The Only Way Trump Can Lose

* Even though the media and punditocracy are doing EVERYTHING they can to bring Trump down, they won’t be able to do it. Only Trump can undo himself, and the only way he can do that is not by becoming politically correct — political incorrectness is his major virtue the electorate loves — but by becoming boring.

Part of being successful in game is never being boring. Shifting frames. Getting the other person to qualify herself. Surprising continuously with conversational turns. Deepening mystery.

The problem with politicians (among many other problems) is that they have to talk about the same things — over and over and over again. Trump is falling into that trap now — it’s the vets, it’s cherishing women, on and on and on.

So called “skilled” talkers — say, a Newt Gingrich or Rubio or Cruz — come up with a shitload of variations on the theme, but they are either narcotically wonkish (Gingrich), schoolboy earnest (Rubio), or robotic (Cruz). They don’t have Trump’s alpha persona, and they never will.

Bottom line, as CH points out, it’s phase 2 — but as well as building emotional attraction, Trump has to get beyond the scripts he’s been relying on.

* Trump has been building plenty of rapport in his actual speeches, which the MSM refuse to show almost any portion of (except when a heckler calls Obama a muslim) for obvious reasons.

I found his demeanor extremely approachable (if fabricated, but they all are) and he actually gets into MORE detail about current events and his policy approaches than other candidates that I have hard.

However, the Media is taking the strategy of “show no clips of Trump explaining policy” and then saying “See, Trump has no details”.

It is a clever way to approach it, and very Alinski-esque. We’ll see if it works.

German authorities crack down on free speech, refuse debate on Mass-Migration

From Legal Insurrection: As Hungary confirmed the number of migrants heading towards Europe to be in the range of 30-35 million, Germany is still refusing to put an upper-limit to the number of migrants it can accommodate. Berlin, unwilling to change its open border policy, is urging EU member states to take in their “fair share” of migrants. Germany’s deputy Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel (Social Democrat) is calling for economic sanctions against East European countries, if they continue their opposition to Germany’s (and EU’s) generous stand on migrant intake.

Back home, mainstream media is in lockstep with the political establishment. From the “Die Linke”, successor of East-German communist party, to Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian-Democrats, all significant political parties back the current course. German politicians and commentators are now boasting of a “political consensus” on migration policy.

Not satisfied with shutting down the debate on the political stage, German authorities are now taking on the dissent to its migration policy on internet and social media platforms. German government is pulling out all stops to ensure Facebook complies with its idea of acceptable speech. Wall Street journal reports:

German Justice Minister Heiko Maas said after a meeting with Facebook executives in Berlin that the ministry would coordinate the creation of a task force with Facebook and other Internet competitors to evaluate whether inappropriate content flagged by users falls under freedom of speech or is illegal under German law.

Furthermore, Facebook Inc. has agreed to fund activist groups to play vigilantes on the social media:

Facebook also said it would give financial support to organizations that collect complaints against online hate speech to help remove comments faster. The social network earlier in the day announced other measures, including a task force to encourage users to draft countermessages to hate speech on the Web and campaigns to generally strengthen antihate speech on the Internet.

In recent weeks, German authorities have shown zero-tolerance towards individuals posting critical or hateful comments on the social media and internet. Police have confiscated computers and courts have imposed heavy fines to the tune of thousands of Euros.

This judicial activism would come as a surprise to anyone who witnessed German authorities’ inaction in face of massive anti-Semitic outbursts and violence during the Gaza conflict of 2014. Police across Germany failed to take action against demonstrators calling openly for violence against Jews. In July 2014, Police in Frankfurt allowed its megaphone-van to relay antisemitic hate. And when 3 men were arrested for burning the Synagogue in Wuppertal, courts acquitted them of hate crime — calling their crime an “act of protest [against Israel].” The men were found guilty of lesser charges and released on probation.

Same German authorities that were willing to extend “freedom of protest” to the burning of synagogues, and turned a blind eyes to anti-Semitic outbursts last year, are now acting surprisingly thin skinned in face of protests against their own policies.

Refusing a public debate on migration will only benefit Far-Right in Germany. Germany’s official response of shutting down the debate and wishing for it to go away, might come at a heavy price.

African Pilgrims Responsible For Mecca Carnage?

The head of Saudi Arabia’s Hajj committee blamed the stampede that has killed more than 700 pilgrims in the holy city of Mina on “some pilgrims from African nationalities,”

The comments have sparked recriminations online towards pilgrims from the African continent, with one person calling for a “decrease in the number of pilgrims from several countries such as Egypt and African countries, with all due respect, and to increase the number of pilgrims from Malaysia who are known for their order and rational behavior.”

* It’s just their cultural interpretation of queueing and I think we should celebrate it in all its vibrancy.

Do non-stratified societies have no homosexuals?

Comment: This study finds that, contrary to the current view that homosexuals were a constant fixture in all societies at all times, an analysis of 107 societies revealed the absence of homosexual behavior in some human groups. Notably, gays seem to only exist in stratified societies with social inequality. So that excludes them, presumably, from most prehistoric societies.

Acknowledging a genetic component, they propose the “hypergyny hypothesis” (i.e., the Hot Sister hypothesis), which explains how male homosexuality could have evolved despite the obvious reproductive costs. Essentially, it’s a tradeoff, an antagonistic gene that promotes homosexuality in the male while increasing fecundity in the female. So the reproductive costs of the male are offset by increasing fertility in the female (through increased femininity and attractiveness), providing an indirect advantage by increasing the probability of marrying into higher social classes.

So the homosexual male takes one for the team: he’s a darwinian zero while his hot sister goes on to spread their genes into the aristocracy.

There are so many levels of this study that are unpalatable to the current WWG mindset. If the study is correct, gayness is essentially an evolutionary tactic for gaming the system to allow social advancement in stratified societies. And how does this work? By making women more feminine and attractive to hetero male elite.

To the coalition of the fringes, social inequality is the ultimate sign of an unhealthy society. If gayness is a symptom of an unhealthy society, what would a healthy society look like? This study has the answer: non-stratified societies have no homosexuals. It doesn’t exactly match the narrative.

Japan Shows The Way Forward

* Steve, you often tell us on various articles about stagnating wages or stressed resources to do a ctrl-F for the “I” word, immigration. On articles like this one about the doom and gloom of homogeneity and low birth rates being the end of Europe and North America, might I suggest you do a ctrl-F for the “J” word, Japan.

Just like Trump recently told border fence naysayers to go ask Israel if fences work, our side in the open borders debate should start promoting Japan whose aging demographics and low birth rates mirror ours.

* Since it is only a matter of time before every population will be aging and/or declining wouldn’t it make more sense for the most advanced societies to pioneer how best to deal with it? Automation (new labor-saving technologies) seems like the obvious way to go since there will be fewer people available to do society’s work. Isn’t this Japan’s approach?

The alternative is to conceive of society as a ponzi scheme until the supply of dumb suckers runs out. At which point rioting begins.

* It is interesting to contrast the treatment of German-Americans after US entry into WW1 with the treatment of Mohammedans after 9-11. It is also interesting to see that German-Americans responded to this treatment by assimilating even further into American culture while Muslims responded to their post 9-11 treatment by doubling down on their uniqueness.

* There are far more Americans of Anglo stock than German. It’s just that most of their ancestors have been in this country for so long they forget where they came from.

Republican Consultants

* God, these consultants are the greatest waste of space on this planet. You watch them on TV the last 3 months, and every day they’re talking about how Trump is going to be done after the next poll. They end up being wrong, but it’s just the same faces on TV, again and again. No accountability at all for their positions, no reason to believe that any of their opinions have any empirical basis. Miraculously, what is good for the Republican Party always happens to be the policy positions they prefer.

Now they’re telling us that Carson can never be president because he doesn’t think there should be a Muslim president. The only people offended are either in the Beltway or already voting Democrat.

The wonkset like Ezra Klein at least try to live in the world of empirical evidence, even if they have their obvious blind spots.

The kind of man the consultant class has created inspires contempt in the general public and for good reason.

* There’s also the fact that Team Bush has hoovered up all the “talent” because they have all the money. The guys who plan to stay connected to party politics after this election understand they can’t sign on with a threat to the family business. Walker, Jindal, Perry, Christie and Kasich are guys who could plausibly fill the part of the Donor Party Candidate so they have to be dealt with in order.

If you look at the polls, it’s not hard to see the strategy. Team Bush will force out the governors and that vote will go into the Bushy column. That will put Bush into the mid to high teens by the holidays. They know the Carson and Farina vote are not going to hold and will break to the party candidate. By Iowa the word “inevitable” will be used a lot to describe the looming Bush victory.

Bush – Clinton 2016 will be a long debate about how fast we can invite the world to settle in your neighborhood.

* A big reason Trump is unthinkable anathema to the establishment is because he doesn’t throw the crusty soft state of GOP consultants any bones, and makes a point of saying they’re useless (I say that speaking out of school). Andrew Ferguson wrote an outstanding piece in the Weekly Standard some years back about how the movement conservatives who came in with Reagan have stuck around town and get along primarily by doing each other favors. It’s all horseshit, but the media and consultants are so damn incestuouse by now that the wisdom and necessity of these consultants is taken for granted.

* Walker’s campaign was top heavy with staff and spent a lot of money on consultants.

The consultant class doesn’t care whether you win or lose, they only care about the candidate being able to raise a lot of money so that the candidate can pay consultants. That’s why consultants have candidates take positions favorable to big money donors.

How Many Immigrants Should America Take?

Paul Ciotti writes: “The pope wants us to welcome immigrants as pilgrims. That’s fine. The U.S. has welcomed more immigrants than any other country in the world. I wish he would put a number on it though. We currently have perhaps 40 million illegal immigrants in the country. How many does the people want us to take? 100 million, 500 million? You got to put numbers on these things. The American taxpayer can’t support an unlimited number of immigrants, especially when so many immediately apply for welfare. People without jobs, who can’t compete in schools and live off welfare end up hating this country and the average working American who is paying their bills.”
