Two Republican U.S. Senators Going Down

Bob Armstrong writes:

First it was Louisiana’s David Vitter caught with a hooker supplied by the DC Madam, now Idaho’s Larry Craig nabbed in a restroom stall. Craig’s apparent unquenchable desire for an exchange of semen broke today in the DC political journal Roll Call, a wonky publication for the inside the beltway crowd Craig was popped by a plainclothes officer during an on-going sting operation at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.

As the Roll Call story reports, Craig first peeked through the crack in the stall for about two minutes where the cop was waiting for bait. Our fine family values senator from Idaho went into the stall next to the cop. A game of footsy ensued. "Craig tapped his toes several times and moved his foot closer to my foot," wrote the cop in his report. Craig swiped his hand under the stall divider several times, at which point the cop did the same, flashing his badge. Busted.

What is more stunning than Craig’s desires is WHEN this happened and WHERE it came out. Craig was popped in the can on June 11. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct on August 8. Whatever happened to 24/7 news? Neither the Idaho or Minneapolis media broke the story. It only came out today in Roll Call. (The Idaho Statesman caught up with it after the report in Roll Call.)

Craig now says he should not have pleaded guilty, that he did so only to handle the matter "quickly and expeditiously." He said when the incident occurred he told the police "they were misconstruing my actions." And, according to the vice cop, he told them something else which is more revealing than a blow job under the sink. During the interview with officers at the Airport Police Operations Center, Craig handed the cop who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U. S. Senator and said, "What do you think about that?"

Whatever the cop said in response is not in the report. But we all know what to think about that. The arrogance of power never ceases.
