Shalhevet Ousts Founder Jerry Friedman?

Friedman led the school for years and contributed much of its funding. There was a contentious board meeting last week at Shalhevet, the most left-wing of L.A.’s Orthodox day schools. The upshot? Friedman walked away from the school. He’s been in a nasty fight with various board members that’s gone on for months. Much of the staff and instructors at the school are there because of Jerry Friedman. Their days at Shalhevet are now numbered. Shalhevet is left with a major financial problem because Friedman has long been their number one funder. Rabbi Shalom Tendler left YULA boys highschool last year and started his own school (Birchas Yitzchok). Rabbi Tendler was YULA’s rosh yeshiva and the major force pushing it to the right (and the reason many parents chose to send their kids to Shalhevet).
