The Revival Of Young Israel Of Beverly Hills?

Young Israel of North Beverly Hills is located in Beverly Hills. It’s the richest Orthodox synaogogue in Los Angeles (followed by YICC.com).

This broken down Young Israel of BH shul is located far south of Beverly Hills at 8701 Pico Bl.

I heard one suggestion that it should bill itself as "Young Israel of Beverly Hills Adjacent."

For a decade or more, this shul has struggled to get a minyan on Shabbos.

Hershey Zisblatt, shul president, sends out this email to the community:

This Shabbos will, IY"H, mark the beginning of a new chapter and a new beginning for The Young Israel of Beverly Hills and hopefully will serve as both a catalyst and a foundation for the growth and change going on in the Pico Robertson community.

The Jewish community in Pico-Robertson and Jewish communities worldwide have been going through a tremendous metamorphosis over the past decade. Thousands of young Jewish men and women are learning in Yeshivos and seminaries not to mention day schools, high schools, Bais Yaakovs and the like. Pico Robertson is no exception. What had been unforeseeable in the community just a few short years ago are realities today. In addition to all of the restaurants, markets and bookstores on Pico Boulevard, the community now boasts its own kollel and at least three men’s mikvaohs which are used on a daily basis. On any given day, there are at least 25 morning minyanim going on within a 90 minute interval.

We are highly cognizant of the highly unusual yet challenging times and world we live in. We are also cognizant of the niches and voids that remain to be filled in the Pico Robertson community so that it can maintain its present growth and development.

It is with this in mind that I invite each of you and your families to join us this Shabbos in welcoming Rabbi Mechie Blau to our community. Rabbi Blau is that perfect blend of chassidish and yeshivish. A wonderful speaker, rebbi, baal tefilla and magid shiur, we believe that Rabbi Blau will prove to be the perfect addition to the Pico Robertson community. Anyone who knows him will tell you what a special individual he is.

Obviously, this is only the beginning. We hope that this shabbaton will portend a new chapter for the Young Israel of Beverly Hills and serve as a reminder of its glorious days when Rabbi Zalman Ury, ZT"L,  was its Rav.

In the coming weeks, we hope to announce further plans regarding the "new" Young Israel of Beverly Hills. The Young Israel is fully committed to playing an important role in the spiritual growth of the community and the spiritual growth of the very special men and women who make up the community. With G-d’s blessing and your help, involvement, support and tefillos exciting and amazing things can be achieved that will further transform each and every one of us.
