The community leaders accused of anti-Semitism turn out to be mostly liberal Jews who opposed the machinations of Satmar Hassidic real estate developers from Kiryas Joel to take over their town…
So this appears to be largely a power, money, real estate, tax, and welfare struggle between ultra-orthodox Jews and a local community led in large part by normal American Jews. You might think that the New York Times would instinctively identify with the educated liberal Jews against the smears of the reactionary Jews.
But that underestimates the media’s insatiable longing for allegations of anti-Semitism, no matter how wacky. The hunger for hate is strong these days.
Comments to Steve Sailer:
* 19 Dead = $600,000 divided among many
0 Dead, 0 injured, 0 anti-Semitism = $4,480,000 split 5 ways
* $0.6 million for 19 firefighters burned to death, versus $4.48 million for five people with hurt feelings.
* In the first case, thirteen men died, most likely unnecessarily. In the second, five kids were possibly made uncomfortable, though given the political context the whole thing seems suspect. But the settlement in the latter case was eight times the former in aggregate (and eighty times on a per beneficiary level.) This seems a bit nuts, but the media coordination point of the Times puts it forward uncritically, because of the hunger for hate.
* Jewish feelings matter more than gentile lives.
* If a Jewish guy fires a Jewish guy, antisemitism.
If a Jewish guy insults a Jewish guy, antisemitism.
* I think both lawsuits are frivolous.
If a person is a firefighter and dies on duty fighting a fire, then the compensation should be determined by the institution’s normal policy.
If a soldier dies in a friendly-fire mistake, then his family does not get to sue the US Army for extra compensation. The family gets only the standard insurance benefit.
Professionals get killed while fighting fires or wars — often because of mistakes. These deaths are tragic, but they are normal conditions of such professions. The courts should not involve themselves in such cases. The institutions themselves should determine the compensation policies.
If you sign up to be a firefighter, then you might die horribly, because of someone’s mistake, while fighting a fire. The insurance will pay your family X dollars. That’s the deal. Take it or leave it.
Recognizing and correcting problems that cause casualties should be left to the professionals in the organization. We don’t need courts telling firefighters and soldiers how to do their jobs.
* Arizona is 57% white, 30% latino.
It appears the firefighters were 100% white, and 100% male. Worse than silicon valley. Why no “too white and male” articles and disparate impact lawsuits?
* Complain all you want about the ultra-Orthodox Jews but they’re one of only 3 groups of Whites in the world having huge amounts of kids (the others being polygamous Mormons and ‘quiverful’ Christians).
* The comparison between the paltriness of the firefighters’ settlement and the relative generosity of the fake anti-Semitism is one of those things that Steve uses to Jewbait but on analysis it doesn’t stand up. You have to drill down into the specifics of the decisions. Not that I support the Satmars, I don’t, but comparing the two is bogus.
Another thing, Steve’s love for “normal American Jews” depends on context. “Normal American Jews” are also — in his world — at the forefront of all the liberal stuff that Steve thinks is killing America. I think it’s really a case of super-assimilation. “Normal American Jews” have assimilated to Yankee Protestant mores, and in typical Jewish fashion (see Moses Mendelsohn) out-Prot the originals. But I know that’s not a popular opinion here. “Normal American Jews” w/a TFR of 1.43 per woman will soon be a thing of the past.
Orthodox Jews whatever their faults are a great example of super-affordable family formation. The rest of us should take a look at what they are doing right, as in the case of Hispanics who have very low infant mortality rates, and see if one can replicate their results in a normal population.
* This guy [John Oliver] is truly a screaming example of utterly predictable corporate comedy. He’s way worse than Bob Hope in that regard. Occasionally Jon Stewart goes off the rez, but this guy can be counted on to stroke the collective woody of all that is prog & good. At least Stewart is American. But what excuse do we have to importing a Brit to be a corporate American prog comedian? It’s not as if Americans won’t do that job.
