Excessive Focus On Religion Marks Presidential Bids

Every time I read James D. Besser, I want to grind my teeth.

He writes in the Jewish Journal this week:

Should candidates for the White House have to pass a religious test? The Constitution says no, but increasingly American political culture says otherwise.

The excessive focus on religion is already evident in the early days of the 2008 presidential race. That’s bad news for the Jews who, for all the talk of Judeo-Christian values, don’t meet the religious benchmarks of those who have set themselves up as the political judges of a nation they still insist is a Christian one.

Elsewhere in the paper, I find this headline: "Startling surprises in New ’67 War Documentary."

Intrigued, I read Tom Tugend’s story. In the fifth paragraph, he writes: "In fact, there are few startling surprises for anyone who has read any of the numerous post-mortems of the war."

I figured they must’ve fixed this goofed headline online but no. It reads, "History surprises in new ’67 War documentary".
