The Australian Moment: How We Were Made For These Times

I’m reading this 2012 book and find this brilliant analysis on page two: “China, Japan and Germany…are monocultures condemned to premature ageing because they don’t have the national confidence for mass immigration.”

Thank God Australia and America have the national confidence for mass immigration!

From page 88:

[Former Australian Labor Prime Minister] Paul Keating says [former Australian Labor PM Gough] Whitlam helped Australia earn the world’s respect: “Australia came very near the marginalization that South Africa experienced over racial discrimination, and our salvation from that occurred through and with Gough Whitlam.”

Here’s a great moment from 1981 that exemplifies Australian self-confidence!

How come Japan never had to become less Japanese to have international respect by importing millions of non-Japanese?
