I just caught an advanced screening. Here’s my video review.
The movie’s about an alcoholic. Normally I hate movies about alcoholics. I can’t stand alcoholics. I don’t know why, but it is one weakness (along with drug abuse) that I find particularly loathsome and I have no compassion. Drug and alcohol abuse just seem to me like an unhealthy way to escape your problems. Why do people become drunks and drug addicts? Because they are bored and their lives are empty.
Anyway, this alcoholic can still shoot straight and he kills a lot of bad guys and I think that’s cool. Then he takes on some rogue cops and the movie hurtles to the finish.
It kept my attention throughout. There’s plenty of action and humor and the plot doesn’t dawdle.
Here’s the plot outline on IMDB: "Tom Ludlow is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he’s been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him."
