The Post Divorce David Brooks Turn To Feel Good Oprahism

* Brooks’s basic template is always ethnonationism for Israel, multi-culti for everyone else. More immigrants for the US helps break down the WASP establishment, which long ago was kind of skeptical about what Israel would do for American national interests. But it’s trickier now: many to the new immigrants don’t fall into line behind Jewish leadership either. The Iran deal was facilitated by a new Iranian-American group full of smart, politically engaged, young people. Pro-Palestinian activism on campus has the kids of refugees at its core. On the other hand, more immigrants means more canon fodder for American wars in Iraq, Iran, etc. I think that overall, continued mass immigration will lead to a foreign policy less pleasing to Brooks, but it’s a close call.

* Brooks: nationalism for me, anti-nationalism for everyone else.

* Steve, in recent years, has tried consistently to convince this sort of Jew to…rethink the matter. In principle a good idea, but I haven’t seen any evidence it’ll work.

* I’ve been really surprised at the nature of the war the Republicans have fought against Trump. Rich Lowry said Fiorina sliced his balls off, and then spent a day or so pretending to be butch in a Twitter “war” with Trump and his followers, cackling that this was the way to get Trump. It was weird. They don’t seem to realize Trump’s partly playing a game.

And then big talk now is that Trump is stalling. Really? Meanwhile, four days of excoriating Carson for his comment on Muslims didn’t seem to hurt his numbers.

It’s a weird, exciting, cycle.

As I wrote in my education policy series, I find it very revealing that the rest of the GOP candidates don’t–can’t, presumably–jump on the Trump bandwagon. They can’t adopt his message, because the elites won’t have it. I remain concerned that he’s going to be shut down, and all this talk will go away. But the really interesting thing, to me, is why. Why is there absolutely no real interest in shutting the borders?

These are rhetorical, existential questions, commentariat, so please don’t annoy me with answers. I understand the usual suspects, and worry about them myself. The real question is how long the American people will tolerate it.

* If I didn’t know any better, just from reading this Brooks column, I would walk away from it thinking that concepts like “American exceptionalism,” “American dream” and “conservatism” are meaningless trope at best and anti-white universalist weapons at worst, and therefore the obvious conclusion is that these concepts should be jettisoned.

The Glories Of Japan’s Slow Growth

* It’s about “Who, whom?” as usual.

Foreign investors i.e. American hedge funds, banks, etc. don’t like Japan because Japan’s real estate and financial markets have been flat. That’s what’s meant by “lost decade”. It’s not that it’s been that bad for ordinary Japanese, what’s been “lost” is the opportunity for these foreign investors to make capital gains and extract more money out of Japan for themselves.

What the foreign investors wanted was for Japan to sell its people out and gin up its real estate and financial markets by things like immigration population growth.

A flat, low real estate and financial market is not necessarily a bad thing for your ordinary citizens. It keeps the costs down for your ordinary citizens to buy.

This applies not only between foreign investors and ordinary Japanese, but also between Wall St. and ordinary American citizens in fly-over country.

* Japan, like Finland, is a great counter-argument against people who claim the only way to have a competitive high-tech economy is to throw open the floodgates of 3rd world immigration (also against people who claim that it’s impossible for high-wage countries to maintain a manufacturing base). In the long term a smaller population will probably be good for Japan once they get over the demographic hump, resulting in more affordable real estate, less crowding, and higher wages. I give them credit for wanting to preserve their culture and ignoring the many commentators who have called for them to combat their declining population by importing a servant class from southeast Asia into an already overcrowded island.

Another important statistic the article didn’t mention: Japanese cities are light-years safer and cleaner than American ones. The comparison of the Japanese reaction to Fukushima and the American reaction to Hurricane Katrina remains instructive.

What Kind Of Women Cheat?

Study: Women who wear the pants in the relationship are more likely to cheat:

The imbalance of power in the primary relationship has been associated with infidelity. Edwards and Booth (1976) found that wives who reported that they “get their way” more often during disagreements were also more likely to have extramarital sexual involvements.

2) An imbalance in education increases the chance of cheating:

…in a large U.S. national study of dating, cohabiting, and married women, Forste and Tanfer (1996) found that women who were more educated than their husbands were more likely to engage in sexual infidelity; but if the husband was more educated than the wife, she was less likely to philander. Level of education relative to that of the partner appears to be more important than absolute level of education.

3) Jobs have a lot to do with whether people have an affair:

Individuals who work outside the home while their partners remain in the home also express higher rates of extramarital sexual involvement (Atkins et al., 2001), perhaps because the work environment provides the opportunity and time to get to know coworkers (Treas & Giesen, 2000). In clinical samples, 46% to 62% of individuals reported that they met their extramarital sexual partner at work (Glass, 2003; Wiggins & Lederer, 1984). The likelihood of extramarital involvement is also related to the degree to which an individual’s job involves touching clients, discussing personal concerns with colleagues or clients, or working alone with co-workers (Treas & Giesen, 2000).

* 4) The timing of infidelity is predictable:

Among married women, the likelihood of extramarital involvement peaks in the seventh year of marriage, then declines; but among married men, the likelihood of extramarital involvement decreases over time until the eighteenth year of matrimony, after which the likelihood of extramarital involvement increases (Liu, 2000). Similarly, in a sample of couples in therapy for infidelity, sexual infidelity first occurred after an average of seven years of marriage (Wiggins & Lederer, 1984). Lawson and Samson (1988) reported, however, that the length of marriage prior to initial sexual infidelity is decreasing with younger cohorts. Certain developmental stages in a marriage, including pregnancy and the months following the birth of a child, are also high risk times for infidelity among males (Allen & Baucom, 2001; Brown, 1991; Whisman et al., 2007).

* So, to recap, here is what you need to know to prevent your woman from cheating on you:

1. Learn game and become the alpha male that women need.

2. Do not allow your woman to wear the pants, unless it is in relation to some trivial point of contention that you let her win to demonstrate your big-heartedness.

3. Be more educated than your woman.

4. Do not, under any circumstances, spend time as a stay-at-home dad.

5. If your wife works, make sure it is in an occupation requiring little travel, where she will be confined to a sterile office surrounded by women and beta males. Any job where a massage table is involved is an example of a job you don’t want her to have.

6. Act a little more asshole-ish and unpredictable when your marriage approaches the seven year mark. Or when she’s approaching her monthly ovulation.

7. Failing all of the above, cheat first. She will smell it on you, and her love will grow in proportion to her fear of losing you.

* This is a revelation about the female mind that escapes the logical thinking of so many men — why would a woman want to be with a man like Cashmoney? Why would any woman willingly offer herself as a rentable hole to a man hawking her goods to streetside bidders? Because women want to submit to a powerful man. Whether that power comes in the form of a crooning emo rock star, a CEO, or a pimp daddy with fists of fury doesn’t matter. All that matters is the male power, and the tingly feeling of submitting – wholly, completely – to that power. Every woman, deep DEEP inside, wants to be “daddy’s little girl”.

It makes one wonder. Are the American elite ignorant of their hypocrisy and double standards, or is it that they just don’t give a shit?

Women Who Can’t Compete

From the Chateau: Women who can’t compete with the most desired women, or who fall tantalizingly short of competing, or who once competed by now no longer do, must get some kind of deep, ego-sparing emotional satisfaction by telling themselves blatant lies about the reality of female attractiveness and male attraction standards. If women didn’t have an IQ-lowering herd mentality and an obesity epidemic disfiguring the majority of them that prompted them to sing amens in unison every time a femborg shrieked out another reality-denying whopper, we’d hear far less of this crap blaring from all our media channels. Loser chicks would go back to licking their ego wounds the old-fashioned way — by taking up poetry and staring pensively out a bedroom window.

So, for the short bus regulars (this includes you, ♥Vanessa)…

Beauty is objectively measurable. Slender women are more attractive than fat women to the overwhelming majority of men. There was never a time when men liked fat women. A 0.7 waist-to-hip ratio is the most attractive body shape for a woman. A BMI of 20.85 is the most attractive weight for a woman. A young, healthy woman with clear skin is more attractive than an old, unhealthy woman with blotchy skin. Yes, ♥Vanessa, there is a sexual marketplace, women are just as much a commodity to be bartered in this marketplace as men are, there is no alternative to this reality, and there IS a wrong way to have a body.

IQ And Doing Dumb Things

Blog: Once there were 3 classes of birds of a feather: Dumb birds, Smart birds and Genius birds. There was also a genius bird of a different feather hanging around. All summer the genius bird of a different feather went around to the smart birds of a feather telling them how ridiculous it was to fly south for the winter — that these atavistic instincts were a terrible legacy from “the bad old days” and gave very sophisticated-sounding arguments that the smart birds of a feather couldn’t quite understand but understood quite well that they’d better pretend to understand lest they be accused of being dumb birds.

Fall cometh. The dumb birds fly south to the derision of the smart birds. The genius birds of a feather think, “I’ve heard the arguments about flying south for the winter being only for dumb birds, but where really do these feelings come from? Could they have survival value? Could the genius bird of a different feather have a conflict of interest?” Even before thinking the answers through, the mere doubts raised were sufficient to motivate flying south. The smart birds of a feather, hearing these doubts raised by the genius birds of a feather proceeded to attack them as “dumb birds”. They felt superior to the genius birds of a feather. Some genius birds of a feather were even injured enough to stop them from being able to fly south.

Winter hits. The smart birds of a feather die. The injured genius birds of a feather die. The genius birds of a different feather turn out to have an adaptation to cold weather. Spring comes. An evolutionary dynamic reveals itself…

Flying south represents the social disorder caused by Jews in a society. In general, Jews advocate undermining the traditions of white Christians.

* The parable of the smart birds is Edmund Burke’s thesis: no matter how much you think you’ve got it figured out, smart guy, be humble before institutional wisdom and the ways of tradition because they developed over millennia of trial and error.

Or G.K. Chesterton referring to the “democracy of the dead.” Orthodoxy and conservatism seem dumb on the surface to the analyst. New generations inevitably ask, “Why should we do things the old way? I don’t get it.” Well, the deep sources of wisdom that sustain certain customs cannot be grasped easily, but the their integrity is proved by their longevity. At any rate, if we are going to reevaluate old ways with each generation, if some customs are to be discontinued, at very least we should not be discard them lightly. (Hello, Marx! We’re looking at you.) Give the dead a vote:

“Tradition refuses to submit to the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be [alive]. All democrats object to men being disqualified by the accident of birth; tradition objects to their being disqualified by the accident of death. Democracy tells us not to neglect a good man’s opinion, even if he is our groom; tradition asks us not to neglect a good man’s opinion, even if he is our father. I, at any rate, cannot separate the two ideas of democracy and tradition; it seems evident to me that they are the same idea. We will have the dead at our councils. The ancient Greeks voted by stones; these shall vote by tombstones.”

The dumb birds go south because they have experienced enough winters to know it gets cold. The dead went through countless more winters than we have, and they established traditions for reasons only accessible by respecting their wisdom.

The smart birds (like “progressive” academicians, who are monolithically leftist) are just smart enough to reject that wisdom, like snotty kids who look down on their dads. They believe they must be smarter simply because they came after the last generation, and they imagine themselves building upon their knowledge base even though they explicitly reject that hard-won knowledge as retrograde. Whatever you want to call that, it’s not “smart.” Which is why, for all the academic credentials of leftwingers, for all their sneering and dedications to the accoutrements of intellectuals, I have never in my life, ever, met a truly smart man of the left. They became arrogant early, decided all issues settled, and stopped learning in their intellectual adolescence.

So, convinced as you are that nothing can be true if it doesn’t sound sciencey, use the trendy language of biology if you must — “evolutionary dynamic,” “adaptation,” “survival value,” etc. But we’ve been on to this stuff for awhile. Just give over to conservatism and you’ll be all right. Trust me. What good is trial and error on a grand scale when the youthful delusions of independence require him to start over every generation?

NYT: Police Program Aims to Pinpoint Those Most Likely to Commit Crimes

New York Times: KANSAS CITY, Mo. — At the request of his probation officer, Tyrone C. Brown came to a community auditorium here in June and sat alongside about 30 other mostly young black men with criminal records — men who were being watched closely by the police, just as he was.

He expected to hear an admonition from law enforcement officials to help end violence in the community. But Mr. Brown, 29, got more than he had bargained for. A police captain presented a slide show featuring mug shots of people they were cracking down on. Up popped a picture of Mr. Brown linking him to a criminal group that had been implicated in a homicide.

“I was disturbed,” said Mr. Brown, who acknowledges having been involved in crime but denied that he had ever been involved in a killing.

That discomfort was just the reaction the authorities were after.

Mr. Brown, whose criminal record includes drug and assault charges, is at the center of an experiment taking place in dozens of police departments across the country, one in which the authorities have turned to complex computer algorithms to try to pinpoint the people most likely to be involved in future violent crimes — as either predator or prey. The goal is to do all they can to prevent the crime from happening.

The strategy, known as predictive policing, combines elements of traditional policing, like increased attention to crime “hot spots” and close monitoring of recent parolees. But it often also uses other data, including information about friendships, social media activity and drug use, to identify “hot people” and aid the authorities in forecasting crime.

The program here has been named the Kansas City No Violence Alliance, or KC NoVA. And the message on that June night to Mr. Brown and the others was simple: The next time they, or anyone in their crews, commit a violent act, the police will come after everyone in the group for whatever offense they can make stick, no matter how petty.

The Only Way Trump Can Lose

* Even though the media and punditocracy are doing EVERYTHING they can to bring Trump down, they won’t be able to do it. Only Trump can undo himself, and the only way he can do that is not by becoming politically correct — political incorrectness is his major virtue the electorate loves — but by becoming boring.

Part of being successful in game is never being boring. Shifting frames. Getting the other person to qualify herself. Surprising continuously with conversational turns. Deepening mystery.

The problem with politicians (among many other problems) is that they have to talk about the same things — over and over and over again. Trump is falling into that trap now — it’s the vets, it’s cherishing women, on and on and on.

So called “skilled” talkers — say, a Newt Gingrich or Rubio or Cruz — come up with a shitload of variations on the theme, but they are either narcotically wonkish (Gingrich), schoolboy earnest (Rubio), or robotic (Cruz). They don’t have Trump’s alpha persona, and they never will.

Bottom line, as CH points out, it’s phase 2 — but as well as building emotional attraction, Trump has to get beyond the scripts he’s been relying on.

* Trump has been building plenty of rapport in his actual speeches, which the MSM refuse to show almost any portion of (except when a heckler calls Obama a muslim) for obvious reasons.

I found his demeanor extremely approachable (if fabricated, but they all are) and he actually gets into MORE detail about current events and his policy approaches than other candidates that I have hard.

However, the Media is taking the strategy of “show no clips of Trump explaining policy” and then saying “See, Trump has no details”.

It is a clever way to approach it, and very Alinski-esque. We’ll see if it works.
