Feeling sad I couldn’t work ‘The tragic mulatto’ into last night’s Shabbat dinner

I’m checking all the Facebook pages to make sure I was not socially inappropriate last night.

We all took turns sharing, and in a break from the tradition of giving one thing we were grateful for that week, we instead each bagged on the Jews.

Everybody at the table was considerably more successful and more affluent than me and yet I was older than everyone by ten years. It was cool to sit there, I was quiet most of the night, and to just look and to just experience how life could be lived. Dinner was delicious. Life in LA can be so sweet. Even the dog was adorable.

Sigh. Yearn. Maybe one day I’ll have a story about my uncooperative co-op and how they wouldn’t let me sell to Muslims.

Nobody likes a loser, but everybody loves a winner, particularly a shiny one.
