I’ve never heard of women having fetishes like this.
Why am I even reporting this? Is there not enough in the Torah to keep me entertained?
I say, more workin’ and less learnin’ for prisoners!
I had no idea that taxpayers were on the hook for funding art classes for California prisoners.
Two years ago, arts in corrections programs were a mainstay of prisons across the country, embraced by administrators as a way to channel aggression, break down racial barriers, teach social skills and prepare inmates for the outside world. There was an arts coordinator in each of the 33 California state prisons, overseeing a rich variety of theater, painting and dance.
But these programs have become a fading memory, casualties of the budget crises that have overwhelmed state and local governments nationwide. Nowhere is that truer than here, where prisons are so overcrowded that the Supreme Court in May ordered the state to start releasing inmates.
“The artist facilitator — that position was eliminated,” said Violette Peters, who filled the role for four years at this medium-security prison in the desert, which, with 4,410 inmates, is at double its capacity. “So now I’m a corrections case analyst. I work in the records department, which has nothing to do with the arts programs.”
Only two prison arts programs are left in California, and both rely on volunteers and private contributions.
Kirk emails: Leaving my house this morning to go to work, a van approaches with a driver (long beard, black hat) that was swerving while making his way down the street. When he passed me I noticed he had a sefer open and was either davening or saying tehillim.
So as a community service, I suggest you admonish your readers about the dangers of driving while davening.

There’s nothing wrong with calling the president a dick (except that such language is inappropriate on a news show). The president was a tool at his press conference yesterday. I don’t sympathize with this American tendency to automatically treat their presidents respectfully.
Presidents are politicians. They don’t deserve any respect unless they’ve earned it through their actions. Obama is the worst president in at least 80 years, perhaps ever.

MSNBC senior political analyst Mark Halperin was suspended on Thursday by the cable network after he called President Obama “a dick” on a popular morning show and then quickly apologized.
“I thought he was a dick yesterday,” Halperin, who also is an editor-at large for Time, said on Morning Joe, referring to the President’s conduct during his press conference.

On his radio show today, Dennis Prager read aloud this headline.

Herein lays the new Catch-22 of contemporary Jewish life: In order to reach the numbers we need, we have to dumb down our message and water down the experience. A dumbed-down and watered-down Judaism, however, cannot compete in an open marketplace of ideas. Therefore, our successes lay the foundation for our failure. At the same time, when one deepens the message and intensifies the experience, one seemingly loses the numbers game.
The Jewish people have, since our inception, been the carriers of ideas. We changed history, not as a result of our economic or military power, nor by the enormity of our numbers. It was by the depth and significance of what we stood for – a way of life permeated by important ideas and values held together and conveyed through powerful and meaningful experiences – which placed Jews and Judaism as a transformational force in human culture.
This content is not Twitter-able. The journey of a meaningful Jewish life needs a wide bandwidth. It requires knowledge, time, and commitment. If we want Judaism to have a great future, and not merely a great past, we need to set our sights higher and deeper.
How do we solve the Jewish Catch-22? Part of it is not solvable, and we have to recognize that Jewish life was not in the past, and will not be in the future only a numbers game. However, there need not be a zero-sum game between short-term programs aimed at teaching “something,” and those that give content and meaning to a more extensive Jewish journey.
