Ten Jewish groups urge Congress to allow Syrian refugees into U.S.

JTA: While Congress members consider not admitting Syrian refugees after the Paris attacks, Jewish groups argue that ‘turning our back on refugees would be to betray our nation’s core values.’

Ten Jewish groups have sent a letter to Congress members on Tuesday urging them not to roll back plans to accept Syrian refugees into the United States.
“To turn our back on refugees would be to betray our nation’s core values,” said the letter, as Congress began considering measures that would put a stop to the Obama administration’s plans to bring in 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year.
“It would send a demoralizing and dangerous message to the world that the United States makes judgments about people based on the country they come from and their religion.”
Among the Jewish groups signing are the Union for Reform Judaism, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee.

COMMENTS AT HAARETZ:

* And how many refugees is Israel taking in, you know to show how good their relationship is with Syria?

* Who exactly appointed these groups as representatives of the Jewish people? Being far wealthier and often segregated from most Americans they don’t face the problems mass immigration of all kinds imposes on the general public. Let these Ten groups be legally and financially liable for the Muslims they don’t live with. If they commit crimes, terrorism, end up on welfare, etc. make these groups liable for the full costs.

* How noble of my fellow Reform Jews to insist that…..
the US open the flood gates to Islamic Syrian refugees and not demand that Israel and the Persian Gulf oil states absorb the lion’s share of these wretches. Not in my name they don’t.
