While I go about my holy work, I like to have Fox News running silently behind me so that when I take a break, I can look at something fair and balanced. Today I flipped to ESPN 2 and found the Australian Open and started watching Maria Sharapova. Normally I have no interest in women’s sports just as I have no interest in male models, but Maria makes this world a better place one backhand at a time. I don’t even hold it against her that she wears a cross. We’re in the second set. These women shriek when they play. They’re covered in sweat. But they’re not too muscular. Thank God. That’s not erotic for me. What percentage of men watch women’s tennis for the sublimity of their strokes? I am sure that what I’m watching is forbidden by the Torah.
