I Didn’t Convert To Judaism To Be Comforted

I spoke the other day to a reporter about the conversion crisis in Israel.

I said that the religion I joined was exclusivist and elitist and that I expected it to challenge me. Judaism and Jewish community can be as annoying as hell. It’s not easy. Even if the new conversion standards affect me adversely, I’m not going to condemn them for that (I don’t support them either). The more religious you get in Judaism, the more exclusivist and elitist you get. That’s the nature of the beast. That’s the challenge I signed on for.
