NPR: U.Va. Reinstates Fraternity Accused In ‘Rolling Stone’ Rape Story

From comments to Steve Sailer:

* I don’t think we can say for sure whether or not Ukrainian boys were ritually sacrificed so that their blood could be baked into Passover matza. New evidence still might be discovered.

Anyway, the local Jewish villagers did need to reform, and so the pogroms did teach them good lessons.

* NPR is such a soothing cocoon of liberal pieties. Everything is carefully shaped to not challenge or discomfit the intellectually upper-crust liberal. The discerning liberal can count on every story to be exactly as expected.

It is interesting to notice how NPR has evolved over time. It’s tone has become quite elderly. Much less righteous indignation calling us to storm the ramparts. Much more soothing and pre-chewed morsels so as not to tax our digestion too much. It has become a combination of a liberal country-club and a liberal retirement home.

* They are just stalling for time at this point (and shamelessly trying to consolidate gains while some shred of ambiguity remains). Eventually, the police and CJR are both (no matter how biased they are) going to have to fess up that there is not one bit of credible evidence that any assault whatsoever occurred.

The frats are wimps for agreeing to go along with these “reforms” in response to a hoax during this window, but the procedures agreed to are largely window dressing anyway and do not fundamentally alter their right to serve alcohol. It’s really amazing though how “feminists” haven’t really thought of anything new since Carrie Nation. After the end of nationwide Prohibition, in some states there were rearguard actions where various dumb restrictions were imposed on alcohol sales – you had to belong to a “club” or could not sell mixed drinks, etc. Naturally, these did nothing to actually discourage alcohol consumption but cause people to despise their rulers and their petty nonsense.

* CBS radio also wanted a hand in curing the cement of this story. In its top of the hour news last week it said Rolling Stone’s account had irregularities. I suppose we’re to remember its Dan Rather story of W’s sign-up as having what—grammar errors?

MORE COMMENTS:

* So has anyone lost a job let alone gone to jail over this travesty. Sullivan should be history, that she isn’t is further proof that being left not only means you never have to say you’re sorry, it means there are no consequences whatsoever.

* Interesting that the college prez thinks that she can just brazen it out and admit nothing…that way, the whole mess will eventually go away and all that will be left are the “addenda” the fraternities have agreed to. She may be right.
I am not surprised that the NYT has chosen not to explore the story, but I am surprised that the fraternities folded so quickly. They acted as if they were actually guilty of something. An interesting display of the powerlessness of the privileged white male on campus.

* Ann Coulter wrote a column last month in which she described how the left often stages hoaxes, and then demands changes to the system or law to prevent the recurrence of the event which never really happened in the first place. Though this case was not mentioned in her column, it appears now it fits the pattern with these new rules to protect future Jackies from the devious barkeep Haven Monahan.

* “A Man forbids his wife to drink too much because, deep in his secret archives, he has records of the behavior of other women who drank too much, and is eager to safeguard his wife’s self-respect, and his own dignity, against what he knows to be certain invasion. In brief, it is a commonplace of observation, familiar to all males beyond the age of twenty-one, that once a woman is drunk the rest is a mere matter of time and place: the girl is already there.” ― H.L. Mencken, Prejudices

* The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. ― H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women

* I hope Sabrina Rubin will grant me an interview.

I have a story of rape to tell.

2 yrs ago, I used to work as an intern at the NYT. A bunch of editors asked me to stay after hours and when I did, they turned off the lights and raped me for 5 hrs. And then they put me in a bag and took me to the office of CNN and raped me for 5 more hrs with the CNN staff including a tranny with a beer bottle and a lesbian with a strap on.

And then put me in a bag and drove me to Harvard and raped me for 5 hrs more with the staff of Harvard Law school.

I don’t know how I survived but I demand something be done about NYT, CNN, and Harvard.

* Jackie should have said she was Hispanic and that her fake non existent Blond male rapists were immigration restrictionists who are members of The Minute Men Project and that after they raped her they spray painted “STAY OUT OF OUR COUNTRY YOU DIRTY WETBACK” all over her dorm room. She would have gotten even more sympathy from the progressive left wing establishment.

* I just want to point out how insidious the editorial supervision is at the NYT. Look at the headline (typically written by the editor): it’s impossible to distinguish whether the reinstatement went forward BECAUSE OF the members’ innocence, or IN SPITE OF their guilt. The awkwardly-worded lead gives the same ambiguous impression, where “allegations” “unraveled” could easily be taken to mean something like a botched prosecution.

The result is that the naive reader scanning the headlines and lead paragraphs is arguably being misled, and at the least receives nothing in the way of useful information on the real UVA story. No serious editor would tolerate that level of ineptitude in the basic function of journalism. Which validates the comment way above that the NYT is a propaganda outfit. And it’s hardly alone.
