A Jewish Libertarian Perspective

Chaim Amalek writes me: “Pesach is soon to be upon us, and all I see here are white nationalism posts. Nothing on how it feels for you, a Jew, to prepare for Passover. Nothing about Torah. Nothing. It makes Torah Yidden wonder… In honor of Passover, I challenge you to post ten things about the Jewish religion that you really like.”

Ilana Mercer writes: A retail store selling Nazi memorabilia opens its doors in my neighborhood. I enter in search of the yellow Star of David Jews were forced to wear during the Third Reich. The proprietor, decked out in Nazi insignia and regalia, says, “I’m sorry, we don’t serve Jews.” “Don’t be like that,” I say. “Where else can I find a pair of clip-on swastika earrings?” The Nazi sympathizer is polite but persistent: “Ma’am, I mean no disrespect, but back in the Old Country, Jews murdered my great grandfather’s cousin and used his blood in the leavening of the Passover matzah.” “Yeah,” I reply. “I’m familiar with that blood libel. I assure you my own mother’s matzo balls were free of the blood of brats, gentile or Jewish. No matter. I can see where you’re coming from. I’m sorry for your loss. Good luck.”

Sean Gabb – Enoch Powell. The Man and His Politics

Enoch Powell was not a white nationalist, nor a race realist. He would have been just as horrified if a million Germans showed up in Britain. He denied any feelings of racial supremacy or the innate goodness of the white race. His entire objection was that these were not our people.

Fast & Furious 7

Steve Sailer writes: The increasingly popular Fast & Furious movies are of interest because they say a lot about the multicultural America of the future, which will be, evidently, sentimental, expensive, cliched, and low-brow. The dialogue, which appears to be aimed at 13-year-olds and people who haven’t heard before English language phrases like The Rock’s line “stick it where the sun don’t shine,” is pretty terrible. The Fast & Furious films are probably the lowest brow of all the blockbuster series and thus the most appealing to minorities.

Asians And THE BELL CURVE In Fairfax, VA–Diversity Or Meritocracy?

Patrick Buchanan writes: A voracious and eclectic reader, President Nixon instructed me to send him every few weeks 10 articles he would not normally see that were on interesting or important issues.

In 1971, I sent him an essay from The Atlantic, with reviews by Time and Newsweek, by Dr. Richard Herrnstein. My summary read:

“Basically, (Herrnstein) demonstrates that heredity, rather than environment, determines intelligence–and that the more we proceed to provide everyone with a ‘good environment’ the more heredity will become the dominant factor … in their success and social standing.”

In a 1994 obituary, The New York Times wrote that Herrnstein, though he “was often harassed … and his classes at Harvard were disrupted,” never recanted his heresy. He wrote “I.Q. and Meritocracy” in 1973, and in 1994 co-authored with Charles Murray the hugely controversial “The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life.

What brought this back was a piece buried in the “B” section of The Washington Post about the incoming class at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County.[Asian students dominate admissions to elite Thomas Jefferson High School, By T. Rees Shapiro, March 31, 2015]

TJ High is an elite magnet school that admits students based on their academic aptitude and achievement and offers “courses in differential equations, artificial intelligence and neuroscience.”

According to the Post, 70 percent of the incoming freshmen are Asians, the highest percentage ever for a school already 60 percent Asian. Ten years ago, the student body was 32 percent Asian.

White students make up 29 percent of the school today, but are only 22 percent of the entering class. The class of 2019 will have 346 Asians and 102 whites, but only 12 Hispanics and 8 blacks.

Of the 2,841 applicants for 2015, one in four Asians was admitted and one in eight whites, but only one in 16 Hispanics and one in 25 black students. Of low-income students, only one in 33 applicants got in.

What do these numbers tell us?

New York Post Blasts Jews For Lousy Food On UWS

Chaim Amalek writes: “Well, I’ve been to one world’s fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that’s the stupidest thing I ever seen on a blog. The problem with this analysis begins with its own numbers, pointing out that 2/3rds of the UWS is NOT Jewish. So how can one rationally blame that 1/3 for what the 2/3rds don’t support? Also, the overall characterization of the demographic here is weirdly out of date. The old lefty intellectual Jewish UWS was mostly gone decades ago. Now it is like any other part of white Manhattan, with just a smattering of the old (and I do mean OLD) Jewish crowd left along West End Avenue. And finally, does anyone think that the restaurants of the goyim in Judenfrei America are better? It is a sea of Denny’s and Olive Gardens out there, folks. White antisemites need to step up their game if they want to be able to look Islamists in the eye. Also, for anyone who wants to eat out at some fancy place in Manhattan without rubbing elbows with Jews, tonight is one of the two best nights of the year for that, maybe the best. Passover. Even secular Jews will be dining at someone’s home this evening. As will Luke Ford.”

BLOG: A top-featured article from the NY Post reviews how bland, generic, and flavorless the restaurant scene is in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and places blame on the demand side with the residents themselves. Restaurants that ought to do great business flounder in the UWS, while run-of-the-mill Chinese take-out will never die. Any place that tries to do something bold is immediately watered down to appeal to dull taste buds.

You don’t have to read between the lines very carefully to see who the problem is among the residents — it’s primarily the Jewish palate that the Italian-American critic is blasting.

Savvy readers may have suspected this already, given that about 1/3 of the neighborhood’s residents are Jewish. But the critic can’t come right out and say that in the mainstream media (for similar reasons that he would not be able to discuss openly). He did manage to drop a rather big hint toward the end, though, while quoting some other source (my emphasis):

And a new place that sticks to its guns must put up with what [Jewish restaurant manager Ed] Schoenfeld calls the “kvetch factor.”

On Christmas at RedFarm [Chinese food on Christmas], “A lady at the bar was counting people and seats to see who should get a table next.” She made a loud stink and “made my manager cry,” Schoenfeld recalls ruefully.

He asked her to leave — “I basically fired my customer,” he laughs. “You’d never see that downtown.”

Perhaps locals share lingering nostalgia for the days of Mexican beaneries and dairy cafeterias. Call it Karl Marx’s revenge on a neighborhood that prefers Gray’s Papaya to the eats that make this city the most famous dining destination in the world.

The Terms Of The Nuclear Deal Seem Unfavorable To Iran

If this is the deal, it is unfavorable to the Iranians. Skeptics will ask — if the the sanctions are relaxed, will they return if the Iranians cheat? That is what Netanyahu, and the neocons in the U.S. will focus on. As long as Iran has any nuclear program, the neocons want the sanctions to remain in place and for Iran to remain a pariah nation. The Iranians would never agree to that, and if they comply with this agreement, their nuclear program supposedly cannot be repurposed to provide for fissionable material. So it seems that Netanyahu, Bolton, Murvachik, Kristol, Prager, et al wanted complete capitulation from Iran or war.

Why No Riots for Ricky Shawatza Hall?

American Thinker: What demands explanation is why the media and the Department of Justice have applied such disparate standards in the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown on one hand and Miriam Carey and Ricky Shawatza Hall on the other.

The answer is fairly obvious. “Black lives matter” or “LGBTQ lives matter” only when those deaths advance the agenda of the Democrat-media complex. With Obama in the White House, the shooting death of a black person and/or a gay person by federal officers scores no political points.

The heads of America’s major newsrooms sense this instinctively. They don’t need to be told. The minor newsrooms follow the major ones. Activists, black and gay, are reading the same tea leaves.

On March 15, 2012, just a few days before the story of Trayvon Martin’s killing in Florida became a national sensation, Jose Carranza, 32, was quietly sentenced to 155 years in prison for brutally executing three innocent black college students in a Newark, New Jersey playground.

Who is Jose Carranza? Like George Zimmerman, Carranza is of Peruvian descent. Ironically, what protected Carranza was the fact that he was “undocumented.” The headline, “Illegal Alien Kills Black Innocents,” appealed to no one in the Media-Democrat complex. Had Zimmerman been illegal, we never would have heard of him.

Twenty years before Zimmerman was arrested, almost to the day, the decision makers in America’s newsrooms had even less use for a headline that read, “Clinton Tank Attack on Religious Community Kills 26 Blacks, 13 Other Minorities.” So they fully suppressed the race angle. I doubt if even Al Sharpton knows that most of those killed at Waco were minorities.

And fifteen years prior to Waco, no major media publisher anywhere would have dared run a story with a headline, “Bodies of 250 black children dumped in Oakland mass grave: Communist killer had close ties to the Carters, Jerry Brown, Harvey Milk.”

To state the obvious: some black lives matter a whole lot more than others, and Ricky Shawatza Hall’s was one that did not matter much at all.
