Stacia Friedman emails me:
I am a Philadelphia-based journalist and university journalism instructor who previously lived and worked in the film industry in Los Angeles. I came across one of your blog posts about Hollywood’s “Gay Mafia.” Having worked in the industry, I seriously question not only the focus of your article but the purpose. What is it exactly about gays and Jews that makes you so uncomfortable or that you find “amusing”?
If your goal is to inform and entertain, you’re way off course. All fields of endeavor in which Jews excel in disproportion to their numbers (Medicine, Law, Media, Accounting, Garment Manufacturing, Entertainment Industry) include homosexuals, both male and female. The same can be said for Christians and Muslims in the fields which they dominate. Or haven’t you been to any gay bars in San Francisco lately?
Personally, I find it deeply disturbing that a convert to Judaism, such as yourself, would single out any successful, charitable Jewish professional for cheap yellow journalism of this sort. I will give you the same advice I give to all my students. Write about your personal truth before you go pulling anyone else’s pants down.
