Are People Basically Good?

Dennis Prager:

On his radio show today, Dennis said: The founders of this country had a very skeptical view of human nature. They understood that people have selfish desires. That’s why they didn’t trust power. Liberals trust power because they trust people more than conservatives. Conservatives don’t believe people are basically good, liberals do.

That’s why this is not a democracy. It’s a republic. Only one branch of government (legislature) and only one half of that branch was decided by public vote.

The founders did not even trust the people. "Power to the people" is a leftist belief based on the belief that people are basically good and so you give them as much power as possible.

The general American belief has been that non-governmental bodies — generally religion — stop us from our worst behavior. That’s where we will keep a check on ourselves.
