I Have A Serious Torah Question About A Cross Tattoo

A friend of mine is converting to Orthodox Judaism. She has one tattoo — that of a cross on her lower back.

My friend has no money. Removing the tattoo would take many sessions, many months, and many dollars she does not have. Yet she doubts she’ll be able to go into the mikveh for her conversion if she has a small cross on her back.

She’s considering getting the cross tattoo covered up with another tattoo — "Luke Ford Is My Moral Leader!"

OK, I made up that last phrase, but it would make her life easier if she just got the cross tattoo covered up.

What should she do?

I don’t feel like I can give a fully-informed judgment on this matter until I’ve seen the tattoo up close and personal.

About Luke Ford

I've written five books (see Amazon.com). My work has been covered in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and on 60 Minutes. I teach Alexander Technique in Beverly Hills (Alexander90210.com).
