Back To Porn

Fischel emails:

Given the comments about how you should talk about porn, you could say that, bowing to reader requests you are going to talk about porn…and then put up posts about bike porn, car porn, furniture porn, the furniture porn movie, luxury porn, lifestyle porn, house porn, boat porn, financial porn, more financial porn, food porn, and an article disaproving of this porn.

Want to get some traffic, etc.? You could tell people that you’ve decided to go back to talking about porn and that you’ll have a new site up for it…lukesnewpornsite.com, say, and then that site would basically be links to the sort of stuff I linked above.

Better: take a page from P.T. Barnum–tell everyone that you’ve bowed to the inevitable and are doing a new porn site, but that they have to pay to see it…and then hit them with what I described above. Let people be affiliates, so they could get their friends suckered in too. Though I suppose misleading people like that isn’t exactly kosher, but you could do a P.T. Barnum style build-up to get people to see it.

Another idea would be to start "porn" sites on each of the above, i.e. a car porn site, bike porn site, etc. Make them very focussed and then you can do targetted AdWords, etc. on niches that are probably pretty good–cars, bikes, furniture, luxury items, etc. Maybe have one site, LukesPornEmporium.com or whatever to be the main entrance to all of them.

And you can continually refer to your porn empire on your main blog to get people interested and mention periodically how bad you feel about having porn sites and so on to drive traffic to them.

You could do various tongue-in-cheek things too, with real porn stars giving testimonials–"Hi, I’m XXX–you may have seen me in YYYY–but where does a pornstar go when *she* wants to get off? I go to LukesPornEmporium.com, etc." (that would be the main site linking to LukesCarPorn.com, LukesFurniturePorn.com, etc.)

You could milk it for press–if necessary create your own (e.g. all the alt-weeklies that wrote about you could do a story about it, you could get an interviewer, do a video, put it on your site, send it around, etc.) — former porn scribe now back writing about porn again, with a twist or however you want to angle it.

And it’d be pretty easy–there are all sorts of high-end car and furniture, etc. places nearby as well as link to stuff from other people, mixed in with your trademark wit and sensibility…

Ah, Luke–riches await you…I just hope you’ll still remember all your poorer friends…
