We hear the media talking about police violence, but they rarely say the phrase “black violence.”
A Google News search today found 81,500 results for “police violence” and just 8,390 results for “black violence” and yet blacks in America kill about 500 times as many people than do police.
Murder would fall by 91 percent in an all-white New York City.
These figures are from New York City’s annual crime report. The report does not calculate crime rates for a hypothetical all-white New York City–the police chief would be fired if he did that–but it includes demographics for the city as follows: Whites: 32.8 percent, Blacks: 22.6 percent, Hispanics: 28.9 percent. To calculate the murder rate if the city were all white, you divide the percentage of arrests that are white by the white percentage of the population: 2.9 percent ÷ 32.8 percent = 8.84 percent. That results in a reduction in the crime rate of: 100 percent – 8.84 percent = 91.16 percent. [See below if you didn’t follow that.]
You can also calculate how much more likely a black or Hispanic is to be arrested for a violent crime than a white. For murder, a black is 31 times more likely and a Hispanic is 9 times more likely. A black is an astonishing 77 times more likely than a white to be arrested for a lethal or non-lethal shooting, and a Hispanic 18 times more likely. Guns are a problem alright–but the problem is overwhelmingly because of blacks and Hispanics, not whites.
Despite liberal dogma, these figures represent real racial differences in crime rates, not police bias. For them to represent bias, the police would deliberately have to arrest innocent blacks and Hispanics and let whites go. It would be crazy to arrest innocent people. New York City juries are racially very mixed and will not convict without good evidence. And does anyone really think the police don’t bother to look for a shooter if witnesses say he was white? Besides, whites are only 51.5 percent of the NYPD, which is 15.6 percent black, 26.7 percent Hispanic, and 6.2 percent Asian.
The figures for New York are not an aberration. Similar data used to be available from Chicago until Rahm Emanuel was elected mayor. According to the most recent data, which are from 2010, a Chicago black was 32 times more likely than a Chicago white to be arrested for murder; a Hispanic was nine times more likely. A black was 38 times more likely than white to be arrested for robbery, and a Hispanic was six times more likely. If Chicago were all white, the murder and robbery rates would plummet by 93 percent, rape by 87 percent, and assault by 85 percent. The figures for Chicago are probably worse now. You can see why the mayor wants to hide them.
Chicago used to report arrests by sex, and men are more violent than women: 13 times more likely than women to be arrested for murder and 19 times more likely to be arrested for robbery. That doesn’t surprise anyone. People are more wary around strange men than they are around strange women–and so are the police. No one shrieks about “sex profiling” when Chicago police arrest a lot more men than women.
Please note that the sex multiples for Chicago–13 times for murder and 19 times for robbery–are about half the black/white multiples of 32 and 38. Men are more dangerous than women, but blacks are a lot more dangerous compared to whites.
Donald Trump’s next tweet should be: “Chicago men 13 to 19 times more dangerous than women. Chicago blacks 32 to 38 times more dangerous than whites.” That’s 113 characters.

[How to calculate the crime rate for an all-white New York City. Imagine a city that is 50 percent white and 50 percent non-white, where there are 100 murders every year, and whites commit 10 of them (10 percent). If all the non-whites were replaced by whites who were precisely as likely to commit murder as the whites who already live in the city, the number of murders committed by whites would double to 20. That is 20 percent of the previous annual rate of 100 murders. Since the 90 murders committed by non-whites would not happen, the new murder rate of 20 per year would reflect an 80 percent drop.]
An Afghan and I once broke into a small house in Peckham. I had met him while researching a report on immigration for the Daily Mail.
We were on a rescue mission. Inside the two-up, two-down property in South East London, every room was packed with beds, mattresses and migrants.
On the landing, grey and scarcely breathing, lay the man we had come to rescue from this awful place.
The other migrants who were there started to shout at us. Apparently, the sick man owed them and their trafficking gang money. We had to hustle him out fast.
I emerged shaken. I had glimpsed a London I did not know existed — one of Third World poverty, exploitation and criminality.
It is writer Ben Judah’s great achievement to reveal that hidden city in his new book, This Is London: Life And Death In The World City.
A young war correspondent, Judah examines his home city as the foreign metropolis it has now become
Since 2001, immigration has transformed the capital. More than half of Londoners are now not ethnically British.
As he says: ‘I was born in London, but I no longer recognise this city. I don’t know if I love the new London, or if it frightens me: a city where at least 55 per cent of people are not white British, nearly 40 per cent were born abroad and hundreds of thousands are living illegally, in the shadows.’
Who are these new Londoners? In order to find out, Judah immerses himself in the migrant world.
He spends a night with the Roma beggars who camp in the tunnels beneath Hyde Park. He stays in a doss-house in Barking, East London. He cajoles an astonishing array of migrants from across London to describe their lives.
Whether a mini cab driver who also washes dead bodies, a Romanian prostitute in a blonde wig, or a wealthy young African with bodyguards hired from his own tribe, they open up to Judah.
The quantity and authenticity of his interviews build up an irrefutable argument. Here, as opposed to what the Left is always telling us, are the real effects of immigration.
Immigration, Judah makes clear, has touched every aspect of life in London and utterly transformed it.
The English upper classes no longer inhabit the splendid townhouses in Mayfair. Suburbs such as Edmonton in the north of the city are no longer home to the aspirational, largely unionised, English working-class.
As for white, East End gangsters such as the Kray Twins, you will only find those in movies.
The same goes for the prostitutes who used to inhabit Soho. Even tramps, for goodness sake, are rarely English any more. Such is the level of liberal propaganda that we have largely remained blind to this startling transformation of our city.
Judah systematically maps these changes — the result of Labour relaxing immigration into the UK.
Left-wingers and the business establishment pat themselves on the back for creating an open city that welcomes the world. In fact, we have lost control of our borders and have no say who comes here.
This week, it emerged that Brussels is attempting to blackmail Britain by saying that if we don’t take as many as 90,000 migrants a year, we will not be able to send failed asylum seekers back to safe countries on the Continent.
Then came the story that a tribunal had ruled that a group of migrants in the Jungle camp in Calais had a ‘human right’ to join family members in Britain. It is a precedent that could have far-reaching implications.
Aside from legal rulings, the truth is that much of our immigration policy is now dictated by criminal trafficking gangs who make a fortune smuggling people into Britain — not our elected leaders and certainly not voters and taxpayers.
It is criminal gangs who decide who comes into the UK and in what numbers. They largely decide what happens to the migrants once they arrive.
In handing our immigration system over to them, we have allowed conditions of unimaginable squalor, misery and criminality reminiscent of Victorian times to take hold.
So how has it happened? Well, get rid of any notion that we are doing the world’s poorest many favours.
Judah quickly discovers that multiculturalism for many migrants is a euphemism for slave labour.
It starts when would-be immigrants listen to the sales pitch of the agents for the people-traffickers. They promise that London is ‘a second paradise’ where ‘every man is rich’.
On offer is free NHS treatment, free housing, free schooling and countless welfare benefits. It is a place of opportunity, security and, above all, available women.
This was a definite pull for one young Afghan working in a butcher’s in Neasden, North West London.
As he put it, in his village, if you slept with more than one person in your life, ‘they shot you in the back’. In Britain, however, sexual opportunities were immense.
The agents explain how to take full advantage of the UK.‘London is a country of rights,’ they say. How very true! If you tell the correct story, they are informed, ‘you will never be sent home’.
And yet, when migrants manage to reach the UK, they all have to pay back the people-traffickers who got them here.
Indeed, it is this debt, sometimes with interest rates of 100 per cent, that lies behind the often appalling working conditions they are forced to accept.
This is the simple fact that the immigration lobby ignore — with appalling consequences for the migrants concerned.
Typical of the views of those Judah met was someone who said: ‘I thought the money would be growing on trees. Six months later, I was crying myself to sleep. I was homeless.’
A Roma violin player in a tunnel beneath Park Lane explains what this means.
‘We’re all here to beg, to work off our debts. We give the enforcers all the money. They told us to come here. But we are never going to make back the loans they gave us to come here. We’re trapped.’
He explains that the people-traffickers are a constant threat to the children migrants have left behind in places such as the Romanian city of Slobozia. Defiance could bring brutal retribution on those they love.
Judah quickly learns that the people who make it here are ‘virtual slaves’. And it is the same wherever he goes. In a hotel laundry room, Africans curse the tricksters who brought them here on counterfeited visas and passports.
A Ghanaian came on a student visa with plans to set up an international business. All he wanted, he said, was to wear a suit and work in an office.
Yet the traffickers never told him what would happen when he tried to work as an illegal migrant.
He used up his savings of five years in a matter of months. Instead of running his own business, he stacks shelves in a warehouse.
Frustrated, angry and exhausted, he knows he has ruined his life. He can never escape, never get home to his children, because his low wages mean he cannot imagine ever paying off his debt.
There is a whole illegal city in London of several hundred thousand people, and nearly half of them are thought to have arrived after 2001.
This is a city hidden from official statistics, but not hidden from employers who take on the workers, no questions asked, through agencies.
Legal workers also have problems because the sheer number of new arrivals push down wages.
A Polish builder explains that, on his work site, the English builders tell him angrily they used to be paid £15 an hour. Now it is £7 an hour. ‘They hate me,’ he says simply.
But then he gripes about the newly-arrived Romanians who, he says, are pushing wages even lower.
Tragically, politicians appear blissfully oblivious to the new realities. They solemnly debate the merits of a ‘living wage’ over the minimum wage.
What planet are they living on?
Certainly, it’s one as far removed as possible from the reality of daily life outside Wickes, the builder’s merchant in Barking, East London.
Here, Judah joined 80 or so Romanians, ‘blank eyes wide with hunger’, touting for work.
‘They pace up and down in their work boots for the next 11 hours, muttering tensely, ‘waiting for a white van’.
This is a reference to the fact, they tell Judah, that the proverbial White Van Englishman is the best type of employer. Whereas Pakistanis, Turks and Poles are the worst.
One explains: ‘They make us fight for work. And they know we have no choice. That we are hungry.’
To such men, the minimum wage is a luxury that they can only dream about. They often work for much less — or, as one put it, for nothing more than ‘one chicken and chips’.
But this story is not just about brutal exploitation. It is also about crime.
Along with immigrants, we have imported the criminal gangs who blight their countries. When it is so easy for migrants to get here, it is just as simple for the world’s nastiest criminals to relocate to the UK, too.
Thus many Somalian gangs terrorise estates in South London and Turkish gangs control North London.
Kurds and Albanians launder their money through the car washes in Tottenham and Kilburn. Vietnamese gangs grow and distribute two-thirds of the strong cannabis on the capital’s streets.
Judah encountered a Grenadian, now a successful cocaine dealer, who recalled moving to the White City estate in West London with his mother when he was 12.
‘We pitched up for a better life, but found ourselves right in the middle of a war zone,’ he recalled.
He said the estate ‘was way more corrupt . . . way more dangerous, more full of disillusion than anywhere in Grenada. Within six months of being here, I had lost 75 per cent of my morals.’
After a few years here, and now a heavy cocaine-user, he woke up to his mother screaming. She’d found his gun in the fridge and bullets on the sofa.
She was crying: ‘Please, please, the police will kill you, the gangsters will kill you! My baby, why, why did I ever bring you to this country?’
The sex industry is another area where our flawed immigration policy has had a malign effect. Now, 96 per cent of prostitutes are migrants. In the main, Albanians have taken over.
Typically, they lure girls from Moldova with promises of modelling jobs, but then rape and traffic them.
I saw the results of this myself when a brothel opened in a house on a quiet, residential street near my son’s primary school in Hampstead.
The mother of one of my son’s friends lived opposite. She was intimidated by the sinister men in leather jackets who sat in the nearby coffee shop all day.
She reported to the police that the girls on the top floor looked underage and never went out. In due course, her car was smashed up.
She suspected this was done as a warning to keep her nose out of it. The police did nothing and she never raised the matter again.
Finally, migration has even changed the nationality of London’s vagrants.
There are now around 5,000 — mostly Polish and Romanians — living rough on London’s streets. In North London, they unload trucks for Turkish shopkeepers in exchange for nothing more than their drink of choice, White Ace cider.
Others have been found roasting rats for food in the back alleys of Tottenham and Haringey.
In this new London, increasingly there is one nationality significant for its absence — white, British-born. Nearly all the migrants comment on this phenomenon.
Ben Judah meets a Pole who works as a registrar — recording births and deaths — in Catford Bridge, who says she works in a position that is perfect to spot the ethnic changes.
She describes the new London where 57 per cent of births are to migrant mothers.
But when she enters the names of the recent dead, they are nearly all of them old white British. Another migrant comments: ‘The English are dying. They are declining fast.’
He recalls in the street markets, there used to be only English voices shouting out, ‘advertising their wares in the Cockney accent. But they’ve gone now’.
A Met policeman, who was born in Nigeria, says: ‘The English are vanishing. London is no longer an English city at all . . . London is a patchwork of ghettos.’
Between 1971 and 2011, the white British share of London’s population slumped from 86 per cent to 45 per cent, overwhelmingly the old Cockney working-class. Cockney, in fact, is predicted to die out in 15 years.
I once visited a school in the East End displaying photos of a class from the Thirties and today. In the first photo, the children were all white. In the second, none of them were.
In some countries, this might be called racial cleansing. In London, it is simply the result of the failed policy of multiculturalism.
On the Old Kent Road, Judah found only one English shopkeeper left — a plumbers’ merchant. He charts the gradual disappearance of the English by the fate of their pubs.
Along this road, there used to be 12: one has been turned into a Nigerian mosque, another into the Afrikiko nightclub, the rest have simply been demolished.
Across London, it is the same story. African churches move into abandoned bingo halls, cinemas and pubs vacated by the old white working-class.
In Brent and Harlesden, the white population has fallen by 30 per cent since 2001.
Suburbs such as Edmonton, once ‘terraces of white respectability’, where the Tory politician Norman Tebbit grew up for goodness’ sake, have now turned into tenements for migrants.
This huge demographic shift is as true for wealthy areas as for deprived.
Half of Kensington & Chelsea’s inhabitants were born overseas — a third arriving since 2001. Forty per cent do not have a British passport.
Global immigration has transformed these areas as radically as it has other parts of London.
The English upper and upper-middle classes find themselves elbowed out of Mayfair, Knightsbridge and Notting Hill Gate — as surely as the white working class has been out of London’s East End.
So how can the relatively honest, tax-paying English compete to buy property with a global elite who, as one wealthy young Nigerian explains, are not paying taxes, and are making their money in countries rife with corruption?
Instead, the next generation of these English retreat to places such as Peckham — as Judah put it, ‘mourning their postcodes’, and ‘bitter like refugees’.
Judah has done an extraordinary job in painstakingly building up a vivid and desperate portrait of London today.
His observations turn an unsparing spotlight on how the British people have been so befuddled by Left-wing dogma and political correctness that too few people have noticed the utter transformation of our capital city.
Too many have failed to question why we lost control of our borders and, having done so, allowed immigrant gangs to exploit migrants.
Also, we have failed to wonder if we are comfortable with this new London, with its extremes of foreign poverty and wealth.
Uncontrolled immigration has changed London for ever. And, most shamefully, not one of our leaders has lifted a finger to stop it.

* Americans have a glimpse of the non-White majority American future that the elites wished. Endless squabbles between races about fairness, representation etc. It is exhausting to keep up with the endless complaints and grievances of black groups.

But let’s pretend it’s all about ‘whites’.

* I understand Nigeria has a large movie industry; larger than Hollywood in some ways (number of movies). Maybe Spike can go over there and be a big hit and get all the glory he so richly deserves.
* For example, we could agree to have only black winners for some period of time. Hopefully, we could pay it off sooner that way, rather than by offering just a few winners per year or offering a larger pool of nominees.
* This is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ argument in a nutshell:
#1 – Blacks, as a group, do not perform as well as whites, as a group.

I saw this story earlier today as one of Google’s featured headlines, and I had the same recurring thought that I’ve been having for the last few months: The world is becoming a lot more like Taki’s Magazine rather than the other way around. It’s actually a fairly amusing experiment: if you say nasty things about every traditionally lefty group *except* Jews and gays, how far will you get?
Apparently, at least to Iowa in the presidential race.
* In other news, Trump says he likes oatmeal – just like Hitler.
* Next year the winner for best movie will be ‘Big Momma’s house 9′, with Queen Latifah winning best actress and Ludicrous (unironic) winning best actor.
* It is possible that after taking into consideration all the sacrifices whites have made to the betterment of African-Americans, blacks will end up owing whites reparations. That ought to go over real well with Will Smith.
* Are Spike Lee and Jada Smith trying to drive up Trump’s poll numbers?
I cannot think of a more potent recruitment tool for Trump than the #OscarSoWhite movement.

* If blacks think they’re going to get anywhere by sobbing, crying, and complaining their way to Oscars, they’re naive. Even if they fill the Oscar panels with blacks who nominate nothing but black films, whites will simply migrate away to create another award that garners all the prestige, exactly the way white liberals pay lip service to blacks but physically segregate themselves in reality.

As for ‘patterns of racial discrimination’, consider how relatively invisible Asians and even Hispanics remain in Hollywood compared to Blacks. Time for a class-action suit, perhaps?
Plus, a lot of viewers find blacks visually ‘unappealing’. Shouldn’t this matter?
Ugly white people, for instance, are routinely discriminated against in Hollywood. Why should Africans get a mandatory pass?
Shouldn’t we demand proportional representation for ugly Whites then?
Plus, there are very few fat chicks or old babes on TV or in film. This persistent disparity will be very difficult to address. It may therefore require government action. Call out the National Guard!
Indeed, since people (viewers) prefer attractive people over old and ugly (and primitive) people, excessive black visibility in TV and film constitutes an assault on ‘choice’ and even free markets. Beautiful lives matter, too!
What America needs is an actual reduction in Black entertainers. Let Freedom ring!
Lastly, the vast over-representation of Jews in Hollywood must be confronted if we are going to start imposing ethnic and racial quotas anywhere in the entertainment industry. Ha! This could get very interesting.
* People with blood type AB negative make up 1% of the population, but no Oscar has ever been won by an AB-negative actor or actress of the same noble blood type that Shakespeare gave Hamlet. This underrepresentation is a scandal, or should be.
* If you think sobbing, crying, and complaining US black grievance can’t completely flip the US justice system, and university system, and the US presidency, you are naive. The crappy movie awards is small potatoes on that trophy list.
* Funnily enough, the university protests, BLM and now this are just making Americans more conservative and less empathetic to blacks. The social liberals are living in a small bubble in medialand thinking the public actually sides with the blacks on this. In reality, if we were to poll the public (excluding blacks), support for this issue would be quite low. Amazing how the PC media bubble can make things seem what they’re not.

* Universal health care works okay for most people in homogenous and productive countries, but the tradeoff is that if you have an unusual illness or accident you are screwed. If Princess Di had had her wreck in a major American city she probably would have lived. That’s probably true of Princess Grace and of Natasha Richardson as well. And if you need non-lifesaving but very beneficial elective surgery you will wait a while, such as gallbladder removals (cholecystectomy) or a joint replacement. It will be unpleasant. And you will possibly die knowing that you might have a few more months or years left if only you could get the latest and best treatment as in the United States today.
And the kind of people who become doctors are going to be a different kind than is the case today. They will make less money, they will work 40-45 hour weeks, and they will shy away from really rigorous residencies. Surgical innovation will be reduced and many more people will live with ostomies, hanging limbs, and other quality of life killing modifications.
Neonatal medicine will go away to a large extent. Simpler surgeries will become the province of general practitioners and the “hand surgeon”-the guy who does any surgery he can get his hands on.
But….for 80% of the population it will work ‘just as well’. Medicine from the NHS in Britain works that way, and from what I have heard from people over there, Sweden too.
* Richardson died from a condition (an epidural hematoma) easily cured by a relatively common neurosurgery. She died many hours after her injury occurred. It was reported that the hospital she went to in Canada could not perform a simple CT scan of her head since it was not a government-designated “trauma hospital.”
Almost all hospitals in the U.S. (even rural ones) have CT scanners and are looking for reasons to use them.
The result is that in the U.S. you might get an unnecessary CT scan. In Canada, you might die from a treatable condition that a CT scan would have detected.
* What people never like admitting is that German uniforms were chosen by Hitler, who did have some artistic sensibilities.
* Steve, Rush Limbaugh’s talked the past few days about the democrat party being the “party of the fringes,” the GOP being the party of white men. Wasn’t that description originally yours?
* It seems pretty random what gets demonized for being associated with the Nazis: Francis Galton is constantly denounced as a proto-Nazi (but not Charles Darwin), while the Volkswagen and Hugo Boss brands don’t seem to suffer at all from their intimate association with Hitler. Volkswagen still makes the Beetle, which has been renovated in recent years to look more like a WWII Wehrmacht helmet. Hitler didn’t design the Beetle, but he gave Dr. Porsche the specs for it, which were drawn up very much in mind that Germany was going to conquer an American-sized Empire in Eastern Europe.
I was at Bloomingdales before Christmas looking at suits, and a large fraction of their suits were Hugo Boss.

Galton used evolution to claim some races were superior to others. That’s bad when your goal is to create a multiracial democracy where everyone is supposed to have equal outcomes. Darwin stayed away from this and opposed slavery; he also used evolution to unwind the Biblical account of human creation, so you can use his ideas to go after evangelical Christianity. That’s good if you don’t like slavery and don’t like evangelical Christianity.
(Yes, I think he was right. So was Galton, at least in the general sense of HBD (he didn’t get all the tradeoffs, but that’s a little much to expect one man to discover). The point is the political implications of each piece of information.)
Now to why VW and Hugo Boss got away with it. My best guess would be that they wanted to rebuild Germany after the war so they wouldn’t stew and go after the UK/US/allies like happened last time. So they allowed those companies to persist.
As for fashion and fascism…Hugo himself got barred from business but his son was able to take over. My guess is they won over enough New York tastemakers in the early years to be popular, but I’m not an expert on fashion. It’s worth pointing out they just make clothes…it’s not as if they were fabricating poison gas or something. Fashion people are also notoriously superficial…you’d expect people who spend all their time on minutiae of how people look to be mostly interested in appearances, wouldn’t you?
* I’ve visited a number of World War II museums and read quite a few books containing photographs. I’ve always thought that the German Army and the Waffen SS (the National Socialist German Workers Party had its own brown uniform) had the snazziest field grey uniforms. They fought in a bad cause, of course, but they were well-dressed doing so.
* I read somewhere (must be Hitler and the Power of Aesthetics) that they found a sketch by Hitler of the car which probably pre-dates all plans by Porsche.
It is definitely true of basically all plans of Speer, which were based on Hitler’s sketches.
While Hitler is derided for being lazy (which in a sense he was), he spent huge energies on things he was interested in, which didn’t much include the day-to-day business of governing a country, but did include designing things like the Party Days in Nuremberg, uniforms, buildings and cities, and possibly even the Beetle.
He basically created a larger than life real life version of a Wagner opera with himself as the protagonist, where the protagonist (like Wotan) broke eternal law out of hybris but also in service of utopian goals (similarly to how Wotan wanted to create a new world based on love) and this eventually led to his downfall and the destruction of his empire with the death of a huge number of people.
This kind of story does fascinate people.

* Lately, current events have seemed like an orchestrated recruitment tool for Trump. Uncanny how that works when the concerns you articulate reflect reality.

* Retweeting a WNist supporter, one who styles himself “WhiteGenocideTM,” would utterly destroy the career of some typical cuck. But something tells me The Trump will be just fine.
* I fully expect in 150 years white nationalists will have converted to Islam and taken over Idaho, which will be called Albalad Al’abyad (the white country). From here they will launch sorties against the Chinese-Jewish-Indian-Anglo elite based in Jersey City after Manhattan and DC sank beneath the waves.
* American low tax rates are a myth. If you include state income and sales taxes and mandatory health care insurance as a tax, it adds up to a higher rate than most of the European and Asian first world welfare states oblige their citizens to pay. Belgium and Denmark may match US style rates — though very few pay those rates — but England, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, and Italy have distinctly lower total rates at every income level.
And the USA doesn’t just have pretty high corporate rates. The USA has the highest corporate income tax rates in any first world nation. Japan used to be a tiny bit higher but PM Abe reformed the system because it was choking businesses and jobs.
* The Oscars is a bunch of employees standing in a circle whilst grabbing each other’s intimate zones and congratulating each other. It’s nothing but a corporate awards presentation and irrelevant to any thinking man’s choice in movies.
* America has the very best trauma medicine in the world, largely driven by military adventures that give the boys so many chances to see lots of interesting new wounds. One shouldn’t discount the most dangerous highways and highest car crash injury rate among the developed nations that make a serious effort to keep victims alive, also.
That’s just one small part of why US health care is so expensive. I’d say it’s one of the investments that’s worth keeping. Most of the extra costs are not so valuable.

Did the fact that Canada has a socialist, government-run healthcare system –similar to the kind that President Obama wants to ram down the throats of Americans– kill acclaimed actress Natasha Richardson?
The short answer is yes, it may very well have done so.
The province of Quebec lacks a medical helicopter system, common in the United States and other parts of Canada, to airlift stricken patients to major trauma centers. Montreal’s top head trauma doctor said Friday that may have played a role in Richardson’s death.
“It’s impossible for me to comment specifically about her case, but what I could say is … driving to Mont Tremblant from the city (Montreal) is a 2 1/2-hour trip, and the closest trauma center is in the city. Our system isn’t set up for traumas and doesn’t match what’s available in other Canadian cities, let alone in the States,” said Tarek Razek, director of trauma services for the McGill University Health Centre, which represents six of Montreal’s hospitals.
* Hitler was an almost maniacal Wagner fan, so I think Wotan might have inspired him more. The way he clings to hope after all hope is lost until the very end, and then committing suicide among the burning ruins of his castle.

Recently, the writer Vox Day launched Rabid Puppies to counteract lefty-politicking in science fiction book book awards. Basically, he organized an anti-left voting blocks for awards that resulted in the Left in charge of the science fiction awards two choices: (1) lose major categories of the awards to the “wrong” sorts of writers; or (2) burn down their own awards and attempt to illegally throw out/ban Rabid Puppies from membership. They chose option 2.
That seemed to say to me that the Left would not start eating its own anytime soon so long as there were non-Lefties in their ranks to fight.
But the Academy Awards is an example of an organization that is Near-Total Leftist. With no big boogeymen of anti-leftists in their ranks, they are now turning on one another as predicted: black versus jewish versus gay versus female versus asian versus other. It’s a classic Stalinist/Hitlerian/Mao purge: once in total control, the left starts stabbing each other in the back out of nowhere.
Grab the popcorn.
* Tyler Perry is a healthy, well-adjusted Negro. He tells the stories of his people (his audiences) in a way that they love.
Tyler Perry is not p!ssing and moaning about how the Shakespeare, NPR, and Masterpiece Theatre crowd at the Academy don’t love him, watch his movies and give him awards.
He took BT Washington’s advice and “cast down his bucket” right where he was and makes entertaining movies. He is devoid of the desperate need for white affirmation, white approval, and white blessing that the Duboisian “Talented Tenth” are burdened with.
And he has gotten rich.

* Gordy came to prominence before it was socially acceptable for blacks to be surly, resentful and angry and it was socially required for whites to publicly self-flagellate and gain status by pretending to understand black grievances better than bad whites. So Gordy had to make a sound that would have mass appeal – Early Motown isn’t particularly black in its themes and the musicianship is very good. Radio helped too because a good tune can bypass the active decision-making process in that you hear it several times in the ambiance and come to like it before buying it.
I think that insofar as it is a problem with Black representation in movies and awards (which is specious at best) the issue seems to be that when given the choice blacks rarely make movies about anything other than being black. And the theme is always one of white oppression and guilt tripping – no one ever seems to come at the black experience from any other perspective which might be the least bit fresh or interesting. Slavery/Racism/Apartheid/Urban Decay caused by Racism, overcoming all of the above but they’re all as bad or worse than ever. Lather, rinse and repeat.
People who aren’t black just have a limited appetite for that sort of thing, and the world movie market even less.
* One of the funnier bits in the piece of holiday fluff from a few years ago, The Holiday, was the Jewish Hollywood writer, talked into accepting an award by Kate Winslet’s character, needing a new suit for the ceremony. When Winslet went to meet him, he was resplendent in his new attire, and his comment was “I like this Hugo Boss. He cuts a nice suit!”
* As iSteve regulars are probably sick of hearing, my girlfriend is a nurse case manager at Boston’s main provider of care to the minority community. She has about reached her breaking point with the crap going on.
About a year ago the hospital started an initiative to ensure that they get paid; when 65% of your patients are Medicaid and you’re getting 30 cents on the dollar for their care, you’d better make sure to get that 30 cents. Being a trusted and motivated employee (RN, nursing masters, certified case manager), she was asked to be the CM lead to make sure docs were coding patients properly, essential for billing the government; she maintains they are far stricter than the insurance companies about the Ts being crossed and Is being dotted.
Over the past year, she’s discovered things like Medicaid and “free care” (hospital code for illegals) recipients getting elective plastic surgery like breast enhancements and tummy tucks. Gastric bypass for the virbant community is off the charts. International patients from the Middle East, desirable because they pay cash on the barrel head, actually paying at about 60% full price (hey, it’s a haggling culture) and the continued overuse of the ER by the Medicaid-American community, something that was supposed to be eradicated by Obamacare.
One of her tasks was to verify usage by the “frequent flyers”, non-chronic condition patients with excessive visits. The most egregious was an immigrant with FIFTY-THREE visits the previous fiscal year, all for OD or injuries related to his substance abuse. The cops get a call, the ambulance shows up and takes him to the hospital. Everyone gets a piece of the action except the taxpayers.
As ol’ Reg says, it’s not the quality of the healthcare, it’s the quality of US residents.
* According to retired ER doctors I have talked to, in 1997 Diana would have had roughly fifty-fity chances even in 1997 were she brought to a first class US trauma center within ten to fifteen minutes, and today somewhat better. The French approach is considered ridiculous.
* I’ve seen some of Hitler’s artwork online and it is quite impressive. The whole line about him being a “failed artist” is, like so much that we have heard about him, rather misleading.
* Just thinking about it, Trump vs Sanders is a dream match up for Trump. All he has to do is replay the BLM Sanders protest for an advertisement, over and over. No one wants a weak leader.

If whites enslaving blacks are the sole cause of black problems and there are no differences in ability, how did whites come to be in the position to enslave blacks? Why do blacks still contribute so little to science? Why does no other racial ethnic group in the world commit as much violence as blacks? Why do the vast majority of other groups/cultures/etc have more peaceful and more advanced societies?
These questions could go on forever and only a feeble mind will think “racism” is the answer.
* Dr. Miller’s brilliant breakthrough on “Fury Road” was to pay cash money to a famous feminist ideologue for consulting and then go ahead and make his usual testosterone overload movie. Everybody was happy, and the ploy cost barely a rounding error in the budget.
* David Chappelle undoubtedly had tons of pressure from his fellow blacks to knock it off. That he was making all blacks look really foolish in the eyes of the white man. Of course other black comedians have done this but Chappelle was far too good at it.
* Lay people can never tell how good a doctor is since they lack the expertise. But rest assured that increasing the numbers of lazy dummies in the medical field will result in a significant decline in outcomes. Of course, scientific advancement will mask this decline, much as it has masked the decline in physicians’ clinical skill over the last few decades.
The need of the hour is for an open competitive system for doctors, where they are judged by outcomes and these outcomes are published for all to see. You’ll see the numbers of affirmative action physicians begin to drop real fast.

Ashdod, Israel (CNN)Yoav Krief remembers the day he knew it was time to move to Israel: January 9, 2015.
It was a Friday. Four Jews had just been killed in the Hyper Cacher, a kosher supermarket in Paris, two days after the Charlie Hebdo attack. One of them was Krief’s friend.
“I was not good, really not good,” Krief says of how he felt at the time. “I talked to my mom, and I said, ‘We must go to Israel. We need to go to Israel.'”
Krief, a French Jew who had just finished high school, moved to Israel with his family six months later, as part of the largest migration of Jews from Western Europe to Israel since the modern state of Israel was created.
Nearly 8,000 French Jews moved to Israel in the year following the Charlie Hebdo attack, according to the Jewish Agency, which handles Jewish immigration, or aliyah, to Israel.
The number of French Jews moving to Israel has doubled — and doubled again — in the past five years.
In 2013, less than 3,300 French Jews moved to Israel. Only two years earlier, that number stood at 1,900.
Britain has the second-highest Jewish emigration from Western Europe, but the scale is much smaller. According to the Jewish Agency, 774 British Jews moved to Israel in 2015, less than one-tenth the number of French Jews.

* Interesting, given that El Salvador has the strictest abortion law in the Western Hemisphere. All abortions are always illegal and they have imprisoned women for having miscarriages. I see no alternative but for men to be prohibited from having sex in El Salvador until this virus is cured.
* El Salvador has been a hopelessly over-populated land mass of limited self-sustainablity for quite some time, with only some moderate relief being supplied by a huge diaspora in the US and however many gangsters, guerillas, sympathizers and collateral damage victims the paramilitary death squads, gangs and guerillas have been able to eradicate.
If las Güanacas can manage to stay un-knocked up until 2018, why can’t they go a little more distance with that program? The place needs a major distancing from the influence in the government of the Roman Catholic Church. So sorry Pat Buchanan.
* The premise of Children of Men is pretty much the same as V for Vendetta– that Britain is the lone country to have avoided complete societal breakdown by imposing an authoritarian, nativist government…one that refugees from the rest of the world still want to flee to. Like a lot of lefty fantasies, it manages to be self-flattering and self-flagellating at the same time.
* I wonder how many public policy decisions have caused more deaths than the decision to ban DDT (rather than say, careful regulation of its use). Since a big part of Black Lives Matter is revising history, how come Rachel Carson is immune? Banning one of the most effective tools against the Anopheles mosquito after it’s been eradicated from N. America and Europe, but still virulent in Africa? Doesn’t that meet the definition of genocide for the BLM crowd?
* The Knick. The show is quite PC. A running sub-plot involves one of the characters becoming a pro-eugenics zealot.As you might expect, that character (Dr Everett Gallinger) is a blond WASP. There’s even a scene where he sterilizes an explicitly Jewish boy (Gallinger actually asks him if he is a “Yid” before commencing the procedure).

* Children of Men sort of glosses over the violence that the African immigrants commit against the native English. In contrast, today CNN had a pretty even handed article on the pogroms that Muslim immigrants are committing against Jews in France. Article says that a record number of Jews have been driven out of France by the pogroms.
I wonder if Trump made a direct appeal to orthodox Jews in the
US, perhaps campaigning with his orthodox Jewish grandchildren could he gain the endorsement of some prominent rabbis?
Such an endorsement could expand the overton window for Trump.
* Everybody wanted to immigrate to UK in the movie because racist fascist UK was the only place on Earth which still had some sort of social order. Most of the world was destroyed by wars, nuclear damage and anarchy – so it wasn’t only sterility but complete breakdown of civilization. “The World Has Collapsed, Only Britain Soldiers On” was the title of a short propaganda film within the movie which shows global cities in flames and ruin, and there were some other references about wars and global disorder during the movie. Of course, after they destroyed their own antifascist countries all those poor people had no other choice but to immigrate and live under racist fascist British government. Obviously, the movie tried to show that there are some good points about fascism.
* And naturally it is the African female immigrant and her White cuck orbiters who “saves” the day and ushers in the brave new fecund multicultural society.
Unintentional as it is Children of Men is an excellent metaphor for European population replacement.

The publication of a special “Stop Trump” issue of National Review was heralded in a blaze of publicity. Editor Rich Lowry appeared on Fox News and was interviewed by Trump nemesis Megyn Kelly, where he proceeded to denounce The Donald as a threat to the intellectual integrity of the conservative movement. A “symposium” of anti-Trump conservatives was published featuring such luminaries as Thomas Sowell, Bill Kristol, Michael Medved, and a score of others likening the flamboyant real estate mogul turned GOP presidential frontrunner to Hitler, Mussolini, Juan Peron, and Andrew Dice Clay (!).
These polemics are accompanied by a furious editorial, which attacks Trump as “a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.” Furthermore, the editors instructed their readers that “he is not deserving of conservative support in the caucuses and primaries.” Sneering that Trump is a “huckster,” they end their polemic with a fiery rhetorical flourish worthy of Smaug:
“Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot in behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as the Donald himself.”
The icing on the cake is the cover of the print issue, which is emblazoned with the battle cry “Against Trump,” decorated with a Roman-esque curlicue that one assumes is supposed to give the contents the look if not the weight of a Papal interdict.
All well and good: there are plenty of reasons for principled conservatives (and libertarians) to oppose Trump. However, there’s one big problem with this well-publicized blast at The Donald.
In March of last year, Politicoreported that National Review was becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which would enable it to solicit tax-deductible donations: “Since its launch, the magazine has operated as a not-for-profit business, even as it came to rely on more and more donations in recent years. Starting next month, it will become a nonprofit organization, which will make it exempt from federal taxes. National Review also plans to merge with the nonprofit National Review Institute, its sister organization, according to a source with knowledge of the plans.”
Rich Lowry averred that the shift would be good for the magazine, which was fighting a costly lawsuit and had never been profitable anyway. “We're a mission and a cause, not a profit-making business,” he told Politico. “The advantage of the move is that all the generous people who give us their support every year will now be able to give tax-deductible contributions, and that we will be able to do more fundraising, in keeping with our goal to keep growing in the years ahead.’”
This anti-Trump issue of National Review is, in effect, a campaign pamphlet directed against a political candidate—indeed, the cover proclaims “Against Trump”—and, as such, is in clear violation of IRS statutes regulating nonprofit organizations.
The regulations are quite explicit that nonprofit organizations must “not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.”
The IRS web site informs us that “The regulations further provide that activities that constitute participation or intervention in a political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to a candidate include, but are not limited to, the publication or distribution of written statements or the making of oral statements on behalf of or in opposition to such a candidate.”
Lest there be any confusion on anyone’s part, we are given no less than twenty-one examples of specific situations where the question of endangering the organization’s nonprofit status might arise. We are told that the leaders of a nonprofit are free to endorse or campaign against candidates as individuals: therefore, say, the minister of a church may call a press conference and announce his support for—or opposition to—a candidate for office. Since he is speaking only for himself, and not the church, and is not utilizing church resources, this is perfectly legitimate under the law as written. However, the IRS goes on to cite another example that fits the anti-Trump issue of National Review to a tee:
“President B is the president of University K, a section 501(c)(3) organization. University K publishes a monthly alumni newsletter that is distributed to all alumni of the university. In each issue, President B has a column titled ‘My Views.’ The month before the election, President B states in the “My Views” column, ‘It is my personal opinion that Candidate U should be reelected.’ For that one issue, President B pays from his personal funds the portion of the cost of the newsletter attributable to the “My Views” column. Even though he paid part of the cost of the newsletter, the newsletter is an official publication of the university. Because the endorsement appeared in an official publication of University K, it constitutes campaign intervention by University K.”
National Review, as a nonprofit entity under section 501(c)3 of the IRS code is clearly analogous to “University K.” The magazine is the publication of the tax-exempt National Review Institute, whose editors are urging their readers to oppose Trump. In spite of the fact that the collected polemics in this issue are presented as a “Symposium,” there is no debate, there are no dissenting voices. The verdict is unanimous: Don’t vote for Trump!

A few friends and I at Donald Trump fansite Atlas After Dark have done some digging into the Washington Post story released earlier this week about Marco Rubio’s youthful indiscretions (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rubios-summer-of-90-an-arrest-then-newfound-purpose/2016/01/21/3582a72e-c04d-11e5-bcda-62a36b394160_story.html). As a quick summary: we know that the man Rubio was arrested with in 1990 was sued by Miami in 2007 for running a gay pornography studio out of one of his properties. We believe the totality of the evidence strongly implies that Rubio was engaged in sexual relations with that man in 1990, and that’s why they were arrested. Why the Washington Post reporters did not look more fully into this story, we don’t know. Full story below.
The story, published on January 21st, notes that Rubio was with his friend, Angel Barrios, and another unnamed young man, when they were stopped by the police in Alice C. Wainwright Park at about 10 PM on May 23, 1990. Unfortunately, the article does not give very much information about Mr. Barrios, other than the fact that he owns several coin-operated laundries in the Miami area. So I decided to try and find out who this guy is. His LinkedIn page was easy to find: https://www.linkedin.com/in/angel-barrios-19387360. Further searches revealed a case filed by the City of Miami against an Angel Barrios in 2007, seeking to enjoin him from allowing the use of his residential property for business purposes (http://www.miamigov.com/cityattorney/docs/litigation/Litigation-Report-Dec-2011.pdf). What were these business purposes? The production of pornography for distribution over the internet, by a company named Flava Works. What kind of pornography? Gay pornography: http://flavaworks.com (warning NSFW).
Okay, but maybe “Angel Barrios” is a common name. Maybe they’re totally different Angels! But one of the co-defendants in the City of Miami’s suit was “Barrios Investment Group.” And according to Mr. Barrios’ LinkedIn profile, linked above, what company did he own from 1995-2007? Barrios Investment Group. Angel Barrios the coin-operated-laundromat-owning childhood friend of Marco Rubio is assuredly Angel Barrios, the man sued by Miami in 2007 for running a gay pornography studio out of one of his residential properties.
Now, the story itself notes that this park was notorious at the time for deviant, illegal activity: “Gang warfare, gunfire, prostitution (straight and gay), drug dealing and muggings.” A police officer quoted in the story notes that people went there to drink, do drugs and have sex. So the story itself notes, twice, that this park was frequently used for public sex, both gay and straight. For cruising. A quick google search for “wrainwright park cruising” confirms this, with reviews of the park including: “Wander through and see what you can find. Afternoons are sometimes busy with business men looking for a quickie over lunch. Crowd: Young guys looking for a blow job. Local latinos with loving to share” (http://www.cruisinggays.com/Miami/areas/2416-Alice-Wainwright-Park/). Nonetheless, the article seems to ignore the possibility that young Rubio may have been stopped and arrested for having public sex in that parked car.
Of course, you say, that’s a mighty big leap, to assume he was having sex. Angel Barrios, quoted frequently in the article, notes that they were just “hanging out.” But the information offered by and about Mr. Barrios in the article is deeply suspicious. He seems to be fraught with guilt about that night (“We never even used to go to that area,” he said. “That might have been the first time I went there.”); he says he does not remember key facts about the night (“I don’t think we got handcuffed and taken to jail”); Rubio apparently dedicated an intimate senior yearbook quote to Mr. Barrios; and the two shared a townhouse together after graduating from high school.
So, in 1990, Marco Rubio was found by the police “hanging out” in a parked car, in a dark and secluded park with a reputation as a gay cruising spot, with another young man who he was very very close to, who he lived with after high school, who went on to run a gay pornography studio out of one of his properties. Obviously, nothing is definitive here; unfortunately there is no photo of Angel and Marco caught naked together. But all the facts added together, along with the fact that Rubio has been dogged with rumors about his sexuality for his entire career, do seem to be awfully, awfully suspicious.
* Apparently Rubio was arrested when he was young late in the night at a park notorious for still in the closet gay sex among latino men. This reminds me of posts sailer and unz have made about the powers behind the scenes wanting politicians with baggage so they can control them. Mccain being a rat for the NVA, Hastert being a pedo, Bill Clinton being a rapist, etc.
No wonder the elites are pushing Rubio! And no wonder why he started pushing amnesty even though he ran against it.
Freddie Rodriguez is discouraged. He has just come from his afternoon’s activity of trying to stop men from having unprotected sex in Miami’s Alice Wainwright Park, a popular gay cruising spot. Rodriguez, 29, is a slim, handsome Cuban-American with a pale, worried face who works for Health Crisis Network. “I take a bag of condoms to the park with me and I try talking to people before they duck in the bushes and have sex,” he explains. “I tell them how dangerous it is. Sometimes I beg them to use a condom. Sometimes they listen to me. Today, no one was interested.” Most of the men, he says, are Latinos and range in age from 16 to 60. Many are married and would never describe themselves as gay. “Discrimination is not really the issue here. Most Latinos do not identify themselves as gay, so they’re not discriminated against,” he says, his voice drifting off. “Ours is a culture of denial.”
To understand why the second wave of aids is hitting Latinos particularly hard, one would do well to start in Miami. Once a mecca for retirees, South Beach today is a frenzy of dance and sex clubs, for hetero- and homosexual alike. “We have the highest rate of heterosexual transmission in the country, the second-highest number of babies born with aids and we are number one nationwide for teen HIV cases,” says Randi Jenson, reeling off a litany that clearly exhausts him. Jenson supervises the Miami Beach hiv/aids Project and sits on the board of the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Community Center. “And we have the highest rate of bisexuality in the country.” When I ask how he knows this, he says, “Trust me on this one, we know…. The numbers to watch for in the future will be Hispanic women–the wives and girlfriends.”
Already, aids is the leading cause of death in Miami and Fort Lauderdale for women ages 25 to 44, four times greater than the national average. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc), aids cases among Hispanics have been steadily rising. But any foray into the Latino subculture shows that the numbers do not tell the whole story, and may not even tell half. CDC literature notes that “it is believed that aids-related cases and deaths for Latinos are understated by at least 30 percent. Many Hispanics do not and cannot access HIV testing and health care.” Abetted by widespread shame about homosexuality, a fear of governmental and medical institutions (particularly among undocumented immigrants) and cultural denial as deep as Havana Harbor, aids is moving silently and insistently through Hispanic America. It is the stealth virus.
“No one knows how many Latino HIV cases are out there,” Damian Pardo, an affable Cuban-American, who is president of the board of Health Crisis Network, tells me over lunch in Coral Gables. “All we know is that the numbers are not accurate–that the actual cases are far higher. Everyone in the community lies about HIV.” Everyone, according to Pardo, means the families, the lovers, the priests, the doctors and the patients. “The Hispanic community in South Florida is far more affluent than blacks. More often than not, people see their own family doctor who simply signs a falsified death certificate. It’s a conspiracy of silence and everyone is complicitous.”
Freddie Rodriguez–smart, affluent, urbane–didn’t learn that Luis, his Nicaraguan lover, was HIV-positive until it was too late to do anything about it. “He was my first boyfriend. He would get sick at times but he refused to take a blood test. He said that it was impossible for him to be HIV-positive. I believed him. One day, he disappeared. Didn’t come home, didn’t go to work– just disappeared.” Frantic, Rodriguez called the police and started phoning hospitals. Finally, Luis turned up at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He had been discovered unconscious and rushed to intensive care. When Rodriguez arrived at the hospital, he learned that his lover was in the aids wing. Even then, Luis insisted it was a mistake. Two weeks later, he was dead. “I had to tell Luis’s family that he was gay,” Rodriguez says, “that I was his boyfriend and that he had died of aids. They knew nothing. He lived a completely secret life.”
Although Rodriguez was enraged by his lover’s cowardice, he understood his dilemma all too well. He remembered how hard it was to tell his own family. ” When I was 22, I finally told my parents that I was gay. My mother screamed and ran out of the room. My father raised his hands in front of his eyes and told me, Freddie do you see what’s in front of me? It’s a big, white cloud. I do not hear anything, see anything and I cannot remember anything because it is all in this big white cloud.’ And then he left the room.” One of Rodriguez’s later boyfriends, this one Peruvian, was also HIV-positive, but far more duplicitous. “He flat out lied to me when I asked him. He knew, but he only told me after we broke up, after we had unsafe sex,” says Rodriguez, who remains HIV-negative. “Part of the machismo ethic,” Rodriguez explains, ” is not wearing a condom.”
Miami’s Body Positive, which provides psychological and non-clinical services to aids patients, is housed in a pink concrete bubble off Miami’s Biscayne Boulevard. The building and much of its funding are provided by founder Doris Feinberg, who lost both her sons to aids during the late 1980s. The gay Cuban-American star of MTV’s “The Real World,” Pedro Zamora, worked here for the last five years of his life and started its P.O.P. program–Peer Outreach for Persons Who Are Positive. Ernie Lopez, a 26-year-old Nicaraguan who has been Body Positive’s director for the last five years, estimates that 40 percent of the center’s clients are Latino, in a Miami population that is 70 percent Hispanic. On the day I visit, I see mostly black men at the facility. Lopez warns me not to be fooled. “The Latino numbers are as high as the blacks, but they are not registered,” he says. “Latinos want anonymity. They come in very late–when they are desperate and their disease is very progressed. Often it’s too late to help them.”

Dennis Prager writes: I have never surfed. I am not a rabbi and I am not a Chassidic Jew. So why am I writing a foreword to Surfing Rabbi? Because Rabbi Nachum Shifren is doing wonderful work on behalf of Judaism and all God-based religion. For too long religious life has been identified with asceticism, and Rabbi Shifren has decided to help undo that unfortunate association. The very fact that “surfing rabbi” strikes virtually all of us as almost an oxymoron shows how necessary such a rabbi is. Jews in particular identify religious Judaism with a lack of joy and with a retreat from worldly pursuits. This lack of identification of religious Judaism with the world and with earthly pleasure has been, unfortunately, often legitimate. Orthodox Judaism is a law-filled religion governing almost all of one’s behaviors. Add to that the amount of suffering in Jewish history and you have a recipe for a rather somber religious life. Then in the eighteenth century, along came Chassidism with an emphasis on “worshiping God through joy/happiness.” The most noted practitioners of this joyful Judaism are the Chassidim known as Chabad. Rabbi Nachum Shifren is a Chabad chassid who exemplifies this joy-filled Judaism. His vehicle is love of the oceans and surfing. Accomplished surfer and devout Jew that he is, Rabbi Shifren touches people who would most probably never encounter a rabbi, let alone an Orthodox one. By exuding a love of life and joy in the natural world as God’s creation, the Surfing Rabbi becomes a living ode to God the Creator. This is his story. It is a good and inspiring one.
