I love granola! I wonder if the sugar is balanced with fats and protein, it does not negatively affect your blood sugar levels as much?

SFGATE: “Protein and fats by themselves do not affect blood sugar, but their nutritional impact might also help to mitigate the blood sugar effects of carbohydrates. According to a study published in 2006 in “The Journal of Nutrition,” when between 5 and 30 grams of protein or fat is added to a 50-gram intake of pure glucose, blood sugar responses significantly decrease, with protein having an effect approximately three times greater than that of fat. While this study was done with dissolved nutrients rather than solid food, it indicates that protein and fat could independently help control blood glucose impact when consumed with carbohydrates.”

I have no expertise in nutrition, but that is my personal experience. I used to have pre-diabetes (blood sugar levels around 106). By cutting out fruit juice and making sure I have protein at every meal, I’ve reduced my blood sugar levels into the 80s.

New York Times:

A cup of Nature Valley Oats ’n Honey Protein Granola has 24 grams of sugar and actually contains more sugar than protein by weight. Nature Valley also has a Peanut Butter ’n Dark Chocolate Protein Granola that has 30 grams of sugar per cup. Bear Naked Honey Almond Granola has 20 grams of sugar per cup.

By comparison, a slice of chocolate cake with frosting has 26 grams of sugar. A cup of ice cream has 28 grams of sugar. A regular Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut has 10 grams of sugar, according to the Krispy Kreme website…

Dr. Jackson was a health reformer who ran a sanitarium in Dansville, N.Y. — about 80 miles east of Buffalo — where he advocated vegetarianism and a diet of simple foods. His granula was probably not very tasty by today’s standards. But giving up ham and griddlecakes for simple grains often relieved indigestion and made a lot of people feel better, Ms. Carroll said.

Eventually, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, another health reformer who owned a rival sanitarium in Michigan, stole Dr. Jackson’s recipe. When Dr. Jackson sued, Dr. Kellogg changed the name of his cereal to granola, which he and his brother, Will Keith Kellogg, experimented with, leading to the creation of cornflakes.

Dr. Kellogg wanted to keep his cereals sugar-free — he was a Seventh-day Adventist who famously advocated against alcohol, meat, sugar, tobacco and sexual activity. But his brother, Will, insisted on sweetening them, and the two parted ways. Will went on to launch the Kellogg Company, and its enormously popular sweet cereals, which eventually included Froot Loops and Cocoa Krispies.

While sugary cereals soared in popularity over the following decades, granola remained a mainstay in the Seventh-day Adventist community, which is known to shun foods high in sugar, salt and other additives. Packaged granola is believed to have first appeared in the 1960s when one Adventist and granola promoter, Layton Gentry — nicknamed Johnny Granola-Seed by Time magazine — sold his recipe of rolled oats, wheat germ and sesame seeds to two food companies. As granola crossed over from the Seventh-day Adventist community to the mainstream, it became increasingly laden with sugar.

Invade The World, Invite The World

* If you want the government to meddle in domestic affairs, you’re a liberal.
If you want the government to meddle in foreign affairs, you’re a conservative.
If you want the government to meddle in domestic and foreign affairs, you’re a moderate.
If you want the government to meddle nowhere, you’re an extremist.

* Whichever party has been in power, they have pursued a policy of invade the world and invite the world. Hence Steve is right to focus on and attack that sick combination of policies, even if there are obviously people who have the combination of viewpoints that you mention.

* Re-electing McCain is not in the interests of Arizonans, either, if they don’t think it’s in their interest to have more of their kids and grandkids needlessly killed, maimed, or traumatized in unnecessary, nondefensive, unauthorized wars. Arizonans also pay interest– soon to be much higher interest — on the massive deficit spending McCain has supported and still advocates. Arizonans are also physically, economically, and culturally harmed and marginalized by the in going waves of legal and illegal aliens from the third world whom McCain loves to let in, more than people in most states.

To vote against McCain in the primary, then, it’s not even necessary to consider the interests of the whole country. Arizonans’ interests don’t lie with McCain, either.

* You would think that they would update your Wikipedia page to indicate that you originated the meme: Invade the world, Invite the world.

I mean, it seems more important than shortening Alternative Right to Alt-Right.

* Interesting how McCain is generally held up by the media as the Maverick Republican who fully embraces “Invade the World, Invite the World”. There is a strange aura to McCain and his unique appeal to Beltway journalists. In many ways, Beltway journalists have always been McCain’s base of support. Frankly, McCain’s appeal never made any sense to me.

It looks like McCain’s military record has a few holes in it which would make him somewhat vulnerable to blackmail, but the key hole in his record is likely his marriage to Cindy McCain. Cindy McCain’s father, Jim Hensley, built a massive fortune on an exclusive Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship and a horse racetrack operation likely with a little help from organized crime.

Always interesting what names do not seem to warrant a Wikipedia page. The patron sponsor of Jim Hensley was Kemper Marley, a long time Arizona political king maker with some shadowy connections. It looks like Jim Hensley was rewarded the lucrative beer distributorship for taking the fall for Kemper Marley in an earlier illegal alcohol distribution operation. Kemper Marley was on the board of directors of the bank that would finance Bugsy Siegel’s Flamingo Casino. Despite his long influence in Arizona politics and the Arizona history museum that bears his name, Kemper Marley lacks a Wikipedia entry for some reason.

On June 2, 1976, investigative journalist, Don Bolles, was the victim of a car bombing in Phoenix, Arizona, likely tied to organized crime. Although never proven, allegations were that the attack was in connection with Bolles investigation of Kemper Marley. Bolles last words were “They finally got me. The Mafia. Emprise. Find John.”

Emprise exists today as Delaware North (after the address of their headquarters in Buffalo, New York) and continues to operate casinos, hotel and other attractions. In 1971, Emprise and other mafia associates were found to be illegal “secret” partners in the Frontier Casino back in the 1960′s. One of the “straight” owners of the Frontier in the 1960′s was a young Steve Wynn. The mob interests in the Frontier Casino, including Emprise, were bought out by Howard Hughes and his Mormon handlers in 1967.

Nice little anecdote. Most of the major casinos “in” Las Vegas are not actually in Las Vegas, but in Paradise, Nevada. The original name of the Frontier Casino was the “Pair-O-Dice” nightclub. I never thought of that pun.

Regardless, maybe the reason McCain is the perpetual choice of the Establishment and Beltway journalists is that he married into a family fortune with deep organized crime connections.

Puts things in perspective.

* Being a US Senator must be amazing. Imagine being 80 and being married to an heiress worth 9-figures. You’d figure that relaxing and spending her money would be an attractive proposition, but he’d rather spend another 6 years in the Senate.

While America’s political kingmakers inject their millions into high-profile presidential and congressional contests, Democratic mega-donor George Soros has directed his wealth into an under-the-radar 2016 campaign to advance one of the progressive movement’s core goals — reshaping the American justice system.
The billionaire financier has channeled more than $3 million into seven local district attorney campaigns in six states over the past year — a sum that exceeds the total spent on the 2016 presidential campaign by all but a handful of rival super-donors.

His money has supported African-American and Hispanic candidates for these powerful local roles, all of whom ran on platforms sharing major goals of Soros’, like reducing racial disparities in sentencing and directing some drug offenders to diversion programs instead of to trial. It is by far the most tangible action in a progressive push to find, prepare and finance criminal justice reform-oriented candidates for jobs that have been held by long-time incumbents and serve as pipelines to the federal courts — and it has inspired fury among opponents angry about the outside influence in local elections.

6 Media Pillars Of The Alt-Right

* Breitbart is not alt-right because it does not accept race as being of any importance. Increasingly, Breitbart is noticing race, but it still cannot see it or understand it outside of the moral-framework which the left has set up.

The alt-right operates outside of the moral-framework which the left has set up. An alt-rightist does not bristle with indignation when called a racist — he shrugs and smugly responds, ‘what of it?’

The alt-rightist, like the Breitbart reader, values Western civiization. But the alt-rightist has a better understanding of the origins of western civilization than the breitbart reader. Yes, Christianity was important (as Fukuyama explained in his book ‘the origins of political order’) but race was important too — and still is.

The global south is on the move. Without a unified white response, the white race will be overwhelmed and fall, and with it western civilization. Science, rule of law, entrepreneurship — these are aspects of white culture and will vanish from the face of the earth should the white race fall.

* Europeans will never become minorities in Europe, that’s outrageous and ridiculous and far-fetched and anyway what’s wrong with such an outcome? There shouldn’t be a problem with that. To object would be racist. Actually, it would be great – just think of the diversity! I want it to happen. It is happening, and we should welcome it. It’s everything we have ever desired. And remember, it’s outrageous and ridiculous and far-fetched to suggest it’s happening.

* The Jewish Daily Forward is also a beloved Alt-Right site.

* If you say pseudo-scientific one more time they’re going to shut down the research into Jewish genetic diseases.

* Is it a conspiracy theory to suggest that Jews are overrepresented in positions of power and put their ethnic interests before those of others?

For example, Jewish organizations — and indeed, many Jewish individuals as well — overwhelmingly push for diversity in the West but oppose it in Israel.

Also, is it a conspiracy theory to suggest that Jewish intellectuals have had a significant effect on society? As an ethnic European in the West, many of these intellectuals have advocated things contrary to our interests. The Frankfurt School is a good example.

* Why is it acceptable for Jews to have an ethno-state and advocate for their ethnic interests but not white people?

* Whites have never been threatened with extermination for being white, Jews have suffered attempts to exterminate them for being Jews–that’s the difference.

* Oy Vey whites looking out for their own interests. Shut these sites down.

The Jewish Newspaper Forward Has Run About A Dozen Articles On The Alt Right In The Past Month

Here are some comments on its website for an article on Paul Gottfried:

* I suspect the message of the Alt Right upsets a lot of people because it invokes what terror management theorists in psychology call “mortality salience,” namely, reminders of vulnerability, failure and death. Look up terror management theory and see the experimental support it has – you will see human behavior in a new light once you absorb the theory’s implications.

Specifically, people have finally started to wake up from the make-believe world of the Radical Enlightenment in the 18th Century. This sweeping social experiment – based on pseudoscience about equality, democracy, feminism, human fungibility, the mind as a blank slate, cosmopolitanism, borderlessness, mass immigration, miscegenation and trying to erase the biological distinctions between men and women – has come crashing down around us because it conflicts with man’s nature. “Social progress” can never happen because human nature doesn’t change; and “social justice” remains forever beyond reach because society’s losers, misfits, kooks, weaklings, defectives, scolds, utopians and degenerates have conflicting grievances that they can’t reconcile, especially when it comes to dividing up the shrinking pile of spoils produced by generations of white people’s labor.

In other words, the Alt Right has rediscovered and articulated for our generation the essential tragedy of man’s life on earth. It has become the voice of wisdom and maturity in a world full of delusions that we can no longer sustain. I have my doubts as to whether Donald Trump has really stumbled across this perspective, much less that he knows what to do with it. But thanks to the inadvertent attention he has drawn to the Alt Right, American politics in the 2020’s could look radically different from the nonsense that has damaged the United States for the past few generations.
