Half Of Modern Orthodox Teens Text On Shabbos

The addiction to texting is so severe among Modern Orthodox kids that about half of them text on Shabbos according to this Jewish Week article.

This is a really big deal because texting on Shabbos violates the Sabbath and more importantly, will tend to spill out into behavior that is public, thus disrupting the Shabbat experience of those around them.

To persistently violate a cardinal law of Sabbath observance will inevitably deteriorate overall Sabbath and Jewish observance.

This is the first time I’ve become aware of an action engaged in by half or more of Modern Orthodox teens that violates the Sabbath.

Modern Orthodoxy is in big trouble when Modern Orthodox Jews can’t let go of their addictions to technology for 25 hours.
