About Last Night

I get mail:

Luke, are you MAD at me? What’s with not looking at me? Have to say that’s the best brushoff I’ve ever seen…a finger wave WHILE LOOKING IN ANOTHER DIRECTION.

Also: I remember at your book party on the roof…such a great party. I was mostly goofing off with Maia. You were mostly being surrounded by women hanging on you. When I wanted to say goodbye I asked Cathy, "What should I do to say goodbye to Luke? I know he won’t touch a woman, so should I just wave or stand there?" She said, "Oh, that’s ok. Just go over there and shake hands with him. That’s fine, he’ll shake hands with you. It’s just ME he won’t touch." There wasn’t any bitterness in her voice, but maybe a faint sadness and a touch of pleasure that she was special in that way.

So I went up to you and you gave me this great hug and held me at your side for a couple of minutes. It felt so good, but I didn’t look at Cathy because I didn’t want her to see that it made me feel good, or that it was more than shaking hands.

Wah, I don’t want to be untouchable. I wish you would hug me when we meet.
