THE EFFECT OF URBAN FLIGHT ON IQ DISTRIBUTION

From La Griffe du Lion:

Baltimore is typical of many Midwestern and Northern cities, whose demographics were forever changed by the great black migration of the twentieth century. Not unexpectedly we found a cognitive discontinuity at the city line. Surprising, however, was its magnitude. Whereas suburban mean IQs (86 for blacks, 99 for whites) conform more or less to national norms, city IQs are dreadfully low. With a mean IQ of 76, inner-city blacks fall about 0.6 SD below the African American average nationally. More than a third have death-penalty immunity on grounds of mental retardation. The inner-city white mean of 86 is nearly a full standard deviation below the national white average. By this measure, whites fared worse than blacks. Both groups are seriously deficient in human capital. Neither is very employable. To compound matters, we almost certainly have overstated urban IQs. City residents constitute a low-IQ group extracted from a more cognitively representative population. Their kids, whose test scores we analyzed, should have regressed toward their racial means, i.e., toward higher IQs. That is, inner city kids are smarter than their parents. Accordingly, our estimates of inner-city IQs are best regarded as upper bounds to adult values.

IQ hardens early in life, locking in the urban deficit. With few prospects for improvement, cities must look elsewhere for amelioration. While we all are aware of the advantages that accrue to the brightest among us, we also know that other qualities carry with them inestimable benefits. Traits like honesty, reliability, perseverance and self-discipline, when cultivated contribute to employability and to a more productive life in general. Indeed, for low-skilled jobs these latter qualities are more important than intellect. Unfortunately, casual observation finds such virtues also wanting.

Finally, we note that a problem cannot be solved until it is defined. This we have done. But where we see cognitive inadequacy, some will find only abject, hopeless misery. As for our efforts, we can be certain of only one thing — vilification. It could drive a man to pseudonymity

On Hillary Clinton as a Model for Young Girls

Dennis Prager writes: Given that the former secretary of state used her office to enrich herself and her husband; given that she so willfully compromised national security by setting up her own private email server in order to avoid congressional and public oversight; given that she has repeatedly lied about these actions; given that she lied to the mothers and fathers of the men killed by terrorists in Benghazi; and given that she has a long history of lying (a New York Times columnist called her a “congenital liar” in the 1990s), the notion of Clinton as a model for America’s girls and young women is nothing, if not depressing.

Legendary Lawyers

Steve Sailer writes: It’s hard to be a legendary lawyer outside your state boundaries.

Racehorse Haynes of Houston had a couple of national network miniseries made about his biggest cases in Texas, but he stuck to Texas.

Los Angeles has had famous lawyers like Johnnie Cochran, Gloria Allred, and Mark Geragos, but they stick to L.A.

‘Did you here the one about disgraced Chinese geneticist walking into Hillary’s favorite deli in Chappaqua, with an attempt to shotgun his previous employer who happened to be a dean of Mount Sinai’s medical school?’

NEWS: Revenge may have been the motive in a Monday shooting that left two men injured outside a deli in normally serene Chappaqua.

Hengjun Chao is accused of opening fire outside Lange’s Little Store & Delicatessen at 7 a.m., injuring two men, police said. Dr. Dennis Charney, the dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, was one of the men injured, according to court records and a statement by a Mount Sinai official. Charney fired Chao as an assistant professor and researcher at Mount Sinai in 2010, court records show.

Chao, 49, of Tuckahoe, faces an attempted murder charge. He is being held at Westchester County jail until his next court date Sept. 7. Charney was being treated at an area hospital for non life-threatening injuries Monday evening. The other unidentified shooting victim, a bystander, was treated for injuries and released.

After being fired for research misconduct, Chao lost a federal lawsuit against the Manhattan medical school, co-workers and administrators, including Charney, court records show.

Chao contended he tried to blow the whistle on a colleague for falsifying medical research, but ended up being fired as retaliation, court records show.

Court records show that Chao accused Mount Sinai and administrators of wrongful termination, defamation and discrimination. The lawsuit was seeking at least $171,500 in lost wages and potentially millions of dollars more in other damages.

The medical school launched an investigation of Chao after he accused the colleague of wrongdoing. School investigators contended Chao falsified his own research and he was fired because of the findings, court records show.

Chao contended he was fired in part because of his Chinese heritage. He was born in China, and graduated from Hunan Medical University and Peking Union Medical College before coming to the United States in 1997, court records show.

He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1997 to 2002, when he was hired by Mount Sinai as a researcher, court records show.

Court documents described Chao’s firing as the culmination of a heated battle between Mount Sinai professors in the high-stakes world of medical research.

The medical school’s internal investigation of Chao’s accusations resulted in thousands of pages of testimony by doctors, administrators and lab staff, court records show, and the investigation report concluded that Chao manipulated medical research data.

Chao, who researched blood diseases and cancer, cited his colleagues’ testimony as the reason for the defamation and discrimination claims in the lawsuit. He noted one colleague described him as authoritative because of his Chinese background and “cultural” differences, and others called him remarkably ignorant and sloppy to ruin his reputation, court records show.

Brittanee Drexel, teen who vanished in 2009, was raped, shot, eaten by alligators, FBI says

Fox News: A teenager who vanished from Myrtle Beach, S.C., in 2009 was repeatedly raped in a gang “stash house” for several days – then she was shot dead and fed to alligators when her disappearance generated too much media attention, the FBI said last week.

The shocking new details about the mysterious disappearance of 17-year-old Rochester, N.Y., native Brittanee Drexel came largely from a “jailhouse confession” that was subsequently substantiated by others with “tidbits” and “secondhand information,” FBI Agent Gerrick Munoz testified in a federal court transcript obtained by The Post and Courier.

The inmate who gave the alleged bombshell confession, Taquan Brown, is serving a 25-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in a different case. Brown told authorities he was present during the final agonizing moments of Drexel’s life, Munoz said.

Brown claimed to have seen Drexel when he visited a “stash house” – typically a place used to keep guns, drugs or money – in the McClellanville area, the general location where Drexel’s cellphone last pinged.

Munoz said Brown told officials he saw Da’Shaun Taylor, then 16 years old, and several other men “sexually abusing Brittanee Drexel.” Brown then said he walked to the backyard of the house to give money to Taylor’s father, Shaun Taylor. But as Brown and Shaun Taylor talked, Drexel tried to make a break for it. Her escape attempt was in vain, however, and one of the captors “pistol-whipped” Drexel and carried her back inside the house. Brown said he then heard two gunshots. The next time Brown said he saw Drexel, her body was being wrapped up and removed from the house.

Drexel’s body has never been found, but Munoz said “several witnesses” have told investigators she was dumped in an unspecified McClellanville pond teeming with alligators.

Drexel was last captured on video on April 25, 2009, leaving the Blue Water Hotel in Myrtle Beach, where she was staying against her parents’ permission. A different inmate serving time at Georgetown County Jail told officials he was informed Da’Shaun Taylor picked Drexel up in Myrtle Beach and transported her to McClellanville.

Munoz said the FBI believes Taylor “showed her off, introduced her to some other friend that were there…they ended up tricking her out with some of their friends, offering her to them and getting a human trafficking situation.”

As the media spotlight grew ever brighter on the desperate efforts to find Drexel, the girl was “murdered and disposed of,” Munoz said.

Los Angeles Times:

What’s missing when you hike the California backcountry? People of color

(Los Angeles Times)
Nina Revoyr

Last month, two friends and I backpacked for a week in the Sierra Nevada……..But as the days passed, I grew increasingly troubled by the people we didn’t meet. There were a few Asian hikers, including a couple of hapas like me (I’m half Japanese and half Polish)……….My own relationship with nature began in the Midwest. As a child, I was sent from Tokyo to live with my grandparents in rural Wisconsin. I faced incessant, sometimes violent bullying from the white children in town.….America’s wildest, most beautiful places, though, are still largely white. One way to change that is simple exposure……..Finally, diversifying the outdoors matters because equity and access matter. People of color, particularly children of color, deserve the same possibility of beauty and transcendence as white people……..In July, I hiked up the wind-blown mountain passes, through shaded forests, beside alpine lakes. These places are among the loveliest gifts our country has to offer. They belong to us too.

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* I grew increasingly troubled by the people we didn’t meet.

There it is again, that liberal word – ‘troubled’. The most insipid feeling imaginable. Like celery flavoured water.

See also: ‘puzzled’.

* I’m troubled by her poor grasp of grammar.

* Nina Revoyr – half Japanese and half Polish.

Lots of Japanese girls are very pretty. Lots of Polish girls are very pretty. So mix the two sets of genes and you get:

* Half-Japs can get a kind of square-jaw thing going on, particularly when the dad is Asiatic. That said, I think you’re going a bit out of the way for a cheap shot. She’s completely ordinary looking.

* “The loveliest gifts our country has to offer”..

Since she left Tokyo as a child to come here, how is it “her country”? And how exactly are whites keeping coloreds from back packing the Sierra Nevada’s? Black back packers matter?

* She just looks like a very unattractive white woman to me.

* She looks like a plain, aging, middle aged butch white woman. I thought she’d be much less attractive from your setup.

* I dated a half-Japanese (mom) half-American (dad) gal once; quite lovely and lithe. My own daughter is half-me (Celto-Germanic-Slavic) and half SE Asian, so she gets the European height and the SE Asian dusky hue; and her facial features are quite exotically attractive (not that I’m bragging or anything!). Fortunately for my wife and I, she’s conventional and conservative with boys, so I don’t need to post a shotgun by the front door…

WP: ‘ESPN president is guiding the sports behemoth through a shifting landscape’

Washington Post: “John Skipper has led ESPN since 2012 and his fingerprints are all over the network, one of the most successful media properties in the world. But as subscriptions fall, the business model upon which ESPN was built may be going away, and Skipper must navigate what could be the most challenging period the company has seen since it launch nearly 37 years ago.”

Nothing in the profile mentions how Skipper, an Ashkenazi Jew, has increasingly led ESPN in a left-wing and anti-white direction.

ESPN Wastes No Time Going Political at ESPYs

You planned to have a smoke, maybe walk the dog before the ESPYs got in full swing. Figuring that ESPN would at least recap some of the year in sports before putting on display their craven and gratuitous sellout to radical, racial activism.

Well, you guessed wrong.

NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, and LeBron James derailed the evening of expected jockular festivities, instead redirecting the crazy train that ESPN has become down the tracks of athlete activism:

“Tonight is a celebration of sports. Celebrating our accomplishments and our victories. But in this moment of celebration, we asked to start the night this way. The four us of talking to our fellow athletes with the country walking. We can’t ignore the state of America. Putting a spotlight of the injustice. The violence is not new, and the racial divide is not new. But the urgency to create change is at an all-time high.

We stand here accepting that our role is to be the example you need. Husbands, brothers, fathers, husbands, and an an African-American man, and with an uncle that’s a police officer. But Trayvon Martin. Michael Brown. Tamir Rice. Eric Garner. Laquan McDonald. Alton Sterling. Philando Castile. Athletes like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Arthur Ashe, and countless others, we choose to follow in their foot steps.

The racial profiling has to stop. The shoot to kill mentality has to stop. Not seeing the value of black and brown bodies has to stop. But also the retaliation has to stop. The endless gun violence, in places like Chicago, Dallas, not to mention Orlando, it has to stop. Enough. Enough is enough. Now, as athletes, it’s on us to do even more than we already do in our own community. The conversation can not stop as our schedules get busy again. It won’t always be convenient or comfortable, but it is necessary.

We all feel helpless and frustrated by the violence. But that’s not acceptable. It’s time to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, what are we doing to create change? I know tonight, we’re going to honor Muhammad Ali, the G.O.A.T. But to do his legacy any justice, let’s use this as a call to action to educate ourselves, explore these issues, speak up, use our influence, and renounce all violence. And go back to our communities, invest our time, our resources, help rebuild them, help strengthen them, help change them. We all have to do better. Thank you.”

John Calipari has nothing on this nakedly craven recruiting drive. These four athletes are now the Four Horsemen of the Jock-Pocalypse. Racial profiling must stop? How did racial profiling have anything to do with Michael Brown or Alton Sterling? Michael Brown was approached by police for walking down the middle of the  street, blocking traffic, not because of profiling. Alton Sterling was approached because he had 911 called on him.

The shoot to kill mentality? Must not be catching on considering black deaths at the hands of the police are down 75% since 1999.

And the devaluing of black and brown bodies? Does that devaluation factor in that more white bodies are shot by the police than black every year?

Granola Is Dessert

I love granola! I wonder if the sugar is balanced with fats and protein, it does not negatively affect your blood sugar levels as much?

SFGATE: “Protein and fats by themselves do not affect blood sugar, but their nutritional impact might also help to mitigate the blood sugar effects of carbohydrates. According to a study published in 2006 in “The Journal of Nutrition,” when between 5 and 30 grams of protein or fat is added to a 50-gram intake of pure glucose, blood sugar responses significantly decrease, with protein having an effect approximately three times greater than that of fat. While this study was done with dissolved nutrients rather than solid food, it indicates that protein and fat could independently help control blood glucose impact when consumed with carbohydrates.”

I have no expertise in nutrition, but that is my personal experience. I used to have pre-diabetes (blood sugar levels around 106). By cutting out fruit juice and making sure I have protein at every meal, I’ve reduced my blood sugar levels into the 80s.

New York Times:

A cup of Nature Valley Oats ’n Honey Protein Granola has 24 grams of sugar and actually contains more sugar than protein by weight. Nature Valley also has a Peanut Butter ’n Dark Chocolate Protein Granola that has 30 grams of sugar per cup. Bear Naked Honey Almond Granola has 20 grams of sugar per cup.

By comparison, a slice of chocolate cake with frosting has 26 grams of sugar. A cup of ice cream has 28 grams of sugar. A regular Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut has 10 grams of sugar, according to the Krispy Kreme website…

Dr. Jackson was a health reformer who ran a sanitarium in Dansville, N.Y. — about 80 miles east of Buffalo — where he advocated vegetarianism and a diet of simple foods. His granula was probably not very tasty by today’s standards. But giving up ham and griddlecakes for simple grains often relieved indigestion and made a lot of people feel better, Ms. Carroll said.

Eventually, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, another health reformer who owned a rival sanitarium in Michigan, stole Dr. Jackson’s recipe. When Dr. Jackson sued, Dr. Kellogg changed the name of his cereal to granola, which he and his brother, Will Keith Kellogg, experimented with, leading to the creation of cornflakes.

Dr. Kellogg wanted to keep his cereals sugar-free — he was a Seventh-day Adventist who famously advocated against alcohol, meat, sugar, tobacco and sexual activity. But his brother, Will, insisted on sweetening them, and the two parted ways. Will went on to launch the Kellogg Company, and its enormously popular sweet cereals, which eventually included Froot Loops and Cocoa Krispies.

While sugary cereals soared in popularity over the following decades, granola remained a mainstay in the Seventh-day Adventist community, which is known to shun foods high in sugar, salt and other additives. Packaged granola is believed to have first appeared in the 1960s when one Adventist and granola promoter, Layton Gentry — nicknamed Johnny Granola-Seed by Time magazine — sold his recipe of rolled oats, wheat germ and sesame seeds to two food companies. As granola crossed over from the Seventh-day Adventist community to the mainstream, it became increasingly laden with sugar.

Invade The World, Invite The World

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* If you want the government to meddle in domestic affairs, you’re a liberal.
If you want the government to meddle in foreign affairs, you’re a conservative.
If you want the government to meddle in domestic and foreign affairs, you’re a moderate.
If you want the government to meddle nowhere, you’re an extremist.

* Whichever party has been in power, they have pursued a policy of invade the world and invite the world. Hence Steve is right to focus on and attack that sick combination of policies, even if there are obviously people who have the combination of viewpoints that you mention.

* Re-electing McCain is not in the interests of Arizonans, either, if they don’t think it’s in their interest to have more of their kids and grandkids needlessly killed, maimed, or traumatized in unnecessary, nondefensive, unauthorized wars. Arizonans also pay interest– soon to be much higher interest — on the massive deficit spending McCain has supported and still advocates. Arizonans are also physically, economically, and culturally harmed and marginalized by the in going waves of legal and illegal aliens from the third world whom McCain loves to let in, more than people in most states.

To vote against McCain in the primary, then, it’s not even necessary to consider the interests of the whole country. Arizonans’ interests don’t lie with McCain, either.

* You would think that they would update your Wikipedia page to indicate that you originated the meme: Invade the world, Invite the world.

I mean, it seems more important than shortening Alternative Right to Alt-Right.

* Interesting how McCain is generally held up by the media as the Maverick Republican who fully embraces “Invade the World, Invite the World”. There is a strange aura to McCain and his unique appeal to Beltway journalists. In many ways, Beltway journalists have always been McCain’s base of support. Frankly, McCain’s appeal never made any sense to me.

It looks like McCain’s military record has a few holes in it which would make him somewhat vulnerable to blackmail, but the key hole in his record is likely his marriage to Cindy McCain. Cindy McCain’s father, Jim Hensley, built a massive fortune on an exclusive Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship and a horse racetrack operation likely with a little help from organized crime.

Always interesting what names do not seem to warrant a Wikipedia page. The patron sponsor of Jim Hensley was Kemper Marley, a long time Arizona political king maker with some shadowy connections. It looks like Jim Hensley was rewarded the lucrative beer distributorship for taking the fall for Kemper Marley in an earlier illegal alcohol distribution operation. Kemper Marley was on the board of directors of the bank that would finance Bugsy Siegel’s Flamingo Casino. Despite his long influence in Arizona politics and the Arizona history museum that bears his name, Kemper Marley lacks a Wikipedia entry for some reason.

On June 2, 1976, investigative journalist, Don Bolles, was the victim of a car bombing in Phoenix, Arizona, likely tied to organized crime. Although never proven, allegations were that the attack was in connection with Bolles investigation of Kemper Marley. Bolles last words were “They finally got me. The Mafia. Emprise. Find John.”

Emprise exists today as Delaware North (after the address of their headquarters in Buffalo, New York) and continues to operate casinos, hotel and other attractions. In 1971, Emprise and other mafia associates were found to be illegal “secret” partners in the Frontier Casino back in the 1960′s. One of the “straight” owners of the Frontier in the 1960′s was a young Steve Wynn. The mob interests in the Frontier Casino, including Emprise, were bought out by Howard Hughes and his Mormon handlers in 1967.

Nice little anecdote. Most of the major casinos “in” Las Vegas are not actually in Las Vegas, but in Paradise, Nevada. The original name of the Frontier Casino was the “Pair-O-Dice” nightclub. I never thought of that pun.

Regardless, maybe the reason McCain is the perpetual choice of the Establishment and Beltway journalists is that he married into a family fortune with deep organized crime connections.

Puts things in perspective.

* Being a US Senator must be amazing. Imagine being 80 and being married to an heiress worth 9-figures. You’d figure that relaxing and spending her money would be an attractive proposition, but he’d rather spend another 6 years in the Senate.
