NYT: ‘Suicide Follows Hurtful Posting On Web’

The NYT says: “Tyler Clementi committed suicide after after Dharun Ravi, center, and Molly Wei, right, allegedly planted a camera in his room and videotaped an intimate encounter.”

I do not blame Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei for Tyler’s death. I blame Tyler for Tyler’s death. If you want to commit suicide because somebody posted something intimate about you online, that’s on you, pal. You’ve got to have enough inner strength to carry on.

Humiliating others is something most of us grow out of. Kids do it all the time. Adults in the second half of life rarely deliberately publicly humiliate others (unless there is something huge at stake such as politics).
