Comments to Steve Sailer:

* And to think the Andy Reid is in the top half of NFL coaches. Of course, about 1/3 of coaches get fired every year, so that is not saying much.

Clock management, penalties, etc., are what separate the Patriots from most other teams. The Patriots don’t beat themselves by doing stupid stuff.

* They also exploit an inefficient market that undervalues White players.

* Do a jury trial solo sometime, and see how you feel about the time management of Reid, Garrett, et al. Those guys have a lot of stuff going on — other decisions to make, people talking to them, etc. We at home are looking constantly at a screen that has the score and a clock on it.

Still, letting the clock run from 2:00 to 1:26 on one play that gained like 3 yards is almost unbelievable.

* That one has been removed, but right now his position (under his photo) is given as “horrible clock manager.”

* Andy Reid is a very good professional football coach but time-management has been an albatross around his neck since his first year.

Reid inherited a talented but dysfunctional team in Kansas City that went 2-14 the year before he took over. That year was mainly known for LB Jovan Belcher murdering his girlfriend in the presence of his own mother and then driving to the Chief’s practice facility and committing suicide in front of team management and coaches.

Reid took over and straightened the organization out. But he still can’t figure out the 2 minute drill!

Reid’s own life is sort of interesting. He is a native of LA like our host Steve Sailer. His mother was a medical doctor and his father an artist employed as a painter with the movie studios.

Like most high-school football players from LA, he desperately wanted to play for a PAC 10 team. He failed to receive a scholarship and opted to go the JUCO route hoping to improve and maybe receiving an offer from his dream school, UCLA.

Reid did well at JUCO but no PAC-10 scholarship was offered. Reid accepted a scholarship from Brigham Young Univ and learned to love the passing game. He also met (or was steered toward) a pretty co-ed and married her and converted to Mormonism.

Reid has 5 or 6 children and 2 sons became pill/heroin junkies while growing-up in the swank Main Line suburbs of Philly. One son eventually died of an overdose.

* Sitting on my couch watching a football game, I’m a wizard at clock management, but that’s largely because my head is empty of all concerns about things like what play to run, much less which linemen should be on the field.

* Yeah, but coordinators and position coaches take care of specifics like that. Andy Reid’s gameday responsibilities don’t include micromanaging OL substitutions, if any are needed. Unless a head coach acts as his own OC or DC (or special teams coach), his main specific responsibility during the game is managing the clock, timeouts, and challenges. (Plus, of course, general strategy; i.e., you get the ball in your own end with 50 seconds left in the first half – do you press to try to get into FG range or just try to get to halftime without having to punt or turn it over? – the head coach, usually, decides the strategy and then it’s the playcaller’s job to decide the specifics of how to achieve the HC’s goal).

* You also don’t have to worry about getting knocked flat by a wayward running back or wide receiver.

* Heard it said problem with unsuccessful football coaches is they watch a lot of plays on tape but don’t really watch football games, nor grasp how the ebb and flow of a football game work and play out. As a Jets fan, seen that play out vs, the Pats at least once and usually twice every season. Reid’s team was down 2 scores most of the 2nd half and he ran an offense that seemed oblivious to the desperation his team’s situation demanded.

* Time management is an issue when the team is on defense too (e.g., when to take timeouts, etc.), so it can’t be solely the offensive coordinator’s job. Picking Ben McAdoo as head coach made sense: the offense has put up good numbers, and Eli has had the best stats of his career with him at OC. The team’s main problem has been a weak defense, including a former top pass rusher who blew off part of his hand.

* As the NFL is becoming more and more stats oriented a la moneyball sabermetrics, there has been talk that a coach can simply hire a “clock management expert”. In other words, NFL coaches would rely upon an expert who, based on analysis/stats/computer models/etc. would make the sole decision of when to call time out, or at least how to manage the clock better during the last few minutes of the game.

And the coaches should be bound to follow the clock management experts advice; he would be speaking for the GM if not for ownership. Take the clock management decisions out of the coaches’ hands and let them concentrate on helping to execute the actual on field plays (of which most coaches don’t even call anymore in this day and age).

This is certainly one aspect of the NFL, namely clock management, where a Bill James could be useful. And let his decision be final, even if that means overruling the coach. After all, time saved = more plays to run to potentially win the game.

* NFL Head Coach is a difficult job in part because of its multi-faceted nature. Reid is good in the CEO role but he is God awful at clock management. He needs help badly. Saturday’s game was a replay of SB XXXIX.

* The Patriots are the better team now that they have their receiving corps back. They deserved to win. And even with the poor clock management, if the last pass has caromed to a Chief instead of to Edelman for the first down, the Chiefs would have had a minute to move down field with good field position. The time management wasn’t AS egregious as the commenters made it out to be.

* Andy Reid’s clock management problems are so bad because they are so basic and so fixable. That shows you that he isn’t a top-tier NFL coach. I’m betting that getting in the last 5 minutes of a close claim Reid tends to freeze up, and people have a difficult time getting a response from him. His amygdala just must be overloaded and he just shuts down. Too much information.

Clock management is a basic skill for a coach, so the fact that Reid sucks at it is so glaring since he’s so good everywhere else. And, as I said, so fixable. Either practice the shit outta 2 minute drills or hire a guy who gets the players hustling and barks a lot in the last 5 minutes of a game. C’mon, this isn’t rocket science here; this is like having a bad kicker or a slow quarterback, the problem can be managed.

It’s quite clear now that Reid just considers football coaching a job and not something he’s passionate about. A passionate coach would be obsessed with fixing this problem and hire someone to train him or work on it. A coach who just considers this a job would either be too stubborn to admit it or not care enough (“hey, I make the second or third round of the playoffs consistently, why worry?”)

It reminds me how Reid never saw the greatest NFL game ever until a reporter asked him to give his thoughts on it. You can bet top-tier coaches like Belichick and Coughlin were watching that game as assistant coaches and taking notes, just for the football nerdiness of it all.

They were mentioning on the broadcast how Reid and Belichick were friends in the offseason. The reporters painted this as two equals respecting each other’s work. I think Belichick treats Reid as his retarded little cousin who occasionally comes up with a good play that Belichick steals and makes better.

* Andy Reid needs to shed at least 70 pounds then his mind will be sharper. His mind is pooping out in the final minutes. I’ll bet he doesn’t make these time management screw-ups when the first half is winding down. He is fresher.

* The time management wasn’t AS egregious as the commenters made it out to be.

Yes, it was, as they took forever to get plays off from the 6:00 mark down. The QB was lackadaisical, and so was the HC & OC. Lots and lots of time wasted while down two scores.

And to some of the others here: What was done to Reid’s Wiki page wasn’t vandalism, it was an attempt to accurately describe the biggest weakness Reid has as a HC. Currently the word “clock” doesn’t appear on Reid’s Wiki page at all, which is an example of history being sanitized for the benefit of those in power. And that’s a worse misrepresentation of the truth than the so-called vandalism.

* How is Alex Smith getting a pass here? I recall McNabb rightfully getting killed for his role in Eagles’ loss to the Patriots — especially from Terrell Owens, who was imploring him in the huddle to pick up the pace.

The Patriots have a huge advantage with Belichick, who understands the clock implications of every play. He also relies on his old prep school roommate, Ernie Adams, as his in-game advisor. Adams is to football what Bill James would to be to baseball, if he’d been an insider, rather than a writer/analyst from day one.

The Inevitability of Eugenics

Chaim Amalek writes: “The Chinese will fully embrace it, as they are a very practical people. In 75 years one will be able to go to a fine restaurant in China and order a white fetus, complete will red hair, to dine on and no one will think it odd.”

Fred Reed writes:

Mention of eugenics inevitably results in whoops of horror, gnashing of hair, rending of teeth, and discussion of Hitler. Occasionally, however, matters of importance merit discussion even if they lead to Hitler. If by “eugenics” is meant both the selective breeding of humans and genetic manipulation of ourselves, we will shortly have to discuss it, Fuehrer or no Fuehrer. Google on “Designer babies.”

To the gnashers and renders, eugenics always involves the killing of genetically inferior children, preferably by uniformed Nazis. A better term for this might be “first-degree murder.” Usually it would be.

On the other hand, medical ambiguities exist. What does one do in the case of genetically-related anencephaly? These babies, literally having no brain, can perhaps be kept alive forever at enormous expense, but nobody is there. What is the correct policy?

Eugenics can mean many things other than the killing of defective babies. Many of us already practice an informal, jackleg, shade-tree eugenics. If kids at CalTech, who are very highly selected for intelligence, marry each other partly in hopes of having intelligent children, this is eugenics. How terrible is it? (Oh god, I shouldn’t have said that. We’ll end up with federally mandated genetic affirmative action.)

In a sense, the concentration of high intelligence in good universities and elsewhere, where marriage almost certainly will occur, amounts to inadvertent eugenics. In general, the bright seek each other out. Eugenics.

Other examples can be found. If a couple discover that they are genetically likely to have hemophiliac children,, and to adopt or use a sperm bank, they engage in eugenics. Should they be prevented from doing this?

A woman who goes to a sperm bank and asks for an intelligent donor is practicing eugenics. Is this not completely her business?

All of the foregoing are informal and pretty much under the radar. However, anyone who even casually follows the technical literature knows that we are rapidly approaching the point of being able to manipulate human genetics at the level of DNA. The thing to watch is what is being done with animals, such as the production of super-strong dogs in China by excising the gene for myostatin.

(CNN)”In a medical breakthrough that is as terrifying as it is extraordinary, scientists in China say they have created dogs that are twice as strong as they would be naturally, through genetic engineering.”

The pooches above are proof of principle. What can be done sometimes, sort of, and riskily in animals today will one day be possible with humans, safely. It is a classic case of not whether but when, and “when” is “real soon.” When “when” arrives, what then? (If you like technoglop, this on CRISPR research at CalBerkeley.)

The progression can be guessed. The advocates (who will not call it “eugenics”) will first argue for the elimination of genetic diseases. It will be hard to argue against the idea. Such things as sickle-cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, and hemophilia have limited charm.

Next (I think) will come calls for the elimination of genes correlated with cancer, macular degeneration, atherosclerosis, and so on at great length. These too could go away without generating torrents of nostalgia.

Eliminating genetic errors will quickly be accompanied by calls for re-engineering the genome for desirable traits: athleticism, superb vision, and….

Intelligence. Uh-oh.

Here is where things will get sticky. Or begin to. There will be worse.

Intelligence beyond question is largely genetic. Yes, I know: The politically correct argue that intelligence doesn’t exist, and they are themselves compelling evidence for the thesis. Most people who actually have brains think that intelligence is a good thing.

Here uneasiness at Playing God enters the picture. Preventing disease seems pretty much like a vaccination. Nothing wrong with that. Editng ourselves for better hearing or athleticism? Maybe a bit creepy but, well, what’s wrong with having a better jump shot? Intelligence, though….

If increased intelligence meant ten or fifteen points of additional IQ, maybe not too much would happen. But if we designed people with IQs of 300, or mean IQs of 300, they would presumably regard the rest of us as little more than pets. I do not know where the upper bound of genetically engineered intelligence might lie. I don’t think anyone else knows either. It is certain that IQs extreme by our standards would instantly dominate the race. Given humanity’s instinctive immersion in corruption, egotism, psychopathy, war, slaughter, totalitarianism, torture, murder and thievery, caution might be advisable in producing people better than we are at these things. It could be a case of finding out what you asked for after getting it.

Here we encounter other thorny problems. A great deal of evidence suggests that behavior is substantially genetic in origin: twin studies, the ease of breeding dogs to be aggressive or pacific, similarities of neural responses in conservatives and other responses in liberals. This would explain why blacks, whites, Jews and the Chinese have exhibited their characteristic personalities over milennia and most of the planet.

Would we then design people to have desirable behavior? Who would decide what was desirable? The virtuous at NPR would want nice, sensitive people with an appreciation of diversity, safe spaces, and opposition to guns, along with an inability to recognize reality. Conservatives would want stern, wary people yearning to fight to the death against nonexistent threats.

Predictably, militaries already are salivating at the thought of phenomenally strong soldiers with Terminator characteristics: (Daily Mail) supertroops who could run over large distances while carrying extremely heavy loads, go for days without sleep, and so on.

Militaries attract men who seem to be genetically disposed to war and to subclinical paranoia, much in the manner of dogs who are alarmed by every passing stranger. The said genetically-modified soldiers would of course need the pugnacity of pit-bulls, and the Pentagon, which sees existential threats in pretty much everything, will warn that we have to develop such myrmidons as otherwise the Chinese will do it first. A psychopathy gap will loom.

Chaim Amalek: “Every time I see a white QB fall, I think of the fall of the White race.”

Ilana Mercer writes:

Donald Trump’s mortal enemies in mainstream politics and media have shifted strategy. In the ramp-up to the Iowa, February 1 Caucuses, the culprits have been pushing presidential hopefuls Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio onto a defiant Republican base. The Cartel has taken to discussing Trump as a nightmare from which they’ll soon awaken. Candidate Trump’s energetic, politically pertinent speeches, and near daily rallies—packed to the rafters with supporters—are covered by media only to condemn this or the other colorful altercation. Ted Cruz, we‘re being lectured, is poised to topple Trump in Iowa.

But what do you know? On the eve of January 12, as if in recoil to the concentrated toxicity of Barack Obama’s last State of Disunion address, featuring the divisive Nikki Haley in the GOP’s corner, Trump punched through the lattice of lies. The media-political-complex was caught trousers down again. National polls have Trump at 36 percent, Reuters at 39 percent. A CBS/NYT poll placed him 17 points ahead of Ted Cruz, his closest rival. In Iowa, Trump leads Cruz 28 to 26 percent.

The central conceit that currently defines media’s self-serving surmises is that the Trump Revolution is confined to the Right and is thus self-limiting. While the Right is always more courageous in bucking sclerotic authority, the Trump Revolution isn’t exclusively Republican or rightist.

I get the distinct impression that this Revolution encompasses Left and Right; Democrats, Republicans and Independents. As The Atlantic magazine cautioned, the polls are underestimating Trump’s support. The slow kids of media have yet to discover the methodological flaws inherent in survey methodology. Subjects are more likely to reply truthfully in anonymous, online surveys than in face-to-face or telephonic questionnaires. As if to confirm that Trumpites are coming out of the closet, a January 13, YouGov.com poll, courtesy of the Washington Examiner, catapulted Mr. Trump to near 50 percent.

Something else has made the special-needs media boil with bile: It’s the role of America’s much-maligned, white majority—65 percent and rapidly declining—in Trump’s meteoric ascent. Trump’s supporters are disenfranchised whites, left, right and center (or in an ideological no-man’s land). The silent majority that dare not speak its name—other than to flagellate for collective sins and perceived privilege—is still the largest demographic bloc in the US.

Working class whites, in particular, have been led down a political cul-de-sac.

Omitted at last year’s November 10, Fox Business, presidential debate were two loudly whispered secrets. The one was Marco Rubio’s expensing the Republican Party for personal spending. The other: Terrifying data that a large segment of white America was … dying.

“Mortality among middle-aged Americans with a high-school degree or less increased by 134 deaths per 100,000 people between 1999 and 2013,” wrote Olga Khazan of The Atlantic. Mortality among working-class white Americans has risen by half a percent a year. “That means ‘half a million people are dead who should not be dead.’” Since these whites are dying from “suicide, alcohol and drug poisonings, and alcohol-related liver disease,” Khazan concluded sadly that, “Middle-aged white Americans are dying of despair.” Otherwise, nobody has probed deeper than to advance reductive economic and educational causes.

My sense is that, “while Americans in their 40s and 50s don’t have enough money saved for retirement,” there’s more afoot than money.

Most of us have come across emaciated, gaunt, poor white men and women in our communities; middle-aged, often younger whites standing on the curb, begging for change. Indeed, we members of the informal, White Lives Matter movement notice that poor whites in America are very badly off.

But a political whiteout prohibits the candid discussion of their plight. Unless they’re being dubbed throw-away racists, bigots, or has-beens who can’t let go of white privilege—white, working-class America is invisible. It has been so for decades.

Consider what befell Martin O’Malley, Democrat for president, at the Netroots Nation conference, in Phoenix. “Black lives matter, black lives matter,” activists chanted at O’Malley, who dared to respond with the catchphrase, “Black lives matter. White lives matter. All lives matter.”

The maniacal reaction to O’Malley’s truism was so vociferous, that soon he and the Democrats were denouncing the notion that all lives mattered, and apologizing to blacks for daring to imply that white lives mattered, too. A weak Bernie Sanders was practically chased off a Seattle stage by two Black Lives Matter women, and has since been silent about poor whites, except to promise proxy wars on Walmart and Wall Street.

Politically, at least, white lives are forfeit.

How Would a Billion Immigrants Change the American Polity?

A Billion Immigrants: Continuing the Conversation
SEPTEMBER 23, 2015 NATHAN SMITH

My recent post, “How Would a Billion Immigrants Change the American Polity?” attracted a fair amount of attention, most recently an article in the Washington Examiner with the deliciously intriguing headline “Open Borders Would Produce Dystopia, says Open Borders Advocate.” The headline, which somewhat misrepresents the more balanced article by Michael Barone that appears beneath it, is a crude caricature yet in its way bracingly lucid, for it points to what I think this debate has clarified, namely, that the chief difference between open borders advocates and their critics lies not in what they foresee but in how they assess it. …

Nathan Smith is an assistant professor of economics at Fresno Pacific University. He did his Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University.

Fresno is a good place from which to get an inkling of what Open Borders has in store for America.

Fresno is much more eye-opening than the lavishly taxpayer-subsidized D.C. Deep State suburbs where George Mason U. is located.

Alternatively, Salinas, California might be an instructive model for the servant society of the future. Unlike Fresno, which is far away from rich people, Salinas is only 22 miles from Carmel-by-the-Sea, but it’s tucked away from the coast so it doesn’t trouble rich people’s sightlines.

COMMENTS:

* Bringing in a billion 3rd worlders with a average 80 IQ would be a political, economic and ecological nightmare. The U.S. would cease to exist.

Not that you’d ever find a economist who cares about that that, given that most are no more court astrologers for the wealthy and powerful.

The reason why the wealthy support open borders is because it destroys the value of labor and human right and makes them wealthier in the process.

And that’s what matters. In fact it’s the defining factor in this years presidential race. Where we have a bunch of open borders globalists vs. the solitary nationalist who wants to build a wall and impose tariffs.

* I’ve said in jest the quickest way to end the left’s cries of “racism” in criminal justice is, as a condition of parole and probation, to force parolees and and probationers to live in specialized housing located only in the richest blue-voting areas of their state. That would end a lot of opposition to the state being “tough on crime.”

* Nathan Smith: “Now, migration restrictions involve doing terrible things to people. US immigration enforcement separates thousands of parents from their children by force ever year. European coast guards are culpable for a mounting toll of migrant deaths at sea, and so on. These things simply must stop.”

As Voxday explains, “SJW’s always lie.” Illegal aliens could share happy family lives with their children in their own countries, forever undisturbed by “US immigration enforcement,” but choose instead to mistreat their own children out of recklessness or greed. European coast guards don’t kill migrants at sea,* rather smugglers and migratory muslims kill migrants at sea– and no economic migrants would die if they just stayed home!

Australia stopped “these things” quite “simply” by stopping the boats and refusing Australian residence to illegal migrants.

*Perhaps Smith is right to blame European coast guards for migrant deaths, but only because the politicians in charge of European coast guards have invited migrants to use them as free ferry services– sending boats to pick up migrants who paddle out from the North African coast in dinghies which they capsize deliberately when they see European coast guard vessels, which then transport said migrants to the SJW paradise of welfare payments for unemployable rapists.

* Neal Stephenson’s sci-fi novel “Snow Crash” is an interesting thing because different people describe its picture of a privatized future America run by corporations and ethnic groups as either “dystopian” or “utopian.”

* America is finished, kaput. Its future is a slightly improved Latin America mixed with Hong Kong. I don’t even know why so many want to immigrate to that doomed country.

Maybe Australia and New Zealand can keep the Anglosphere going on. (Canada also isn’t going to survive, their multiculturalization is happening even faster than in the US, considering that it was 95% white just 30 years ago and now it’s 25% non-white)

I have more faith that Germany, Italy or even Spain (not France, France is fucked as well) will survive as nations in the 22nd century than the US (at least, a recognizably Anglo US).

The fact is that this so-called “globalization” or world immigration in such a large scale is in many ways a new phenomenon, thanks in large part to technology, but also to a certain mentality, and if White-Europeans want to survive, they need to adapt.

Maybe they need to become like Jews and find ways to avoid assimilation, or maybe they need to become nazis and build walls and shoot people, or if not find other ways to isolate themselves from the dark masses, perhaps become like the Amish, I don’t really know, but whatever they are doing now, is not working.

*

People in Salinas are very good at starting things—launching new campaigns or programs, building new things. But finding the public resources to maintain them has been harder. Driving around town, you can see how Salinas is littered with public institutions it couldn’t quite sustain. A golf course that had to be taken over by First Tee. A public swimming pool that had to be taken over by a private aquatic club. (It’s still open to the public, but at limited hours and for a fee). A performing arts center that is now occupied by a charter school. At police headquarters, a cop tells me how the gang unit is being disbanded so that the understaffed department can have enough people.

What’s your beef? Salinas is a Libertarian paradise! All the moocher institutions have been privatized and the police are on patrol instead of coaching midnight basketball!

All kidding aside, California cities full of Mexicans are likely to exhibit the famous Mexican pattern of starting, then abandoning public works. Mexico is littered with crumbling buildings which were supposed to be public amenities but now house squatters or shelter goats. Mexican politicians love ribbon-cutting ceremonies so they spend their budgets all on construction, not operations– indeed, a lot of individual Mexicans behave the same way.

* Mainland China has several underpopulated ghost towns with beautiful high rise 1st World looking apartment buildings. But most of the locals can not afford to purchase or rent an apartment in these areas.

This is how you know Mainland China is still not a fully developed 1st World Country. The per capita purchasing power of the average Mainland Chinese household is still far below that of White Western nation households.

I doubt Mainland China will ever become a 1st World Country. Too much government corruption combined with the average Mainland Han Chinese IQ being quite low.

The only reason it seems like the average Mainland Han Chinese IQ is so high to us Americans is because we get their cream of the crop minority elite. But average Mainland Han Chinese IQ is closer to that of Filipinos than it is to Ashkenazis, Italians and Anglo Saxon Protestants for example.

Poverty in Mainland China makes Appalachian poverty look middle class in comparison.

* It’s interesting how the age of mass migration from poor countries to rich countries has been paralleled by a widening economic gulf between rich and poor countries. In the 1950s, when the West has much tighter immigration politices, the gap between the West and the rest was much less than it is today.

However, our elites seem to be of the view that increasing immigration to the west will somehow reduce third world poverty. No one seems to consider the opposite possibility – that immigration from the third world to the West increases poverty in the third world, without benefiting the West much either.

As we’ve gone from a nationalist to an internationalist world, we’ve stopped looking for national solutions to national problems and turned them into global problems requiring global solutions (everyone loves talking global). Now every country’s problems – be they economic, demographic, ethnic, environmental or law and order issues are somebody else’s problem.

* Can you imagine how safer hoverboards would be if they were being built by White people instead of the Chinese. There would definitely be way less incidents of them catching fire.

But since it is a lot cheaper for companies to pay Chinese people instead of Whites to built these things, hoverboards will never be made in White countries.

Since China has a larger labor workforce due to their 1 billion plus population, they can make more hoverboards in mass bulk.

The Chinese are all about creating quantity, not quality.

* The Left says that more Vibrant Diversity equals more options when it comes to food, but Vibrant DIEversity also equals more cases of food poisoning in the U.S.

The two times in my life where I got food poisoning, one was from a Mexican restaurant and the other from a Korean restaurant.

I have never gotten food poisoning from a restaurant that serves European cuisine like Italian, French, German, and Greek.

* Libertarians argue that western countries are better at employing people to produce wealth, so people in poorly run countries should move to and work in western countries where they will be more productive.

Question: wouldn’t it be more efficient if western countries just ran poor countries directly and made everyone there more productive without them having to move?

Since this would be so beneficial, shouldn’t Pakistan just say “please American, please run our country for us?” Why are there no candidates in any poor countries running on this platform?

* What this guy wants is to change the US into a microcosm of the planet. Different races would compete with each other, each forming its own enclave. He talks about the resultant rise of private security companies. These would be just armies in embryo. Isn’t this exactly how the world divided into separate states in the first place?

All mass immigration would do is reboot history by importing all the different nationalities and replaying their conflicts on American soil.

* There’s a weird new race consciousness in the air.

Today, here in the Bay Area, I had a conversation with an old friend (an American-born East Indian Hindu) about German/European immigration policies. He looked me straight in the eye and said, “You people are idiots!”

He was suddenly talking to me as a white person. I guess Merkel’s making us all look stupid.

* Mexico is a New World nation blessed with many resources, two large coastlines and a nice climate. It is the only nation with free trade access to both the US and EU markets. It should be a destination for immigrants like the British-founded New World nations. Instead it is the largest source nation of immigrants to the US, sending almost as many immigrants in 35 years as the next two largest source nations have sent in four hundred years. Large immigration waves from such a nation should not be happening. It speaks volumes to the nation they have created.

* Studies have repeatedly shown the average IQ of mainland Han Chinese to be around 105, which is slightly lower than Chinese-Americans but higher than any white gentile group. The Chinese are the Jews of Asia, dominating the elite in every country where they are found in significant numbers. Outside the People’s Republic, the places where Han Chinese form a majority (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore) are wealthy, first-world countries.

Poverty in China has nothing to do with IQ and everything to do with communism. And before communism, the Japanese, and before the Japanese, centuries of emperors who cut off all contact with the “barbarian” outside world.

* I once ate lunch at a Burger King in Salinas, almost ten years ago.

The vinyl cushions in all of the seats were green, red and white (like Mexico’s flag) and mariachi music was playing over the loudspeaker.

Good times.

* I wonder why libertarian economists seek tenured positions. Shouldn’t they be selling their ideas in the free market?

Why Did The Plague Of Darkness Only Affect The Egyptians And Not The Jews?

I was reading Rashi’s interpretation that the reason for the Plague of Darkness was so that the Jews could enter the homes of the Egyptians without detection and record the placement and quality of their valuables.

Rabbi Ephraim Buchwald writes:

Rashi also cites a second interpretation, maintaining that it was during the days of darkness that the Israelites went in to their Egyptian masters’ houses to examine their property. After the tenth plague, when the time came for the Israelites to leave Egypt, the Israelites went to their masters and asked for their vessels. If the Egyptians denied having any, the Israelite would say, “I saw it in your home, and this is where it may be found!” Others attempt to place a more favorable spin on this explanation, by saying that the Jews were now in a position to say to their masters, “We know that you have all these vessels, we saw them during the darkness, and yet we didn’t take them.” So impressed were the Egyptians by the Israelites’ honesty, that they voluntarily gave their precious belongings to the Israelites.

This horrifies me. Yes, the Jews had a moral right to compensation from the Egyptians for their years of torment and slavery, but the idea of God sending a plague of darkness so that the Jews could surreptitiously enter the homes of the Egyptians and make a record of their valuables that they could later claim for themselves is just not a Protestant way of looking at things. I was raised a Seventh-Day Adventist. The idea of entering someone’s home without permission and making a list of their expensive belongings is repellent. I would feel aghast at even leaning on a car not mine parked on a public street. Even if the Jews were morally justified in entering the Egyptians’ homes to find out what good stuff they have, it’s still an awful thing to do and a morally corrupting thing to do.

The Correlation Between Looks & Brains

A professor tells me: “Sometimes I make decisions about whether I like students or not immediately based on their appearance. I do it all the time actually. It’s not that I like the more attractive ones more either. I call it a sixth sense. I just know who’s more likable and I would swear to you that I know who is smart based on appearance. For instance, many students were on my waitlist. I turned most of them away, but then another asked to add today and I liked something about him so I said yes. Just now I received one of the most articulately written emails from him I’ve ever received. I was right.”

Is it a mitzvah for a Jew to try to save the white race?

Chaim Amalek” “Very tough question. Unless you have concluded that the survival of Eretz Yisroel depends on a healthy white race.”

* What does uncuck mean? “It means thinking like a Jew when a Jew is thinking about Jews.” (Chaim Amalek)

* I cannot decide which I should spend my time on: further study of the Talmud, especially its teachings on who bears the loss when a cow falls in a hole on a neighbor’s property, or saving the white race from Merkelism.

* Should I save the cow or the goy?

* Chaim Amalek: “Let the goy deal with his problems. We Yidden must worry about ours, like paying for the kids’ yeshiva tuition.”

* On my deathbed, I’m going to really really discover God.

Chaim Amalek: “If I ever discover God, I’m going to patent Him and drive everyone insane with my nuisance law suits.”

* If there is just one thing I hope to get out of Shabbos, it is probative value.

* Friend: “I had Indian economists working for me for $11,000 a year. They were diligent and great. And they were happy to make that money. Competition is now global.”

* Jews make great lawyers. Meek and mild Seventh-Day Adventists not so much. You need an aggression beyond what I learned at Avondale College.

* Please desist from any comments that can create prejudice that greatly outweighs any probative value.

* Please be advised that although you may view me as just a humble servant of the Truth, I am also a mighty warrior for justice. California Evidence Code Section 352 states: “The Court in its discretion may preclude evidence if its probative value is substantially outweighed by the probability that its admission will (a) necessitate undue consumption of time or (b) create substantial danger of undue prejudice or of confusing issues or of misleading the jury.” Govern yourselves accordingly.

* I fear that most of the comments on here are more prejudicial than probative, pursuant to Evidence Code Section 352. Evidence Code Section 350 provides that no evidence is admissable except relevant evidence, meaning evidence having a tendency and reason to prove or disprove any disputed fact that is of consequence to the determination of the action.

* Men with big balls are buying stocks right now. Shows faith in HaShem.

* I’ve decided my true calling is “Goy Wrangler” and I want Sheldon Adelson to hire me for this position.

* Texas = Israel for goyim. (Fred T. Kuehnert)

WP: Republicans have surrendered to Donald Trump

Republicans have met an alpha male and he might just uncuck them.

Liberal Washington Post blogger Greg Sargent gets it! He writes:

Republicans have already surrendered to Trump: they have mostly given up on trying to resist the terms of the debate as he has set them, and have mostly accepted that the battle will be fought on his turf.

Two major exchanges from last night’s debate drive this home. The first came when a moderator asked the candidates to say whether they agreed with Trump’s call for a temporary ban on non-citizen Muslims from entering the United States.

John Kasich kinda sorta broke with Trump a bit, saying in an aside that “we don’t want to put everybody in the same category,” and Chris Christie did flatly say that “you can’t just ban all Muslims,” but both men seemed more eager to flaunt their toughness towards Syrian refugees. Rubio and Cruz answered the question mainly by blaming the very existence of Trump’s proposal on Obama’s weakness…

This is not what was supposed to happen. For months, the chatter in media and political circles held that at some point, one or more of Trump’s rivals would rise up and confront his simplistic xenophobia and demagoguery with the force of a real argument, which would remind everyone that Trumpism is not what the GOP is really about. This just hasn’t happened in any meaningful sense. And there is no sign that it is going to. As Jonathan Chait puts it, a strange defeatism about Trumpism has taken hold among Republicans.

The second key moment came towards the end, when Cruz and Rubio engaged in an epic showdown over immigration. Rubio made his now-familiar argument that it’s disingenuous of Cruz to attack him as soft on amnesty because Cruz once supported legalization. Cruz dismissed that, pointing out that the two have fundamentally differed, and continue to do so, on the core question in the debate: whether or not to legalize the 11 million undocumented immigrants in this country.

Cruz is right about this. But the important point here is that Rubio did not seriously defend the idea of legalization. Instead he claimed the entire immigration debate has been recast by events — that it’s no longer about whether to legalize the undocumented but instead is about the ways radical jihadists are trying to exploit the immigration system. “This issue has to be now more than anything else about keeping America safe,” Rubio said.

It’s hard not to read this as a partial surrender to Trump’s emotional framing of the issue, i.e., that migrants are primarily a cause for suspicion and fear. This, from the GOP’s onetime Great Latino Hope, the candidate who took an enormous risk by embracing the idea that those who are here illegally, but want to work and generally contribute lawfully to their new American communities, should be given a chance to transition from the shadows into public participation in American life. Now the immigration debate is no longer about the broad, complex questions of fairness and justice that are at the core of whether the undocumented should be given that chance. Instead, the debate is over what to do about the notion that immigration risks admitting sinister threats into the country.

Trump set the terms of this debate at least six months ago. And that has not changed. Perhaps as the nominee Rubio might be able to pivot back to supporting some form of legalization and even citizenship, something he has left the door ajar to doing later. But the battle for the nomination itself looks likely to unfold largely within the parameters of the debate as Trump has established them.

Marathon Runner Adopts Four Ethiopian Kids

I finished five marathons when I was 11. I wonder if it led to my life of fatigue and low testosterone levels?

New York Times: Hall, 33, who was one of the last remaining hopes for an American front-runner in this summer’s Olympic marathon, is succumbing to chronically low testosterone levels and fatigue so extreme, he says, that he can barely log 12 easy miles a week….

Testosterone is vital for optimum athletic performance, but the hormone’s levels can drop over time with extreme training, similar to how some female runners or gymnasts experience decreased estrogen levels. Hall, who at 5-foot-10 kept his weight consistently at a spry 130 to 140 pounds, said he first learned of his low testosterone levels when he turned professional after college, and initially managed to hit top times nonetheless.

Supplemental testosterone is a banned substance, but Hall would be eligible for a medical waiver if he wanted to try to boost his levels. He said he has decided against that because of potential side effects (including dependency and infertility) and ethical concerns (some athletes use testosterone illicitly as a performance-enhancing drug). Natural remedies like the altering of his diet and lifting weights have not restored his strength, he said.

…Regardless, he was the rare American marathoner who challenged the sport’s dominant athletes from East Africa. His landmark time for an American runner was achieved in an uncommonly fast Boston Marathon field, leading most of the race at blistering speed until he was beaten at the end and finished fourth.

“I remember Wesley Korir telling me after that race that the Kenyans were afraid of me, and I thought that was ironic, I’d never heard of a Kenyan being afraid of a white person before in the race,” Hall said. “I think it showed the level of respect they have for me. I love that it ruffles feathers with them, but I don’t see any difference between them and me. White people can race Africans.”

…For the last five years, Hall has lived as an Olympian hermit, tucked away in a valley in the mountains of Northern California with his family, where they can be close to their church, a charismatic evangelical Christian fellowship. Still supported by Asics, he withdrew from formal coaching and team training altogether, beginning instead what he referred to as “faith-based training.”

…In October, the Halls adopted four sisters, ages 5 to 15, from an orphanage in Ethiopia, where they spent several months training last year. The girls did not speak English, so to prepare for the adoption the Halls took Amharic lessons, practicing the language with their Ethiopian running partners.

“We met them and fell in love, and decided to adopt all four girls in a week,” Sara said. “It was a step of faith. Not many kids get chosen by their parents, and older children have a difficult time finding homes — it’s even harder for them to stay together. We asked them if they wanted to join our family, and they all said yes.”

The Halls let the girls pick English names, then enrolled the children in a small Christian school and supplemented their education with home tutoring. The girls had been raised Protestant, and so were already in sync with the religious patterns of the Hall household. Sara said they wake up a half-hour before school to pray on their own, a practice they learned in the orphanage. “It’s crazy to me,” she said. “Sometimes I don’t even want to get up and do that.”

The girls already share their parents’ passion for Muscle Milk teff pancakes, made with a sponsor’s protein powder, an Ethiopian grain, baking powder and water. “They’re like a healthy brownie, a molten lava cake,” Hall said. “Every night when I go to bed I can’t wait to get up and have my pancake.”

Hall said fatherhood would be a major priority for him, along with volunteering for the Steps Foundation, which he started with Sara. But for now his main pursuit is coaching Sara, along with her other coach, Steve Magness, as she seeks her first Olympic spot at the marathon trials next month.

The Snake

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
“Poor thing,” she cried, “I’ll take you in and I’ll take care of you”
“Take me in tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in, tender woman,” sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a comforter of silk
And laid him by her fireside with some honey and some milk
She hurried home from work that night and soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she’d taken to had been revived
“Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in, tender woman,” sighed the snake

She clutched him to her bosom, “You’re so beautiful,” she cried
“But if I hadn’t brought you in by now you might have died”
She stroked his pretty skin again and kissed and held him tight
Instead of saying thanks, the snake gave her a vicious bite
“Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in, tender woman,” sighed the snake
“I saved you,” cried the woman
“And you’ve bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I’m going to die”
“Oh shut up, silly woman,” said the reptile with a grin
“You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in
“Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in, tender woman,” sighed the snake

From ABC News:

Donald Trump read the lyrics to Al Wilson’s 1968 R&B song “The Snake” during a rally in Iowa Tuesday night to illustrate what might happen if the United States allows Syrian refugees into the United States.

The song tells the story of a woman who finds a snake on the streets and takes him in, but he turns on her.

“Take me in, for heaven’s sake. Take me in oh tender woman, sighed the snake…..But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite,” reads the lyrics.

Trump put on his glasses and read the lyrics from a white piece of paper to the Cedar Falls, IA crowd of 1,300.

“Now she clutched him to her bosom, ‘You’re so beautiful,” she cried. But if I hadn’t brought you in by now you might have died.”

Leading up to the lyrics, Trump talked about refugees living in Cologne, Germany calling it a disaster.

“I don’t think you wanna have, people coming in from the migration from Syria, and when you look at that migration, it’s very unusual. When I look at it, I see so many men, and they’re young. They look like they should be on the wrestling team,” Trump said. “And they’re young and they’re strong, and you don’t see that many women.”

Telling his supporters that the refugees have “no documentation whatsoever,” Trump called for Gulf states like Saudi Arabia to construct a safe zone in Syria.

“Saudi Arabia who has a billion dollars a day before the oil went down. So now they’re making half, Ok? They’re making a lot. Get them to pay,” he said.

Trump said he read the lyrics to “The Snake” the other day and called them incredible.

“It was like story time with Trump,” said Tyler Rowe, a University of Iowa student who says he’s voting for the billionaire businessman.
