NASA Chief: Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World

From Fox News:

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his “foremost” mission as the head of America’s space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA’s orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.

“When I became the NASA administrator — or before I became the NASA administrator — he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math and engineering,” Bolden said in the interview.

Luke says: This made no sense to me until I remembered how many left-wingers believe that if our society only made blacks and other minorities feel better about themselves, they’d achieve more. So it would make sense that these left-wingers would believe that making Muslims feel better about themselves would result in less criminal violence.

On his radio show yesterday, Dennis Prager says: “Imagine if he had said relations with the Buddhist world. Everybody would’ve thought, huh?

“This, you can’t say anything. There’s no such as Buddhaphobic but if you even mention just huh, it opens you up to some form of phobia.

“But the issue here is not phobia but logic.

“The average guy in Cairo has been saying that better relations with NASA is up there with the haj.”

On Fox News Monday, Charles Krauthammer said: “This is a new height in fatuousness. NASA was established to get America into space and to keep us there. This idea to feel good about their past scientific achievements is the worst combination of group therapy, psycho-babble, imperial condescension and adolescent diplomacy. If I didn’t know that Obama had told this, I’d demanded the firing of Charles Bolden the way I would with Michael Steele.”

Dennis Prager quotes a Pakistani physicist writing in the August 2007 issue of Physics Today that there’s been no major invention or discovery in the Muslim world for more than 700 years.
