Though the great British novelist died six weeks before I was born, I know his spiritual brother — Robert J. Avrech.
I don’t know if Avrech is ever as boorish as Waugh who was wont to say to his hostess about a guest: "Why do you expect me to talk to this boring pig? He’s common, he’s ignorant and he’s stupid. He thinks Picasso is an important artist."
I don’t know if Avrech ever says such things… I can only hope that he does…
I’m feeling quite lost without my mommy (Evelyn’s spiritual sister) — Cathy Seipp.
"Oh, you flatterer!" she’d say if she could read this post.
Pardon?
There, now, would you be so kind as to pass the serviette so I can wipe my eyes. There’s one in the spare room.
