I told them I don’t feel so privileged having crackheads screaming at me every time I step outside my apartment. I told this guy I thought it was pretty sad that he sees his own existence as a problem that needs correcting. He was saying he was “part of the problem of gentrification”. I said “it’s so much better if neighborhoods stay poor and shitty isn’t it?” It’s not fun or romantic to live in a slum where you are constantly harassed. What I really wanted to say to him was: they really drilled it into you, didn’t they?
