The Great Men On Women’s Little Passions

From the Chateau:

Via reader oldfury, a Chesterfield warning on the dangers of reorienting one’s foremost purpose to the objective of empowering women.

As women are a considerable, or at least a pretty numerous part of company; and as their suffrages go a great way toward establishing a man’s character in the fashionable part of the world (which is of great importance to the fortune and figure he proposes to make in it), it is necessary to please them.

I will therefore, upon this subject, let you into certain Arcana that will be very useful for you to know, but which you must, with the utmost care, conceal and never seem to know.

Women, then, are only children of a larger growth; they have an entertaining tattle, and sometimes wit; but for solid reasoning, good sense, I never knew in my life one that had it, or who reasoned or acted consequentially for four-and-twenty hours together. Some little passion or humor always breaks upon their best resolutions. Their beauty neglected or controverted, their age increased, or their supposed understandings depreciated, instantly kindles their little passions, and overturns any system of consequential conduct, that in their most reasonable moments they might have been capable of forming.

A man of sense only trifles with them, plays with them, humors and flatters them, as he does with a sprightly forward child; but he neither consults them about, nor trusts them with serious matters; though he often makes them believe that he does both; which is the thing in the world that they are proud of; for they love mightily to be dabbling in business (which by the way they always spoil); and being justly distrustful that men in general look upon them in a trifling light, they almost adore that man who talks more seriously to them, and who seems to consult and trust them; I say, who seems; for weak men really do, but wise ones only seem to do it.

-Lord Chesterfield in a letter to his son

Chesterfield here is essentially arguing for restricted female agency, and therefore the necessity to men of wisely shielding women from matters of true importance – like immigration policy – while pretending as if women’s counsel was desired.

Feminine women don’t really desire, as beta males are wont to believe, full egalitarian inclusion in serious business or political decisions. Having it bores them and they often rebel by deciding for changes that subvert the bounty for which they were charged by obsequious, supplicating men to protect and preserve. What women really love is the man who “trifles with them”, but also assuages their fear that their instinctive female predilection for flirtation and little passions won’t be exploited to embarrass them in polite company as frivolities.

‘Indian/Paki women seem to be natural feminists.’

Comments:

In addition Indian chicks in america also carry the same attitude that DC chicks have. I’m educated, I’m not a sexual being, my pride is in having 2 degrees, and I want a wealthy educated man to spend money on me. In addition Indian chicks in the USA can be very cocky with guys or tease them for pursuing sex. Another no no of feminimity.

From what I’ve seen (mind you this is ONLY professional y dealing with them as customers) they’re VERY high maintenance and most seem to quickly westernize and jump on the “lets be fat and wear sweatpants” bandwagon.

They’re wack and are usually ugly.

Indian girls are like American girls on steroids. No thanks.

Sometimes on a first date, after I’ve already made out with a girl, I’ll stop her mid-walk, grab her and kiss briefly. The only girl who cuntily laughed at this was Indian. “What, you wanted to just kiss me again” or something to that effect. She was pretty, and very thin, but I never contacted her again.

Another problem, at least in my area, is that good looking Indian women are rare as fuck. I mean, every now and then there will be one where you’re like, holy shit she’s banging, but they’re few and far between, and the rest are ugly.

I’d be interested to see what you guys have noticed, because as far as I’ve noticed, Indian women by and large are just not good looking.

Indian women’s personality issues are just as bad if not worse than their lacking in the good looks department.

they tend to chub up pretty easily. Additionally, they love white guys more than other races from what I’ve seen.

Meanwhile brown girls are just like Jewish and Persian girls in that they’re more status seeking and materialistic except they’re not as attractive (that’s not me being biased against other brown people, everybody here agrees that brown girls on the whole aren’t hot) which makes the attitudes they sport hard to put up with.

A lot of the hot brown girls I know who are born and raised in the West LOVE acting ghetto when in reality they’re far from it. They think they are African American. Anyway they are really Westernized and predominately hang out with other wannabe ghetto brown girls or wannabe ghetto white girls. They grow out of that after they finish university. Brown girls very much prefer dating other brown guys and at least at my age don’t seem to care whether or not they’re Indian or Sri Lankan or Pakistani. They get a fuckload of attention from pathetic hordes of ultra beta and needy brown guys and as such develop gigantic egos. They get passed around by the few player brown guys and wannabe ghetto white guys (mainly Italian and Greek in my neck of the woods) all the while pretending to be ultra innocent to all their brown male friends. If they knew how slutty some of the girls they idolate so much are they would probably kill themselves. They put them on the pedestal THAT much.

* One of the first things I noticed after moving to Vancouver was that all (most) of the White people I befriended man and woman alike, while your standard PC Canadian, would without prompting say:

“I f’n hate brown people.” Humorously it was often prefaced by “I’m not racist but…”

I came to the conclusion it was proximity. Kind of like how Americans catch heat both at home and abroad for “racism” against blacks.

Try livin’ next to ‘em. I certainly understood the browns’ reputation after working a hotel for 4 years in downtown Van.

* Very recently I was enlightened by an Indian coworker on the subject of backward castes. “Only in India do people strive to be backward”. He was obviously very indignant about his classmates who were several generations from “backward” status and who still benefit from their disadvantage. Just this year, there were riots near Delhi as a clan of Indians lobbied for “backward” status and set-asides. This won’t last.

* Progressive millennial Indians of the sort that browse and contribute to Buzzfeed are a vanishingly small minority in India; typically Westernized rich kids from the big cities with expensive educational credentials on their resumes and much wisdom derived from blogging. Not all that different from progressive millennials in America, the main difference being that in India, they have virtually no political power or ability to influence the grand narratives that drive electoral politics in the country. They are vastly outnumbered by the poor, and the poor are all segregated along various tribal interests, whether caste or religion or language. The only progressive party with a national scope they could join is the Congress, which is fading thanks to the incompetence of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Meanwhile, the reactionary right-wing BJP rises to power because of the Hindutva heartlands, and their stance on caste may charitably be compared to Reagan’s stance on race.

It’s a different situation in America where progressive millennials wield not-inconsiderable cultural power, even if they don’t vote enough to have much political power.

* On the contrary this, i.e. large scale affirmative action for low castes and ‘other backward castes’, has been in place for more than six decades in India, with up to 50% of jobs and college slots in some situations being set aside for that purpose.

The reactionary right in India has introduced the term “creamy layer” into political dialogue. The idea is that there be a both an income and a caste test for affirmative action quotas and reservations. The creamy layer, of course, is those who are now part of the mainstream middle and upper classes, but technically still from “backward” castes.

A US analogy would be shutting down affirmative action benefits in college admissions to African Americans from comfortably off middle-class and professional families. They would be deemed to be the creamy layer that has already risen to the top of their cohort.

Not surprisingly, the left in India is screaming murder at the idea and trying to discredit it vigorously.

Incidentally, I love how Indian legal and constitutional terminology doesn’t flinch at using the word “backward” in describing groups of people.

* There are several forms of Hinduism and only some of them can be properly termed as reactionary. The main orthodox current within Hinduism, that of Vedic ritualism, is descended from the very reactionary indo-european culture that spread through war and patriarchy.

Hinduism gradually evolved to become more liberal as the warriors settled down and became wealthy, and also accepted influences from other cultures into itself. At this point, the Hindu civilization gave rise to “protestant” religions like Buddhism. The following thousand years saw orthodox Hinduism adopt increasingly reactionary poses to distinguish itself from Buddhism, which in several ways foreshadowed today’s liberal progressivism. This is when the current form of the caste system became codified.

Meanwhile, non-orthodox Hindus reinterpreted their religion to make it more liberal and open, thereby leading many Buddhists to reconvert to Hinduism. The larger Hindu fold therefore contained about an even mix of reactionaries and progressives after the fall of Buddhism towards the end of the 1st millennium CE.

After that we had a thousand years of foreign rule, first 800 years of Muslims, then 200 years of the British. And one thing we see everywhere is that non-dominant cultures have to adopt very reactionary social mores in order to survive. Blacks and hispanics are far more right-wing in their innate social worldviews than Whites. As are Muslims who live in the west, compared to whites and to Muslims who live in Muslim countries. Same thing happened with Hindus in India.

* The entire system of arranged marriages is basically a form of eugenics, but by another name. The most important qualification parents look for in a prospective match is “what sort of family are they from?”. Meaning they want to have a marital alliance with a family of equal or higher social status. This usually requires the family be from the same caste that they are, in addition to wealth and connections. Each caste, no matter how low its standing in the hierarchy, considers itself quite unique and would be displeased with intermarriage, even if it were with a member of a higher caste.

The second question is usually related to level of education, and the third to income and earning potential. Height and skin color are also given importance – because subconsciously all Indians realize that their ruling class consists disproportionately of fairer-skinned and taller people.

Appearance and compatibility, the cornerstones of western marriages, are not considered particularly important when parents pick mates for their children in India.

I know all this first hand because my mother is trying to arrange a marriage for me. I’ve finally come round to admitting that her ideas are actually quite wise.

* Buddy of mine has this huge house next door to his place. It went in and out of foreclosure a few times after 2008. Finally, an Indian buys the place. He moves his extended family into the house. There are cars everywhere, people coming and going at all times, etc.

My buddy and the other wags in his neighborhood now refer to that house as The Call Center.

Tribe

Comment: Anyone see this author Sebastian Junger on PBS Newshour? He’s got a book out called Tribe about community..can’t even define tribe – no reference to extended family or race..jeesh. Does he have any idea where the aboriginal tribes came from?

He said our tribes need to be more diverse. Gah.

* If you’re waiting for a kumbaya moment don’t hold your breath. Nature doesn’t care for them.

* I actually, know him. He’s complex, and a very good guy. He is extremely intense and, in my opinion, may not “present well” on TV. His books are good. When he was a graduate student in the mid 80′s he wrote a very good book which is unlike any of his “War” books (or movie) of the last 10 or so years, “The Perfect Storm.” Anyway, Junger is a free spirit, beholden to no ideological camp. He is more a cultural anthropologist in his approach to the idea of “tribe.” He goes into the philosophy of the idea of “tribe,” not origin…does that make sense?

* So beautiful to see DC politicians set aside their largely superficial differences and stand united against Trump!

* Trump’s only ties to the working class are the thousands of them he employed in various business ventures. #Fraud

* As one of the chief architects and main beneficiaries of it, who’s better positioned to topple the DC status quo than Hillary? #ImWithHer

* Populism seems to be polling pretty well right now so join Secretary Clinton’s quest to shake up Washington and stick it to those DC elites!

* Trump can try to regulate immigration all he wants, but the simplest way to fight terrorism is to create a world without hate or conflict.

* Our hearts break tonight for #Istanbul, which was suicide bombed by HATEFUL EXTREMISTS unaffiliated with any particular religious tradition.

COMMENTS AT STEVE SAILER:

* I doubt if pointing out her wealth and privilege-related hypocrisies is going to ding her brand much. Her core followers tend to be either aggrieved banshees who think the problem is actually Hillary not getting enough power/riches as deserved; or they are fairly privileged themselves, not likely to hold it against her.

A more promising avenue is her media aura of contempt for vast swathes of the electorate (or off-the-rez extremists who are not who we are). Granted, this quality didn’t hurt Obama either but his disdain was more offhand and clubbable. Hillary’s humorless-charmless self-righteous snits could be turned against her, Leona Helmsley-style. Unfortunately on current evidence DJT is characterologically disqualified to thread that needle. It would be like Larry David telling someone to lighten up and quit whining.

* A really inside joke in our Friends Of Steve Sailer (F.O.S.S.) meet-up group in DC is that Steve’s alter-ego on twitter would be exactly the OPPOSITE of his blog-persona – more like the rapid fire give and take of, say, @JohnRiversToo, than the nice guy shivving of @DemsRRealRacist (who is a laid back Southerner according to his interview in the Daily Caller). Maybe after one cup of coffee, rather than the can of Natty Light at 10pm PST.

Steve Sailer: Creators of “Zootopia” Intended It Originally as an Allegory on Stifling Political Correctness

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* People are discomfited by the implied blackness of the predators. Even though the thrust is sympathetic to them and mocks the prey’s fear as hysterical, the implication is that it’s unfortunate blacks have to wear shock collars (which obviously represent white laws and norms) and would be nice if there was a place where they could go and be their “wild” selves.
Amazing these brilliant guys can miss the giant pile of sh-t they were approaching.

But I still want to see the politically incorrect cut.

* Of course the public schools do have their equivalent of the shock collar – they’re called drugs for ADD, AHDD, etc. Take and drug the snot out of every above average white kid that are bored in school to the point they’re zombies, the same with the ones who realized public schooling is a joke and mentally checked years earlier.

Suspension is another modern shock collar – eat a pop tart into the shape of a gun, play cowboys and Indians and you get a visit to the principal’s office and interrogated by a cop, then suspended. Oh yeah the kids parents(if they are white) get chewed on too. If they complain, the PoPo kicks them around.

The corporate world has it’s own ‘shock collar’ – it’s called being fired. And thanks to the internet you better not let your identity become known so your boss can monitor what you write on your blog or facebook.

It doesn’t help when management has surveillance cameras installed all over the workplace and have RFID’s in the employee ID cards so they can be tracked.

Bet it gets better!! Say you get involved in some heated public debate, say on trannies using girls bathrooms. God help you if the Left finds out where you work and starts calling your boss and HR – you’re dead meat.

It ‘s a wonderful Orwellian system, it’s no wonder people drop off the grid rather than put up with that soul killing garbage we call society.

When this system blows and it will, it’s going to be bloody given all the pent up anger out there.

* Of mild interest regarding A Clockwork Orange, from Wikipedia:

“The soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange features mostly classical music selections and Moog synthesizer compositions by Wendy Carlos (then known as Walter Carlos). The artwork of the now-iconic poster of A Clockwork Orange was created by Philip Castle with the layout by designer Bill Gold.”

It looks like Wendy transitioned quite awhile ago.

* Walter did some groundbreaking work. His Switched-on Bach, Clockwork Orange and Sonic Seasonings albums were brilliant. Interestingly his oeuvre pretty much died out after the gender transition. Could it have been the hormonal changes, or it was just coincidence that he made the change as was getting older and would have been fading anyway? I know that historically men have been generally more productive in music and other arts, but you wouldn’t think that the machinery of a creative mind would be all that affected by hormonal changes after it had been wired as an adult.

* I thought Wendy continued to do good work with the Tron soundtrack, Digital Moonscapes, and Beauty in the Beast. It’s in later work like Tales of Heaven & Hell that I finally see slippage.

* As movie studios become nothing more than giant commercials for toys, games, videos, well that stuff won’t sell if its PC, and particularly not in China. Which is not very PC. China reputedly banned interracial marriage (but only for women) and is not very big on the Gay Thing, neighbor Singapore which is culturally quite close in attitudes made Goldman Sachs, Facebook, and Microsoft drop sponsorship of a gay pride festival and parade.

If the point of these animated movies is to sell toys, games, lunchboxes, whatever to Chinese kids (or rather their parents) well good luck pushing gay agendas, PC inclusion, and the like.

And I fully expect the merchandising model to expand to television as well.

In a lot of ways stuff like Zootopia has been the function of a protected market — which for a variety of reasons is going away rapidly in favor of a defacto Chinese one with Chinese attitudes.

TL:DR version — its all Tiger Mothers and Eagle Dads, all the way down.

* A fellow was bragging to another about the new society that had been created, where the lions lie down with the lambs. That caught the attention of the skeptical listener, and he responded, “so the lions are lying down the lambs? How’s that working out?” Perfectly, replied the first guy, “except, every now and then, we have to replace the lamb.”

Jews Rule The World

Little old Jewish lady sees her husband looking at his laptop, nodding and smiling. She looks over his shoulder and sees he’s on the Stormfront website.
“Murray, why are you reading that Nazi trash?”
“Because it’s full of wonderful news.”
“Wonderful news?!”
“Sure, it says here that the Holocaust never happened, and the Jews run the world!”

COMMENTS AT STEVE SAILER:

* James Traub: “The reformed center would include the beneficiaries of globalization and the poor and non-white and marginal citizens who recognize that the celebration of national identity excludes them.”

* That’s the money quote. He bares it all, up until now the sociopaths like Traub were terrified of being exposed for what they are. He see’s the elite leading a mass of rootless, stupid 3rd worlders and impoverished natives.

In his and the globalist world, there is no place for culture, community or nationalism. Or for that matter white blue collars or middle-class people at all. They should have no vote in anything. Only the elites should.

He’s a tyrant in waiting and a traitor to all this country has stood for.

* You have to wonder how the world would look if these elite, wealthy Jews like Traub would stop trolling us in favor of policies damaging to the interests of ordinary white people.

* I saw the second part of a two part report by PBS on the Brexit. The first segment which I missed was pro Brexit and the second which I saw was Remain. Of the 5 or 6 people they interviewed who were Remain, not a single one was English. Based on last names, they interviewed a Jew, and Irishwoman, an Indian, and a couple of other people who visibly non English. The person doing the report did not connect the dots. Possibly on the first report they did by complaining about nativism or some such but they just could not understand why the Brexit crowd feels they way they did.

* Soros is entirely correct. The actions by Merkel precipitated the British vote.

It’s not like Soros is opposed to mass immigration. He sponsors multiple organizations devoted to mass immigration and settlement. But, Merkel forgot the principle of the frog in a pot of water over a fire: you heat the water slowly, so the frog never feels the change. Merkel displayed her hubris by thumbing her nose at the proletariat who actually had to live with her policies.

In point of fact, the vast population of Muslims already in England were brought over entirely by British governments. The EU had nothing to do with it. Even with Britain out of the EU, it is entirely possible that mass migration of Muslims into Britain will continue.

Soros was mad at Merkel for displaying her hand too openly. She should have drawn the mass migrations out over a few more years, and made a display of turning back a few boatloads, at least until the Brexit vote. It might even cost Merkel her future Presidency of the EU when she leaves her post as Chancellor of Germany.

* We younger American Ashkenazi Jews are failing to live up to potential in the opinions of Messrs. Unz and Reed. In the future, the most gifted will probably be Asian. Regardless, even in the here and now only elite and connected Jews have the potential for national influence. In smaller Jewish community settings, politically conservative Jews get shut down almost immediately by the far more numerous liberal Jews who aren’t remotely eager to hear what the conservatives have to say. That’s why I have nothing to do with my local Jewish community. Better to be a recluse than actively hated.

Steve Sailer: Is #BlackLivesMatter Just a Jobs for the Gays Racket?

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* In Bonfire of the Vanities, Reverend Bacon, the Al Sharpton character, enlists the aid of Gay Rights groups to help stage protests against the NYPD and Sherman McCoy. Either this gay and black activist connection is a case of life imitating art, or this trend has been going on for a long time.

* Federal bling.

One city, one program, one payout. Over $837 million of that went to Nick Mosby’s Council district.

This is the direction that school districts and state colleges have been going for 30 years, accelerated in the past 15.

It represents a more rapid and intense federal transfer of wealth than ever. And nitwit minor celebrities like “Deray” making fat six figures “managing” “human capital.”

“Human capital”–that’s property, right? Like, you know, people as slaves?

* TPTB like to put a lot of blacks in school as it supports THE NARRATIVE. It brainwashes kids ata young age that blacks are intelligent and competent, when IRL they are the exact opposite.

One way they do this is by getting lots of black ‘doctors’ in school. Typically dumb and incompetent blacks get called ‘doctor’. It turns out blacks get bog standard BA degrees then do a PhD in education. These tend to be uber leftist, anti-White (((colleges))) where you simply write a Narrative essay. Kids don’t know that and assume ‘dr’ teaching them science actually has a science doctorate. BS.

Dance Moms is a prime example of this. Mother of the incompetent token black kid is ‘Dr Holly’. The other moms are alwats in awe of her, yet she doesn’t strike me as at all bright. Clearly just another smoke and mirrors to get impressionable White girls to worship blacks.

* BLM is just following in the path blazed by the Rainbow Coalition (although I guess that has gay overtones in its name) in shaking down various institutions and corporations in exchange for being exempt from criticism. My guess is DeRay was half hired because the morons in charge of the school system think an administrator of human capital could actually accomplish something and half because he’s not going to criticize the city from the inside.

If DeRay has the slightest bit of intellectual honesty and actually works at his job, he’ll come out of it hating the professional left and what it has wrought in once-great cities. I’m not holding my breath, though.

* America’s colleges now have sharply lower standards of evidence for rape accusations. Thx to repeated rape hoaxes.

* The point of propaganda battles is to control society. All colleges are adopting lower stds of evidence for rape.

* Crazy attracts crazy. Assortative mating for major psychiatric diagnoses in two population-based samples.

* UVA’s Rape Hoax is especially depressing because we exposed the hoax as entirely a lie – a total fabrication – and the Feminists won anyway.

Siskel & Ebert & the Protestants

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* What a shocker that Siskel is way more upset about it than Ebert.

* Ebert was smarter and more self-aware than Siskel.

* Siskel comes off as unhinged, irrational, and completely emotional about it. While Ebert seems to be trying to be light about it, Siskel seems dead serious.

* I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. This “Jew + Catholic gang up on the WASPs” stuff used to be so normal—friendly banter among three diverse peoples, equal in dignity and self-confidence in late 20th century America.

Heaven help anyone who tried this today…

* That was my initial thought, too … Poor Siskel is probably suffering from his brain tumor.

But then I looked it up:

“Siskel was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor on May 8, 1998. … Siskel died from complications of another surgery at the age of 53 on February 20, 1999.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Siskel

But in this clip Ebert mentions the President is Irish (i.e., Reagan), so this was almost a decade before Siskel’s diagnosis or more.

* I remember the Roger Ebert separate interview. Roger said that on their show, before they went on the air, Gene would make a show of getting upset with Roger about some thing or the other. Roger had the insight to realize that this was a pretend put-on by Siskel, designed to raise his own emotional energy level for the show. Joan Rivers responded that Roger was a nice guy. I realized that Siskel was a manipulative asshole.

* Siskel’s favorite movie—I shit you not—was Saturday Night Fever. He even went so far as to buy Travolta’s disco suit from the movie. I lost all respect for the man when I heard that.

Either Siskel had a secret attraction to men or he had a weird longing to hang out at an Italian-ghetto version of 54, but either way, he let that cloud his judgment on what was a silly little movie.

It’s amazing that these two guys who essentially did product reviews got such cultural cache.

* Ebert seems to be more relaxed and chatty, but Siskel stays in character and is the better comic talent, IMHO.

It’s a type pairing as old as American TV and double act comedy. The angry, earnest, slightly dim guy and the relaxed, smart, smiling counterpart. Ed McMahon to Johnny Carson, Jerry Hubbard to Barth Gimble and the Smothers Brothers are three random examples.

* Ebert is more intelligent than Siskel but Siskel is very aware of his act and knows how to work it.

Ah, for the days when ethnic groups could just vent off steam about each other right in public. Makes for a better world.

* Ebert was the best movie reviewer of his time, possibly ever. When I was a kid I had a bible-sized compilation of Ebert movie reviews, and eventually I think I read the whole thing, many reviews more than once. The quality of Ebert’s writing was very high, but you had to read a lot of him to realize this. He does not show off with obscure words or obscure references like WF Buckley or Dennis Miller as extreme examples of these annoying techniques.

In terms of simply enjoying his prose, my favorite Ebert reviews were probably his rare “no stars” reviews, generally for movies that were both really bad and morally offensive.

Even now, when I feel like watching a movie, I just go to the online archive of Ebert reviews and read through a few 4-star reviews until I see one that seems to be worth reading.

For TV, however, Ebert is usually too quiet and low energy to sustain one’s attention, which you can see by watching clips of Ebert alone v. with Siskel. They had great chemistry and Siskel knew how to bring out the best in his partner.

* All in the Family was pretty great in its era, five years straight at #1, but it’s not watchable today. I’m not sure why.

* From the perspective of someone younger seeing shows from the 50s to early 80′s in reruns:

The best of the wacky sitcoms have aged pretty well: I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show, Mr. Ed, Bewitched, Green Acres, Dennis the Menace

The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents had big budgets and very talented writers and actors and completely transcend their era.

The Dick Van Dyke show had two of the best comedians at their prime and a lot of witty writing.

The Donna Reed Show, Little House on the Prairie and My Three Sons all had traditional, positive moral messages while still being entertaining.

In general I wish Americans, especially children, would watch older shows like these more, as they invariably depicted white Americans as a fundamentally good people, just the opposite of how we are now portrayed on television.

* There was an oddball (and offensively hilarious, since it is unusual to see popular media types put on the spot and out of character) interview of Siskel and Ebert by Howard Stern that might still be found somewhere. Stern was good at antagonizing his “guests” to elicit a rabid response and with Siskel and Ebert he was true to form.

In the interview, Stern starts off with friendly enough banter but soon begins interrogating Ebert about having a black girlfriend, questioning Ebert about his “jungle fever”. Then Stern remarks that he was shocked and surprised that Ebert had a black girlfriend, not because the woman was black, but because he thought Ebert was gay.

Ebert, visibly shocked, then weakly counters that he thought Stern was gay, and the interview deteriorates from that point on into pointed attacks back and forth.

Ebert soon cleverly shifts the subject to Howard Stern’s behavior and character, stating that “this is not the real Howard Stern that we are seeing with his abusive and derogatory manner.” Stern, being the narcissistic fellow that he is, takes the bait and the discussion becomes all about Howard Stern, leaving Siskel and Ebert to quickly vacate.

You can imagine the two media pundits Siskel and Ebert openly walking into what they think will be an easy and amusing time, only to be broadsided with abuse and calumny, all in the name of ratings and dubious taste.

* No less an unz.com luminary than the Derb has gone to the mat for the brilliant greatness of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. It is very much in the same vein as ON THE WATERFRONT — a film about working-class white people making consequential choices about their lives. The kind of people Hollywood doesn’t make films about anymore. The kind of people who are waking up this year, in case you haven’t been reading this blog.

* Siskel graduated as a philosophy major at Yale in 67, when Yale meant something besides being PC Central. He’s no dullard. And he’s likely the equal or superior to Ebert IQ wise too.

He was also a regular at Bulls games in late 70′s until his death. He was far more eclectic in his tastes than was Ebert.

* Gene Siskel actually comes out against political correctness when it comes to profiling Arab terrorists in his review and banter with Ebert on the movie The Siege.
