A Line Hot Girls Love

From the Chateau:

Here’s a line I sometimes toss out to faux bitchy girls glibly assuming I’m just another chode waiting to polish their pussy pedestals. As far as asshole lines go, this one is lethally penetrative of girly egg-bunkering egos.

The line is most effectively deployed on girls who are playing that “I’m too good for you” flirty game that is common among many prime hotties. You know the type. She’ll tell you, in so many words, how much better she is than you, or how you fall short of her standards in this or that way. It’s irritating, but also promising, because girls generally don’t bother with these sorts of vanity games unless they feel a pulse of attraction.

GIRL: “We could never date. You’re too short/tall/old/young/into your job/full of yourself/etc.”

THE COCKENING: “Great. You sound annoying anyway.”

DROP THE SHRIKE. I’ve yet to have negative blowback from saying this to girls. Sure, there will follow a tumult of indignation — all of it phony — but eyes will brighten, cheeks will redden, and muffs will moisten. HOW COULD YOU! HOW DARE YOU! WHAT’S YOUR DEAL?! And just like that I’ve trespassed her hindbrain, and she’ll start rationalizing reasons why we, in fact, could date.

One reason I rarely get negative reactions to this supreme gentleman’s riposte is because I tailor my asshole game to my recipient. Super-sensitive, shy girls a tit size short of an HB8 can be genuinely hurt by asshole-y lines like this one, taking it to heart that they really might be annoying, and this bad feeling will cause them to emotionally turtle or storm off in a huff and a bird flip.

Asshole Game is powerful, which means it must be wielded with skill. You could carpet bomb assholery and get laid more than slouching toward incel as a perpetual niceguy, but you’ll also lose a fair number of the less bitchy/less haughty/less egotistic girls who don’t have strong urges to succumb to a total dick.

Less egotistic? Yes! Contrary popular perception, girls with high self-esteem enjoy the charms of the asshole more than do lower self-esteem girls. A girl who thinks highly of herself — i.e., she thinks highly of her face and body as commodities to sell herself on the open sexual market — prefers more challenging men as potential partners in grime. On the other end of the female spectrum, less solipsistic or extroverted girls are thinner-skinned and quicker to bruise from backhanded compliments (tending to focus on the backhanded part) and reckless assholery. They can be coaxed into chasing assholes, especially if they’re hotter than average, but will weary sooner of commitment-averse, ZFG jerkboys than will stronger, more self-confident women.

The Age Of Treason And Open Borders

From the Chateau:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

Article III, Section 3, Clause 1
U.S. Constitution

Recently, the news reports that Tony Blair, the former UK Prime Minister who with George Bush and his neocon masters lied us into the Iraq War, had conspired with government officials to open Britain’s borders to mass immigration and keep it hidden from the public.

Tony Blair is accused of ‘presiding over a silent conspiracy’ that allowed two million migrants to enter Britain during his decade in power.

This is genocide by population displacement and dispossession. It’s a clear betrayal of duty to one’s nation and its people.

A new biography of the former prime minister by the celebrated investigative journalist Tom Bower claims Mr Blair ordered his Labour government not to publicly discuss the issue.

The book Broken Vows: Tony Blair – the Tragedy of Power alleges that the minister in charge of border control ruled against deporting failed asylum seekers because it would be too “emotional” to do so.

The feminizing of the West is its great undoing.

Mr Bower interviewed more than 200 senior civil servants, ex-ministers and insiders and claims Mr Blair told officials and ministers: “Don’t mention the advantages of immigration in public because they won’t even want that.”

The book claims that Mr Blair and his Government ‘cynically repackaged’ asylum seekers as economic migrants to the benefit of 350,000 asylum seekers.

It alleges that Barbara Roche, the immigration minister between 1999 and 2001, told a senior immigration official: “Asylum seekers should be allowed to stay in Britain. Removal takes too long and it’s emotional.”

Faces of evil:

barbararoche

The UN Convention on the Crime of Genocide lists under Article II the acts that would qualify as genocide.

Article II: In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

A conspiracy by Western governments and their leaders to silently and extra-judicially permit the migration of millions of foreigners into their nations is an act of genocide as described in UN Article II, subcategories (b), (c) and possibly (a) and (d) as well.

Certainly, millions of migrants bring cultural, if not physical, destruction of the host nation. Mass invasion causes mental harm and societal fracturing. It can also be argued that mass invasion depresses the birth rate of natives, through economic hardship and demographic churn.

Even (a) is a legitimate allegation against the anti-White oligarchs and globalists. Muslims commit terrorist atrocities at a rate 4,000% higher than their total population ratio. Importing more of them increases the risk of killings perpetrated against members of the native people.

The Chateau proprietors assert in these esteemed pages that Tony Blair, Barbara Roche, Nicolas Sarkozy, George W Bush, Angela Merkel, Marco Rubio, and Downlow Soetoro have committed, and presently commit, acts of genocide against the native White people of the United States, France, Germany, and United Kingdom, and are condemned for their treason against their countries.

My Facebook Memories On April 4

* A friend just walked up to me. “You’ll relate to this,” he said.
“Is it about helping people?” I replied.

* My friend says about my invite a goy to shul initiative: “You might want to steer clear of taking him to any of the more Orthodox synagogues for the next couple of weeks until Pesach is over. You wouldn’t want him to see the Rabbi draining the blood of the kidnapped goyishe baby for the Matzoh. He might misconstrue it.”

* I feel I must cleanse my soul by watching some NBA basketball and listening to some JayZee.

* NYT: The more attuned to others you become, the healthier you become, and vice versa. This mutual influence also explains how a lack of positive social contact diminishes people. Your heart’s capacity for friendship also obeys the biological law of “use it or lose it.”

* About half the crowd at my 12-step meetings go on their phones during the meeting.

* I was speaking at this Persian shul. The rabbi got up to introduce me and to implore his congregants not to talk during my speech. He tells them in Farsi, “This guy has seen it all and probably done it all.” Yeah, but I never got a disease.

* I’m reading this review of West Australia’s barrier reef and picturing what it would be like to take this trip as a couple and my fear of abandonment is rising up and what if she emotionally abandons me on the trip? What if she’s angry and contemptuous? What if she hooks up with someone else? And I’m out there in the middle of nowhere confronting my fears without FB access.

* Roger Ebert and I were such close friends over FB. He gave me the courage to pursue my dreams.

* Lewis Fein: “Reviewing Roger Ebert’s memorial service. While I found parts of it to be derivative, the homage to Bergman was touching. I give it two thumbs up.”

* I’m noticing folks going through the Orthodox conversion to Judaism not only throwing away all their pants and only wearing skirts, covering up tattoos, dropping off Facebook, and severely reducing their social life so as to minimize potential trouble. They would also do well to quit drinking because that lays the groundwork for trouble. One Orthodox rabbi I heard about kicked a guy out of his conversion program because he was tired of hearing this potential Jew complaining about the lack of religious observance by born Jews.

* My Orthodox friend says the Orthodox fear their wives more. I think there’s something to that.

* I’ve never had a relationship longer than a year. I’m a serial monogamist, but more than that, I’m a serial enthusiast. I used to think that when I was a kid that becoming a Christian missionary would transform my life. Then it was dreams of political power. Then it was running marathons. Then it was the practice of journalism. But my fear of abandonment? Unchanged.
My therapist asks me, “Do you think your Alexander Technique, your Kundalini Yoga, your conversion to Orthodox Judaism are all attempts to push away your underlying depression?” Yes! You can’t trust anything I say. I get enthusiastic about things, think they will transform my life, and then a girl doesn’t return my phone call and I’m right back to that needy three year old boy.

When The Muslim Does The Bag Check

Goy: “Flew to… this weekend and was pulled out of line for a “bag check” by a Muslim woman wearing a black hijab–she rummaged through my things for a minute, then “let me go.” Even aside from the obvious absurdity of the scene — Muslim checking blue-eyed guy for terrorist apparatus — are we supposed to believe that she will call the cops or FBI when the local gang from her mosque tells her to let one of the brothers slide unchecked? Come on.”

“It felt like SUCH a… planned charade. How can we humiliate Americans? Blow up their symbolic buildings, then for a decade, immigrate in large numbers, while they scramble to build new security infrastructure cuz they’re scared of us… and then get hired in those security jobs! Ha!”

What If The West Got Angry At Islam?

Greg Cochran writes: Now and then I contemplate the possible outcomes if the United States got really, really angry, say at jihadists, if they went too far and struck a nerve. Crazed fury. Jihadists seem to think that enraging the western powers is strategically sensible, but they might be wrong. I’m not talking about little things like the invasion of Iraq or Afghanistan: no, I mean really angry. You should picture Uncle Sam turning green and bursting out of his Uncle Sam suit (fortunately he wears highly stretchable purple undies).

There’s the old reliable, nuclear weapons. There wouldn’t be a lot left of the Arab world, especially when you consider little tactical enhancers like blowing up the Aswan Dam, or nuking a nuclear reactor. You could simply drop enough medium-life-time radioactive dust to make a region uninhabitable for months, or years, or decades, making the Haj pretty difficult.

Even semi-conventional war could become lot more intense: we haven’t done fire raids lately, but we still can (B52s can carry a huge payload). It’s hard to make laser weapons work for most purposes (atmospheric transmission) – but it’s easy to make ones that blind. We’re working on smart bullets: right now you have to fire thousands per hit, but that’s going to change.

Nerve gas? effective.

Germ warfare? Amazing things are now possible: we could probably tailor agents to hit particular ethnic groups (there is always leakage: I’m not saying that we wouldn’t get our hair mussed.) . They could kill – swiftly, or agonizingly slowly, They might trigger Creuzfeldt-Jakob disease: not just for cannibals, anymore. You might see agents that cause insanity, or sterility, or damn-foolishness(hmmmmm). Once CRISPR goes to war, you would see agents that cause germ-line genetic changes – nasty changes with built-in genetic drive that spread to the whole population.

COMMENTS:

* My personal favorite: An ethnically targeted slow virus that reduces fertility to well below replacement levels. An undetectable form of eugenics that could greatly speed up human evolution via cultural selection.

* George Church of Harvard has talked about how CRISPR can just as easily be turned on as turned off. Now let’s just say for the sake of argument that we don’t kill the rabble rousers, but just make them infertile to the point that no matter how much effort they put into it they will still reproduce below replacement levels until that form of genetically engineering is disabled. Killing people seems so old fashioned, just prevent new ones and in a few generation everyone will have elbow room.

* Greg Cochran: The urge to totally destroy a foe is sometimes the result of the foe’s action. Other times, peoples or countries are just that way, without much provocation or even an obvious reason. Practical considerations and the passage of time often temper this urge – also, decision makers aren’t just expressions of the popular will. Or even close to it, a lot of the time.

Border wars (meta-ethnic conflicts) can leave a lot of frontiersmen furious, after losing their families for example. The Puritans were furious in and after King Philip’s War. After Metacomet’s death, his wife and nine-year-old son were captured and sold as slaves in Bermuda. His head was mounted on a pike at the entrance to Fort Plymouth, where it remained for more than twenty years. His body was cut into quarters and hung in a tree.

Sometimes this was an individual thing. Jeremiah Johnson, also known as Liver-eating Johnson.

The Nazis were utterly murderous against the Jews, and in eastern Europe against everybody. They contemplating exterminating all the Slavs, and certainly killed millions – in ways that made them more likely to lose the war. And I sure can’t think of what exactly the Jews, the Poles or the Russians had done to provoke them. Similarly, the Japanese acted like a plague of locusts most everywhere they went – but I don’t think you can call it revenge. Revenge for what?

The Russians were mad as hell at the Germans after WWII, but they didn’t treat the Germans anywhere near as badly as the German had treated them. Partly this was due to reasons of state: Stalin thought that the East Germans would be useful (alive). For example, 57% of Russians held as POWs by the Germans died, while about 15% of German POWs held by the Russians died.

The Mongols started out exterminating: hardly anyone seems to have survived in the Kin empire. Then Yelü Chucai sold them on taxation instead of extermination – but they would still exterminate when a city rebelled, or simply because they were in the mood, as with Baghdad in 1258.

In WWII people in the US hated the Japanese a lot, and that hatred grew with war experience. Rape, torture, murder, lethal medical experimentation, cannibalism – not the way to make friends and influence people.

Halsey said that when he was done, Japanese would only be spoken in Hell. We sank their navy and merchant fleets (bringing them to the edge of starvation): burnt their cities to the ground, nuked them. But we took their surrender, when they finally gave it, and treated them pretty decently, much to their surprise. Not everyone with personal experience agreed with that. My father met a Canadian (originally British, in the RAF) who had been captured at Singapore and spent years in Japanese POW camps. He was at Nagasaki when we nuked it, and he enjoyed it. What he couldn’t understand was why we ever stopped dropping atomic bombs on Japan.

* No, the appropriate defense is actually thousands of miles of oceans, the determination to stop dysgenic & maladaptive immigration, and the understanding that almost all foreign intervention works against the best interests of the West and particularly against the best interests of American citizens.

* The reason is the dominance of the universalist dogma, which (given its current dysgenic repercussions) is a long-term evolutionary dead-end branch of certain proselytizing religions.

Religions/dogmas, of course, don’t have to be all like that. In fact, per Turchin, the Axial Age produced a stage of socio-cultural evolution that made large-scale societies (ergo, today’s nations via yesterday’s empires) possible in the first place. It is possible to conceive of dogmas that are pro population growth, technical progress, and are also externally expansionary/warlike. In fact there already are. Those can make living in such a world into a very interesting time.

Actually, IMO, what we are witnessing today with regard to social frameworks, in the context of evolution, is kind of like what life was before DNA: Very fast RNA-based evolution, requiring high-reproduction and horizontal gene transfer to overcome high mutation rate. Before DNA, lots of low-level experimentation and dead-ends, and very hard to build complicated structures, due to error-sensitivity of the latter. In society-speak, this translates to lots of mini-dogmas/experimentation (philosophies, cultists, ideologies, etc. etc) which constantly cross-pollinate each other, but individuals that practice them stay more or less atomized, and their beliefs and practice don’t pass on very well to their offspring.

With the emergence of DNA (and things around it like better protection of the nucleus etc), mutation rate slows down, the errors that go through are better corrected for, allowing the code to get passed down much more reliably. Much less low-level experimentation, of course, but it’s offset by higher-level experimentation, as the cells can now form colonies and, eventually after overcoming Weismann barrier, even whole organisms (via group selection). Horizontal gene transfer is reduced, if not altogether eliminated, but it’s offset by, again, stability of the overall code, and more reliance on occasional beneficial mutations and reliance on higher-order selection. In society-speak, this translates to religions (nay, whole frameworks) that are not merely orthodoxies, but orthopraxies. Change is much slower, there is, in fact, resistance to change, but selection operates on higher-level, because individuals are no longer individuals, but part of the collective, of a mega-family/mega-tribe that live and breath by a Law and principles that are not only not divorced from the Divine (whatever abstract or non-abstract way it can be thought of, with the former being a better choice), but in fact, are considered to be its emanations. It is, IMO, how survivable nations ought to operate.

It is possible to imagine that a lot of such societies may converge on very similar concepts and principles. After all, evolution has a lot of examples of convergence and even re-invention.

The Latest In Brooklyn Strictness

Chaim Amalek writes: “The latest in Brooklyn Chumras concerns how vigilant one should be when searching for insects. One Mashgiach began by inspecting all produce with an optical microscope. Then came along another who uses an electron microscope. And not to be outdone, the latest Chumra is to subject all food to an MRI to make sure that no insect has burrowed its way into a piece of fruit or meat. They say it will bring Moshiach closer to us.”

Henry Harpending RIP

I asked Dr. Harpending for an interview in May of 2014 and he graciously replied: “Would ordinarily like to do this very much. I had a CVA two weeks ago, recovering, but I am still pretty goofy with impaired reading and bad writing. EG I have to proof this note twice. You should ask Greg Cochran to have a shot at it.”

I did try but I didn’t get a reply from Dr. Cochran.

I have asked thousands of people for an interview over my blogging career, and not a few of them have been close to the end, including TV producer Edgar Scherick, who I spoke to half a dozen times while he was on his death bed.

For some people, such as Edgar, giving an interview was exactly what he wanted to do with his final days, otherwise he would be very lonely. For those with close relationships, however, it is usually the last thing they want to do.

I remember pushing author Roy Aarons for an interview via email in 2004 when he revealed he was dying and in South Africa and so I left him alone.

According to Wikipedia: On November 28, 2004, Leroy Aarons died of cancer. He was 70 years old.

At the time of his death, Aarons was working on another play, Night Nurse, about South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, for which he and his life partner of 24 years, Joshua Boneh, [2] had spent a month in South Africa doing research earlier that year.

COMMENTS TO STEVE SAILER ABOUT HENRY HARPENDING:

* ‘Henry smoked.’ Oh the horror.

I have noticed that doctors are among the worst for this variant of Last Man mentality. As a young doctor, I certainly was. It blends genuine scientific interest in the root causes of illness and death with the ego-preserving need to maintain a professional distance from one’s personal death – the young are always immortal, and none more immortal than young doctors.

Later, I realized people come as a package. The same drives that made Henry take to Africa, made him hunt that buffalo, were part of why he smoked.

Would an artist rather be an alcoholic Hemingway or a nebbish? Who wouldn’t trade tobacco to be the kind of man who could co-author a book as important as The Ten Thousand Year Explosion?

Who Is Steve Sailer?

From Metapedia:

Steven Ernest Sailer is an American conservative journalist and movie critic for The American Conservative, a blogger, a Takimag and VDARE.com columnist, and a former correspondent for UPI. He writes for VDARE about race relations, gender issues, politics, immigration, IQ, genetics, movies, and sports.

Contents

Personal life

Sailer grew up in Studio City, Los Angeles.[1] As a child, Sailer appeared alongside four other grade school students on the “Kids Say the Darndest Things” segment of Art Linkletter’s House Party. He majored in economics, history, and management at Rice University (BA, 1980).[2] He earned an MBA from UCLA in 1982 with two concentrations: Finance and Marketing.[3] In 1982 he moved from Los Angeles to Chicago,[4] and from then until 1985 he managed BehaviorScan test markets for Information Resources Inc.[5] In 1996, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and in February 1997, he was treated with Rituxan. (Sailer believes that he was the first person in the world with intermediate grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma to be treated with that medication.) He has been in remission since those treatments.[6] He became a full-time journalist in 2000[7] and left Chicago for California.[8]

Writing career

From 1994 to 1998, Sailer worked as a columnist for the conservative magazine National Review (and has since published in it[9]).

In August 1999, he debated Steve Levitt at Slate.com, calling into question Levitt’s hypothesis, which would appear in the 2005 book Freakonomics, that legalized abortion in America reduced crime.[10]

Sailer, along with Charles Murray and John McGinnis, was described as an “evolutionary conservative” in a 1999 National Review cover story by John O’Sullivan.[11] Sailer’s work frequently appears at Taki’s Magazine[12] and Alternative Right,[13] while Sailer’s analyses have been cited by newspapers such as The Washington Times,[14] The New York Times,[15] the San Francisco Chronicle and The Times of London.[16][17] He has been featured as a guest on The Political Cesspool.[18]

Sailer’s January 2003 article “Cousin Marriage Conundrum”, published in The American Conservative, argued that nationbuilding in Iraq would likely fail because of the high degree of consanguinity among Iraqis due to the common practice of cousin marriage. This article has been republished in The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2004, and in One World, Many Cultures.

After the 2004 US election, Sailer discovered a very strong correlation between voting patterns and fertility rates. He described the fertility link in an article in The American Conservative: “Among the 50 states plus Washington, D.C., white total fertility correlates at a remarkably strong 0.86 level with Bush’s percentage of the 2004 vote. (In 2000, the correlation was 0.85.)”[19] Writing in the New York Times, pundit David Brooks referred to this article as showing the “surprising political correlations” of what he dubbed “natalism”.[20] Sailer later discovered a slightly stronger correlation between marriage rates and voting, and dubbed his theory of modern American voting as “Affordable Family Formation”: “a state’s voting proclivities are now dominated by the relative presence or absence of affordable family formation.”[21] The correlation between home prices, marriage rates, and voting was verified by George Hawley at the University of Houston, using county-level data for the 2000 election.[22]

In 2008, Sailer published his only book, America’s Half-Blood Prince, an analysis of Barack Obama based on his memoir Dreams From My Father.

Sailer is the founder of an online discussion forum called Human Biodiversity Discussion Group, whose members he has described as “top scientists and public intellectuals”.[23][24]

Views and criticism

Sailer cites studies that say, on average, blacks and Mexicans in America have lower IQs than whites,[25][26] and that Ashkenazi Jews and Northeast Asians have higher IQs than whites.[27][28] He says that prosperity helped blacks close the IQ gap.[citation needed] He suggests that a problem with mass immigration of non-white Mestizo Mexicans into America is that native-born whites in the US will become a master caste to a non-white servant caste.[29] He also considers that “for at least some purposes – race actually is a highly useful and reasonable classification,”[30] such as providing a very rough rule-of-thumb for the fact that various population groups may inherit differences in body chemistry that affect how the body uses certain pharmaceutical products, [31] for “finessing” Affirmative Action when that’s economically convenient, [32] and for political gerrymandering. Sailer has also argued that Hispanic immigration is “recreating the racial hierarchy of Mexico” in California:[33]

While upwardly mobile Mexican-Americans marry blonde Anglos, downwardly mobile white men wed Mexicans. Now, there is no doubt plenty to be said for getting hitched to a Mexican lady. They probably tend to make better mothers, homemakers, and cooks than the leggy blonde careerists who, however, are so much more in demand in Southern California. But sadly, there is a big social cost to Anglo-Hispanic marriages – which raises severe doubts about America’s ability to assimilate Latino immigrants. As pro-immigration/pro-assimilation researcher Gregory Rodriguez admits, “Surprisingly, in most homes headed by an Anglo/Latino couple, Spanish becomes the household language.”

Thus, those L.A. blue-collar whites who don’t flee to Utah will tend to assimilate genetically and culturally into Latino culture.”

During the United States presidential election, 2004, Sailer estimated that based on the intelligence tests from military records of candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry, Bush probably had a higher IQ by about 4 IQ points.[15][34] In a report on the findings for The New York Times, journalist John Tierney called Sailer “a veteran student of presidential IQ’s”, and cited the judgement of Professor Linda Gottfredson, an IQ expert at the University of Delaware, that Sailer’s study was a “creditable analysis”.[15]

Sailer’s article on Hurricane Katrina was followed by accusations of racism from left-wing organizations Media Matters for America and the Southern Poverty Law Center.[35][36] In reference to the New Orleans slogan “let the good times roll”, Sailer commented:

What you won’t hear, except from me, is that “Let the good times roll” is an especially risky message for African-Americans. The plain fact is that they tend to possess poorer native judgment than members of better-educated groups. Thus they need stricter moral guidance from society.[37]

Conservative columnist John Podhoretz, responded in the National Review Online blog by calling Sailer’s statement “shockingly racist and paternalistic” as well as “disgusting”.[38]

Sailer describes his personal ideology as “Citizenism”, which he explains as:

I believe Americans should be biased in favor of the welfare of our current fellow citizens over that of the six billion foreigners… A huge number of Americans grasp that we are lucky to be American citizens and they want to pass on their good fortune to their posterity undiluted.[39]

He views this as an antithesis of racism, and he argues that African-Americans, Jewish-Americans, European-Americans, and other groups can rally behind this. He has also stated that “White Nationalism is worse than a crime, it’s a mistake” and argued that the ideology, if widely adopted, would actually hurt American whites rather than help them.[39]

JPOD: The Most Disgusting Sentence Yet Written About Katrina…

John Podhoretz writes Sept. 5, 2005: …may not be Kanye West’s denunciation of Bush after all. I think West is given a run for his money by by Steve Sailer’s shockingly racist and paternalistic riff off of the New Orleans slogan “Let the good times roll,” on the website vdare.com. “What you won’t hear, except from me, is that ‘Let the good times roll’ is an especially risky message for African-Americans. The plain fact is that they tend to possess poorer native judgment than members of better-educated groups. Thus they need stricter moral guidance from society.” Nobody with the unspeakable gall and tastelessness to write such sentences should be suggesting that any other person on earth requires “stricter moral guidance.”

John Podhoretz & Regression To The Mean

Steve Sailer writes for VDARE July 17, 2005:

I recently pointed out that even though actress Jodie Foster reportedly had carefully searched out a sperm donor with an IQ of 160 to father her two children, the expected boost in her kids` IQ over what she would have gotten from a typical 100 IQ donor would fall in a range centering around merely 12 points. This is due to a pervasive phenomenon that its discoverer, Sir Francis Galton, called “regression toward mediocrity” and we now call “regression toward the mean.”

Interacting with John Podhoretz, the son of long-time Commentary editor Norman Podhoretz, inevitably calls to mind Galton`s great discovery.

Last week, I noted on my iSteve.com blog some of the younger Podhoretz`s bumptious comments on National Review Online`s “Corner” free-for-all. In reaction to John Derbyshire`s concerns about the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment granting automatic birthright citizenship to the children of illegal aliens, Podhoretz blustered:

“Sorry, pal. You`re born here, you`re a citizen here. Period. That`s how it works, and thank God for it, otherwise a great deal of the advances made in the 20th century by immigrant children to the United States would not have come to pass…”

I suggested this “birthright pundit” might extend his logic like this:

“Sorry, pal. If you`re born a Podhoretz, you get to make a living offering your opinions, no matter how big of a jerk and fool you are. Period. That`s how it works, and thank God for it, otherwise a great deal of the money made in the 21st century by Podhoretz relatives would not have come to pass.”

Later, out of the blue, I received an email from Podhoretz reading:

“Please keep attacking me. It`s how I know I`m not a bigoted, racist scum.”

Peter Brimelow has observed how often a “racist” turns out to be someone who is winning an argument with a liberal. But with a neocon of Podhoretz the Lesser`s quality, well, you don`t even have to be arguing with him to be “a bigoted, racist scum.” I`m not exactly sure what “a … scum” is, but, clearly, Pod No Like. I replied:

“Such wit, such eloquence, such insight!”

He fired back:

“If you think I lack them, I imagine you think I have too much melanin in my skin.”

Hoo-boy! You got me there!

Thoroughly enjoying shooting fish in a barrel, I answered:

“How do you come up with such devastating comebacks? Do you keep a half-dozen Nobel Laureates on staff, or do you, somehow, just make these up all by yourself?”

While Podhoretz Minor might be an extreme example, he reflects the intellectual decline of neoconservatism from the first generation to the second. While the formidable father has often provoked fury, the son has mostly elicited laughter. Hanna Rosin reported in 1998:

… around the Washington Times offices, the [Podhoretz] column was often read out loud in Podhoretz`s absence, for comic value, in a ritual famously called Podenfreude ….

Norman Podhoretz was somewhat anomalous among the first generation of neoconservatives, such as Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Nathan Glazer, and James Q. Wilson, because he was trained as a literary critic rather than a social scientist. But like them, and like later neoconservatives such as Charles Murray, he had some audacious things to say about race.

In his 1963 essay in Commentary, “My Negro Problem—And Ours,” the elder Podhoretz wrote:

“[F]or a long time I was puzzled to think that Jews were supposed to be rich when the only Jews I knew were poor, and that Negroes were supposed to be persecuted when it was the Negroes who were doing the only persecuting I knew about—and doing it, moreover, to me… [It] was the whites, the Italians and Jews, who feared the Negroes, not the other way around.”

Thirty years later, the elder Podhoretz reflected on the controversy his article about “black thuggery” had caused:

“In 1963 those descriptions were very shocking to most white liberals. In their eyes Negroes were all long-suffering and noble victims of the kind who had become familiar through the struggles of the civil rights movement in the South, the “heroic period” of the movement, as one if its most heroic leaders, Bayard Rustin, called it. While none of my white critics went so far as to deny the truthfulness of the stories I told, they themselves could hardly imagine being afraid of Negroes (how could they when the only Negroes most of them knew personally were maids and cleaning women?). In any case they very much disliked the emphasis I placed on black thuggery and aggression.

“Today, when black-on-white violence is much more common than it was then, many white readers could easily top those stories with worse. And yet even today few of them would be willing to speak truthfully in public about their entirely rational fear of black violence and black crime. Telling the truth about blacks remains dangerous to one`s reputation: to use that now famous phrase I once appropriated from D.H. Lawrence in talking about ambition, the fear of blacks has become the dirty little secret of our political culture. And since a dirty little secret breeds hypocrisy and cant in those who harbor it, I suppose it can still be said that most whites are sick and twisted in their feelings about blacks, albeit in a very different sense that they were in 1963.”

Time for John Podhoretz to email to his father accusing him of being “a bigoted, racist scum.”!
