I Have No Compassion For Drug Addicts & Alcoholics

I only have contempt. If you want to get sober, good for you, but don’t look to me for support. If you want to practice unsafe sex and catch a deadly disease (physical or spiritual), I have contempt for you.

I reserve my compassion for people who suffer out of no fault of their own.

I have contempt for people who expect a free ride, who expect the government to legislate away their problems, who sue over the ordinary hardships of life. I’m sick of people who expect their employers to care for them, to give them special treatment when they’re hurting, etc.

I’ve been reading Jayson Blair’s memoir and it has set me off on this rage to say that I don’t care for people such as him who sabotage their own lives and needlessly hurt the innocent.

I too would like a free ride through life. My capacity for self-pity and exploitation of others is infinite. I have no sympathy for this large part of myself either.
