Bank Of America’s AIDS-Free Campaign

I walked into a Bank of America the other day and was assaulted by a big poster featuring three rambunctious blacks and a promotion to end AIDS. This is not really what I want in my bank. I don’t want to think about AIDS when I go to the bank. I don’t want to think about Africa. I don’t want to think about Africans with AIDS.

Sexual Potency, Hormones, and AIDS

An inverse relation is found between the racial pattern reported on brain size and intelligence and that reported in this chapter on gamete production and sexual behavior. Mongoloid populations, who average highest in brain size and intelligence, are lowest in egg production and reproductive effort.

Caucasoids average intermediately. The racial gradient is found on numerous physiological, anatomical, and behavioral measures, including AIDS. Sex hormones may mediate this pattern.

Reproductive Potency

The average woman produces one egg every 28 days in the middle of the menstrual cycle. Some women, however, have shorter cycles than others and some produce two eggs in a cycle. Both events translate into greater fecundity because of the greater opportunities they provide for a conception. Occasionally double ovulation results in the birth of dizygotic (two-egg) twins.

The races differ in the rate at which they double ovulate. Among Mongoloids, the frequency of dizygotic twins per 1,000 births is less than 4, among Caucasoids the rate is 8 per 1,000, and among Negroids the figure is greater than 16 per 1,000, with some African populations having twin frequencies of more than 57 per 1,000 (Bulmer, 1970). Recent reviews of twinning rates in the United States (Allen, 1988) and Japan (Imaizumi, 1992) confirm the racial
differences. Note that the frequency of monozygotic twinning is nearly constant at about 4 per 1,000 in all groups. Monozygotic twinning is the result of a single fertilized egg splitting into two identical parts.

The frequency of three-egg triplets and four-egg quadruplets shows a comparable racial ordering. For triplets, the rate per million births among Mongoloids is 10, among Caucasoids 100, and among Negroids 1,700; and for quadruplets, per million births, among Mongoloids 0, among Caucasoids 1, and among Negroids, 60 (Allen, 1987; Nylander, 1975). Data from racially mixed matings show that multiple births are largely determined by the race of the mother, independently of the race of the father, as found in Mongoloid-
Caucasoid crosses in Hawaii, and Caucasoid-Negroid crosses in Brazil (Bulmer, 1970).

Anatomical differences have often been referred to in the ethnographic record (chap. 5; see also French Army Surgeon, 1898/1972; J. R. Baker, 1974; Lewis, 1990). Reference has been made to the placement of female genitals (Orientals highest, blacks lowest); the angle and texture of erection (Orientals parallel to body and stiff, blacks at right angles to the body and flexible); the size of genitalia (Orientals smallest, blacks largest); and the salience of muscularity, buttocks, and breasts (Orientals least, blacks most).

Rushton and Bogaert (1987) averaged the ethnographic data on erect penis size and estimated them to approximate: Orientals, 4 to 5.5 inches in length (10-14 cm) and 1.25 inches in diameter (3.2 cm); Caucasians, 5.5 to 6 inches in length (14-15.3 cm) and 1.3 to 1.6 inches in diameter (3.3-4.1 cm); blacks, 6.25 to 8 inches in length (15.9-20.3 cm) and 2 inches in diameter (5.1 cm). Women were proportionate to men, with Orientals having smaller vaginas
and blacks larger ones, relative to Caucasians. Variations were noted: in the French West Indies, the size of the penis and vagina covaried with amount of black admixture.

New focus on penis size has come in the wake of the AIDS crisis. It has become increasingly obvious that one size of condom does not fit all. Because condom use is considered an essential element of AIDS prevention, and because condom size is a critical determinant in user satisfaction, both the World Health Organization’s Specifications and Guidelines for Condom Procurement and the United Nations’ International Organization for Standardization have recommended a 49-mm flat width condom for Asia, a 52-mm flat width
for North America and Europe, and a 53-mm size for Africa (e.g., World Health Organization, 1991). China is reported to be manufacturing its own condoms—49 mm, plus or minus 2 mm.
In Thailand, where several ergonomic studies have been conducted, female prostitutes say that size 52 mm condoms bunch up during intercourse causing irritation and adolescent male users report that even 49 mm slip off during intercourse. Other indications are that size 52 mm condoms may be too small for some Caucasian and African men. As a result of such information, studies are currently underway to establish typical penis size and shape in various parts of the world (e.g., Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, 1992).
The research currently available suggests that at least three sizes are needed to cover the 10th to 90th percentile, based on Kinsey Institute (see 8.6 below) and Thailand data (Table 8.2). These sizes would be: (1) 45 mm flat width, (2) 52 mm flat width, and (3) 57 mm flat width. It seems evident, based on penile size data collected in Thailand, that the current “Asian” size of 49 mm flat width is too large for approximately 15 percent of the male population. It also
seems possible, assuming the Kinsey data for African American males are relevant, that the 52 mm nominal flat width condom is too small for at least 25 percent of the African population, and that flat widths of 55-56 mm would be more suitable for that region (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, 1991).

AIDS

Differences in sexual activity translate into consequences. Teenage fertility rates around the world show Negroids > Caucasoids > Mongoloids (Hofmann, 1984). So does the pattern of sexually transmitted diseases. World Health Organization Technical Reports and other studies examining the worldwide prevalence of syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, and chlamydia typically find low levels in China and Japan and high levels in Africa, with European countries
intermediate. Africa is known to be unusual compared to other areas of the world in having sexually transmitted diseases as the major cause of infertility (Cates, Farley, & Rowe, 1985). The worldwide racial pattern in these diseases is replicated within the United States.

The 100,410 cases of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) reported to the World Health Organization as of July 1,1988 were examined by Rushton and Bogaert (1989). While the modes of transmission were universally the same—through sex and blood and from mother to fetus—it was clear that the virus had entered and spread disproportionately among the racial groups. Because of political sensitivities, many African and Caribbean countries
report only a fraction of their actual number of AIDS cases and strenuously deny that AIDS may have originated in Africa (Norman, 1985; Palca, 1991). Negroid countries, relative to others, have an enormous AIDS problem.

In some areas, 25 percent or more of the 20-40-year age group are infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In African and Caribbean countries the AIDS virus is transmitted predominantly
through heterosexual intercourse (Figure 8.1). The age and sex distributions of HIV infection rates is similar to that of other sexually transmitted diseases with higher prevalence among younger sexually active women. At the other extreme, it is a characteristic feature of AIDS in China and Japan that most sufferers are hemophiliacs. An intermediate amount of HIV infection is apparent in Europe and the Americas, where it has occurred predominantly
among homosexual men.

The pattern of whites intermediate to blacks and Orientals is also well documented within the United States (Figure 8.2). As of July 1, 1988, blacks amounted to 12 percent of the U.S. population and accounted for 26 percent of adult and 53 percent of pediatric cases of AIDS. Whites amounted to 80 percent of the population and accounted for 59 percent of adult and 23 percent of child cases, with Hispanic populations intermediate. Oriental populations
did not exist in the figures, which included those from California and Hawaii.

By April 1, 1990, the global figures had grown to 237,110 showing an 18-month doubling time and a crystallization of the racial pattern. I (Rushton 1990a) calculated the figures on a per capita basis to find that blacks in Caribbean countries had developed as large an AIDS problem as had Africans and African-Americans, a point ignored by most commentators. The three most affected countries in the world were Bermuda, the Bahamas, and French Guiana. Moreover, within the United States, blacks had increased their total share of the figures from 26 to 27 percent, whites had decreased, and Orientals
remained at less than 1 percent.

I have collated the most recent data as of January 4, 1994 in Table 8.5 (World Health Organization, 1994). The official statistics show a cumulative global total of 851,628 cases reported from 187 countries. The number of cases per 1,000 population are computed to give an indication of the relative seriousness of the epidemic between countries with different sizes of populations after excluding countries reporting fewer than 200 cases. The population
size of the country is taken from estimates standardized for mid-1991 (United Nations, 1992). On this measure Canada has a rate of .320 per 1,000 making it the 33rd most affected country in the world. Of the other leading countries, 17 are in Africa, 10 are in the Caribbean, 4 are in Europe, and the other is the United States.

The most recent figures from the United States confirm that blacks are overrepresented in every exposure category (data as of September 30, 1993; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1993). If the population of the United States is divided up racially, the 30 million African-Americans with a cumulative total of 106,585 adult/adolescent cases have a rate of 3.553 per 1,000, equivalent to the black populations of Africa and the Caribbean (Table 8.5). The white and Oriental populations of the United States have rates of
.861 and .000 per 1,000, comparable to the white and Oriental populations of Europe and Asia.

One suggestion often made is that blacks in the United States have such a high prevalence of AIDS because of intravenous drug use. Among black men, 36 to 43 percent acquired the disease through drug use, but between 50 and 57 percent acquired it through sexual transmission, 8 percent heterosexually (compared to 1 percent of whites). Of all 24,358 adult cases transmitted heterosexually
(7 percent of total), 14,143 or 58 percent involve blacks, with another 20 percent being Hispanic. Hispanics, of course, are a linguistic group; they are also overrepresented in the “men who have sex with men” exposure category (19 % versus a population expectation of 12 %). Overall, in the last six years, blacks in the United States increased their total share of the AIDS figures
from 26 to 31 percent, Hispanics increased from 14 to 17 percent, Asians and American Indians combined stayed at less than 1 percent, and whites decreased from 59 to 51 percent.

The racially distinct mode of AIDS transmission is particularly marked for women and children, with blacks accounting for 53 and 55 percent of all cases and whites 25 and 20 percent respectively. Whereas among white Americans 94 percent of cases are in men, with a sex ratio of 16:1, among black Americans it is 79 percent with a ratio of 4:1. Black Americans approximate the pattern in Africa and the Caribbean and white Americans the pattern in Europe (Figure 8.1).

White Distress

Author David Berreby writes: In the past two years, non-whites have succeeded as never before in changing the terms of debates that once excluded or deprecated their points of view. This has changed both formal rules of conduct (for police, for students) but also unwritten norms and expectations. Millions of Americans have recently come to accept the once fringe idea that police frequently engage in unfair conduct based on race. And many now support the removal of memorials to Confederate heroes, and their flag, from public places.

Meanwhile, campuses host vigorous debates about traditions that went largely unquestioned two or three years ago. (It is now reasonable to ask, if Princeton wouldn’t name a library after Torquemada, why should it honor the fiercely racist Woodrow Wilson?) The silliness of some of these new disputes (like Oberlin students complaining that the college dining hall’s Chinese food is offensive to Chinese people) shouldn’t obscure the significance of the trend. We are seeing inevitable ethnic renegotiation taking place before our eyes, as what was once “harmless fun” (like naming your football team the “Redskins”) is redefined as a thing no decent American should condone.

It’s nice to imagine this process of political and cultural reconfiguring as a gentle and only slightly awkward conversation. But the evidence suggests that the transition will be painful and its outcome uncertain.

Ethnic identity (like religious identity, with which it is often entangled) is easy to modify over time (again, see How the Irish Became White) but difficult to abandon. This is especially true when people believe their numbers and influence are declining. In that situation, they become both more aware and concerned about ethnicity and more hostile to “outsiders.” (In a paper published last year, for example, the social psychologists Maureen A. Craig and Jennifer A. Richeson found that white citizens who’d read about U.S. demographics in 2042 were more likely to agree with statements like “it would bother me if my child married someone from a different ethnic background,” compared to whites who had read about 2010’s white-majority demographics.)

This sentiment can feed a narrative of lost advantage even when no advantage has been lost. Though whites remain privileged members of American society, they can experience others’ gains toward equality as a loss for “our side.”

Hence the state of American politics in 2016 is also a part of this story-that-will-stay-a-story. The distress of white people over the loss of their predominance—a sense that “the way things were before was better”—has rewarded frankly xenophobic rhetoric, and the candidates who use it. As the journalist Evan Osnos has reported, outright white supremacists (who usually ignore two-party political races) are delighted.

We should not imagine though that this distress among some whites is written merely in rhetoric. In a recent analysis of statistics on sickness and death rates, the economists Anne Case and Angus Deaton found that middle-aged white people in the United States have been dying by suicide, drug abuse and alcohol-related causes at extraordinary rates. The historian and journalist Josh Marshall has pointed out that this effect is strongest among the people who, lacking other advantages, had the most stake in white identity: less-educated, less skilled, less affluent workers. (Other scholars have disputed details of Case and Deaton’s analysis, but not its overall point.)

If the Case-Deaton statistics reflected only economic distress, then middle-aged working-class people of other ethnic groups should also be missing out on the general health improvements of the last few decades. This is not the case. Unskilled middle-aged African-Americans, for example, have lower life expectancy than equivalent whites. Yet their health measures continually improved over the time period during which those of whites stalled.

For this reason, I think Marshall is right, and that the Case-Deaton findings signal a particularly racial distress. The mortality rates correlate with loss of privilege, unspoken predominance, a once undoubted sense that “the world is ours.”

What all this suggests is that this ongoing news, over the next ten or twenty years, could turn into a grim story of inter-ethnic conflict. There is a reason those white supremacists, eager for a conflict fought on race lines, are taking a new interest in conventional politics.

The Stereotype Threat

* Larry Bird has described his bout with stereotype threat when he arrived at pro basketball camp as a slow white guy from a small town that played at a small college. But after two or three practices he said he realized he could play and be very good at that level.

Likewise, they give so many tests at school, it would be hard to not discover like by accident even that you can actually compete with other students you thought were maybe more advanced than you if in fact you do have the ability.

* Most of what comes out of the social sciences today is just politically influenced garbage – the “scientists” arrive at their conclusions first and then go looking for data to confirm their political beliefs. If you can’t find any and you are not willing to commit outright fraud, then you can at least statistically manipulate the data in some way that helps your cause. As a thought experiment, take any study like this and reverse the conclusions and I’ll bet you that study would never see the light of day. Actual science requires you to go fearlessly wherever you data leads you, but these people are not at all interested in doing actual science.

Everybody Practices Eugenics When They Seek A Good Mate

A friend says:

It’s pretty clear that the desirable sperm bank donor, is white, athletic and smart.
When Jody Foster sought donor sperm she didn’t seek anyone racially distinct or even ethnically distinguishable from herself.
Remember how badly that woman in the Midwest was ridiculed because although she was white her baby had a black sperm donor. She was criticized in the media because she pointed out that in her community that it was difficult to deal with her black hair. Yet I wonder if any person who criticized her either sought out a sperm donor, or knew anyone who sought out a sperm donor and deliberately chose to be inseminated by the sperm of a black man.
Forget adoption and all the babies and children of other races adopted by whites. Sometimes that is altruistic, other times it’s a matter of supply and demand. But focus on when push comes to shove and the couple is seeking a donor egg, or a couple (or on occasion a single mother) is seeking a sperm donor, and they are putting their dollars on the line, what sort of genetic lineage they seek out. That is the real eugenics and shows the absolute hypocrisy of so many persons.

Largest UK sperm bank turns away dyslexic donors

Britain’s largest sperm bank has been turning away donors with dyslexia in what it describes as attempts to “minimise the risk of transmitting common genetic diseases or malformations to any children born”.

In a practice branded “eugenics” by campaigners and a would-be donor, the London Sperm Bank has banned men with dyslexia or other common conditions it described as “neurological diseases” from donating.

A leaflet to donors lists a series of conditions the clinic screens for, including: attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], autism, Asperger syndrome, dyslexia and the motor disorder dyspraxia.

The fertility regulator has launched a review of the London Sperm Bank after being alerted to its practices by the Guardian…

Steve O’Brien, chair of the Dyslexia Foundation and a board member of the International Dyslexia Association, said: “This is eugenics. It’s trying to say that dyslexics shouldn’t be in society. But we’re moving into a visually dominated world of Instagram and YouTube where given the right tools it is no longer an issue, because people with dyslexia are right-brained often with hyper-visual skills.

Caplan makes the distinction between hard and soft eugenics, the former being more closely associated with Nazi Germany and the killing of so-called undesirables. Soft eugenics, or what’s often referred to as positive eugenics, is the attempt to make better babies. So, in the sense that sperm banks are promoting and encouraging the idea of having babies built to order, then yes, it can be referred to as a form of positive eugenics.

“In this case, customers are selecting for traits they want, and avoiding traits they don’t want,” Caplan explained to Gizmodo.

Bioethicist Nigel Cameron, the president of the Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies, says the practice is absolutely eugenics— and that sperm banks are starting to take it too far. “There is something inherently eugenic about assisted reproduction unless donations are accepted, by clinics and recipients, sight unseen,” he told Gizmodo. “When we take this to the extent they have, banning the color blind, we are wading in deep.”

The Human Spirit: Israeli Jewish women and demography

Israel is once again a light unto Western nations who want to thrive rather than be overrun by migrants.

Barbara Sofer writes:

According to Ettinger, from 1995 to 2013, the annual number of Israeli Jewish births surged by 65 percent – from 80,400 to 132,000. In 2013, the Jewish fertility rate was 3.04 births per woman – and trending upwards. It’s 3.04 births when both spouses are Israeli-born, no matter where their parents were born.

“Trending upwards” is the operational term here. There are many factors, including population age, which are important in predicting future population growth or shrinkage. But, taking all these factors into consideration, the Jewish population is growing fast, and will grow even faster.

That’s counterintuitive, if you’ve read all the literature about “sub-replacement levels” of society. Family size has been traditionally linked to the number of children it takes to run a farm or support an elderly parent. But as women become more educated, move to cities and have other economic resources, they have fewer babies. At least that’s the theory.

A CBS report earlier this year, citing UN estimates, shows there’s been a drop in family size among Muslims throughout the region. The most fertile Arab nation, Jordan, has a projected 2035 fertility rate of 2.41 children. Israeli Muslims are projected to decline from 3.37 to 2.71. This is consistent with the greater education and urbanization.

But it doesn’t hold for Israeli Jews.

Says Ettinger, “Israel’s Jewish fertility rate is currently higher than any Arab country, other than Yemen, Iraq and Jordan, which are rapidly declining. The Jewish population is also growing relatively younger, which bodes well for Israel’s economy and national security.”

The swell in Jewish population, in contrast to the downward trend among the region’s Muslims, has major implications for the geopolitics of our area, of course. But this is not the subject of this discourse.

I’m wondering why we have this surprising increase in population. It’s not from immigration.

Innately Jewish? Unhappily, this fertility pattern isn’t true for our American sisters. According to the most widely quoted survey, the National Jewish Population Survey 2001-2002, the average number of children born to Jewish women was less than 1.9. The so-called “effective Jewish birthrate” is below 1.9 children per Jewish woman.

NYT Columnist Roger Cohen Wants America To Serve As A Dumping Ground For The Middle East

So, basically, after helping to ruin South Africa, Roger Cohen’s family escaped it and now Roger is contributing his best to ruin the USA. Where does he think his grandchildren will go?

* Their shamelessness and total lack of reciprocal morality makes me sick.

* Dumping a few million unassimilable, violence prone Muslims into formerly peaceful western societies, thereby TRIPLING the incidence of violent rape (as happened in Scandinavia) and creating networks of domestic Jihadi terrorists where none existed before (as happened pretty much everywhere), has a way of triggering a “backlash” among the common folk. I can understand how their primitive response to the disintegration of their societies, the ongoing destruction of their culture, and their mounting economic insecurity would offend uber rational globalists such as the FT. But the irrational little dears are afraid of losing their homes, jobs, and all the other familiar things that make life worth living for people of limited imagination and a parochial perspective. Perhaps if the FT explained the many benefits of “globalisation” to them one more time they would see the light; I mean, discount HD TVs and cheap apparel give life its true meaning. Why can’t they can see that?

That’s true but that doesn’t mean we should want them to come to the West (not that you are saying such, it’s just that I’ve encountered such sentiments on forums before).

Earlier this week Nassim Taleb said on his Twitter feed something about how Americans should forget about Mexicans and concentrate on Saudis instead. Now I’d be more than happy to see the Saudis (and other Sunni Gulf states) get their comeuppance, but how typical that a Christian Middle Easterner would rather Americans focus on his enemies in the old country rather than the Mexicans who are no threat to Professor Taleb’s people or his position in the US.

As for Cohen, he advocated Western intervention in Syria to remove Assad back in 2013. And IIRC he was rather bitter towards the Germans for not going along with it. (Or was that another Cohen? There are so many of them). Now the Germans are his heroes because of their willingness to flood Europe with Syrians and the Americans (and other Westerners) who were great when wanting to bomb Syria are a disappointment! The mendacity of the Cohens of the world knows no limits.

* It must be a great comfort to Cohen’s editor and readers that Hafiz Nassar is an Arab rug merchant, just as Cohen’s daughter is a Jewish psychiatrist, Cohen himself is a peripatetic Jew from an wandering family,* and a nameless Navajo woman shows up on cue to pawn** a turquoise ring for ten dollars. Those are all stock characters, archetypes which New Yorkers recognize faster than Malcolm Gladwell can blink. And those aren’t all! Cohen also gives us four Syrian Christians in a lonely monastery, Dust Bowl migrants on Route 66 to California, and Israeli roadblocks that “cement the violent status quo.” Cliches, every one. (Cohen’s readers understand that “Israeli roadblocks” are people as much as objects– probably Likudniks.)

Why this remarkable barrage of stereotypes? Is it just to flatter New Yorkers’ beliefs that nothing ever changes outside the five boroughs? Nope. The cliches are part of the hypnotist’s patter, lulling the reader into a uncritical state of mind, preparing him to accept suggestions. Nodding along as Cohen reviews familiar stereotypes, the reader is invited to just keep nodding as Cohen tells us swarms of migrants from violent societies half a world away are the same as the Okies of our nostalgic memories, and more importantly, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are really one and they are Nazis!

“The Vladimir Trump policy school,” Cohen writes, “teaches that big lies produce big fears that produce big yearnings for big strongmen.” New York Times readers know who invented “big lies,” Adolf Hitler! Flyover folks might think they’re afraid of being shot down by jihadists, but really, that’s just a big lie, put about to create a big yearning for Vladimir Trump’s election. And just look at Vladimir Trump, he’s really big!

If the New York Times caught someone outside their pages writing about Arab rug merchants and rootless Jewish psychiatrists and Navajo women pawning their jewelry they would demand an FBI investigation. The $PLC would feature the bigots in a fundraising letter. Loretta Lynch would hold a press conference to highlight the penalties for hate speech.

But Cohen, exploiting the prejudices of the comfortable, is just doing his job. As Camus’ Bernard Rieux tells us, that is the definition of decency.

* Israel would make a much better bazaar. We should withdraw all aid, enact sanctions, and bring all the pressure to bear we possibly can, until Israel becomes the Bazaar It Is Destined To Be. After all, location, location, location. Israel’s much better sited.

The Anglo Connection: Why Do So Many Jewish Terrorists Come From the English-speaking World?

Haaretz: At the Petach Tikva Magistrate Court, where some of the key suspects in the latest wave of Jewish terror activity were having their remands extended this week, concerned family members huddled in the hallways while hearings were held behind closed doors.
A passerby paying close attention could not help but take note of the preponderance of English being spoken. And when not English, then American-accented Hebrew.
Is it pure coincidence that a disproportionate number of those taken into custody in the latest crackdown on Jewish extremism in Israel, as well as those cheering them on, are children of immigrants from English-speaking countries or immigrants who hold dual citizenship?
Take the fact that at least one of the key suspects in the arson attack in the West Bank village of Duma that killed three members of the Dawabsheh family in July has an American parent and holds dual citizenship.
This 17-year-old, whose name has been barred from publication, grew up in the West Bank settlement of Tsofim. Another minor suspected of direct involvement in that attack is also reported to hold U.S. citizenship.
Take, for example, the fact that three other Jewish-Israeli terror suspects being held in administrative detention since the summer, even though they are not directly connected to the Duma attack, also hold dual citizenship. The most famous in the group is Meir Ettinger, the grandson of American-born Rabbi Meir Kahane, whose mother immigrated to Israel from the United States and who grew up in the settlement of Tapuach, a bastion of right-wing extremism. (The racist Kach movement, founded by Kahane, is outlawed in Israel). The other two are Mordechai Meyer, the child of American immigrants from Ma’aleh Adumim, a large, relatively moderate settlement outside of Jerusalem; and Evyatar Slonim, whose parents are Australian.

Finally, this week, another English-speaker – this one caught dancing with a weapon in a controversial wedding clip celebrating the Duma attack – was detained by security forces.
He is Daniel Pinner, a 50-year-old settler from the settlement of Tapuah, who immigrated to Israel from Britain many years ago.
And he was not the only English-speaker celebrating at that infamous wedding, where participants were caught on camera dancing with knives and guns, as one slashed a photo of the dead Dawabsheh baby. The bride, Roni Goldberg, is the daughter of American-born Lenny Goldberg, a former Kahane aide and author of “The Wit and Wisdom of Rabbi Meir Kahane.”
Here’s what Goldberg had to say this week in a column he published on the settler-run Arutz Sheva news service: “Not only don’t I care about Duma, neither do the left or the Shin Bet.
“It’s just a good excuse for them to harass and torture the hilltop youth they so despise for the Judaism that they represent,” he wrote, referring to the rogue group of youths who engage in illegal settlement activities.
When another daughter of his, barely a teenager then, sat in jail 10 years ago for blocking roads to protest the Gaza disengagement, he could hardly contain his pride. Back then he wrote on that same website: “Obviously, I am not a distraught parent over this. I’m pleased that she is occupied with this, and not with the trivial issues that concern most teenagers. I’ve educated them all their lives about the need for self-sacrifice for the Jewish People and the Land of Israel — all, of course, in the comfort of our living room, or over a cholent on Shabbat. To behave as a worried Jewish mother/father now would be the most hypocritical thing of all. It would make a lie of all that I had preached. Besides, I feel guilty that I’m not doing it, so my kids might as well.”
Laura Wharton, an American-born political scientist who represents the left-wing Meretz party on the Jerusalem city council, is not surprised by the large number of children of English-speaking families among the terror suspects, noting that immigrants from these countries tend to be highly ideologically motivated, and are more likely to have radical extremists among their ranks. “I think in general people who immigrate to Israel from English-speaking countries, in fact from all wealthy countries, need a stronger incentive to make the move,” she says. “They also want to make their mark when they come here, for better or for worse.”
Sara Yael Hirschhorn, who has spent many years studying American immigrants living in the West Bank, believes the radicalism could reflect a failure to integrate smoothly into Israeli society. “I think it has to do with the fact that these people are not assimilated in the way that their native Israeli or perhaps other immigrant peers have managed to be,” she observes.

Fight breaks out at Newark anti-violence rally

NEWARK — A skirmish broke out between rival activists on the steps of City Hall Wednesday during what had been intended as a demonstration against violence in Newark.

Police were called to the scene after a small crowd began arguing over escalating violence and the city’s attempts to curb it.

The noon press conference was called by a group of activists led by Salaam Ismial, co-chair of the New Jersey Study Commission on Violence, and Abdul Muhammad, a longtime Newark anti-violence activist. In a release announcing the event, the two said they planned to ask Mayor Ras Baraka to “unleash his quality of life plan in addressing ongoing violence facing Newark residents.”

As the group spoke to reporters, however, a group of Baraka supporters including activist Donna Jackson and Tyrone “Street Counselor” Barnes began heckling and shouting from the base of the steps.

It soon evolved into an intense face-off between Jackson and Muhammad, which then erupted into a skirmish between members of the two camps. At one point, Barnes put his hands around Muhammad’s neck and pushed him to the ground.
