I’m listening to this lecture by Alison Armstrong (UnderstandMen.com) about the "amazing development of men."
I’m trying to figure out which stage of life I am in.
This is my second time listening to this lecture.
I just figured it out. I’m "in the tunnel."
Alison says: Before I tell you about the next stage, which is obviously the King, I will tell you about the stage a man goes through before becoming the King. This happens after all the hard work and intensity of being a prince. We call this time in a man’s life "The Tunnel". A man we know who has been through the tunnel calls this’the descent into darkness before the further you go, the less certain you are.’
"When the tunnel begins depends on when a man started his real career. The Tunnel begins 12-15 years after that. Men are in the Tunnel from six months to three years. In the Tunnel, he undergoes a profound transformation from becoming to being. This is an intense soul-searching time for a man. He’s searching out what he values. This can be regarded as a sacred time in a man’s life.
"In our culture, we call The Tunnel a mid-life crisis… He has to go through this alone and to distance himself from other people."
I started my real career as a writer in the fall of 1995. I was 29.
