REPORT: Man Shot After Confronting Man Robbing Woman

New Orleans, LA – A man shot in the abdomen attempting to thwart an armed robbery in the Lower Garden District has been identified as a Tulane medical student.Just before 4 a.m. the 25-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at the intersection of Magazine Street and St. Mary Street.

According to a witness at the scene, a woman was being robbed on St. Mary Street at the corner on Magazine Street. The man saw the robbery taking place and stepped up to intervene. He was then shot by the assailant.

A nearby business captured the entire incident on camera. A hooded man in the video is seen dragging a woman down the street towards his vehicle. She falls down and he rips her purse away. When the Good Samaritan pulled up in his vehicle, he got out to help the woman. New
Orleans police said the perpetrator demanded money from the man. When the man explained he did not have any money, the gunman became enraged. That is when the gunman pulls out a semi-automatic weapon and shoots the victim. While the victim is lying on the ground, the perpetrator points the gun at his head and appears to pull the trigger, but the gun does
not fire. The video shows the gunman try to shoot the victim again, before getting in his grey or silver SUV and leaving the scene. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is currently in guarded condition.
