch on.
* The point is that America’s racial history is meant to be a perpetual, unresolvable Weight around the neck of American society. Unresolvable, unknowable, and never meant to be resolved, but intended, as needed, to push whatever agenda The New York Times Editorial Board and Carlos Slim desire.
Anyway, The New York Times reassuringly informs the reader the “world’s war zones are all but certain to continue to churn out an extraordinary number of refugees and economic migrants in the years ahead.”
In other words, THIS is just the beginning of an ETERNAL flow of EXTRAORDINARY number of migrants and there is LITERALLY NOTHING that can be done about it; unless of course, you are Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates; South Korea; Japan; Taiwan; Singapore; China; Mexico; all of Africa and all of South America…
* When Trump was in Alabama, Dave Weigel, a reporter for the Washington Post, tweeted a transcript of a convo he had with a farmer in Alabama.
The farmer said something to the effect of ‘growing up we were taught that they’re ni***rs and there are black people’.
Of course most folks went ballistic about his use of n-word, while missing how instead of condemning all blacks he knew enough about them to distinguish between a horribly behaved underclass and other blacks.
The Southern white due to proximity has been at the forefront of race relations in this country. It’s ironic that their opinions are now ignored or condemned.
You may be wondering why Syrian and Iraqi refugees are pouring into Europe rather than into, say nearby Saudi Arabia. Well, Saudi officials planned ahead.
Although the Israelis are the most renown anti-immigrant border fence builders, which is why Hungary and Bulgaria are negotiating with Israel right now, it’s really not that arcane an art. For example, if you can build an airliner, you can build a really good fence, like Airbus is building for Saudi Arabia. In fact, fence-building is one of the oldest and most developed crafts and there are no doubt perfectly fencing contractors with a few miles of you right now, wherever you are. When people tell you it’s practically impossible or unbelievably expensive to keep out economic immigrants, they are either lying or ignorant or both.

* 900 km = 552 miles, or 28% the length of the 1954 mile US border with Mexico.
Saudi Arabia has less than 1/10th as many people as the US and less than 40% of our per capita income. Adjusted for population and income, if Saudi Arabia can afford a $3.4 billion border fence then the US should be able to afford a $92 billion fence.
An equivalent length US fence, though, would only cost $12.1 billion based on what the Saudis paid. That’s more than I expected, based on a rough guesstimate of ~$1,000 per foot (~$10 billion), and it might be more given higher pay rates for American workers, but it would be quite reasonable at even twice the price.
Funny that it’s affordable for the Saudis but not for us. I mean after all, what did we ever do that Saudi Arabia hasn’t done – besides land on the moon, defeat the empires of both Germany and Japan, invent much of the modern computer industry, and win approximately a zillion times as many Nobels?
* Fences give you time and options they give you a secure base to operate from and an area to cover. Multilayered defense like the Israelis build could and does stop actual terrorists every stinking day. I think it can stop most anybody as long as it is manned.
* An effective border fence is not a passive thing – it must be monitored and patrolled constantly at significant expense. It’s not just a fence, it’s a whole system of layered defense. You must also be willing to kill fence crossers in order to discourage future fence crossers – after a while only the most determined/crazy try so you don’t have to actually kill a lot of people, but you do have to be willing to kill a few at the beginning until people get the message. Maybe some of these victims will be sympathetic – cute little kids shot full of lead and left to bleed in the death strip. You have to be willing to see these pictures printed in the papers, on TV, etc. (unless you have the power to control the media). This requires national will. Frankly, the West no longer has that kind of will. One picture of a dead baby (0r maybe a baby deer) shot by the spring guns and they would have to tear the whole thing down. Our crisis is not one of capability or funding – we (for now at least) still have plenty of these things. It is a crisis of will.

WTF? Uh, no you don’t. You catch them. You fingerprint them and take other data. Then you return them to the other side with the stern rebuke that if they’re caught again they’ll go to jail for five years.
As part of border security a fence is only a second tier solution. Interior enforcement – denying illegals jobs, drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, public education, and other government benefits is far more important. And many of those things are well within our grasp, as we already have a very large and quite effective administrative state.
To get my kid into the local school, for example, I have to show multiple documents to prove we live within school boundaries. I have to show them every single school year. Having those bureaucrats require verification of citizenship wouldn’t take much more of their time.
* Using the cost of Israel’s border fence with Egypt, I estimate a similar fence on our southern border would cost about $5.3 billion.
* It’s a bargain at triple the price. Plus all 2,000 miles of the Mexican border don’t need an intensively patrolled fence. Half of it does though this will need to be expanded as Mexican criminal organizations find their old routes blocked off-fenced off.
Key principles of Israeli fence building are:
-see through fencing so you can see infiltrators coming
-parallel patrol road for immediate armed response to intrusions
-remote sensors and cameras
-countless miles of razor wire to slow down intruders
-they do erect walls in urban areas but 90% of the West Bank security barrier is a patrolled see-through fence
Donald Trump always calls it a wall but the best barrier on the Mexican border would copy the Israeli and Saudi fences. They have shown the way. Just bring in the best Israeli and Saudi/Airbus consultants and start building within a month or two.
Similar to the way Trump got the Wolman skating rink in Central park rebuilt in three months (1986) after NYC wasted five years and millions of dollars. Trump went to the foremost builder of outdoor skating rinks in Canada and hired them to build the correct size refrigeration units (two of them) and to supervise the proper laying of coolant pipe and concrete.
* One of the tests of every law should be “is this important enough to kill people over if you have to in order to enforce the law?” For example, in NY , the police ended up killing a Gentle Giant (TM) when they arrested him for selling onesies (single cigarettes) on the street. This shouldn’t have been a crime in the first place (and you should be able to buy a whole pack of cigarettes in a regular store for a buck, which is what they would cost if the government hadn’t gotten involved). But once you make the decision to make this a law, then breaking the law involves law enforcement and sometimes law enforcement ends up killing people who refuse to obey the law. It’s inevitable even if you don’t have killing people as your primary goal.
Smuggling people across the border (in the US and in Europe) is a multi-billion $ business – almost as big as the drug business (and you have to be able to breach the border in order to smuggle drugs also). The people who are involved in this business are hardened criminals who are willing to kill people, including often their own customers. They are not going away easily. You are going to need to use violence to counter their violence.
The idea that you can “just arrest them” is not going to work. As Whiskey said, the border police can easily be outnumbered by masses of immigrants. Sure a patrol can arrest one lone crosser but what if 1,000 rush the border all at once? The reason the E. Germans ended up with spring guns is because they knew their own border patrolmen didn’t have the heart to shoot civilians, women, children, etc. Automatic guns don’t care. As I said before, once you install these you really don’t have to kill a lot of people – the total # killed by the E. German system over 30+ years was tiny (esp. compared to the millions that died in WWII – a cold war was much better than a hot war). Anyone in his right mind stays well away from the “death strip” and by the time you have reached that zone you have gone thru razor wire, etc. so you don’t just wander in there by accident.

Rabbi Sacks says Europe must take in these Muslim refugees because Holocaust.
He doesn’t say anything about Israel needing to take in these refugees.
He pushes diversity on the goyim while keeping the benefits of cohesion to Jews.
I’m not sure his prescriptions is good for Jews in Europe. Why would they want more people around them who hate Jews? The most vicious anti-Semitism in Europe comes from Muslims (who I don’t blame for hating Jews, it is in their group interest to do so).

* This article mentions another piece of land that’s underpopulated: the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt hasn’t done anything constructive with it, since winning it back from Israel during the Camp David Accords, and it’s actually a headache for Egypt now, as it’s been infiltrated by radical Muslims.
Egypt should offer the Sinai as a home for Syrian refugees. Egypt would get a lot of diplomatic goodwill for doing so, it would get a tar baby off of its hands, and it would cash in, as EU and UN money flowed into the region to subsidize the refugees.
* Our one-sided alliance with Israel could end up bearing some fruit if we can get some of those engineers over here helping us build the wall of Trump! Bring it on!

* People want to blame Jews for their own faults. Its typical scapegoating. Israel is beset by Open Borders elites. The Tel Aviv Bubble says the same thing about Israel: “we are a nation of immigrants,” and “we have to get used to a non-Jewish majority state,” that the equivalent Jewish bubble says in the Upper East Side, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica, and the tony parts of Venice.
Its just that the elites in Israel are on the razor’s edge. They don’t have the margin that Merkel has to take in 800,000 a year. So they build fences. And ignore the Tel Aviv bubble.
Indeed, most Jews in the US are softly anti-Israel. That is a function of being an elite in the bubble. And being so absorbed in SWPL culture they’d rather their distant cousins in Israel get nuked than say things nasty about Muslims or Iran or Obama forbid, the LightWorker himself, that spiritually advanced being, the racial redeemer.
Fences are good for keeping out a mob. Not so good against an organized military force. That does not mean fortifications are useless, just against a really good military opponent likely only to slow not stop an assault. Example: the Egyptians in 1972 in the Yom Kippur War used hoses drawing water from the Suez Canal to knock down the sand berm fortifications the Israelis thought (rightly) impervious to shelling. But not to streams of water.
Needless to say masses of refugees are by definition not a military force. So they are effective. Against the Turkish military if it wanted to reconstitute the Ottoman Empire? Not so much.
* My sense is that the lefty American Jews who are pro-open borders (e.g., Matt Yglesias, Noah Smith) don’t care much about Israel. I asked Smith once, and he said it wasn’t in the top few countries he cared about (the U.S., Japan, and South Korea were all of more concern to him). And, on the other hand, young, righty American Jews (e.g., Ben Shapiro, Dan Horowitz) seem to be pro-Israel but also border hawks here.
Old American Jewish billionaires Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban support Israel, of course, but are they big advocates for open borders here? Just glancing at their philanthropy on Wiki, it doesn’t seem to be on the radar screen for them much either way.
* Murray spends an inordinate amount of time sucking up to David Brooks and Jonah Goldberg. Check out his twitter timeline. It’s embarrassing. He’s done impressive work on IQ and social stratification, etc., but it doesn’t follow that he’s anti-immigration. He’s also a libertarian. The Open Boarders stuff isn’t something that irks him, rather it’s par for the course. Acknowledging IQ differences doesn’t make someone automatically pro-American, nor does it prevent them from being a rabid Israel- firster. He doesn’t say much on foreign policy, but it’s clear he’s happy hobnobbing with the Kristol crowd.
